• Nagios not accepting regex in command

  I have this command defined: define command{ command_name check_http_sane command_line $USER1$/check_http -H $HOSTNAME$ -r "HTTP/1.1 (200|301|302|303|304|307|401|418|426)" } When I run it manually on command line, it works fine, but nagios (2.6) reports a "pattern not found" error. Do I need to escape something? Edit: As stated below, I solved it by replacing check_http with my own script which works (good enough for our use case, anyway). Script: http://pastebin.com/hNmz6Wa1

• Very Intermittent Orientation on Device & Simulator

  I've noticed that I'm getting very intermittent orientation on my device & the simulator. I have a modal view controller that I present, and that is the only thing in my app which supports rotation. If I launch the app in portrait without moving the device, open the modal VC and then rotate the device, it usually works. However sometimes if I open the app holding the device in landscape, then rotate to portrait, launch the VC and then rotate the device, no rotation occurs. It seems very intermittent. Sometimes if I launch the app in portrait mode and then open the VC and rotate the device, nothing happens, and until I quit and relaunch it no orientation occurs in the app. It's strange because 50% of the time it works! Whenever I launch it through Xcode and set breakpoints in shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation it always works! Anyone ever had this or know what's going on?

• PnP Monitor not detected after reboot

  My second monitor only works when I first disconnect and then reconnect the DVI cable while Windows is running. If I reboot or sleep and wake up, it stays dark. The other Monitor works fine. I have Windows 7 64 Bit with an ATI HD 4770. Any ideas?

  I know there are a number of suites out there that allow Windows machines on a Domain, or in Active Directory to be remotely administrated (windows updates, program installs, maintenance, etc); but does there exist a package that does this for non-AD/Domain setups? The kind of things I'm looking for: manage windows updates, + automatic applying custom package pushing (custom scripts, etc) general maintenance, visibily of health works for 2003/2008/2008R2 works without Active Directory or being part of a Domain (Might be able to manage putting all the machines on a Workgroup, if that helps)

• Cisco IPSec, nat, and port forwarding don't play well together

  I have two Cisco ADSL modems configured conventionally to nat the inside traffic to the ISP. That works. I have two port forwards on one of them for SMTP and IMAP from the outside to the inside this provides external access to the mail server. This works. The modem doing the port forwarding also terminates PPTP VPN traffic. There are two DNS servers one inside the office which resolves mail to the local address, one outside the office which resolves mail for the rest of the world to the external interface. That all works. I recently added an IPSec VPN between the two modems and that works for every thing EXCEPT connections over the IPSec VPN to the mail server on port 25 or 143 from workstations on the remote lan. It would seem that the modem with the port forwards is confusing traffic from the mail server destined for a machine on the other side of the IPSec VPN for traffic that should go back to a port forward connection. PPTP VPN traffic to the mail server is fine. Is this a scenario anybody is familiar with and are there any suggestions on how to work around it? Many thanks Alan But wait there is more..... I bound a secondary ip address to mail server 192.168.1.244, changed the port forwards to use it while leaving all the local and IPSec traffic to use 192.168.1.241 and the problem was solved. • Weird Facebooker Plugin & Pushion Passenger ModRails Production Error

  I have an application (Rails 2.3.5) that I'm deploying to production Linux/Apache server using the latest Phushion Passenger/Apache Module 2.2.11 version. After deploying my original application, it returns a 500 error with no logging to production log. So I created a minimal test rails application, with some active record calls to the database to print out a list of objects to the home controller/my index page. I also cleared out all plugins. That works fine in the production environment. Then I one by one introduced each plugin that I'm using one at a time. Every plugin works fine EXCEPT facebooker. Every time I load the facebooker plugin into my app/vendor/plugins directory (via script git etc) my test application break (500 error - no error logging). Everytime I remove the facebooker plugin my test application works. Has anyone seen this before/ have any solutions? I saw this solution but didn't see it in the facebooker code.

• close fails on database connections (managed connection cleanup fails) in websphere 7 but not in web

  I have a simple method (used in a web application through servlets) that gets a connection from a JNDI name and issues a select statement (get connection, issue select, return result, close the connection etc. in finally). Due to other methods in the application the connection is set as autocommit=false. This method works normally in websphere 6.1 as well as in glassfish and weblogic. However, in websphere 7, it receives cleanup failed error when I close the connection because, it says, the connection is still in a transaction. Because I was not updating anything I did not commit or rollback the connection in this method (which can be wrong). If I add commit before closing the connection, it works. My question is why it works in websphere 6.1 (and other containers) and why not in websphere 7 ? What can be the cause of this difference ?

