• Java Hibernate id auto increment

  Hy I'v a little problem with hibernate on netbeans. I've a table with an Auto increment id : CREATE TABLE "DVD" ( "DVD_ID" INT not null primary key GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY (START WITH 1, INCREMENT BY 1), "TITLE" VARCHAR(150), "COM" LONG VARCHAR, "COVER" VARCHAR(150) ); But this auto increment is not properly detected with Reverse Engineering. I get a map file with this : <id name="dvdId" type="int"> <column name="DVD_ID" /> <generator class="assigned" /> </id> i've looked on google and on this site ... foud some stuf but i'm still stuck.. i've tried to add insert="false" update="false" on the map file but i get back : Caused by: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Attribute "insert" must be declared for element type "id". • How can I build a generic dataset-handling Perl library?

  Hello, I want to build a generic Perl module for handling and analysing biomedical character separated datasets and which can, most certain, be used on any kind of datasets that contain a mixture of categorical (A,B,C,..) and continuous (1.2,3,881..) and identifier (XXX1,XXX2...). The plan is to have people initialize the module and then use some arguments to point to the data file(s), the place were the analysis reports should be placed and the structure of the data. By structure of data I mean which variable is in which place and its name/type. And this is where I need some enlightenment. I am baffled how to do this in a clean way. Obviously, having people create a simple schema file, be it XML or some other format would be the cleanest but maybe not all people enjoy doing something like this. The solutions I can think of are: Create a configuration file in XML or similar and with a prespecified format. Pass the information during initialization of the module. Use the first row of the data as headers and try to guess types (ouch) Surely there must be a "canonical" way of doing this that is also usable and efficient. Thanks p.

  I have been searching all day and reading many tutorials and still I am confused. I am working on a project that has the following requirements as specified by the client (customer - not to be confused with client app): Connect to a remote server and verify that connection was successful. Connect to Web service on said server via SOAP. Authenticate with service using public key encryption Upon successful authentication, push a list of products and categories to a MSSQL database on remote server via the Web service. The client is a Winforms application written in C#. So far, I have created a WCF Service Application with separate services for the products and categories but I cannot figure the rest out. • Dynamic loading a class in java with a different package name

  Is it possible to load a class in Java and 'fake' the package name/canonical name of a class? I tried doing this, the obvious way, but I get a "class name doesn't match" message in a ClassDefNotFoundException. The reason I'm doing this is I'm trying to load an API that was written in the default package so that I can use it directly without using reflection. The code will compile against the class in a folder structure representing the package and a package name import. ie: ./com/DefaultPackageClass.class // ... import com.DefaultPackageClass; import java.util.Vector; // ... • Does this popup view violate HIGS?

  Will using a popup view to present a comment submission form violate the HIGS? I may have one popup with selections that goes to the final popup. Two popups back to back. This is more similar to a modal type of view than an alert or action sheet as described by the HIGS: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/ModalViews/ModalViews.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH11-SW1 under the section 'Using Modal Views'. Basically the type of view I'm shooting for is a combination of an alert with a custom view. It's sort of a mini view since it will be centered in the middle of the screen but not take up all of the viewing area. I'm fairly sure that is a violation however, but I'm looking for a few opinions on it. I believe what needs to happen is use a modal view, which will cover the entire view.

Work in progress) Javascript testing using Selenium Background processing Document databases (a tentative maybe, at this stage) Monitoring an application And a little more. • how do copyright permission systems for content hosting sites work?

  I am wondering about subscription sites that host content, like recorded performances from concerts. I'm sure there is a tangle of copyright permissions that must be granted for these video/audio files to be hosted. For example, if a band plays a cover of another band's song, permission must be obtained from not only the band that performed, but the band that owns the song. Perhaps even from the venue that hosted the performance, to record the video and post the content. I am curious how websites that host content like this work. How might an automated copyright system work to keep track of who has ownership of certain performances and obtain permission from said owners to record and post their content.

• ModalPopupExtender doesn't work on IE6 frame layout

  I'm using a "frame" layout similar to the one in this excellent answer: a div #top at the top of the page, a div#left on the left, and a div #main with the main content. The #top and #left divs contain navigation menus. Now I want to use a popup div using the AjaxControlToolkit ModalPopupExtender inside the content (#main) div. This works fine on IE8 (where #top, #left, #main all have position:fixed), but when I run it on IE6, the modal background only covers the #main div - I need it to cover the whole of the page including the #top and #left navigation divs. Looking at the script for ModalPopupExtender, it appears to be searching up the parent hierarchy until it finds a parent with position relative or absolute. And in the IE6 rendering, the #main div has position:absolute because position:fixed is not supported, which I guess explains what is happening. Any suggestions for the best/easiest way to get this working properly on IE6? Ideally without modifying the ModalPopupExtender code, but I'll do this if I have to and it's the best solution.

