• PHP specifying a fixed include source for scripts in different directories

  I am currently doing unit testing, and use folders to organize my test cases. All cases pertaining to managing of user accounts, for example, go under \tests\accounts. Over time, there are more test cases, and I begin to seperate the cases by types, such as \tests\accounts\create, \tests\account\update and etc. However, one annoying problem is I have to specify the path to a set of common includes. I have to use includes like this: include_once ("../../../../autoload.php"); include_once ("../../../../init.php"); A test case in tests\accounts\ would require change to the include (one less directory level down). Is there anyway to have them somehow locating my two common includes? I understand I could set include paths within my PHP's configurations, or use server environment variables, but I would like to avoid such solutions as they make the application less portable and coupled with another layer which the programmer can't control (some web-host doesn't allow configuration of PHP's configuration settings, for example)

• Ruby on Rails - Currency : commas causing an issue.

  Looking on SO, I see that the preferred way to currency using RoR is using decimal(8,2) and to output them using number_to_currency(); I can get my numbers out of the DB, but I'm having issues on getting them in. Inside my update action I have the following line: if @non_labor_expense.update_attributes(params[:non_labor_expense]) puts YAML::dump(params) The dump of params shows the correct value. xx,yyy.zz , but what gets stored in the DB is only xx.00 What do I need to do in order to take into account that there may be commas and a user may not enter .zz (the cents). Some regex and for comma? how would you handle the decimal if it were .2 versus .20 . There has to be a builtin or at least a better way. • View bound to paged collection view not updating all of the time.

  I new to silverlight and trying to make a business application using the mvvm pattern and ria services. I have a view model class that contains a PagedCollectoinView and it is set to the item source of a datagrid. When I update the PagedCollectionView the datagrid is only updated the first time then after that subsequent changes to the data to not reflect in the view until after another edit. Things seem to be delayed one edit. Below is a summarized example of my xaml and code behind. • Why is the proper "respond_to" format not getting called?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of an odd issue. Really too odd to type out, but here goes. Basically I have a controller that refuses to "respond_to" using javascript unless I assign my "chart.generate_xml" to a variable before the "respond_to" block like so: @xml = @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) respond_to do |format| format.html format.js{ render :update do |page| page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @xml #page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) end } If I remove the upper "@xml= …" portion and go with the lower "page.insert", the "format.js" section doesn't get called. And if I try to force the format with "request.format = :js", I get the javascript returned as text. I'm not doing anything special here in that method call, so I'm not sure why it would choose to respond any differently. FWIW, the method that triggers this controller action is using JS to do so, so I'm confused as to why "format.js" isn't always getting called. Thoughts? Best.

• Scaffold default files are the best practice?

  Hey, i have some experience with MVC. but I'm new to rails. I'm using the scaffold command to generate some default files. The model looks clean and nice, but the controller and the views aren't really dry. The contents of new.html.erb and edit.html.erb are almost the same and the methods new/edit and create/update are doing almost the same thing. In other frameworks i've used only one view for updating and creating new entries and also the same method in my controller by setting the id as an optional parameter. Do they use this structure to keep things RESTful (i have not much of a clue about rest :()? Is it the best practice to use this default stuff for crud?

• msbuild/clickonce publish files generated during the build

  As a part of my build process I generate some files that should be included when creating a clickonce deployment. Here is a blog post of someone telling you how to include items that's not part of the project. However, as someone mentions in the comments of that blogpost, it won't update the deploymentmanifest when you do it in the "BeforePublish" task and the files won't get downloaded - it works fine if you do it in the "BeforeBuild" task though. This gives me a chicken and egg problem as I have to perform the build first to generate the files I want included.. Does anyone have a solution for this ? (p.s. at the moment generating the clickonce deployment using mage.exe is not an option, it have to be done using the Publish target)

  A user registers on our Rails app and they're given javascript to embed a widget in their website. The widget has a tabbed interface, like the JQuery tabs http://stilbuero.de/jquery/tabs_3/. iFrames have been tested, but the widget form factor and cross-domain policy negates the use of iframes. The widget is very dynamic and will often update the DOM with new content - and because of cross-domain policy, it looks as though JSONP is necessary. I understand that 'widget.js.erb' needs to create the widget layout, reference a stylesheet, render the tabs, etc - but once a tab is clicked, how does the widget request the content from the Rails app and render it in the DOM?

• ReSharper Unit Test Runner: Support for Deployment Items

  I like the Unit test runner in ReSharper 4.5, and would like to use it with my MSTest tests, but one thing annoys me: In some of our solutions, we have set up some Deployment Items in the .testrunconfig file. The ReSharper Unit Test runner does not seem to respect this, so I get errors when trying to run the unit tests from ReSharper. Is there any workraound for this ? Update: citizenmatt's answer was correct, the option to use a .testrunconfig with ReSharper exists in the Options dialog of ReSharper. You have to select the unit test provider on the list, then the controls to do that appears. (That was not obvious or discoverable, at least not for me ;-)

• Prevent Jcarousel from resetting to beginning position on page postback?

  I have a nice looking jarousel running from an asp:listview element, with asp:imagebuttons for the images. When clicked, the images in the carousel send the image id to querystring, and the new page is loaded with a larger version of the image and some asp:labels are filled in to describe the image. It looks and works great, except once the page reloads the jcarousel resets to original position, which is confusing to the user. What's the best way to prevent this? I tried using an UpdatePanel but couldn't figure out how to pass the querystring variable with the partial page update. I could pass the variable in a hidden field, but this wouldn't be very SEO friendly.

