• MySQL Enterprise Monitor 2.3.12 Is Now Available!

  We are pleased to announce that MySQL Enterprise Monitor 2.3.12 is now available for download on the My Oracle Support (MOS) web site. It will also be available via the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud in approximately 1-2 weeks. This is a maintenance release that contains several new features and fixes a number of bugs. • SQL Server 2008 Express - "Best" backup solution?

  What backup solutions would you recommend when using SQL Server 2008 Express? I'm pretty new to SQL Server, but as I'm coming from an MySQL background I thought of setting up replication on another computer and just take Xcopy backups of that server. But unfortunately replication is not available in the Express Edition. The site is heavily accessed, so there has to be no delays and downtime. I'm also thinking of doing a backup twice a day or something. What would you recommend? I have multiple computers I can use, but I don't know if that helps me since I'm using the Express version.

• How to cope with runaway Flash plugin in Google Chrome browser?

  I'm using Google Chrome for Linux, version 5.0.307.11 (Official Build 39572) beta with the Linux Flash plugin version 10.0 r32. Quite often, the Flash plugin goes wild and pegs the CPU with about 95% usage. Laptop gets hot, battery drains. I can diagnose the problem with Chrome's little process monitor (shift-Esc), and I can even kill the plugin, but then when I actually want to use Flash on a page, I can't find a way to restart the plugin; I have to exit and restart Chrome, which with 30 tabs open is a huge hit. Does anyone know what causes this problem? Does anyone have a better workaround (or heaven forfend, a fix)? [I struct out both with search and with Google's help site for Chrome.]

• nginx points the sub-directory of an alias folder to the base directory

  I am new to Nginx. Now I have a confusion on nginx configurations: My web site contains folders in different locations: location / { root /Path1 } location ^~ /personal { alias /Path2 } When I query http://mysite/personal, I am accessing the content of /Path2 instead of /Path1 Now I want to add a sub-directory in /personal with specific configurations, so I add: location /personal/download { autoindex on; } But I got 404 error when querying http://mysite/personal/download. According to the error log, I am directed to /Path1/personal/download, which is not correct. How can I configure nginx, such that all access to http://mysite/personal/* will be directed to the same directory in /Path2?

• X locks up with konqueror on comics.com

  If I browse to comics.com using konqueror under KDE on Fedora 11, X will, after a delay, lock up. The mouse will move, but no keyboard input is recognized, and the screen does not react to the mouse passing over objects on screen. I am able to ssh into the machine and issue shutdown -r now and have that work. The machine is a Dell XPS M1330 with Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c), and Fedora 11 is fully updated. Visiting the same site in Firefox does not cause a lockup. I am booting with nomodeset since it won't boot into X otherwise. I tried the other two accel options: EXA (still locks up) and XAA (X won't start). Any suggestions on how I can debug this? bugzilla

• How can I tell what Apache modules are available to me?

  I'm currently reading 'Definitive Guide to Apache mod_rewrite' and throughout the book there are other Apache modules mentioned that are better alternatives in given scenarios. This has got me wondering what all is installed on my site. I don't have SSH access to the server, and I don't have access to any of the config files (afaik). Is there any way for me to determine what is installed, or do I have to directly ask my host? I suppose certain commands could be run inside PHP (i.e. using backticks), but I'm not sure what the limitations of that are. Thanks.

  So I am trying to develop an activity feed for my site. Basically If I UNION a bunch of activities into a feed I would end up with something like the following. Chris is now friends with Mark Chris is now friends with Dave What I want though is a neater way of grouping these similar posts so the feed doesn't give information overload... E.g. Chris is now friends with Mark, Dave and 4 Others Any ideas on how I can approach this logically? I am using Classic ASP on SQL server. • AWS RDS MySQL remote connection extremely slow

  I have a site hosted on AWS EC2 (Elastic Beanstalk), with a MySQL database hosted on AWS RDS. Everything works fine on the production server, fast and all. However when I try to connect remotely from my local machine, it sometimes gets extremely slow (like 4 minutes to load the list of tables), or simply times out. I added my IP in the security group (which I did correctly, since it sometimes works). When it doesn't work, I at the same time check the prod server and it still looks good.