• Finding What You Need in R: function arguments/parameters from outside the function's package

  Often in R, there are a dozen functions scattered across as many packages--all of which have the same purpose but of course differ in accuracy, performance, theoretical rigor, and so on. How do you gather all of these in one place before you start your task? So for instance: the generic plot function. Setting secondary ticks is much easier (IMHO) using a function outside of the base package, minor.tick(nx=n, ny=n, tick.ratio=n), found in Hmisc. Of course, that doesn't show up in plot's docstring. Likewise, the data-input arguments to 'plot' can be supplied by an object returned from the function 'hexbin', again, from a library outside of the base installation (where 'plot' resides). What would be great obviously is a programmatic way to gather these function arguments from the various libraries and put them in a single namespace. edit: (trying to re-state my example just above more clearly:) the arguments to plot supplied in the base package for, e.g., setting the axis tick frequency are xaxp/yaxp; however, one can also set a/t/f via a function outside of the base package, again, as in the minor.tick function from the Hmisc package--but you wouldn't know that just from looking at the plot method signature. Is there a meta function in R for this? So far, as i come across them, i've been manually gathering them in a TextMate 'snippet' (along with the attendant library imports). This isn't that difficult or time consuming, but i can only update my snippet as i find out about these additional arguments/parameters. Is there a canonical R way to do this, or at least an easier way? Just in case that wasn't clear, i am not talking about the case where multiple packages provide functions directed to the same statistic or view (e.g., 'boxplot' in the base package; 'boxplot.matrix' in gplots; and 'bplots' in Rlab). What i am talking is the case in which the function name is the same across two or more packages.

• What encoding to use for exporting to CSV?

  I'm developing a java app that exports data to CSV files, intended to be opened in Excel by end users. We just noticed that the export function uses Java's platform default encoding. This causes umlaut characters to be lost and unit test to fail on the build server (which is configured to have US-ASCII as its platform default encoding exactly to catch such potential problems). The question is: which would be the best encoding to use? How does Excel determine what encoding to use? Does it use something platform-specific that presumably matches Java's platform default? I'm currently leaning towards hardcoding Cp1252 - that should cover the target machines (the deployment environment is actually specified) and would fix the test problem. From googling around, Excel does not seem to handle UTF-8 well, so that's out, and sticking to the platform default encoding would require some sort of workaround hack for the tests.

• Ways to make your WCF services compatible with non-.NET consumers

  I'm working on adding a WCF services layer to my existing .NET application. This layer will be hosted in IIS and will be consumed by a variety of UIs, at least one of which will not use Microsoft technologies. I can make a Web service in WCF that is consumed by my .NET application. However, I'm concerned about things that work in the .NET world but not with other technologies. For example, simply throwing an exception from my WCF service works fine in .NET. But according to this article, one should approach exception handling with fault contracts to ensure compatibility with non-.NET consumers. The author labels this lack of foresight as The Fallacy of the .NET-Only World. Does anyone have any high level suggestions or links to articles that cover interoperability between WCF and non-.NET consumers? I realize I'm potentially working against the YAGNI principle. I'm only really looking to avoid things that will be incredibly difficult to overcome later when the developers of the non-.NET consumer report problems to me.

• Proper permission and directoy location for Git Version Control

  I am using Git Version Control on an remote server and I have set up a repository that multiple people will be using to push/fetch from. I have put the repo under /srv/subdir/git/.git I have been experiencing problem after problem it seems like. a) Is this location suitable for handling a project that will need to be accessed/modified by multiple developers and a designer? Or is there a better location? b)Do I need to modify the permissions on the subdir/ and git/ directories in order to allow remote access? If I do what is the appropriate permissions I should allow? I know this is a faily long request/question, but unfortunately like many other topics with well covered documentation, documentation does not always cover best practices. I would appreciate anybodies advice and suggestions? Thanks

• In Django, how to define a "location path" in order to display it to the users?

  I want to put a "location path" in my pages showing where the user is. Supposing that the user is watching one product, it could be Index > Products > ProductName where each word is also a link to other pages. I was thinking on passing to the template a variable with the path like [(_('Index'), 'index_url_name'), (_('Products'), 'products_list_url_name'), (_('ProductName'), 'product_url_name')] But then I wonder where and how would you define the hierarchy without repeating myself (DRY)? As far I know I have seen two options To define the hierarchy in the urlconf. It could be a good place since the URL hierarchy should be similar to the "location path", but I will end repeating fragments of the paths. To write a context processor that guesses the location path from the url and includes the variable in the context. But this would imply to maintain a independient hierarchy wich will need to be kept in sync with the urls everytime I modify them. Also, I'm not sure about how to handle the urls that require parameters. Do you have any tip or advice about this? Is there any canonical way to do this?