  Hello, this is just teorethical question. I use JDBC with my Java applications for using database (select, insert, update, delete or whatever). I make "manually" Java classes which will contain data from DB tables (attribute = db column). Than I make querys (ResultSet) and fill those classes with data. I am not sure, if this is the right way. But I've read lot of about JDO and another persistence solutions. Can you please recommend some? Which are modern? Will be used in the future? Some advantages of JDO over JDBC (in simple words). I've been able to google lot of this stuff, but opinions from the "first hand" are always best. Thank you for responses, Mike

• real time updates for new page events

  I know there's a few questions knocking around on this topic but none quite the same. I'm currently searching by location for all the pages relating to a particular geographic location and caching their events in a database. The problem being I have to currently loop through all the pages i'm watching frequently to check for updates. At the moment the 10,000 Pages I'm keeping track of takes a good while to update. It would be much neater (and nicer to fb) to be notified instead of polling. Does anyone know of a more efficient to do this? Thanks Ben

  Trying to run the code coverage tool in Visual Studios for a set of unit tests. Adam from Think First, Code Later has had the same problem: I wanted to get the code coverage metrics for the project. Naturally, I fire up the solution in Visual Studio 2008, go to the Test menu, click Edit Test Run Configurations, and click Local Test Run. I then click Code Coverage to turn on code coverage for a given assembly and POOF the Local Test Run Configraution window just disappears. He recommends installing this hotfix to fix the problem, however a) when I run that hotfix I get the message “None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup.” and b) there is no Silverlight in our solution. Any other ideas for a fix?

• JQuery-tmpl Template Switching Not working.

  I'm trying to implement "more/less" functionality using the official jquery-tmpl plugin. I've looked at the examples, but I cannot seem to get the functionality to work in my own implementation. When I click on one of my "More" buttons, I seem to get an error thrown of: Uncaught TypeError: Property 'tmpl' of object #<an Object> is not a function This is my implementation here From what I can tell, the example I'm trying to replace is doing the following: Render the "Master" template On-click: Find the corresponding template object (tmplItem) to the clicked element. Pass in reference to a new template. Call the update function to re-render. Have I understood the documentation wrong? From what I can tell I'm doing the same thing as the example on the official documentation.

  Hi, I have a table with 6 columns containing HTML content with some markups in it and now when moving to a new designed site most of this HTML code has to be deleted. More or less all tags except and . Is there a nice way of doing this, identify all tags end delete them within the data? I'm sure there are no < symbols in the test so a regular expression would maybe work? My alternative is to fecth every row, process it and update the database but I'm guessing this is possible to do in SQL directly. Thanks, Stefan

• Autmatically create table on MySQL server based on date?

  Is there an equivalent to cron for MySQL? I have a PHP script that queries a table based on the month and year, like: SELECT * FROM data_2010_1 What I have been doing until now is, every time the script executes it does a query for the table, and if it exists, does the work, if it doesn't it creates the table. I was wondering if I can just set something up on the MySQL server itself that will create the table (based on a default table) at the stroke of midnight on the first of the month. Update Based on the comments I've gotten, I'm thinking this isn't the best way to achieve my goal. So here's two more questions: If I have a table with thousands of rows added monthly, is this potentially a drag on resources? If so, what is the best way to partition this table, since the above is verboten? What are the potential problems with my home-grown method I originally thought up?

• Why is the upgrade manager freezing when upgrading to 13.10

  Earlier today I started to upgrade to 13.10 only to return much much later and notice that the update manager was still running. It seems to be frozen and I am reluctant to hit ctrl+C. I can't launch nautilus using the icon on the launcher. When I try to run it via the terminal, this is what happens: $ nautilus Could not register the application: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface `org.gtk.Actions' on object at path /org/gnome/Nautilus My printers aren't showing up when I attempt to print. I don't know whether these a symptoms of the same problem. Should I let the update manage continue to run, or should I shut it down? • Changing folder names in Visual Studio when using SVN

  I am using VS2008/VS2010 with Resharper 5, TortoiseSVN 1.6.8.19260-x64, and AnkhSVN 2.1.8420.8. Most operations I do in Visual Studio are reflected fine in SVN, however, renaming folders in a project can cause problems when I try to submit my changes. Also all the namespaces in the C# source files under the renamed folder need to be updated to reflect the name change. What is the best way to rename the main project folder or any sub folders and ensure there are no issues with SVN? Should it be done outside Visual Studio? What is the best way to update all the namespace changes? Is search/replace the only way? Are there any best practices regarding folder names and their contents?

  Hi, I have setup for Android development with 1.5 SDK on Mac O.S X - Eclipse 3.5. I want to upgrade the SDK, so as i followed to choose Window-Android SDK and AVD Manager from Eclipse. But it throws error as follows: XML verification failed for https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml. Error: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'sdk:sdk- repository'. Failed to fetch URL I tried "http" instead of https, but still getting the same error. I don't know why such crap error comes. If i see Android website, http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-CN/sdk/index.html its confusing.   Hi, I have a table in sql where the date format is stored in Hijri. Now I am working on a vb.net application where I have to let the user update that dateField. So is it possible that if I place a datepicker(which is in Gregorian) and user selects the date and its converts into Hijri date before updating. I mean when the user selects the date and clicks the save button the date should be updated in hijri format in the sql . For now , the user is entering the date manually on a tms AdvEdit. • Refresh layout while filling it

  Hi guys, I have an activity with a HorizontalScrollView. When it opens, I start filling this view (or rather, a container layout inside it) with another views. This is done from another thread by using handler.post. The views are added in bunches of 15, and when there are no more views to add, I start updating them with new data (this is a kind of streaming data from a server). The problem is that the scrollview is empty until all of the views are added. As soon as they are all added and start updating, the scrollview gets drawn. How do I refresh it in the process of adding views? I don't want the screen to be empty for 3 seconds while all of the views are added. Thanks a lot. UPDATE: turned out this problem is not specific for HorizontalScrollView, this is the case for any generic layout.
