  Hi, I need to create some reports, in different formats (xls, pdf, rtf). I am currently using JasperReports, in conjunction with IReport. I have no major complaints about it (except for the cases when IReport messes up my xml files), but i've been having some problems with it, when exporting to xls files and with some "special" characters, such as '&'. Is there a widely use alternative? Is JasperReports the right choice?

  Hi, Is there an alternative in OpenSSL to SSL_set_connect_state()/SSL_set_accept_state() for X.509 certificate based authentication? The problem is that in my application the client and server do not communicate using sockets, and the establishment of direct connection between them is not possible. So what I want from OpenSSL is to 'expose' the intermediate SSL context establishment messages which I would then convey to the party at the other end. Thanks for your help!

  Hi, I need to find the driving distance between 2 locations. I do not need to display the directions in a map, just need to calculate the distance, which I need to use in my application. Does MapKit allow this? Is there an alternative that can be used? I am able to get forward geo-coding using CloudMade, but there doesn't seem to be an option to obtain driving distance.   I have run across several posts and articles that suggests using things like simulated annealing to avoid the local minima/maxima problem. I don't understand why this would be necessary if you started out with a sufficiently large random population. Is it just another check to insure that the initial population was, in fact, sufficiently large and random? Or are those techniques just an alternative to producing a "good" initial population?

• Access 2007 can I capture the "clicked" field using an OnClick event on a report?

  In Access 2007 I want to be able to click on a name field in a report and call a separate report with personal information about the person who's name was clicked to start the event. This would be as an alternative to creating a subreport or including the subreport fields in the main report in the interest of saving space.   On my midterm I had the problem: t(n) = 8T(n/2) +n^3 and I am supposed to find its big theta notation using either the masters or alternative method. So what i did was a = 8, b = 2 k = 3 log8 (base 2) = 3 = k therefore, T(n) is big theta n^3. I got 1/3 points so i must be wrong. What did I do wrong?

  I am using 7zsfx [Link] to package Java apps together with a JRE as a single file executable. Is it possible to do something similar with Adobe AIR apps if I get a license from Adobe to distribute the runtime? Also, does anybody have any alternative ideas for deploying Adobe Air apps with an embedded runtime? (Reason: Target computers may not have the Air runtime installed, and target users may not have permissions to download and install the runtime.)

Preferably using the annotated timeline Google has (since it has a nice wrapper plugin for rails): http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/gallery/annotatedtimeline.html However, there doesn't seem to be a way to create a step chart using the annotated timeline or any other chart in the Google API. I'm looking to make a plot like this: If there is no way to do this with the google API, is there an alternative graphing library that can handle such a task?