• jquery noConflict not working in IE8 only

  I have a website using the prootype framework and I am looking to use a jquery plugin. Everything works just not in IE8. It works in ie7 which amazes me. • Interface Builder error: IBXMLDecoder: The value for key is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer

  I'm working with Robert Payne's fork of PSMTabBarControl that works with IB 3.2 (thanks BTW Robert!): http://codaset.com/robertjpayne/psmtabbarcontrol/. The demo application works fine on 64-bit systems, but when I try to open the XIB file in Interface Builder on a 32-bit system I get: IBXMLDecoder: The value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer Building the app as 32 bit works, but then running it gives: PSMTabBarControlDemo[9073:80f] * -[NSKeyedUnarchiver decodeInt32ForKey:]: value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) too large to fit in 32-bit integer Not sure if this is a generic IB issue that can occur when moving between 64 and 32 bit systems, or if this is a more specific issue with this code. Has anyone else run into this?

• Confusion regarding laziness

  I have a function myLength = foldl (\ x _ -> x + 1) 0 which fails with stack overflow with input around 10^6 elements (myLength [1..1000000] fails). I believe that is due to the thunk build up since when I replace foldl with foldl', it works. So far so good. But now I have another function to reverse a list : myReverse = foldl (\ acc x -> x : acc) [] which uses the lazy version foldl (instead of foldl') When I do myLength . myReverse $ [1.1000000]. This time it works fine. I fail to understand why foldl works for the later case and not for former?

• nginx probably deliering wrong filetype for .css file with php tags

  And again - NGINX is giving me many Questions today :) Like always, I already tried around for a while, but cant seem to fix this issue: I just configured NGINX to handle my .css files equal to my .php files (to parse PHP tags inside the CSS file). This works perfectly, and the file is found and delivered. I could debug it with FIrebug, and everything is OK (it displays the contents of the .css inside the opened <link> tag). So, everything working, right? Wrong. It has the CSS, but it does not interpret it! What I mean by this: apparently, the file-type of the CSS (or aplication-type, whatever) is wrong. The Page can access the CSS, but doesnt bother at all to actually use it. What I checked / tried: There are no PHP errors inside of the .css, so that one is out The .css is accessible. • (Ubuntu - Lamp) phpmyadmin install error 404 not found

  Hi, I install apache, mysql, php and then phpmyadmin on ubuntu desktop 10.04 version I test apache: localhost with browser and its works. I test mysql with console and its works. I test phpmyadmin http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ and get error 404 not found I see that solution for that brobem, copy /phpmyadmin/ to /www/, but I dont want to put in /www/ to my websites files (maybe I wrong or miss something-please tell me in this case). How this problem can be solved in the best way? Thanks

• Safari Jquery Dialog and Ckeditor

  Hi I am using a CKEditor in a Jquery Dialog... and in Safari the first time it loads it works but each subsequent time it is blank and no buttons or anything else works in the ckeditor... • Dereferencing pointers without pointing them at a variable

  I'm having trouble understanding how some pointers work. I always thought that when you created a pointer variable (p), you couldn't deference and assign (*p = value) unless you either malloc'd space for it (p = malloc(x)), or set it to the address of another variable (p = &a) However in this code, the first assignment works consistently, while the last one causes a segfault: typedef struct { int value; } test_struct; int main(void) { //This works int* colin; *colin = 5; //This never works test_struct* carter; carter->value = 5; } Why does the first one work when colin isn't pointing at any spare memory? And why does the 2nd never work? I'm writing this in C, but people with C++ knowledge should be able to answer this as well.

• Putting Illustrator CS4 in fullscreen?

  Hi, so I got this drawing tool from my good friend because he got a bigger and better one and I have the Adobe Suite CS4. But, I'm not a good drawer so I am interested in learning and I kind of want to turn Illustrator into a canvas that takes up the whole screen. In addition, I don't want the window to be shown at all. Is there any way to do this? Photoshop or another alternative works also works but I would prefer Illustrator.

