  Hi I am a newbie and set up a debian lenny at home and set up the web and email server in the default installation. I followed the instructions for Exim and ran dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config and set it up for mydomainhere.com. I created a one line message file and attempted to test exim by running the command exim [email protected] < msgfile. I also tried using exim4 Exim but i get same error -bash: Exim: command not found. Obviously I am ignorant on how to run exim and test. I also tried to run a php file that sends a test mail and had no success. That script is tested and works fine if I send it from my hosting isp on a different domain. So I know the php script is good. I set up the debian system behind a netgear firewall and uses 192.168.1.x ip . The web server works great and users can visit my site. But I am lack the knowledge on how to get the email working. Appreciate is someone can guide me.

  I have a python script which reads email addresses from a database for a particular date, example today, and sends out an email message to them one by one. It reads data from MySQL using the MySQLdb module and stores all results in a dictionary and sends out emails using : rows = cursor.fetchall () #All email addresses returned that are supposed to go out on todays date. for row is rows: #send email However, my hosting service only lets me send out 500 emails per hour. How can I limit my script from making sure only 500 emails are sent in an hour and then to check the database if more emails are left for today or not and then to send them in the next hour. The script is activated using a cron job.

  I would like to create an app such that I can send an email with a JPEG attachment and then display it on my site. I am fairly certain that the Mail API allows me to do this, but if it isn't possible please let me know. My biggest concern is what are the limits on the attachment size my app can receive, and what are the quotas related to receiving email? The email quotas I saw seemed to specify quotas for outgoing email. Is it different for incoming mail?

What would be the best way of going about this? I have looked at PHP's IMAP functions but this does not appear to be the most appropriate method when a simple bash script may be all that is required?

  I built a Linux server (CentOS). I have an application that sends email using the Zemd_Mail class which uses SMTP. The application configuration asks for Host Port Return path (Y/N) but does not provide explanation. What do I need to set this up? Can I use a gmail account to forward the mail? When I try to send mail now, it does not arrive.   Hi all I'm using the following method to create an attachment from a MemoryStream: public void AddAttachment(Stream stream, string filename, string mimeType) { byte[] buffer = ((MemoryStream) stream).GetBuffer(); Attachment attachment = new Attachment(stream, filename, mimeType); _mail.Attachments.Add(attachment); } Note that the first line is not necessary isn't necessary for the attachment functionality, it's just useful to have the byte[] handy during debugging so that I can see how big it is. (It generally has around 80,000 elements.) The code runs fine and the email is sent. When Outlook receives the email, in the Inbox it displays the attachment symbol, but when you go into the email the attachment isn't there. Unfortunately I don't have access to the mail server to find out more about the email, e.g. what the attachment looks like, its size etc. Can anyone suggest what properties of the MemoryStream argument might tell me if it is in some way invalid for attachment? Or think of anything else I might try? Thank you. David

I want to confirm that they have chosen the right teams, then check if the email in the session and the email confirmation text match. If they do match Then i want to submit the form. If they dont match, I want to alert the user they dont match, and just return to page so user can check emails and then resubmit. This script is in my header. EDIT: Haha sorry i submitted one before and it didnt go through, forgot to add my problem!! When you click the button it comes up with the confirmation, clicking either yes or no doesnt do anything. The alert doesnt pop up if they dont match and if they do match it doesnt submit. Also it might be good to note I had it without the email confirmation if statement and it worked fine (going to the submit page)

  I can't seem to get my php script to send email. <?php echo "Does this page work?"; mail('my email address', 'test subject', 'test message'); ?> First, I have set the mail function settings in the php.ini file as follows: I checked my email account settings on outlook. It does not require authentication, its port is 25, and its type of encrypted connection is 'Auto'. Given this I configured my php.ini file accordingly: SMTP = ssl://smtp1.iis.com smtp_port = 25 Then I set: sendmail_from: my email address The echo statement prints out in the browser, so I know the php file is recognized and processed. But the browser also shows the following error: Warning: mail() [function.mail]: "sendmail_from" not set in php.ini or custom "From:" header missing in C:\xampp\htdocs\mailtest.php on line 3 I have clearly set the sendmail_from so I don't know what else to do. I have also tried removing the 'ssl://' part from the SMTP setting in the php.ini file, and configuring the php5.ini file. Which of these .ini files should I be configuring anyways?

