• Restart mysql keeping the data

  I'm quite new using mysql, so let me know if I'm missing something. I took some holidays, and when I got back to work and I tried to log in phpmyadmin I got a ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2). I never had this problem, so I was browsing to look for a solution. I tried some things, and I'm afraid I touched too much. I couldn't solve the problem, and the I realized that I had some actualizations to be done, and I thought that they may be helpful for mysql. Then I also realized that when I was doing this actualizations first day, they stopped because I had a lack of space, so I restarted then. Then,when the system was configuring mysql, it didn't advance. I waited for a long time and then I just stopped it and restarted the computer. After it, I just tried to uninstall mysql with sudo apt-get remove mysql-server-5.1, and install it again, but it didn't work. Now I have 2 questions: What do you think it is happening? Should I remove mysql completely? What should I do? I'm afraid of losing my databases, is there anyway to recover the data? • Cloning Win 7 installation from MBR to GPR drive and make it bootable

  I've seen threads on similar topics - such as this one - but the answers never seem to solve how to make it bootable. I have Win 7 64-bit on a PC installed on a 2tb MBR volume. The motherboard is UEFI compatible. I just installed a secondary internal 3TB drive which will be partitioned as GPT. Is there a relatively easy way to clone my installation over to the new drive and have that drive be bootable? I have used EaseUS Partition Master to clone the C volume to the D volume, but that would not boot and I assume the issue is that one is MBR and one is GPT. Is there a process to do this?

• Hanging page loads every n loads

  Hi Guys I recently moved my site to a new server (Apache 2, PHP5, MySQL5). The site is an Invision based forum. Every few posts / topics it just hangs. The data has been written because if you stop and reload, the post / thread is there. I thought it was a write issue initially, but nope. So, the data is written but the page load never completes. It doesn't leave the page where the data has been input. Whats the best way to trouble shoot this issue? The only thing I have done recently is reduce my MySQL timeouts, but I can't see that being an issue as the values are still big enough and there are no mentions of timeouts in the MySQL log. (For the record there is nothing in PHP's error log either) Thanks in advance!

• Eclipse And Linux: Keyboard unusable after gnome-screen-saver

  Hi, I know this is not programming related. But I can't find any topics on Google or UbuntuForums. So the problem is: When gnome-screensaver starts on the moment Eclipse has the focus and I wake up again my laptop, Eclipse doesn't listen to keyboard-events. To solve this I have to change the focus to another program and then back to Eclipse. Than it works again. This isn't a real problem, but it would be nice if someone can solve it. Thanks

  I am looking at Outlook for Mac (in Office 2011). I wanted to find out what versions of Exchange are supported, as well as whether MAPI is supported. I googled and also searched the Microsoft site. I also checked in wikipedia, but it was probably too soon. I found announcement about Outlook for Mac I found the system requirements on the official site, but they don't say anything on these topics. I saw some forum traffic saying: MAPI is not supported, but there was no attribution, so I won't bother to quote it. Can anyone point me to some official documents that address these concerns?

• Linux not picking up new partition correctly on emc pseudo device

  Hi We have a database server running oracle rac. We were recently running out of space on the main LUN that it is attached to. I created a new 100GB LUN and concatenated this onto the existing LUN creating a new MetaLUN. After some messing I managed to get linux to recognise the new space. I then created a new partition in on the pseudo device, to use the new space. Previously when I have done this on other system the next step is to create an ASM disk on the new partition and add this disk to the oracle disk group. This however fails. I am aware of various issues with ASM and powerpath, but I don't think this is the issue here. As on while investigating the issue I discovered that one of the underlying logical device is not reflecting the size change.   Is it really possible to invoke a context menu using a keyboard shortcut instead of clicking the right/alt mouse button in OS X? In particular, I would like a menu-key-like feature in OS X. • Using pg_connect() with wamp server and postgresql

  Help! I am trying to connect to a Postgres database and can't get the server to connect. When I execute this php script: $conn = pg_connect("dbname=wikimap user=postgres password=postgis host=localhost port=54321"; if (!$conn) { echo "Not connected : " . pg_error(); exit; } I get this error: <b>Fatal error</b>: Call to undefined function pg_connect() in <b>C:\wamp\www\wikimap\php\pgis.php</b> on line <b>33</b><br /> I have made sure the php_pgsql and php_pdo_pgsql extensions are enabled in the wamp menu and php.ini, and I've read through other topics in this forum and others about connecting wamp to postgres, messing with the httpd.config file and php.ini file and copying libpq.dll between bins, all to no avail. I've been working on this for hours and can't figure out how to get pg_connect to work. Any ideas???