• Floating Menu CSS/Javascript issues

  I'm new to all this so thanks for being patient. Ok so I'm building a site with a Floating Javascript menu. The original code is from: Jtricks Absolute Floating Menu Here's the issue: When viewing the site in a mobile browser, zooming in initially caused the floating javascript menu to leave the far left of the page and cover content on the page. I fixed this by locking it into a fixed width div on the left side of the page. Now the issue I have is, I don't want the fancy animation of the javascript. A simple CSS script for a fixed window is fine. The only issue is, everything I've tried has done the same "free floating" thing when zoomed in on mobile browsers and I can't seem to find a fix. Anyone have any ideas?

• How do I use the Microsoft VSTO interfaces?

  hi, I would like to create an addin for microsoft outlook, and am using the visual studio tools to do so. However I am really struggling to get my head around the use of interfaces within the VSTO environment - the resources on MSDN show many useful looking interfaces, but I am unsure how to use these interfaces to access data. For example I am trying to add a new folder into an IMAP account but am finding it very difficult to work out how to get outlook to do so. Can anyone recommend any good resources for learning how to use VSTO (I have VSTO for dummies, but it doesn't cover the level of detail I need, I have been using MSDN, but I have found it doesnt offer much information on how to use the interfaces etc.) thanks.

• Default Values Specflow Step Definitions

  I'm starting out in the world of SpecFlow and I have come across my first problem. In terms of keeping my code DRY I'd like to do the following: Have two scenarios: Given I am on a product page And myfield equals todays date Then... Given I am on a product page And myfield equals todays date plus 4 days Then... I was hoping to use the following Step Definition to cover both variants of my And clause: [Given(@"myfield equals todays date(?: (plus|minus) (\d+) days)?")] public void MyfieldEqualsTodaysDate(string direction, int? days) { //do stuff } However I keep getting exceptions when SpecFlow tries to parse the int? param. I've checked the regular expression and it definitely parses the scenario as expected. I'm aware that I could so something as crude as method overloading etc, I was just wondering if SpecFlow supported the idea of default parameter values, or indeed another way to achieve the same effect. • Is there a semantic difference <span>'s and <div>'s?

  I know when coding HTML, I'm supposed to keep semantics in mind, e.g., h1 needs to be a main header, h2 needs to be a subheader, tables need to be tables, use <em> for emphasis instead of <i>, etc. Is there a proper difference between divs and spans except one is a block and the other is in-line? When I was learning I was told that <span>'s were for styling text mid-line. If I had a small blurb of text that I needed positioned at a certain point in my webpage, one that doesn't warrent a <p> tag, would I use a span should I stick with div's? What if that text needs to cover two lines (i.e., it needs a width) if it contains nothing but text, what should I use?

• Jquery toggle with two elements

  I am using a toggle on a graphic to slide out a contact form. The problem is, the contact form can cover up the graphic element on low resolutions. I thought a solution would be to include a "close this" inside the form, that would use the same toggle effect. When I add the close this element to the code, instead of working in tandem with the original graphic element, it starts the chain back over, and slides the contact form even further out. • Does anyone know of a vim plugin or script to convert special characters to their corresponding HTML

  I develop websites for corporate clients, so we see the ®, ™, etc. chars a whole lot. Sometimes I paste in huge blocks of copy, which might even contain pretty quotes (“ ”) or other strange characters from word processors. So, my question is this: Does anyone know of a vim plugin or script that can, in one fell swoop, convert all these characters to html entities? I think this covers all the bases of the entities it would be nice to have: http://web.forret.com/tools/charmap.asp So, for the characters above, they would be replaced with &reg;, &trade;, &ldquo;, &rdquo;, etc. I tried the htmlspecialchars vimball (http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2377), but no dice. It only performs its replacement like the PHP htmlsepcialchars function, replacing html-conflicting characters, and doesn't cover any additional special characters.

• Data Usage Checker Tools

  Hey All, I am about to begin a project for a new client, and am worried about a few things concerning data usage on their internet plan. We're in an area where most of the major networks don't cover the area, and the ones that do, have very expensive plans, with very low data allowance per month. I need to develop an app, but part of the problem lies with checking database values every 30 seconds. It's pretty important that this check is happening every 30 seconds, as the database is actually updated all day everyday, approx. every 5seconds (apparently). Each row in the database consists of about a page full of text if you were to paste it into MS Word. So, are there any logical ways of minimizing data usage in my case, and also how am I able to see exactly how much data is used just to establish a connection to the database? Are there any tools for this kind of info? Thanks :)

• Validate decimal number in (known) national format

  PHP has many built-in functions to validate numbers but they all expect input in computer format: 1234.56. I need to validate stuff like 1,234.56 (English) or 1.234,56 (Spanish), together with some typical attributes (accepted range, max number of decimals, etc.). I started writing my own function but I soon got lost. It's easy to read the user input into a float variable but I want to be able to detect numbers with invalid formats like 1,23456.7 or 1..25. Do you have any recommendation on the subject? (Decimal and thousand characters are known beforehand and it's okay to hard-code digit groups as three, there's no need to cover Indian number format.)