So I have two prolems: What's wrong here?   I have received an email that has no content, just a file called smime.p7m attached. I was looking into the OpenSSL and it's smime module but I cannot figure out exactly how. I must be doing something wrong. I extracted the certificate chain form the p7m file. # openssl pkcs7 -inform DER -in smime.p7m -out pkcs7.pem # openssl pkcs7 -in pkcs7.pem -print_certs -out certs.pem Then I tried to decrypt: # openssl smime -decrypt -in smime.p7m -signer certs.pem -out smime.eml No recipient certificate or key specified And also with my server's SSL cert: # openssl smime -decrypt -in smime.p7m -recip server.nopass.key.crt.ca.pem -out smime.eml Error reading S/MIME message 140078540371784:error:0D0D40D1:asn1 encoding routines:SMIME_read_ASN1:no content type:asn_mime.c:447: Can anyone shed some light on what steps I need to take to extract the email?

• Dovecot: no auth attempts in 0 secs (IMAP protocol)

  I'm having a lot of problems configuring dovecot ony vps. I'm already able to send email using port 110 and to receive email using port 25, but I can't connect using port 993 and 995. I'm using self-signed ssl certificates. When I try to connect to 993 this error is logged: Jun 8 19:06:39 MY_HOSTNAME dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts in 2 secs): user=<>, rip=MY_IP, lip=MY_VPS_IP, TLS, session=<MY_SESSION> When I try to connect to 995 here is the error log: Jun 8 19:08:17 MY_HOSTNAME dovecot: pop3-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts in 0 secs): user=<>, rip=MY_IP, lip=MY_VPS_IP, TLS: SSL_read() failed: error:14094416:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert certificate unknown: SSL alert number 46, session=<MY_SESSION> EDIT: I was able to fix this part by refreshing my mail client ssl cert. • SMTP Server Times Out for 1 of 2 ISPs

  For months I've been using a 5g sprint card for my laptop to check email. I have gmail, and three other accounts all configured in Thunderbird. Recently, I got AT&T internet service at my house and I discovered that I cannot send email when connected to my home service. I can receive just fine, but I can't send. If I plugin my 5g card, I can sent/receive with no problems. At home I'm connected wirelessly through a router. What could be causing this interruption? I even tried pinging my smtp server only to see it timeout when connected via AT&T. If more details are needed, I'll be happy to share.

  We are using qmail as our mail application on a linux server. A few weeks ago our server crashed and we had everything installed from scratch and our users started to send & receive email again. The problem is they have lost their old emails. We have a back up of the whole qmail directory. But I don't know how to restore the old emails without losing the new ones. It's worth mentioning that I don't have any problem with restoring old sent mails. When I copy email files into .sent-mail/cur directory, I have them restored in sent box of users, but restoring files in /cur directory doesn't work for inbox emails and I can't get them restored.

  I have a Postfix email setup. It's handle a few domains (i.e. I have them in my mynetworks in my main.cf). I have a normal unix account and use that to log in, and get my mail. My personal email account is of the form [email protected]. I have a new domain new.com, and I want to forward [email protected] to [email protected], however I don't want to forward [email protected]. Someone has suggested just forwarding all 'info' to 'user', and then using procmail on my user@ account to remove the [email protected] The server is Ubuntu.

• Can I use MX records to deliver some addresses to Google Apps and some to my server?

  I have whm installed on my VPS, which my domain MX records are pointing to: 0:mail.mydomain.com and whm/cpanel has mail forwarding rules which pipes certain @mydomain email addresses into my CRM software. But for certain email addresses I want to forward into Google Apps. For example, [email protected], [email protected] pipes into cPanel -- CRM (mail.mydomain.com) but [email protected] should be going to Google MX records. Is that possible? The reason why is I want to register for Google Apps such as analytics and other Google services under [email protected]. My initial thoughts were to add a subdomain such as [email protected] and point that subdomain's MX records to Google.. but I want to avoid this if possible.
