• Converting a date string which is before 1970 into a timestamp in MySQL.

  Not a very good title, so my apologies. For some reason, (i wasn't the person who did it, i digress) we have a table structure where the field type for a date is varchar. (odd). We have some dates, such as: 1932-04-01 00:00:00 and 1929-07-04 00:00:00 I need to do a query which will convert these date strings into a unix time stamp, however, in my sql if you convert a date which is before 1970 it will return 0. Any ideas? Thanks so much! EDIT: Wrong date format. ooops.

  This is a minimal code. I have the string Str which is used by various methods.   Hi All, I am making a small form for a php app and had a question regarding javascript validation. What is the best event to run the javascript validation on the input value? Is it the "focusout" event? I used "focusout" to originally but it creates problems when the user hits enter while they are still focused on any particular field in the form. Should I run the js validation when the user clicks submit? Just looking for some advice. Thanks! Chuck

  What would be the most concise/readable way in a velocity template to join multiple fields with a separator while leaving out empty or null Strings without adding excess separators? As an example we have a tooltip or appointments that goes like: Appointment ($number) [with $employee] [-] [$remarks] [-] [$roomToVisit] Where I used brackets to indicate optional data. When filled in it would normally show as Appointment (3) with John - ballroom - serve Java coffee When $remarks is empty but $roomToVisit is not, this becomes: Appointment (3) with John - ballroom When $remarks is "serve Java coffee" but $roomToVisit is empty we get: Appointment (3) with John - serve Java coffee When both are empty: Appointment (3) with John Bonus: also make the field prefix optional. When only $employee is empty we should get: Appointment (2) serve Java coffee - ballroom Ideally I would like the velocity template to look very similar to the first code box. If this is not possible, how would you achieve this with a minimum of distracting code tags? • Is it okay if my ViewModel 'creates' bindable user controls for my View?

  I have an entry-point View with a tab control. Each tab is going to have a user control embedded within it. Each embedded view inherits from the same base class and will need to be updated as a key field on the entry-point view is updated. I'm thinking the easiest way to design this page is to have the entry-point ViewModel create and expose a collection of the tabbed views so the entry-point View can just bind to the user control elements using a DataTemplate on the tab control. Is it okay for a ViewModel to instantiate and provide UI elements for its View?

• Changing stylesheet href with jQuery doesn't quite work

  I'm creating a web app that user will be accessing in the field, so they'd like to be able to manually toggle the styles from light to dark depending on the ambient lighting. I'm using jQuery. I added an id attribute to my stylesheet, then created a button using the toggle() event, in which I change the href attribute to the CSS file I want. The CSS file has several @import directives as I split the styles into several files for maintainability. My problem is only the main CSS file is being applied. I tried using the absolute path in the @import directives, but no luck. Is there a fix here I'm missing, or do I have to inlcude everything in a single CSS file? Edit: Apprently this is only a problem in IE8, works fine in Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately, my client wants only IE8. Looks like this is a duplicate of this question.

• Database design: How should I add an information which can apply to several tables

  I am constructing a database System using Mysql, this will be an application of about 20 tables. The system contains information on farmers, we work with organic certification and need to record a lot of info for that. In my system, there are related parent-child tables for farmers, producing years and fields/areas - it's a simple representation of the real world in which farmers farm crops on their fields. I now need to add several status flags for each one of these levels: a farmer can be certified, or his field can be, or the specific year can be; each of these flags has several states and can occur a number of times. The obvious solution to this would be to add a child table to every one of these tables, and define the states there. What I wonder if there is an easier way to do this to avoid getting to many tables? Where/how would be best practise to keep that data?

  In propel there is this doUpdate function, that will return the numbers of affected rows by this query. The question is, if there is no need to update the row ( because the set value is already the same as the field value), will those rows counted as the affected row? Take for example, I have the following table: ID | Name | Books 1 | S1oon | Me 2 | S1oon | Me Let's assume that I write a ORM function of the equivalent of the following query: update `new table` set Books='Me' where Name='S1oon'; What will the doUpdate result return? Will it return 0 ( because all the Books column are already Me, hence there is no need to update), or will it be 2 ( because there are 2 rows that fulfill the where condition) ?

• Cron expressions: leading zeros ok?

  A quartz-scheduled process did not kick off last evening. The only thing that looks like it MIGHT be off is that, in one entry: 0 00 23 13,15 APR ? The "minutes" field is specified as a 2-digit 00 rather than a single-digit 0. I can't find any definitive cron documentation saying whether or not this would cause a problem. I can't test it again until the off-hours. Anyone know for sure if this could be a problem? if so, it's rather a silly one.

