• How to write a tool, inverting colors in Windows?

  I read a topic in this site about it, but decided to post another one as I want to write such a tool, but I don't have much experience in C# & .NET, so it could take me too much time just digging the Net, while someone can just direct me to the right library or classes to be used. So, straight to the point. I want to write a tool that, when activated, inverts absolutely all items on the screen and lets you work that way without torturing your eyes with bright light colors. Does anyone have an idea of the needed .NET libraries or third-party frameworks, to implement this? Any help will be greatly appreciated! P.S. Changing to "High Contrast" theme in Windows is not the solution I seek, so please, don't mention it!

  I am running an ASP.NET 3.5 website on IIS 6 with Server 2003. Whenever I modify any of the ASPX files, any page on the site then takes about 2-3 minutes before it starts to load. Even the smallest modification causes this to happen. Why is this?

  I have a class C in Assembly A like this: internal class C { internal static string About_Name { get { return "text"; } ... } I have about 20 such static properties. Is there a way, in an outside assembly, without using friend assembly attribute (.Net reflection only), get class C so I can invoke any of the static string properties like this: Class C = <some .Net reflection code>; string expected = C.About_Name; If that is not possible, a .Net reflection code to get the string property value directly will suffice, but not ideal. • waitin closes browsers for all projects that are building.

  I'm having an issue running WatiN under CruiseControl.net, where on a .forceclose, watin is closing all open browser instances. I have multiple projects running under cruisecontrol, and its not uncommon for some of those projects to be building and testing at the same time. There has been more than one occasion where watin will close the browser window for a different project, causing it to fail. In my local tests, creating my watin instance under a new process fixes this issue. But running under cruisecontrol, when doing this, I lose my IE object: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Running CC.net as a service CC.Net server is Windows 2003 IE6 Any thoughts?

• Mono on OS X Compatible with MSVC 2010 peers?

  I'm to begin .NET development at work but have the option of using MonoDevelop/Mono on OS X instead of MSVC 2010 on Windows and would prefer it because of my familiarity with OS X. We are likely going to use a number of popular frameworks, such as NHibernate and Castle DI - my question to those of you familiar with .NET development and Mono: will I be at much of a disadvantage? Are there strong incompatibilities or, with some "paper cuts", the two systems are roughly compatible? Again, my colleagues will be using MSVC 2010 and we intend on working on the same codebases together. Thanks for any insight you can give to this .NET newbie. EDIT: I should note I'll primarily be doing development with MVC 2, which I understand does work with Mono, and will have some leeward in choosing frameworks, i.e. I can avoid highly incompatible frameworks.

  When I create new VS2008 asp.net application it builds fine. But when I start debugging I get below error in browser. I've rebuilt the app. The Inherits clause of the markup page matches the class in the code-behind C#. Any clues? Server Error in '/' Application. • Retrieve web user's Identity outside of request scope

  I have an ASP.NET app that logs Audit reports using nHibernate's IPreUpdateListener. In order to set the current user in the Listener events, I was using System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent(). This works fine when debugging on my machine, but when I move it to the staging server, I'm getting the ASP.NET process credentials, not the requesting user. In the ASP.NET page, I can use Request.LogonUserIdentity (which works fine since I'm using integrated authentication), but how do I reference this user directly without having to pass it directly to my event? I don't want to have to pass this info through the pipeline because it really doesn't belong in the intermediate events/calls.

  Hi, I have a function in my .NET application, that needs to do a search of an unknown number of parameters. for example: select * from tbl where x=1 or x=2 or x=3 or x=4 is it possible to do in .NEt and SQL? how do i go about creating dynamic parameters in .NET (I was thinking doing it with a loop) but then how do i declare them in my stored procedure? does sql have arrays? please help. thank you!

• Exists a replacement for the command-line-tool CASPOL.exe?

  When trying to execute a .NET-App, it throws a "PolicyException", because "only one group is allowed". The tool should list existing settings, and allow to delete selected settings. Using caspol to list is not helpful, it is cruel. I've seen there is a simple gui-frontend, which allows to define NEW settings, but it does not allow to list or delete existing settings. Caspol is a nightmare, no wonder anyone uses it by choice. With .NET 1.1 Microsoft delivered a configuration-utility, but for .NET 2.0 i've found nothing.

