• How to Install WebLogic 12c ZIP on Linux

  I knew that WebLogic had this small ZIP distribution, of only 184M, but what I didn't know was that it is so easy to install it on Linux machines, specially for development purposes, that I thought I had to blog about it. You may want to check this blog, where I found the missing part on this how to, but I'm blogging this again because I wanted to put it in a simpler way, straight to the point. And if you are looking for a how to for Mac, check Arun Gupta's post.  So, here's the step-by-step: 1 - Download the ZIP distribution (don't worry if your system is x86_64)Don't forget to accept the OTN Free Developer License Agreement! 2 - Choose where to install your WebLogic server and your domain, and set as your MW_HOME environment variableI will use /opt/middleware/weblogic for this how to export MW_HOME=/opt/middleware/weblogicMake sure this path exists in your system. 'mydomains' will be used to keep your WebLogic domain. mkdir -p $MW_HOME/mydomain 3 - If you don't have your JAVA_HOME environment variable still configured, do it. Point it to where your JDK is installed. export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/default-java 4 - Unzip the downloaded file into MW_HOME unzip wls1211_dev.zip -d $MW_HOME 5 - Go to that directory and run configure.sh cd $MW_HOME ./configure.sh 6 - Call the setEnvs.sh script . $MW_HOME/wlserver/server/bin/setWLSEnv.sh7 - Create your development domain. • Ubuntu 14.04 install fails with Via S3 UniChrome Pro graphics

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro laptop(it's quite old yes, has about 30GB Hard Drive and I think 192mb of RAM) which currently has Windows XP installed (which I'd like to keep for the time being). I have downloaded the 32-bit Desktop ISO and used unetbootin to create a Live USB for this laptop. When I boot from USB, I arrive at the unetbootin Grey and Blue menu and pick either "Try Ubuntu without installing", or "Install Ubuntu". The menu goes away and an Ubuntu loadscreen showing UBUNTU and four dots which progressively change between white and orange. At about the second color changing cycle a white underscore symbol appears next to the fourth dot and flickers. There is some leftover text from the kernel boot still visible, but there is no graphical desktop. • How do I install Intel ethernet drivers?

  I just bought a Lenovo T420, I booted the live CD and couldn't connect to my wireless router so I figured I needed the drivers for it. I have the last version of Ubuntu(12.04). It's a Intel® 82579 Gigabit Ethernet Controller So I went on intel's website and downloaded the Drivers for Linux and compiled them with make install. Here's the tutorial I followed: Linux Driver Install I have a few question though, What are these doing : modprobe e1000e ifconfig eth0 up dhclient eth0 ping intel.com As far as what I've read, modprobe seems to add the driver to the list of drivers for the kernel, but is that operation only good for one session? The two other lines, I don't understand either what they are doing. What does he mean at the end when he mentions : Note: Whenever the kernel version is upgraded you will need rebuild this driver. And are these steps permanent? Or do I have to add them to some boot.conf file for everytime I boot. Anyways, the steps worked for me and I have established a connection with my router, I just need to know if I need to do additional steps to keep the driver permanently etc.

• I cannot boot Ubuntu from WUBI install with windows 7, get an error message every time

  i have tried several times to install ubuntu using wubi, i can't use a disc as i have a notebook computer and there is no optical drive. the download and installation all seem to work well but whenever i try to boot ubuntu at the windows 7/ubuntu menu it comes up with this error screen. I have used both the C: drive and the D: drive to install Ubuntu several times each, it's always unsuccessful. "Windows has failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer Choose your language settings and then click 'next' Click repair your computer. If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr Status: 0xc000000F Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt." I use an ASUS x501a with windows 7. What do i do to fix this? I want to be able to dual boot Windows 7 and ubuntu. Thanks a lot :)

  I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I'm affraid I've installed a virus on my computer (I've clicked a link which was a virus), I'd prefere to check if everything is fine. I've installed clamAV using Synaptic. The installed version was 0.96.5, while the most recent version is 0.97.6. When I was trying to update virus database, I got a warning that the version of clamAV I'm using is outdated. Since I didn't know how to update the software by Synaptic or apt (both show the installed version as the newest) I've uninstalled all and downloaded the recent version from sourceforge. I've unpacked the tar.gz archive, entered the folder but when I type ./configure I'm getting the message: configure: error: Please install zlib and zlib-devel packages When I type sudo aptitude install zlib zlib-devel The terminal output says there is no such packages (there is no package zlib-devel and there is many packages which name contain zlib). I suppose the link contained probably the Windows virus, but I'd prefere to make sure there is nothing in my computer. As well as I'm not sure if the virus, even without harming my system, can send itself to my e-mail contacts or not.

• Can I install 12.04 packages on 11.10?

