  I'm having trouble with Java on a virtual server, it always gives me the following error: # java Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I first solved this by using the CACAO virtual machine (of OpenJDK, by putting it first in jvm.cfg), but then I run into problems with my web application (Play! framework based, gives me nasty LinkageErrors). So I cannot use that VM. Instead I'd like to just use the normal server VM and set -Xmx128M by default. How can I do that? Related: this question

  I have Solaris machine with IP 10.10.10.100 and default getway 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 remark - solaris machine connected to cisco switch via cross cable and from switch to my laptop I configure my laptop to connect to my Solaris machine so my laptop IP is 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 but something not clearly I have ssh connection from my laptop to my Solaris machine ( I mean I in my solaris machine ) but from Solaris machine I can do ping to 10.10.10.1 ? ( how it can be ??? ) please advice why?

This can be solved by specifying a maximum heap size and running "java -Xmx256m" But is there anyway to permanently fix this error (i.e. set the default heap size to 256MB so that I do not need to specify the max heap size every time I run the command)

When i try to open http://myaddress/ I receive 403 Forbidden. When I try to open http://myaddress/index.php everything is fine. How do I set the server to look for index.php file by default? P.S The sysadmin is not currently here, so he cannot do it for me.

• Reinstall default apps on Galaxy S3 before updating to Jelly Bean [migrated]

  I want to update my Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean but after downloading the firmware using Kies, it starts updating, but then it stops with a "dead" Android with a red triangle icon. I think it's because I have removed some default apps like ChatOn and Yahoo widgets. Is there any way to get them back or to install the official Jelly Bean update without a factory reset? I don't want to reinstall my apps again and lose my settings each time I need to update the OS (I also don't want bloatware apps that are pre-installed). Any ideas?

• Why Netbeans 6.8 remote project (php) uploads all files by default

  Hi I wanted to know if there's some option for disabling Netbeans to upload all files of a recently imported remote (php) project. I always check "Upload files on run", in the project configuration. But when I click on run Netbeans selects all files by default (I modified only some). The file checkboxes cannot be disabled at once and you have to do this one by one (imagine you have 5000 files...). That's annoying. Do you know any solution? thank you

  I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-Bit, though I doubt that matters, in this case. So, how do you set the default windows size/positions? Is there a registry tweak for this? Going to Tools->Folder Options...->View Apply to Folders or Reset Folders doesn't work. So, whenever I open a new window to a random new folder I haven't opened before, I don't want it to take 75% of the screen. Is there any way I could make it open smaller? (So it opens correctly the first time.)

• Allow Internet Access with Default Gateway on Windows 7 VPN Server

  I have a Windows 7 box at home (which I'll refer to as Home-VPN) that runs a simple PPTP VPN server. I have a range of 2 IP address (192.168.1.10-192.168.1.11) to give out, although the server is only able to give out one concurrent connection. Ports 1723 & 47 are correctly forwarded to the server. IPv6 is disabled on both Home-VPN and the client. I setup Home-VPN just like this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s5JxMG06L4 I can connect to it just fine but I can't access the Internet when connected to Home-VPN, all outside web servers (eg. google.com, mozilla.org, apple.com) are unreachable. I know I can uncheck "Use Default Gateway on Remote Servers" on the client side under IPv4 settings but that will route all my traffic through my current connection, rather than through the VPN, defeating the purpose of said VPN. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I have run a program to determine where the weaknesses are in my system, and apparently there is a medium severity problem by accepting IPV6 redirects. When I implement the following line in my post script in my kickstart, I can't access any websites externally with wget, or ssh/scp in from my computer. sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.default.accept_redirects=0 Is there a workaround to this so that the system will still be hardened but I will be able to access systems that are external?

• How do I choose a package format for Linux software distribution?

  We have a Java-based application that, to date, we've been distributing as a tarball with instructions for deploying. It's mostly self-contained so deployment is fairly straight-forward: Untar on the disk you'd like it to live on; Make sure Java is in your path and a suitable distro and version; Verify ownership and group on all the files Start up the server processes with our start script If the user wants to get in to start-on-boot stuff with SysV we have some written instructions and a template init file for it in our tarball. We'd like to make this installation process a little more seamless; take care of the permissions and the init script deployment. We're also going to start bundling our own JRE with the application so that we're mostly free of external dependencies. The question we're faced with now is: how do we pick a package format for distribution? Is RPM the standard? Can all package management tools deal with it now? Our clients primarily run RHEL and CentOS, but we do have some using SuSE and even Debian. If we can pick a distro-agnostic format we'd prefer that. What about a self-extracting shell script? Something akin to how Java is distributed. If we're dependency-free would the self-extracting script be sufficient? What features or conveniences would we lose out on going with the script versus a proper package format meant for use by a package manager?

If I ping 8.8.8.8 from M1, everything is ok, replies are received. Pinging from M1 to M3 and viceversa is also possible. I have configured M1 as gateway trafic forwarder using firestarter package and stopped firewall with it. iptables policies are ACCEPT for everything. Problem: I have tried ping-ing ip 8.8.8.8 from M3 but without success. What could be the source of this problem?