• How to determine the date that Office 2003 was installed

  Is there any guaranteed way of determining the date that Office 2003 (and .Net Framework v2.0) were installed on a client computer? I am trying to nail down a problem which I think is due to the order that the .Net Framework and Office 2003 were installed in, so I need a way I can get a client to have a look at their machine (preferably the file system) and let me know. It may require admin privileges (or Registry etc) which wouldn't be a problem but not the preferred solution. It appears that the folders under Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11 have a number with the same date which at first sight appear to be an installation date / time. Likewise in Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727 there are two with the same date, but this seems less certain. I could use WMI with a winmgmts:object and SELECT * FROM Win32_Product, but was wondering if there was a 'telephone' way to do it!

There a a lot of urls already indexed by google and links set in web-catalogs that looks like this www.mypage.com/directory1/page.aspx Now I changed this that the url looks like this: www.mypage.com/page.aspx I want the urls with the directory in the path to redirect to the urls without the directory, so that the links that are set and indexed can stay as they are. How can I achieve this with IIS 6.

  Say you have an ASP.NET MVC project and are using a service layer, such as in this contact manager tutorial on the asp.net site: http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/iteration-4-make-the-application-loosely-coupled-cs If you have viewmodels for your views, is the service layer the appropriate place to provide each viewmodel? For instance, in the service layer code sample there is a method public IEnumerable<Contact> ListContacts() { return _repository.ListContacts(); } If instead you wanted a IEnumerable, should it go in the service layer, or is there somewhere else that is the "correct" place? Perhaps more appropriately, if you have a separate viewmodel for each view associated with ContactController, should ContactManagerService have a separate method to return each viewmodel? If the service layer is not the proper place, where should viewmodel objects be initialized for use by the controller?

  After about a year doing Asp.net web forms, I stepped out (for the most part) from the .net world. I'm now working on a webapp that uses a lot of client side scripting and uses WebAPI for data access. I have a HTML section that allows note taking. I would like to make this HTML section into a template that I can reuse elsewhere on the site (e.g., insert this piece of HTML code into another web page). I'm a bit befuddled on how to go about this. Think of my problem as trying to create a "user control" in asp.net web forms ... only that I am not using web forms. Just good old fashioned HTML, CSS, Javascript, jquery, and knockout. Conceptually, I'd think that others have been in the same spot as myself. Can anyone elaborate a solution or at least provide some pointers? Thanks !

• Can I load a 32 bit DLL into a 64 bit process on Windows?

  I recently upgraded a c# windows service to run as a 64 bit .net process. Normally, this would be trivial, but the system makes use of a 32-bit DLL written in C++. It is not an option to convert this DLL to 64 bit, so I wrapped the DLL in a separate 32 bit .net process and exposed a .net interface via remoting. This is quite a reliable solution, but I would prefer to run the system as a single process. Is there any way I can load my 32 bit DLL into a 64 bit process and access it directly (perhaps through some sort of thunking layer)?

• Why must user be logged in for impersonation to work?

  My Windows Server 2008 server hosts an ASP.net application that uses impersonation. The application works as long as the user being impersonated remains logged on to the server. However, when the user logs off, clients can no longer view the web pages. They get a cryptic error instead. How can I configure the server to work without the impersonated user remaining logged on?   I have a commerce application, asp.net mvc. I want it to be extensible in the sense others can create other payment providers, as long as they adhere to the interfaces. /blah.core /blah.web /blah.Authorize.net (Implementation of a payment provider using interfaces Ipaymentconfig and paymentdata class) Now the problem is this: /blah.core - PaymentData /blah.core.interfaces - IPaymentConfig where Payment Data looks like: using blah.core; public class PaymentData { public Order Order {get;set;} } IPayment data contains classes from blah.core like the Order class. Now I want to use the actual Authorize.net implementation, so when I tried to reference it in the blah.core project I got a circular dependency error. How could I solve this problem? Many have said to break out the interfaces into their own project, but the problem is PaymentData references entities that are found in blah.core also, so there doesn't seem to be a way around this (in my head anyhow). How can I redesign this?