  I'm running 11.10 and am trying to apply the fix to this bug in Empathy, shown at the very bottom. There is an updated package for the offending component available in the Precise repository, and someone even posted a backported .deb package for use on Oneiric. However, when I try to install that package, it seems to have a dependency on a package that isn't available for Oneiric: (Reading database ... 254452 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace telepathy-indicator 0.0.7-0ubuntu1 (using telepathy-indicator_0.1.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb) ... Unpacking replacement telepathy-indicator ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of telepathy-indicator: telepathy-indicator depends on libunity9 (>= 3.4.6); however: Package libunity9 is not installed. dpkg: error processing telepathy-indicator (--install): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Errors were encountered while processing: telepathy-indicator The person who posted the backported telepathy-indicator package indicated that it depends upon libunity-dev-5.0; the latest version in the Oneiric repositories is a 4.0 vintage. I also can't find a libunity9 available for Oneiric, so I'm wondering: is it possible to just add the Precise repository to my list and pull the updated packages from there, or should I not expect that they would operate correctly?

• Windows 8 install app for multiple user accounts

  I purchased Adera episode 2 intending to play through it with my son. We each have our own user account on the same PC. When my son logged in, he was prompted to purchase the app which I had already purchased, installed, and played on the same PC. So I checked the Terms of Use. After selecting an app in the store, there is a Terms of Use link on the left side under the Install button. It is almost impossible to identify it as a link unless you put your mouse over it. The Terms of Use are standard across all apps in the store, not specific to particular apps. The terms of use indicates that the app may be installed on up to five devices, but says nothing about multiple user accounts on those devices. However, this Microsoft blog article indicates that it is allowed. Say, for example, that your family has a shared PC. You have previously used your Microsoft account to purchase a game that all your kids like to play. You can install it for each of your kids by having each of them sign in to their Windows accounts on the shared PC, then launch the Store and sign in to the Store using your own Microsoft account. There, you’ll see all your apps and you can re-install the app on your kid’s Windows account. Installing apps on multiple user accounts on a shared PC still only counts as one of the five allowable PCs where you can install apps. So I have two questions: Is it permissible under the Terms of Use to install the app under multiple accounts on the same device? If so, how do I do so given that my son has already signed into the store using his own Microsoft account.

• Can't install Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on a dual-drive MacBook Pro 8,2

  Good afternoon, this is the first time I participate here as I'm new to Linux. I've been trying to solve the following problem for over a week without any sign of success so I hope there's a much more knowledgeable person here that can give me a solution. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (8,2) with Mac OS X running in a SSD. Then, instead of the Optical bay, I have a HDD in where I would like to install Ubuntu to run it natively. I've tried to do the normal installation process, with or without rEFIt, but it seems the problem resides on the communication between the device containing the Ubuntu .iso file and the laptop. It doesn't allow communication with the boot CD or USB drive. It usually says: “Loading bootlogo...” after I click on the “boot from CD, Linux Icon”. After trying several things, I would like to know if I could install Ubuntu on the HDD as an external HDD (using a friend's Window's system) and then simply put it back into my laptop so as to become an Internal HDD again. I guess, I would have to reinstall many drivers and so on, but would this approach work? Thanks in advance and sorry for this huge block of text

• Unable to install drivers of any kind of device on windows 8.1

  Windows 8.1 is unable to install drivers. First, I wanted to install Android ADB drivers for my Chinese Android Phone. I downloaded the relevant drivers from the manufacturers site and enabled USB debugging on my phone and tried to install it but Windows failed to find any drivers in the driver folder. After searching on google, I got to know that I will have to edit the win_usb.inf file in order to install the drivers so I did the editing part also. Added these line: %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 to both NTamd and NTx86 sections but the problem persists. Phone's current hardware id is: VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 I noticed that I need hardware ID with &MI_01 appended at the end. But Windows detects the device with the above hardware ID. I have the webcam drivers so I uninstalled WebCam Drivers to check if they can be installed back but I am also not able to install drivers for it. Windows is detecting the camera without that &MI_01 part. Please help. I cannot install webcam nor my android phone.

• Ubuntu cannot see Windows 7 partitions on install

  I've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 as a dual boot with Windows 7 on my Dell latitude e6510. It is currently running Windows 7 and I have used the MS disk tools to shrink the Win 7 NTFS partition to make room for Linux. The issue I'm having is that when I run Ubuntus installer by booting from CD it sees the entire hard drive as unallocated space. I have also tried Kbuntu 10.10, Fedora 14, booting a Gparted 0.8.0 usb drive, and Ubuntu "install in Windows" with wubi they all have problems. EDIT: When I run the "try Ubuntu" option on booting from cd it can mount my Windows partition and I can view the files. The output of sudo parted -l when running in try Ubuntu mode: Warning: /dev/sda contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT partition tables. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using an msdos partition table. Is this a GPT partition table? • Can't install GTX 680 drivers on 12.04

