    Microsoft has released recently free eBooks on various Microsoft Technology. The best part is that all these books are available in ePub, Mobi and PDF. You can download them to your local machine or eBook reader and read them. This is a great start as many important subjects are now covered and converted into an eBook. I personally read through a few of the books and found they are very comprehensive and and detailed. The goal is not to cover complete technology in a single book but rather pick a single topic and discuss it in detail. The source of the book is white paper, Technet wiki as well book online and it is clearly listed right bellow the book title. I have previously written two books by focusing on the same subject and I had great pleasure writing it as well. Writing on focus subjects gives complete freedom to author to explore the a single subject without having burden to cover everything which is associated with that technology at large. Just like eBooks mentioned earlier my SQL Server Wait Stats was inspired from my article series on SQL Wait Stats. The latest book SQL Server Interview Question and Answers was derived from my article series on SQL Interview Q and A. Writing book is an absolutely different concept than writing blog posts. When I was converting my blog posts to books, I ended up writing 50% new material and end up removing many repetitive content which shows up in blog series. It was indeed fun to focused book at the same time it was a great learning experience as an individual.   • How can I pretty print erb in BBedit indenting rails tags and not just markup?

    I want to re-indent my code but the rails tags <% foo %> get aligned to the left with no indentation. What I'm using is: markup utilities format pretty print Does anyone know if there is a way to reconfigure this behavior? UPDATE: I just found this out but cant seem to get it working: "The 'Pretty print' option for Markup - Utilities - Format is now implemented internally using a Dreamweaver-style source format profile. This affords slightly prettier output than was possible before. Advanced users can override the factory format profile by placing an appropriately constructed file at ~/Library/Application Support/BBEdit/SourceFormat.profile." I opened the bbedit app package, found the file, copied it to the folder indicated in "application support" and tweaked the desired indentation width just as a test before touching anything else, and it doesnt seem to do anything.

  • Format External HD on Airport Extreme Base Station?

    I just got an Airport Extreme Base Station. I am planning to use this one replace my current Linksys router. This works fine. My another purpose of getting this device is to use its USB port to connect to several external HDs as my backup Time Machine. I can see one 500GB HD through Airport Base Station. However, I cannot format it by using Disk Utility. What I did is to connect the HD to my iMac directly first and then clean and format the disk by Disk Utility application. Then I move the HD to the Airport Base Station. After that I can designate the HD as my Time Machine destination. Is there any way to format the HD connected to Airport Base Station? Any issues to use an external HD through Airport Base Station for Time Machine backups?

  • Website Ethics / legal issues, image copyrights

    Ignoring the technical implementation of a website for a second, assume a website that is similar to twitter but with pictures. A user say something and puts a picture of whatever they said. As the nature of the internet, the images will most likely not be his/hers image. There are 2 options that I see for dealing with this: 1. The user will post a URL of the picture and the website will pull the picture from that URL everytime someone enters that page 2. The website will save the image in its own database of images and display the image to the visitors 'locally' The problem with option #1, while it saved storage, I see an issue with 'stealing' other websites bandwidth and if my website has many many visitors it could cost the image-hosting websites a lot and possible even crash it if the server can't handle the load. The problem with opion #2, while it saves the load to other websites, it practically takes pictures that could have copyright on them. Which option is better to implement in terms of legal issues and ethics? When do I need to contact another website to request permission to use the images from that site? Does anyone really care about that anymore. Where can I read about this?

  • System network service uncompatable after harddrive change and format

    After changing out the hard drive in my dell optiplex 750, and reinstalling ubuntu, my computer tells me the system network services are not compatable. Because my cd drive does not work, I installed this by placing the hard drive in another computer an dusign the mini.iso to install it. I need networking capabilities becuase I want to use this computer as a web server. The on-board ethernet card is a intel 82566 something. If you need more information, and can tell me how to get it, just ask. Please help.

  • How do I theme the Nautilus background image?

    I want to change the background image in the Nautilus file browser. My idea is to put my own style in the background. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and Nautilus is version 3. I know that I have to change the nautilus.css file of the theme, but the problem is that there is not a parameter for the background. I just want to apply an image but I can't find the file or parameter to change it. The CSS file is in the directory /home/UserName/.theme/MyTheme/gtk-3.0/apps. I've changed the nautilus.css file. I wrote two new lines using CSS style but I don't know where the correct place is to put it. The lines are: background-image: url("carbon.jpg"); background-repeat: repeat; Obviously I put the image called carbon.jpg in the same directory of nautilus.css, but this change doesn't work because I need to know whichs class displays the Nautilus file browsing frame. If I find this class I guess that this code will work. If someone knows how to do it, please tell me because I really want to make this change.

