• C# Possible to partial class "program" class for a console application?

  I was wondering if its possible to change the default "program" class that gets created for any console application to a partial class. I want to do this because I want better organisation rather than have all methods in 1 file categorized by region. It would make more sense for me to have certain method categories sitting in separate files. My understanding of a partial class is that it is a class definition in multiple files that during a compile merges the class files into 1 class unit. I could be wrong, or there could be a better way for me to achieve better organisational structure. Any suggestions would help, and thanks

  Is there a good guide or tutorial for people who need to programmatically interact with dynamic websites? There's been a rash of Perl questions about that lately, and I haven't found a good resource to point people toward. I'm asking not because I need one but because I don't want to waste my time writing it if it already exists. Although I'm most interested in Perl, the extra tools and techniques are mostly the same. Typically, I see see these problems in people's questions: Handling, setting, and saving cookies Finding and interacting with forms Handling JavaScript inside your user-agent especially things like onLoad, onSumbit, and Ajax Using HTTP sniffer tools Using Web developer plugins in interactive browsers Interacting with DOM, screen scraping, etc. If there's no good tutorial, I'll add it to my list of things to do (unless someone else wants to do it :). Along the way, if you don't have a suggestion for an existing tutorial, please suggest the things that you think should be in a new one, including links, your favorite tools, and your own user-agent development experiences. I don't care about the particular language you use.

  I'm graduating with a Computer Science degree but I see websites like Stackoverflow and search engines like Google and don't know where I'd even begin to write something like that. During one summer I worked as a iPhone developer, but I felt like I was mostly gluing together libraries that other people had written with little understanding of what's happening underneath the hood. I'm trying to improve my knowledge by studying algorithms, but it is a long and painful process. I find algorithms difficult and at the rate I am working through my book it will a decade will have passed before I will finish. Given my current situation, I've spent a month looking for work but my skills (C, Python, Objective-C) are not so desirable in the local market, where C#, Java, and web development are much higher in demand. My GPA is ok (3.0) but it's not high enough to apply to the large companies or return for graduate studies and I don't have a good network of friends. Basically I'm graduating with a Computer Science degree but I don't feel like I know how to program. I thought that joining a company and programming full-time would give me a chance to develop my skills and learn from those more experienced than myself, but I'm struggling to find work and am starting to get really frustrated. I am going to cast my net wider and look beyond the city I've grown up in, but what have other people in similar situation tried to do?

• Parallel port blocking

  I have a legacy Java program which handles a special card printer by sending binary data to the LPT1 port (no printer driver is involved, the Java program creates the binary stream). The program was working correctly with the client's old computer. The Java program sent all the bytes to the printer and after sending the last byte the program was not blocked. It took an other minute to finish the card printing, but the user was able to continue the work with the program. After changing the client's computer (but not the printer, or the Java program), the program does not finish the task till the card is ready, it is blocked until the last second. It seems to me that LPT1 has a different behavior now than was before. Is it possible to change this in Windows? I've checked BIOS for parallel port settings: The parallel port is set to EPP+ECP (but also tried the other two options: Bidirectional, Output only). Maybe some kind of parallel port buffer is too small? How can I increase it?

I am concerned about people who doesnt want my email clicking "report as junk"-button in hotmail, and understand that JMRP send me a message each times somebody clicks the button on one of my emails.   While researching ways to prevent CryptoLocker, I saw a forum post that advised using Group Policy Objects (GPO) and/or antivirus software to block run access in the following locations: %appdata% %localappdata% %temp% %UserProfile% Compressed archives Obviously, anything written in a forum should be taken with caution. I do see advantages to do doing this, though, primarily because malware likes to execute out of these locations. Of course, this could impact legitimate programs as well. What are the drawbacks to blocking run access to these locations? What are the advantages?

• Program shortcuts disappearing in Windows Mobile 2003, any way to get them back?

  I have a WM2003 device with some programs installed on it and a full backup created and saved to a SD card. If the device runs out of charge for some time (or the battery removed) everything is reseted back to defaults, so the custom programs and configs are gone. When this happens I used to restore the full backup to put everything back to normal again. But I've recently installed TomTom Navigator 7 and for some reason, its shortcut in the "Programs" section is not saved when creating a full backup (with the eBackup app provided) and the installation doesn't create a shortcut in the main screen (as version 6 used to do). Is there any way to make this shortcut persistent? Is there any way to create custom shortcuts in the programs section or in the main screen (preferably)?   I'm having a strange new issue with PostgreSQL. After the last two reboots it hasn't started properly, and that was the error in the log (it occurs early enough in the startup process to not say anything in Postgres' own logs.) • Linux program to convert audio file of fax transmission to image?

  I have a number of uncompressed audio files recorded off of an analog (POTS) telephone line of fax transmissions. Is there a Linux utility or library I could use to convert these files into images of the fax they contain? I'm not looking to send/receive a fax via a modem, but just to "replay" the communications tones and parse out the fax message.I'm guessing this may not be possible due to duplex issues and not knowing which end of the conversation is sending what,but thought I'd ask to see if anyone knew of something.

• database on SSD: data only or the DBM program too?

  I plan on moving the data I use for statistical analysis (100-ish Gb) onto an SSD. The data is either sqlite single-file db's, or postgresql-managed data. The SSD is 240 Gb, 550 MB/s read and 520 MB/s write. Should I reserve that space for the data only, or would it be a good idea to install the operating system (Mac OS X) and the application directory (Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office and the like) on the SSD too? And would it make a substantial speed difference whether I also install the postgresql binaries on the SSD? I have plenty of other space (another 300Gb hard-drive, and a 1Tb one). Don't know the features of the non-SSD drives, though they're our standard equipment on all Macs, and they're definitely OK. Thanks.

• Is there a media/music player program that has a "biased" shuffle?

  I know in iTunes and a few other apps you can get playlists for just "highly rated" songs, but that's not quite what I want. I want to hear the lower-rated stuff, too. If I didn't like the song at some level it wouldn't be in my library in the first place, and so even a one-star song is worth the occasional listen. However, I do want to hear five-star songs a lot more often than one-star songs, even though I think I have a lot more one-star songs in my music library. So does anyone know of media player software of plugin (preferrable free) that has a shuffle mode that is biased towards songs that are rated higher, without completely excluding those that are rated lower? Right now I prefer windows media player, so a plugin for that would be ideal, but I'm not married to media player, either. Any music software that will do this would be worth some attention.

  I need to configure sendmail so that mail delivered for wildcard addresses is accepted for delivery and then delivered to a user, alias, or directly to a script. I can rewrite the envelope/headers any number of ways, but I don't know how to accept the wildcard address when it's provided in RCPT TO: Everything I've tried so far winds up with a 550 user unknown error. So here's a specific example: I want to be able to handle any address that consists of a series of digits followed by a dot followed by a word, then pipe that to a script. If the headers get rewritten, that's OK, but I need the envelope to contain the actual Delivered-To address. Here's the sort of SMTP session I need: 220 blah.foo.com ESMTP server ready; Thu, 22 Apr 2010 20:41:08 -0700 (PDT) HELO blort.foo.com 250 blah.foo.com Hello blort.foo.com [10.1.2.3], pleased to meet you MAIL FROM: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.0 <[email protected]>...