• What browser is sending user agent beginning mozilla/5.0+, tramslates & into &amp;

  We've got a website which has been running for a few years now. One of our customers has just started having an intermittent problem. Looking at our iis6.0 logs the service works correctly when they have a user agent beginning "mozilla/4.0+" but fails when the user agent begins "mozilla/5.0+". The particular customer only started having this problem on Wednesday. Does anyone know the browser/upgrade which changes the 4.0 to 5.0? The actual problem caused is that an "&" in a url parameter list is being encoded as "&amp;". Anyone seen anything similar? We have other users sending from browsers with the 5.0+ user agent without trouble. Sorry about the tags but don't have the rep to create new ones. • "Reboot and select proper boot device"?

  Hello I didn't find the answer in Clonezilla's site/mailing list archives. Maybe someone has already seen this issue and knows how to recover from it: On a test host, using www.partedmagic.com, I created two partitions: One to hold an OS I wish to use for testing (/sda1), and a second partition to hold images (/sda2) After trying out Windows7, I used CloneZilla to restore an XPSP3 image, but I get the following error message when rebooting: "Reboot and select proper boot device" Could it be that Clonezilla didn't save/restore the MBR? Gparted didn't let me set a partition as "active", so it could also be this, but I have no idea. Thank you for any help.

• automatic IIS worker process recycle fails

  The server is set to its default configuration to recycle the app pool every 1740 minutes. When this happens the following message is logged: A worker process with process id of '1234' serving application pool 'XX' has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit. Directly after logging this message, the web site is unresponsive. The only way to get it back online is by running iisreset manually. Does anyone know a fix for this behavior, other than turning the recycle feature off? Is it a known problem?

  I have a lot of cmd files i use daily for example to add users to local groups, installing printers, run as admin tasks etc. I like to take the scripts i use most frequently and add them to a tabbed hta file, but i have trouble finding a good guide on how to easily do it. Anyone having a good site to share with me? Or do i finally have to start with vb scripting? I have done some but it's so much faster to do a cmd file for me.

• Does JAXP natively parse HTML?

  So, I whip up a quick test case in Java 7 to grab a couple of elements from random URIs, and see if the built-in parsing stuff will do what I need. Here's the basic setup (with exception handling etc omitted): DocumentBuilderFactory dbfac = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder dbuild = dbfac.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = dbuild.parse("uri-goes-here"); With no error handler installed, the parse method throws exceptions on fatal parse errors. When getting the standard Apache 2.2 directory index page from a local server: a SAXParseException with the message White spaces are required between publicId and systemId. The doctype looks ok to me, whitespace and all. When getting a page off a Drupal 7 generated site, it never finishes. The parse method seems to hang. No exceptions thrown, never returns. When getting http://www.oracle.com, a SAXParseException with the message The element type "meta" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</meta>". So it would appear that the default setup I've used here doesn't handle HTML, only strictly written XML. My question is: can JAXP be used out-of-the-box from openJDK 7 to parse HTML from the wild (without insane gesticulations), or am I better off looking for an HTML 5 parser? PS this is for something I may not open-source, so licensing is also an issue :(

  Do you have an OS installed on your USB thumb drive? Booting from it in a VM is now possible, you’ll just have to use a simple trick to get it to work. Last week we showed you how to put Ubuntu on a USB drive in a separate partition, and we also discussed working with VMware Player (our favourite VM Client). But have you ever tried booting from a USB drive in VMWare? It doesn’t allow doing so, but we will force it to boot from a USB, with a bit of old geekery. My Client need a script or any solution, if he has two Database, One Test DB in which he tests his data on test portal and if he find it appropriate he can use those changes to be done in main DB to display on Live site.. Fior this he needs the solution to record or track all updation/deletion/insertion, so that he can do the same in main DB if found appropriate, NOTE: we have only one server, no separate server, hence binary log replication doesnt seems to be working for my case..

• Web authentication using LDAP and Apache?

  I am working on a project of setting up a web administered inventory database for my work (or if they don't want it then i'll enjoy learning about it) and hit the problem of allowing only authorized users to access the website (In its testing/development phase, I allow all people to navigate to the website to add entries to the database and query it). I am trying to make it so only particular users in the domain (Active Directory) are allowed to access the website after they are queried about their credentials. I read that Apache (I am using a LAMP server) has a means of asking visitors to the website to provide LDAP credentials in order to gain access to the site, but I wasn't sure if that was exactly what I was looking for. If anyone has experience in the LDAP configurations for Apache that I mentioned or any other means of securely authenticating with websites I would greatly appreciate advice or a direction to go Thank you!

