  • yahoo media player not working.

    - by luca590
I have a yahoo media player embedded in my webpage. I am currently using Ruby on Rails to create/edit my web page. When i click the play button next to a track the YMP waits a while and then goes to the next track without playing the first one. I then get a warning on my second (last) track that its file could not be found. Does anyone has a better recommendation for an audio player or a way to fix this one?

  • Message "Sparse file not allowed" after succesfull install without swap-partition

    - by FUZxxl
I've installed Ubuntu without creating a swap partition and with / on a btrfs.# Now I get the message "Sparse file is not allowed" on each boot. This message appears before the splash-screen. Is there a way to kill this warning? # I use some programs that tend to get havoc on memory usage. To prevent them from killing my system, I let the OOM killer do the rest when out of memory rather than making my system unreasonably slow by excessive swapping.

  • How to set MANPATH without overriding defaults?

    - by balki
I have added extra directories to $PATH by exporting PATH=/my/dirs:$PATH But I am not sure if I should do the same to MANPATH. Because default MANPATH is empty yet man command works. I found a command called manpath and its manual says If $MANPATH is set, manpath will simply display its contents and issue a warning.. Does this mean setting MANPATH is not the right way to add directories for man command to search for manual pages?

  • udev complaining about deprecated rules

    - by Kerrek SB
I have Ubuntu 10.10, upgraded several times from older versions over many years, and during startup, I get a long list of warning messages from udevd that certain syntax rules are deprecated. (I don't actually have a copy of the messages, since they don't appear to be logged in the ring buffer or any log files.) Does anyone know how I can summarily prune or upgrade the troublesome rule files to the current format?

  • Web Design Gone Wrong

Web Development can be one of the most difficult tasks to undertake. The varying degrees of involvement with the client can provide either useful or counterproductive elements in the overall product. Unfortunately, the compromises between form, function, and taste can leave a website as functional as someone who refused to obey the warning label and put their hand under the lawn mower.

  • Can't install NetBeans

I had never had problems with netbeans installation, but now I am. I have downloaded JDK and JRE properly as I always do and I have started the installation using the terminal as well. When the screen for JDK directory selection comes, I select the JDK folder that I have downloaded, but for some reason the following warning is shown: "An error occurred while validating the path." Do you know what could be?

  • Should users be deleted after inactivity on a website?

    - by Hovaness Bartamian
When you have a social website or a website where you can register, would you eventually delete them after a certain time (after a year of inactivity) or would you rather keep their account records for ever? I know websites like Facebook have large amount of inactive, duplicated and fake accounts. So I'm wondering if after two years of inactivity it would be alright to send the account a warning email of deletion unless they log in. Just thinking of a clean and efficient database management or any implications this may cause to new potential users.

  • "Untrusted packages could compromise your system's security." appears while trying to install anything

    - by maria
Hi I've freshly installed Ubuntu 10.4 on a new computer. I'm trying to install on it application I need (my old computer is broken and I have to send it to the service). I've managed to install texlive and than I can't install anything else. All software I want to have is what I have succesfuly installed on my old computer (with the same version of Ubuntu), so I don't understand, why terminal says (sorry, the terminal talks half English, half Polish, but I hope it's enough): maria@marysia-ubuntu:~$ sudo aptitude install emacs Czytanie list pakietów... Need to get 23,9MB of archives. After unpacking 73,8MB will be used. Do you want to continue? [Y/n/?] Y WARNING: untrusted versions of the following packages will be installed! Untrusted packages could compromise your system's security. You should only proceed with the installation if you are certain that this is what you want to do. emacs emacs23-bin-common emacsen-common emacs23-common emacs23 Do you want to ignore this warning and proceed anyway? To continue, enter "Yes"; to abort, enter "No" I was trying to install other editors as well, with the same result. As I decided that I might be sure that I know the package I want to install is secure, finaly I've entered "Yes". The installation ended succesfuly, but editor don't understand any .tex file (.tex files are for sure fine): this is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.10 (TeX Live 2009/Debian) restricted \write18 enabled. entering extended mode (./Szarfi.tex ! Undefined control sequence. l.2 \documentclass {book} ? What's more, I've realised that in Synaptic Manager there is no package which would be marked as supported by Canonical... Any tips? Thanks in advance

  • Wubi no longer supports install to fakeraid?

    - by Ryan
About a week ago I used wubi to install ubuntu onto one of my two raid1 devices in windows 7. I tried to do the same this week on the same mobo/drive combo and now I can't get it to install. It gives me first an "invalid prefix" during the install and then says "completing install" followed by a crash into busybox with a warning that the raid can't be mounted because it already was mounted. Has there been a change in wubi or something in the recent past?

  • Installing APC on lighttpd + php 5.2

    - by Patrick
I've found this tutorial to install APC on servers with lighttpd + php 5.2 on Ubuntu 10. However, when I run sudo pecl install apc the package is just downloaded and is not installed. (i.e. I'm not asked the next question" and apc.ini file is not created at all. If I run only pecl install apc I get a warning (no permissions to write some files). (I need instructions for both 9.04 and 10.04) thanks
