  • 3G/Edge/GPRS IP addresses and geocoding

    Hey all! So, we're looking to develop a mobile website. On this mobile website, we'd like to automatically populate a user's location (with proper fallback) based on their IP address. I'm aware of geocoding a location based on IP address (mapping to latitude, longitude and then getting the location with that information). However, I'm curious how accurate this information is? Are mobile devices assigned IP's when they utilize 3G, EDGE, and GPRS connections? I think so. If that is so, does it map to a relatively accurate location? It doesn't have to be spot on, but relatively accurate would be nice. Thanks! -Steve

  • algorithm for checking addresses for matches?

    I'm working on a survey program where people will be given promotional considerations the first time they fill out a survey. In a lot of scenarios, the only way we can stop people from cheating the system and getting a promotion they don't deserve is to check street address strings against each other. I was looking at using levenshtein distance to give me a number to measure similarity, and consider those below a certain threshold a duplicate. However, if someone were looking to game the system, they could easily write "S 5th St" instead of "South Fifth Street", and levenshtein would consider those strings to be very different. So then I was thinking to convert all strings to a 'standard address form' i.e. 'South' becomes 's', 'Fifth' becomes '5th', etc. Then I was thinking this is hopeless, and too much effort to get it working robustly. Is it? I'm working with PHP/MySql, so I have the limitations inherent in that system.

  • Compare range of ip addresses with start and end ip address in MySQL

    I have a MySQL table where I store IP ranges. It is setup in the way that I have the start address stored as a long, and the end address (and an id and some other data). Now I have users adding ranges by inputting a start and end ip address, and I would like to check if the new range is not already (partially) in the database. I know I can do a between query, but that doesn't seem to work with 2 different columns, and I also cannot figure out how to pass a range to compare it. Doing it in a loop in PHP is a possibility, but would with a range of e.g. 132.0.0.0-199.0.0.0 be quite a big amount of queries..

    I'm trying to make a test for checking whether a sys.argv input matches the regex for an IP address... As a simple test, I have the following... import re pat = re.compile("\d{1,3}.\d{1,3}.\d{1,3}.\d{1,3}") test = pat.match(hostIP) if test: print "Acceptable ip address" else: print "Unacceptable ip address" However when I pass random values into it, it returns "Acceptable ip address" in most cases, except when I have an "address" that is basically equivalent to \d+ Any thoughts welcome.   • Trouble Avoiding Microsoft Outlook's Email Warning

    I have a set of records in Microsoft Access that I am trying to send in an Email. The email feature works great. Except a warning message pops up every time a message is ready to send, and the user has to click "Allow" or "Deny" for every email sent. I looked up a workaround, and have been following the tutorial for it: http://www.everythingaccess.com/tutorials.asp?ID=Outlook-Send-E-mail-Without-Security-Warning. My problem is that when I put my message in the function it always returns false, and the message fails. Any help would be appreciated.   • Devise authenticating with username instead of email

    I'm new to Devise and have it working fine by using an email address as the authentication key. However, I have a use case which requires a username instead and I can't seem to get it working. I've added a string column, "username" to the users table, changed the fields from :email to :username in the sign-in form, and have changed the authentication key in devise.rb to :username yet when I go to sign in I'm met with this prompt: "Please enter an email address".   • TcpListener problem - re-binding to same port with different local addresses

    I'm trying to do the following: listen on some port for loopback connections only, and then start listening on any IP address. Here is the code: TcpListener l1 = new TcpListener(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Loopback, 12345)); l1.Start(); Socket s = l1.AcceptSocket(); Console.ReadKey(); //s.Close(); l1.Stop(); TcpListener l2 = new TcpListener(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 12345)); l2.Start(); l2.AcceptSocket(); Console.ReadKey(); The problem is that if a client connects while listening on the Loopback address (l1), then no other client can connect to the Loopback address when the second listener (l2) starts listening. why is that? Another thing I noticed is that if I close all clients that connected to l1 (the remarked line), then l2 does accept loopback connections. Any ideas?

    Some where I have this in some generic class. public static String getRequestIp (HttpServletRequest request){ String ipaddr = request.getHeader("X-FORWARDED-FOR"); if (ipaddr == null)ipaddr = request.getRemoteAddr(); return ipaddr; } For every request i call that method and in a certain moment i insert a record in a mysql database. In most cases it works normally and i can see a record for every request with a valid ip address in the right field. But sometimes where the IP should be there is something like this. "unknown, 93.186.30.120" or "10.0.1.169, 186.38.84.3" Apache is at the front listening at port 80 and used as proxy to Tomcat that listens at port 8081. My router config would not allow to pass any conection that come by any port other than 80. Any Help? Thanks in advance.

  • Problem with ScriptManager when trying to email rendered contents of ASP.NET page

    I recently added a Telerik control to an ascx that is included in an aspx page. This page has a "Send email" button, which when clicked will email the user the rendered output of the page. The Telerik control I added requires a ScriptManager, so I added that to the ascx. However, now the email button won't work. I get the following error: The control with ID 'myIdHere' requires a ScriptManager on the page. The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it. I know the script manager exists because the page works fine when I go that url, it is only failing when it tries to email the rendered output. Here's a code snippet, any ideas as to whether there is a problem with scriptmanager when doing this sort of thing?   • IIS - IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions - not blocking IP addresses

    I have added an IP address in IIS7 in the IP address and domain restrictions. From what I have read this should block all traffic to the folder apart from the allowed IP address. For some reason this does not work. If I access the section from my work computer all ok, when I access it from my phone I can still see the page. Does anyone have any idea why IIS is not blocking all the other IPs out? Thanks

  • Facebook email Permission, oath2, doesnt work?

    since the new Auth Dialog from Facebook (for my App & homepage), I cannot get the dialog to show that my homepage/app needs the users email when connection to my homepage/app. In the Auth-section of my app I've added "email" to the User & Friend Permissions. Also I've added it to the referal when someone clicks the "Login with facebook"-button. When someone clicks the Facebook-button, he/she redirects to a page which has the PHP-code with Facebook SDK PHP (latest). Here's how I generate the send-to-url for the dialog: $login_url = $facebook-getLoginUrl(array('req_perms' = 'email,publish_stream')); header("Location: ".$login_url); But when the Dialog pops up, the only permission request it does is "basic information". I need to request the Email. Am I stupid or is it a bug somehow? I've also recreated the App.

    Hello, If I have email address of a user, is there any way to find the profile of the user? I know it can be done using the uid and name of the user (GetInfo() or fql.query). The specific problem I am trying to address is when I search for a user using the name field, I end up getting multiple results (people with the same name). I have the email address of the user I want to search, so if I can search using email address, I will be able to reach to the specific user. Alternately, if there's a way to find uid for a given email address, I can get the user I am looking for. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Incorrect file. Reupload it and try again'; When I run this script, it doesn't even output an error. It just stops. It loads for a bit, and then it just stops.     alright, im looking at a code here and the idea is difficult to understand. #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Point { public : int X,Y; Point() : X(0), Y(0) {} }; void MoveUp (Point * p) { p -> Y += 5; } int main() { Point point MoveUp(&point) cout <<point.X << point.Y; return 0; } Alright, so i believe that a class is created and X and Y are declared and they are put inside a constructor a method is created and the argument is Point * p, which means that we are going to stick the constructor's pointer inside the function; now we create an object called point then call our method and put the pointers address inside it? isnt the pointers address just a memory number like 0x255255? and why wasnt p ever declared? (int * p = Y) what is a memory addres exactly? that it can be used as an argument?