  • Remove encryption from USB flash drive

    It all started when I was attempting to format my PNY USB drive because it was full of junk. When it asked me what type of file system, I selected FAT but there was a checkbox below that said "Encrypt" and I accidently checked it and continue. I had no choice but to come up with a passphrase for it, and so I did, thinking I was able to remove that encryption. But after that at Disk Utility I thought I would find a "Remove Encryption" button or something like that but I didn't. I tried formatting it to remove the encryption but it gives me an error: Error Formatting, The device is busy" Detail>>> One or more block devices are holding /dev/sdb/.   • Deployment from OVA format

    I am deploying a VM using a OVA format. The size of OVA format is 57 GB. Currently free space on my datastore is 388 GB. At the time of selecting Disk Format type if shows me in red that the disk size required is 1 TB therefore you cannot select THICK provisioning. Therefore, i selected THIN provisiong. It THIN provisioing i am showed that Estimated Disk Usage is 112 GB which is less than the free space available. But even after selecting THIN proviosing at the time of deployment it throws an error that it cannot create disk as the size of disk is larger than the maximum specified limit. My block size is of 1 MB. Pasting my exact error here: Failed to deploy OVF package:File [datastore1] IMS Tester 1/IMS Tester1_2.vmdk is larger than maximum size supported by datastore 'datastore1

  • Not detecting HDD after installing Ubuntu 12.04!

    After installing Ubuntu 12.04, which I'm using right now and it works great, my extra hard drive was detected the first time I turned on my computer but then it does not show anymore on my Home Folder, when I run the Disk Utility says that has a few errors but when I try to fix it, says that hard drive is busy and cannot do anything else. I've unmounted it and mounted again but nothing happens. Do you know what can be going on? Cause the first time that I was able to see my hard drive it had all the files I have, but I don't know if deleting the partition will format the whole hard drive or just the ubuntu files. THANKS in advance! BY THE WAY, I'm new to Ubuntu... :S

    I recently bought a new ADATA external Classic hard drive 500GB. I have transferred around 29GB of data on it till I install my new windows 7 operating system. After some work with the hard drive (copying / deleting ... files) . I closed it for some reason and it couldn't open again asking me to format. I don't want to format the hard drive, I have important data I need...Is there a way I can retrieve my data.     i have a list of users, with minions, something like this: User52: minion10 minion12 User32: minion13 minion11 i've been keeping in an array where the "location" is the id, like this: Users: [52]User minions: [10]minion [12]minion [32]User minions: [13]minion [11]minion so i can access them easily like this: user[UserID].minions[MinionID] (ex: user[32].minions[11]) but when i print it or send it by json i get something like this: {,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,minion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,minion} but should i keep using like this or should i change to something like this: User = function(){ this.minions = ...; this.getMinion = function(value){ for(var m in this.minions){ if(this.minions[m].id == value){ return this.minions[m]; break; } } } } and get it like this: user.getMinion(MinionID); Question: i get better performance using a "short" array but using loops every time i need a minion, or using "long" arrays, but no need for loop and getting values directly from the id "name"?

  • Windows 7 Shortdate Format Ignored

    I am moving a copy of an ASP.net web application running on a windows server 2003 box to a Windows 7 Laptop. On the win server 2003 box the locale was set to United States and shortdate format was M/DD/YYYY. On the Windows 7 machine it is DD/MM/YYYY which is breaking the application. I have tried changing all the locale settings under controlpanel-regions to United States and rebooting with no luck. I also tried explcitly setting the shortdate format to M/DD/YYYY under the region settings but the web application seems to ignore it. How can I change the Windows 7 shortdate format so an ASP.net application will recognize it ?

  • Would Like Multiple Checkboxes to Update World PNG Image Using Mogrify to FloodFill Countries With C

    Hi. I'm seeing in another forum if the best way to do this is with Javascript or Ajax but I'm wondering if there is an even easier simpler way. I'm trying to create a web service where users can check which countries they have visited from a list of 175 or so and a World map image would then instantly update with a filled color. There are other similar services, but I'm envisioning mine to be both updating from checks in checkboxes and by clicking on the target country in the displayed image say with an imagemap. Additionally other solutions display all the visited countries in the same color. I would like different colors for different countries or at least for those countries that touch. Eventually I would like to include a feature that enables the choice of which colors to assign countries. I found a Sourceforge project called pwmfccd. It's simply an open source image of the world and the coordinates on the PNG image for all the countries. You can use mogrify from ImageMagick and floodfill to fill the countries with color. I have done this successfully, locally with batch files. My ISP has told me where mogrify is located, basically "/usr/bin/mogrify". I now have a horrendously complicated cgi script which if it worked is set to redraw the world map image with each checkbox. It's here. It also redraws the whole web page with each check. The web page starts here. Of course this is not at all efficient, and I think probably the real way to go is Ajax or Javascript, so that maybe just the image gets changed and redrawn, not the whole web page. Sorry I don't even know the difference between Javascript and Ajax and their relative merits at this point. I suppose you could make just one part of the image update with each check or click on the image instead of even just the image redrawing, but I have never even heard of a hint at being able to do that for irregularly shaped image elements like countries. So I guess an Image map and sister checkbox entries tied to mogrify events redrawing the user's personal copy of the image with an image refresh would be the only way to go. So how do you do this with something other than Javascript or Ajax or is that definitely the way to go and if so, how would you do it? Or can you after all cut up a web based image into irregular puzzle shaped piece which you can redraw individually at will. Thanks in advance for reading and considering answering this post.

    Is there any way to upload an image (UIImage) directly from an iPhone app to a user's wall/feed? All the samples I see are either using a json-embedded link or they use the photos.upload call with album ID (aid) which results in the user getting the image in his photo album(s). What I want to do is to upload an (UI)Image created (by the user) inside an iPhone app and upload to his/her wall. Is this possible? Sample code would be highly appreciated.