• xforms: how to prevent xxforms:default value from over-writing user input

  I have a dropdown to display status, which can be Enabled(true) or Disabled(false). Here is my xml instance. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <page> <file-name></file-name> <status></status> </page> By default, status should be true. So I have set it in binding as follows. <xforms:bind nodeset="./status" xxforms:default="true()" /> When user chooses Disabled in the dropdown, the status should get saved as false. Here is the xml that gets saved when I save the form. <page> <file-name>StatusDisabled.xml</file-name> <status>false</false> </page> When I open the form in edit mode, this is the xml I get in the XML inspector widget. <page> <file-name>StatusDisabled.xml</file-name> <status>true></status> </page> Status gets set to true because of xxforms:default, even though the xml is saved with a false value for status. How can I fix this? • Changing default compiler in Linux, using SCons

  On my Linux platform, I have several versions of gcc. Under usr/bin I have: gcc34 gcc44 gcc Here are some outputs: $ gcc --version gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-48) $ gcc44 --version gcc44 (GCC) 4.4.0 20090514 (Red Hat 4.4.0-6) I need to use the 4.4 version of gcc however the default seems to the 4.1 one. I there a way to replace /usr/bin/gcc and make gcc44 the default compiler not using a symlink to /usr/bin/gcc44 ? The reason why I can't use a symlink is because my code will have to be shipped in a RPM package using mock. mock creates a minimal linux installation from scratch and just install the specified dependencies before compiling my code in it. I cannot customize this "minimal installation". Ideally, the perfect solution would be to install an official RPM package that replaces gcc with gcc44 as the default compiler. Is there such a package ? Is this even possible/good ? Additional information I have to use SCons (a make alternative) and it doesn't let me specify the binary to use for gcc. I will also accept any answer that will tell me how to specify the gcc binary in my SConstruct file.

• User Produtivity Kit - Powerful Packages (Part 1)

  User Productivity Kit provides the ability to create a variety of content types including robust topics on system process and web pages with formatted text and graphics. There are times when you want to enhance content with media types not naively created by User Productivity Kit, media types such as video, custom animations, forms, and more. One method of doing this is to maintain these media files on a web server - separate from the User Productivity Kit player content and link to the files using absolute URLs such as http://myserver/overview.html. While this will get you going, you won't benefit from the content management capabilities of the UPK Developer. Features such as check-in / check-out, history, document properties, folder permissions and more are not available to this external content. Further, if you ever need to move that content to a server with a different name or domain, you'd need to update all your links. UPK version 3.1 introduced a new document type - the package. A package is a group of folders and files that you manage in the Developer library as a single document. These package documents work in the same manner as any other document in the library and you can use all of the collaborative content development features you see with other document types. Packages can be used for anything from single Word documents, PDF files, and graphics to more intricate sets of inter-related files commonly seen with HTML files and their graphics, style sheets, and JavaScript files. The structure of the files and folders within a package will always be preserved so this means that any relative links between files in the package will work. For example, an HTML file containing an image tag with a relative link to a graphic elsewhere in the same package will continue to function properly both when viewed in the Developer and when published to outputs such as the UPK Player. Once you start to use packages, you'll soon discover that there is a lot of existing content that can be re-purposed by placing it into UPK packages. Packages are easily created by selecting File...New...Package. Files can be added in a number of ways including the "Add Files" button, copy & paste from Windows Explorer, and drag & drop. To use one of the files in the package, just create a link to the file in the package you want to target. This is supported throughout the Developer in places such as section & topic concepts, frame links and hyperlinks in web pages. A little more challenging is determining how to structure packages in your library. As I mentioned earlier, a package can contain anything from a single file to dozens of files and folders. So what should you do? You could create a package for each file. You could create one package for all your files. But which one is right? Well, there's not a right and wrong answer to this question. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The right decision will be influenced by the package files themselves, the structure of the content in the library, the size and working style of the development team, how content is shared between different outlines and more. The first consideration can be assessed the quickest. If the content to be placed in the package is composed of multiple files and those files reference each other, they should be in the same package. There are loads of examples of this type of content. HTML files with graphics and style sheets, HTML files with embedded Flash movies, and Word documents saved as HTML are all examples where the content is composed of multiple files and the files reference each other in some way. Content like this should always be placed in a singe package such that these relative links between the files are preserved and play properly in the UPK Player.   I am using Windows 7. I installed Eclipse and updated to include WPT. HTTP Server and Tomcat are installed with XAMPP Package. They run properly and they can be accessed via localhost. But I found that tomcat server CANNOT BE STARTED. • Visual Studio Package for 2005/2008/2010 ??

  We are looking to turn an internal tool we have developed into a Visual Studio Package that we would sell to other developers. The tool will impact the custom editor and/or custom languages. Visual Studio 2010 has redesigned the API's heavily to simplify much of the work involved for these types of integration but the key question we have is: What is the typical adoption pace of new Visual Studio versions? Is there any information out there on adoption rates based on history? How many shops are still using 2005? This will help us to consider whether to target just 2010 using the new APIs or whether trying to go back and support 2008 (maybe 2005) and testing it forward.

  I'm looking for a basic web-based file management application. It must have an affordable price, and fairly easy installation would be a plus. ASP.Net / IIS based would be easiest for me to work with. Basically, I'd like it to create a secure web site where myself and a few people can exchange various types of files, etc. I'm looking for a package I can install on my own server rather than a web-based service, as I think I can get more space at a good price point this way. I could go custom coding, but I figure this is such a generic need, there must be something already mature out there at a decent price. What has worked best for you?
