• Replacing IFrame with div

  I have a IFrame where I load in a custom search, and display the results within the iframe. The search results I obtain by calling an external url, that returns a value. I need to implement the same thing for a mobi site that works on mobile devices, and thus I need to replace the IFrame with something else. Will this be possible using a div tag, since most mobile devices do not support frames. And no javascript may be used. Any advice will be appreciated.

• How to "defragment" MongoDB index effectively in production?

  I've been looking at MongoDB. Feels good. I added some indexes to a collection, uploaded a bunch of data, then removed all the data, and I noticed the indexes did not change size, similar to the behavior reported here. If I call db.repairDatabase() the indexes are then squashed to near-zero. Similarly if I don't remove all the data, but call repairDatabase(), the indexes are squashed somewhat (perhaps because unused extends are truncated?). I am getting index size from "totalIndexSize" of db.collection.stats(). However, that takes a long time (I've read it could be hours on a large database). It's unclear to me how available the database is for reads or writes while it is running. I am guessing not so available. Since I want to run as few instances of mongod as possible, I want to understand more about how indexes are managed after deletes. Can anyone point me to anything or give any advice?

• Pushing a variable onto a vector, value at that point in vector changes when the variable does.

  I have a programming problem =) std::vector<char*> Names; if(MyPacket.ID == 3) {Names.push_back(MyPacket.Buffer);} I push the recieved buffer onto a vector like so, but when the buffer changes so does the value of the variable at that point in the vector. So say I sent and pushed a buffer containing 'Simon' onto the vector that would be fine so at point [0] on the vector would be the word Simon. but then when I recieve a new buffer it overwrites position [0] even though the packets ID is different, a breakpoint within the if statement is not reached with this new buffer. I really hope i'm explaining this well enough, I tried asking a friends advice and he pointed me towards this site. Any help appreciated David Andrews

• Deallocating NSMutableArray of custom objects

  I need help with deallocation of my NSMutableArray of custom objects. I need to retain the array and so I have added a property in .h and I release it in dealloc in .m file. When I add objects to the array, I do the following: myarray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [myarray addObject:[[mycustomObject alloc]initWithObject:obj1]]; [myarray addObject:[[mycustomObject alloc]initWithObject:obj2]]; Now, I don't know how to release mycustomobject. If I do the following: [myarray addObject:[[[mycustomObject alloc]initWithObject:obj1] autorelease]; I run in to problems when I access the array later. Please advice.

• Why does the release build of my iPhone app crash on the device on the first run after installation?

  I have an iPhone app that's been in development for about 2 weeks. We recently tried the "release" version of the build on a device, and to our great unhappiness, it crashes in one of the views with an "EXC_BAD_ACCESS". This crash only occurs on devices, and only in the "release" build. Not only that, but it only happens the first time the app is launched! It is also 100% reproducible. We have removed the small block of code that deals with data persistence, and have tried re-openning Xcode, cleaning the project, deleting and reinstalling the app, etc., as some other questions suggest. Do you have any advice for a) what might be causing this problem, and b) how to go about debugging if it only happens in "release"? Thanks

• Git remove directory

  I've got a repository on GitHub (http://github.com/hrickards/PHP-Crypto) for a little project me and a couple of others are working on. My development environment is Aptana Studio, and I use the EGit plugin as Aptana is basically Eclipse underneath. Today the designer sent the HTML and CSS for the website with the images in a folder named img. Previously the images were in a folder called images. Thinking nothing of it and being too lazy to update the CSS and HTML, I simply kept the images in the img directory and commited to Git. However, the GitHub web interface shows both the img and images directories, with the images directory being empty. I've tried deleting the images directory with git rm -r images and git rm images, and even mkdir images; git add images; git rm -r images but whatever I try I get the same result: fatal: pathspec 'images' did not match any files. Has anyone got any advice on how to remove images, or am I misunderstanding Git or something?

  Hello, I'm using ADO.NET entity framework, and am using an AdventureWorks database attached to my local database server. For unit testing, what approaches have people taken to work with a database? Obviously, the database has to be in a pre-defined state of change so that the tests can have some isolation from each other... so I need to be able to run through the inserts and updates, then rollback either between tests or after the batch of tests are done. • Best method to compress JSON string in term of performance and compress radio

  For a JSON string, contains all kinds of settings, numbers, string etc. Total JSON string fairly fall into 10k~50K range. I want to compress it before save to database. So I wonder which compress method should I choose, I am using c# 4, I know I can choose gzip and deflate but the compression radio is not good (although speed is good). More specific, compress can be a little slow (since only once) but should be small. Decompress should be lighting fast since decompress happens lots. Please give some advice.