• argument order in cygwin gcc 4.3 matters when linking with glib-2.0

  I am trying to compile code that works on os x and linux using cygwin. However, I am finding that the argument order to gcc gives unanticipated results. For example, the following fails: gcc -std=gnu99 `pkg-config --libs glib-2.0 --cflags glib-2.0` nb-learn.c but the following works: gcc -std=gnu99 nb-learn.c `pkg-config --libs glib-2.0 --cflags glib-2.0` Can someone explains how this works? • Hang while starting several daemons [solved]

  I’m running a Debian Squeeze AMD64 server. Target runlevel after boot is runlevel 2, which includes rsyslogd, cron, sshd and some other stuff, but not dovecot, postfix, apache2, etc. The system fails to reach runlevel 2 with several symptoms: The system hangs at trying to start rsyslogd Booting into runlevel 1 works, then login from the console works Starting rsyslogd from runlevel 1 via /etc/init.d/rsyslog hangs Starting runlevel 2 with rsyslogd disabled works But then, logging in via console fails: I get the motd, and then nothing Starting sshd from runlevel 1 succeeds But then, I cannot login via ssh. Sometimes password ssh login gives me the motd and then nothing, sometimes not even this. Trying to offer a public key seems to annoy the sshd enough to not talk to me any further. When rebooting from runlevel 1, the server hangs at trying to stop apache2 (which is not running, so this really should be trivial). Trying to stop apache2 when logged in in runleve 1 does hang as well. And that’s just the stuff which fails all the time. RAM has been tested, dmesg shows no problems. I have no clue. Update: (shortened) output from rsyslogd -c4 -d called in runlevel 1 rsyslogd 4.6.4 startup, compatibility mode 4, module path '' caller requested object 'net', not found (iRet -3003) Requested to load module 'lmnet' loading module '/user/lib/rsyslog/lmnet.so' module of type 2 being loaded conf.c requested ref for 'lmnet', refcount 1 rsylog runtime initialized, version 4.6.4, current users 1 syslogd.c requested ref for 'lmnet', refcount now 2 I can kill rsyslogd with Strg+C, then. /var/log shows none of the configured log files, though. Update2: Thanks to @DerfK I still have no clue, but at least I narrowed down the problem. I’m now testing with /etc/init.d/apache2 stop (without an apache2 running, of course) which hangs as well and looks like an even more obvious failure. After some testing I found out that a file with one single line: /usr/sbin/apache2ctl configtest /dev/null 2&1 hangs, while the same line executed in an interactive shell works. I was not able to further reduce this line while, i. e. every single part, the stream redirections and the commando itself is necessary to reproduce the hang. @DerfK also pointed me to strace which gave a shallow hint about what kind of hang we have here: wait4(-1for the init scripts futex(0xsomepointer, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 2, NULL for rsyslogd / apache2 binaries called by the init scripts The system was installed as a Debian Lenny by my hoster in autumn 2011, I upgraded it to Squeeze immediately and kept it up to date with Squeeze, which then used to be testing. There were no big changes, though. I guess I never tried to reboot the system before. Update3: I found the problem. My /etc/nsswitch.conf specified ldap as hosts lookup backup, which is not available at that time of the boot. Relying on dns solely fixes my boot problems.

  Gedit in linux works like a champ. For me, in two installations Gedit in Windows xp works well except that it will not print properly on HP laser jets or toshibas laser printers. It will make a 90 page project out of two pages of text composed in gedit. It puts one or two confused lines of text at the top of a sheet and then ejects the page. Any suggestions? jac

• Problem deploying GWT project with a servlet that invoke an EJB

  I have a simple GWT project in Eclipse, it has a servlet that calls an EJB and everything works fine when I run it in hosted mode from Eclipse. MyProject +- src +- JRE System Library +- GWT SDK +- Apache Geronimo v2.2 +- myEJB.jar +- openejb.jar -- war -- +- images -- +- myproject -- +- WEB-INF I'm not sure what is the best way to deploy it, but what I did is create a .war file from the "war" folder of the project then deploy it to the server. Communication between client and server works fine but I get an error when I try to do JNDI look up for the EJB within the servlet. The error I get is something like "JNDI error, cannot find FooManagerRemote" Things works fine in hosted mode so I'm pretty sure that I din't deploy it correctly.