• Apache VirtualHost running very slow on OS X 10.7 (Lion)

  I've set up a few virtual hosts in Lion and it's running very slowly. Here's is the strange part. If I make a symbolic link of the site in my ~/Sites folder (ln -s ~/mysite ~/Sites/mysite) and navigate to http://localhost/~me/mysite It's nice and fast the way it should be.

• How do I protect business critical data against fire?

  We have 72 hard drives that contain our webcast inventory. The number is increasing. We're located in a frame building and we are afraid of not only fire, but catastrophic fire. I've priced fireproof safes that hold to the required 125F for hard drives. Their price is through the roof. Seems to me if we made backups of each of the hard drives and stored them off-site somewhere, or contracted with an online backup storage company, we might run up a bill buying backup drives that would approach the $7,000 cost of the safe! What's the best way to protect our data from the risk of fire?

• Oracle SOA Suite customer panel: Successful Application Integration & SOA Projects

  At the recent SOA Suite customer panel, Roger Brown from UNS Energy, Fabio Ravagni from Cencosud and Paras Jain from Cisco discussed their recent SOA Suite implementations, business drivers and challenges, architecture and lessons learned. Roger started by describing how UNS redesigned their internet portal to improve their customer experience and reduce manual steps in their business processes. Through the use of Oracle Service Bus, Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Oracle Business Activity Monitoring, they provided more self-service functionality, automated their business processes and increased the use of their web site by 12.98% for number of visits and 33.58% for average visit duration. The screenshot below shows the UNS architecture: > Next Fabio described the challenges Cencosud faced through continuous expansion of their business, different standards and levels of expertise and large volumes of information. By introducing Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle Enterprise Repository, and with the help of Oracle Consulting, they significantly simplified their integration model, reduced their maintenance effort and increased their integration governance. • Where does apache store initialization state for mod_proxy_balancer

  I run apache2 on Ubuntu as a caching load-balancing reverse proxy in front of a group of application servers. I have noticed that the balancer maintains some state for some of the attributes visible in /balancer-manager such as whether an IP is enabled/disabled, load factor, etc. My site has periods of high (and low) usage, and recently as I added a new server to the working group I noticed that the load balancer picked up the new server but had it set to Disabled. I'm curious where that data is stored, and/or how it is initialized.

• Can I set up a 'Deny from x' that overrides other confs for debugging?

  I'm currently working on developing/deploying a Django application on Apache and am often fiddling with the debug settings which alter how Django accepts connections, ignoring or using ALLOWED_HOSTS. If DEBUG is False, it uses them, which is handy to keep up some walls around my construction site. However, the useful info it spits out when True is quite nice. I'm currently just using an SSH tunnel and just allowing localhost when DEBUG is False, but how can I keep everyone out without relying on the aforementioned ALLOWED_HOSTS? Editing the httpd.conf file which is in source control is a bit irritating; I've accidentally committed a few botched configs.

• Should I include HTML markup in my JSON response?

  In an e-commerce site, when adding an item to a cart, I'd like to show a popup window with the options you can choose. Imagine you're ordering an iPod Shuffle and now you have to choose the color and text to engrave. I'd like the window to be modal, so I'm using a lightbox populated by an Ajax call. Now I have two options: Option 1: Send only the data, and generate the HTML markup using JavaScript What's nice about this is that it trims down the Ajax request to the bear minimum and doesn't mix the data with the markup. What's not so great about this is that now I need to use JavaScript to do my rendering, instead of having a template engine on the server-side do it. I might be able to clean up the approach a bit by using a client-side templating solution. Option 2: Send the HTML markup What's good about this is that I can have the same server-side templating engine I'm using for the rest of my rendering tasks (Django), do the rendering of the lightbox. JavaScript is only used to insert the HTML fragment into the page. So it clearly leaves the rendering to the rendering engine. Makes sense to me. But I don't feel comfortable mixing data and markup in an Ajax call for some reason. I'm not sure what makes me feel uneasy about it. I mean, it's the same way every web page is served up -- data plus markup -- right?