  I'm trying to install Umbraco CMS on Windows 7 64-bit and I get the following exception: [HttpException (0x80004005): Could not load file or assembly 'ImageManipulation, Version=1.0.2105.41209, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant minimum permission required. The application pool's trust mode is set to 'Full', all the user permissions are just as on other sites hosted on the same machine. I went through all relevant topics on Umbraco's forum, but all advices are about the trust level. How do I fix this?

  I am trying to get Oracle Java 7 update 3 working correctly on Debian 6. I have downloaded and set up the files in /usr/java/jre1.7.0_03. I have also set the following two lines at the end of /etc/bash.bashrc: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jre1.7.0_03 export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin Logging in as other users and root is fine, Java can be found: chris@mc:~$ java -version java version "1.7.0_03" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_03-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.1-b02, mixed mode) However there are two cases where Java cannot be found as detailed below. Note that both of these worked fine when I have previously installed OpenJDK Java 6 via aptitude, but I need Oracle Java 7 for various reasons. Most importantly, I cannot run commands as another user via su, despite the PATH showing that Java should be present. The user was created with adduser chris root@mc:~# su chris -c "echo $PATH" /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/java/jre1.7.0_03/bin:/bin root@mc:~# su chris -c "java -version" bash: java: command not found root@mc:~# su chris -c "/usr/java/jre1.7.0_03/bin/java -version" java version "1.7.0_03" ... How can it be in the PATH but not be found? Update 05/04/2012: explained by Daniel, to do with it being a non-interactive shell so files such as /etc/profile and /etc/bash.bashrc are not executed. Doing a full swap to that user and running Java works: root@mc:~# su chris chris@mc:/root$ java -version java version "1.7.0_03" ... I run a script on start up which exhibits similar but slightly different problems. The script is located in /etc/init.d/start-mystuff.sh and calls a jar: #!/bin/bash # /etc/init.d/start-mystuff.sh java -jar /opt/Mars.jar I can confirm that the script runs on start up and the exit code is 127, which indicates command not found. Inserting a line to print/save the PATH shows that it is: /sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin This second problem isn't as important because I can just point directly to the Java executable in the script, but I am still curious! I have tried setting the full PATH and JAVA_HOME explicitly in /etc/environment which didn't help. I have also tried setting them in /etc/profile which doesn't seem to help either. I have tried logging in and out again after setting PATH in the various locations (duh!). Anyway, long post for what will probably have a simple one line solution :( Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, I have spent far too long trying to fix it by myself. Motivation The first problem may seem obscure but in my system I have users that are not allowed SSH access yet I still want to run processes as them. I have a ton of scripts operating in this way and don't want to have to change them all.

NO cdrom (I dont know how to mount it the iso file is on USB device), I transferd the ISO and unzip the ISO in a directory I run: "pkgadd -d /export/michel/SOLARIS_10/PRODUCT SUNi1cs" == process datastream failed ... errno=2. I've check the web without success, many answers but none that fit my prob. Thank you

• Win 7 time service error

  I see a warning in my Win7 Events Log: The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The message suggests that I run: w32tm /resync When I try to run that command, I get an error: The following error occurred: The specified module could not be found. <0x8007007E I can run w32tm with no arguments and get the expected list of w32tm commands, so the program is accessable and runs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Ubuntu 9.10: how do I troubleshoot a startup script that doesn't appear to run?

  I've created a bash script 'foo'. I've made that script executable with chmod+x and added it the the start-up by running sudo update-rc.d foo defaults 80 Despite that, it doesn't appear to be working at startup. Is there a way to have my script echo messages to a log? Or is there some log that would record events/errors for this? atm, I feel like I'm flying blind and don't really know how to troubleshoot this.