• Show file extensions in document libraries in Sharepoint 2010

  I've got a Sharepoint site collection with several sub sites each having their own document library. Now I want to add the file extensions to the document names in all those libraries. How should I do this? I've seen tips telling you to modify the onet.xml-file, but they never look like mine do, and furthermore I don't know for sure what happens to that onet.xml-file - does it change the existing libraries? Other tips tell me to use Sharepoint designer, that would mean I'll have to do it for every view in every library, wouldn't it? So I'd prefer doing it from code, where I feel more comfortable and where I can automate the process. So, all I want is to replace the "Name (linked to document with edit menu)" with the "Name (for use in forms)" but still keep the link and the edit menu. I've found I need to use the FileLeafRef-field, but I don't know how! Thankful for any new clues, Sebastian

I essentially want to order a query by a postgres function ('idx', taken from the above stackoverflow work) I've gone through trying to use model.objects.extra(order_by ) or simply order_by but I believe both of these need the order_by parameter to be an attribute or a field known to Django. I'm trying to think how to solve this without having to revert to using an entirely raw SQL query through a model manager.

  Howdy, So I've got a simple table with an ID field that's incrementally generated on INSERT. I've set the mapping up in NHibernate to reflect this: <id name="ID"> <generator class="identity" /> </id> And it all works fine. Trouble is, I need to get the generated ID after I've saved a new model to use elsewhere: var model = new MyModel(); session.SaveOrUpdate(model); But at this stage model.ID == null, not the ID.   I have a situation similar to the following question: Insert Data Into SQL Table Where my scenario differs is that I have a non-auto-incrementing primary key field that can have a range between 1000 and 1999. We only have about a hundred values in it thus far, but the maximum value has already been taken (1999), and there are gaps in the numbering sequence. Thus, I need to find a value that is between 1000-1999 and not taken. For instance, if my current values are, for example, 1000, 1001, 1003, and 1999, I would want the query to return 1002.

For a given record the value is '2010-04-01 17:19:23.62 -05:00' In C# I create a DataTable and fill it with the results of "SELECT RecDate FROM MyTable". I need to get the milliseconds, but if I do the following the milliseconds are always 0: DateTimeOffset dto = DateTimeOffset.Parse(dt.Rows[0][0].ToString()); What is the proper way to get the value in the RecDate column into the dto variable? • MVC Custom Model Binder Binding Multiple Values

  Hello everyone, I have a scenario in which I have multiple sources to bind to my model. For one, I have a view tied to a strongly-typed model, but this scenario also entails posting data to this view from a 3rd party site. Essentially, what I believe I am after in the custom model binding is to investigate the form values in the Request object within HTTPContext to see if I have a field such as "postedFirstName". If so, I want to bind that value instead of the textbox "FirstName" in my view. I've done a good bit of searching but have not find anything that exactly addresses such a scenario. • What is the best way to reject messages with the same body in AMQ queue?

  I have a single AMQ queue that receives simple messages with string body. Consider I'm sending CLSIDs as message bodies. CLSIDs could be not unique, but I'd like to reject all messages with not unique bodies and keep only single instance of such messages in the queue. Is there any simple way to do it? Currently I'm using a workaround. Messages from the queue are consumed by some processor that tries to insert bodies into a simple DB table with UNIQUE constraint applied to message_body field. If processor inserts the messages succesfuly - it's assigned to exchange.out.body and sent to other queue. If ConstraintViolationException is thrown - nothing is resent to other queue. I would like to know does AMQ support something similar out of the box?

• Processing variable number of form fields

  I am working on a form which displays information about orders. Each order has a unique id, but they are not necessarily sequential on the form. Also, the number of fields can vary (one field per row on the form). The input into the form will not be mapped straight into the database, but will be added to the current value in the database, and then saved. An example of the form is in the picture below - the callout on the right shows the id for each row. I know how to generate the form like this, but I can't work out how I can easily process each of these rows reliably. I also know how to give each of the fields a unique identifier, like name="row-23", but how can I translate that name so that I can update the related record in the database?

• How to do query auto-completion/suggestions in Lucene?

  I'm looking for a way to do query auto-completion/suggestions in Lucene. I've Googled around a bit and played around a bit, but all of the examples I've seen seem to be setting up filters in Solr. We don't use Solr and aren't planning to move to using Solr in the near future, and Solr is obviously just wrapping around Lucene anyway, so I imagine there must be a way to do it! I've looked into using EdgeNGramFilter, and I realise that I'd have to run the filter on the index fields and get the tokens out and then compare them against the inputted Query... I'm just struggling to make the connection between the two into a bit of code, so help is much appreciated! To be clear on what I'm looking for (I realised I wasn't being overly clear, sorry) - I'm looking for a solution where when searching for a term, it'd return a list of suggested queries. When typing 'inter' into the search field, it'll come back with a list of suggested queries, such as 'internet', 'international', etc.