  Hello, I seem to be having some problems creating a jquery plugin. I am testing a simple plugin in firebug console and the function is not being defined as I would expect. Here is the code pattern I am using jQuery.fn.test = function () {console.log("runs")} I am trying to call the function with this call which is not working. $.test() But this call does $.fn.test() I don't think this is how it is supposed to work so I think I am doing something wrong, although all the documentation seems to agree that I should be correct.   Can anyone provide me with advice, opinions, or experience with using an agile methodology to delivery an enterprise-scale Web Content Management system (e.g., Interwoven TeamSite, Tridion)? My current opinion is that to implement a CM system there is a certain--relatively high--amount of upfront work that needs to happen to make sure the system is going to be scalable and efficient for future projects for the multi-year lifespan an WCM is expected to have. I am able to create 2 template from the webcam capture, but I am unable to perform template matching for both. The program can run only with either template matching, but not both. My program sequence is: Capture from webcam get template 1 get template 2 perform template 1 matching with webcam capture then perform template 2 matching with webcam capture if fail, stop. Can any expert advice me on this?

  Hello, If there an easy way to get a completed SQL statement back after parameter substitution? I.e., I want to keep a logfile of all the SQL this program runs. Or if I want to do this, will I just want to get rid of Parameters, and do the whole query the old school way, in one big string?   Having a hard time fixing this or finding any good hints about it. I'm trying to loop over one file, modify each line slightly, and then loop over a different file. Yes, I am sure the if has true cases. :-) "seqres.txt" has lines with an ID number in a certain format, each followed by a line with data. The "ids.txt" has lines with the ID numbers of interest in a different format. I want each line of data with an interesting ID number in its own file.   I have see a lot of competing theories about hierarchical queries in fluent-nHibernate or even basic nHibernate and how they're a difficult beast. Does anyone have any knowledge of good resources on the subject. I find myself needing to do queries similar to: (using a file system analog) select folderObjects from folders where folder.Permissions includes :myPermissionLevel or [any of my ancestors] includes :myPermissionLevel This is a one to many tree, no node has multiple parents. I'm not sure how to describe this in nHibernate specific terms or, even sql-terms. I've seen the phrase "nested sets" mentioned, is this applicable? I'm not sure. Can anyone offer any advice on approaches to writing this sort of nHibernate query?

  I'm developing a web user interface to enter some information that is not very complex but needs to be loaded in real time. I think that the application could make use of speech recognition to facilitate the task. Te core of the interface is being built with Javascript and jQuery, but can easily include a flash or silverlight component. I believe that´s probably the way to go... I don't need to recognize everything that the user says, but only a few prerecorded commands. Also, I don't want the user to click on a button to specify the begining and the end of the spoken command. It should be detected live. Is there anything that does this? I would be grateful if anyone tells me about a complete solution, free or commercial, as well as any advice on capturing a sound stream from the mic and process it with flash or sliverlight.   We will be deploying a production application to Amazon EC2 very shortly. Initially, we'll just be using a "small" instance, but have plans to scale up not long afterwards. My question is, has any investigation been done on JVM tuning for the EC2 environment? Are there any specific changes that we should make to our JVM parameters to compensate for quirks/characteristics of Amazon EC2? Or, do the normal tuning methodologies apply here as they would in a physical environment? Our application will be deployed on Tomcat 6.x. It is built using JBoss Seam 2.2.x, and uses PostgreSQL 8.x as the backend database. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated!

• Python/Tkinter Audio Player

  Hey everyone reading this, I've recently got into doing GUI development with Python. Tkinter seems like the easiest and most logical choice starting out. I did a little with wxPython but it was more sophisticated than what I needed. Anyway, I'm developing a media player. Right now it's a simple window with a button to load .wav files. The problem is I would like to implement a pause button now. But, when playing a audio file the GUI isn't accessible again (no buttons can be pushed) till the file is done playing. How can I make the GUI dynamic while an audio file is playing? I was thinking this maybe be because I'm using PyAudio, and their implementation doesn't allow this. Anyway, thanks for any advice before hand.