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop. I have three monitors, and after installing, ubuntu only detected one at 1080p. I downloaded the driver from the nvidia website, but when I stop lightdm and try to run the driver, it gives me an error message: ERROR: Unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option. I tried instead to install the driver via the terminal, with the X ppa. The installation seemed to work, but when I rebooted, my display was at 640x480 resolution, with no other options for resolution. The NVIDIA X Server settings program is there now, but when I run it, it simply tells me that I don't seem to be using their driver, and that I should run nvidia-xconfig as root. Doing so doesn't help, I simply get the same issue again. I checked the file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and it's an NVIDIA file (has nvidia in the header). Does anyone know something else I can try? EDIT: Forgot to mention, I tried installing drivers via the "Additional Drivers" GUI utility, there were two options, one of them marked "(post-release updates)". I tried both of them, in both cases it tried to download and install for a while, then said that there was an error, and that a description could be found at /var/log/jockey.log. Both logs were over 700 lines

• Attempting to install ubuntu 11.10

  I installed version 9 sometime ago and since have forgotten the process for partitioning, or the layout is different. I have 5 partitions but only have windows xp installed on the pc in question with that being the one of those 5 partitions which is ntfs 34444 mb its - a 40gig hard-drive. My first question is... is there a way to get a screen shot of the partitioner when I am running the demo session straight from disc... these 5 partitions are fragmenting the other 4ish gig needed to install.. I get an error message which says go back and make sure 1 partition has at least 2.5 gig or so. But I have no idea what I am supposed to set these remaining 4 partitions to in order to proceed.. I have read up on install guides and understand that one must be "/" root and another as swap... but to no avail thus far have the correct combo. A few screen shots will no doubt help you guys answer as I'm baffled as to what specific details to give as each one has various settings on inspection, and I don't really feel like writing it all down manually then posting specs for each one

  I already have Visual Studio 2008 installed. When installing developer Sql Server 2008, do I need to check the Business Intelligence Development Studio option? I'm guessing not. I assume if I already have VS 2008, the install will just add the relevant Sql Server related project types into VS 2008. EDIT: I marked the question answered before I did the install - I've installed Sql Server before and I thought this was what happened, but on doing this install, leaving the BI studio option unchecked does NOT install the SQL Server projects in Visual Studio. I had to go back and install it, so the answer is... Check it! I was overthinking the install - it's smart enough not to install VS twice.

• DWM and painting unresponsive apps

  In Vista and later, if an app becomes unresponsive, the Desktop Window Manager is able to handle redrawing it when necessary (move a window over it, drag it around, etc.) because it has kept a pixel buffer for it. Windows also tries to detect when an app has become unresponsive after some timeout, and tries to make the best of the situation -- I believe it dims out the window, adds "Not Responding" to its title bar, and perhaps some other effects. Now, we have a skinned app that uses window regions and layered windows, and it doesn't play well with these effects. We've been developing on XP, but have noticed a strange effect when testing on Vista. At some points the app may spend a few moments on some calculation or callback, and if it passes the unresponsive threshold (I've read that it's a five second timeout, but I cannot find a link), a strange graphical problem occurs: any pixels that would be 100% transparent due to the window regions turn black, which effectively makes the window rectangular again, with a black background. There seem to be other anomalies, with the original window's pixels being shifted a bit in some child dialogs. I am working on reducing such delays (ideally Windows will never need to step in like this), and trying to maintain responsiveness while it's busy, but I'd still like to figure out what is causing it to render like that, as I can't guarantee I can eliminate all delays. Basically, I just would like to know what Windows is doing when this happens, and how I can make my app behave properly with it. Skinned apps have to still work on Vista and later, so I need to figure out what I'm doing that's non-standard. I don't even know exactly how to look for information into how Windows now handles unresponsive apps, as my searches only return people having issues with apps that are unresponsive, or very rudimentary explanations of what the DWM does with such apps. Heck I'm not even 100% sure it's the DWM responsible, but it seems likely. Any potential leads? • Google's Oauth for Installed apps vs. Oauth for Web Apps

  So I'm having trouble understanding something... If you do Oauth for Web Apps, you register your site with a callback URL and get a unique consumer secret key. But once you've obtained an Oauth for Web Apps token, you don't have to generate Oauth calls to the google server from your registered domain. I regularly use my key and token from scripts running via an apache server at localhost on my laptop and Google never says "you're not sending this request from the registered domain." It just sends me the data. Now, as I understand it, if you do Oauth for Installed Apps, you use "anonymous" instead of a secret key you got from Google. I've been thinking of just using the OAuth for Web Apps auth method, then passing that token to an installed app that has my secret code embedded in its innards. The worry is that the code could be discovered by bad people. But what's more secure... making them work for the secret code or letting them default to anonymous? What really goes bad if the "secret" is discovered when the alternative is using "anonymous" as the secret?

  Question: What is the way to determine, ahead of time and without doing a full install of 64-bit Debian Testing NETINST, when Debian Testing has 32-bit libraries available and fully working and installable so that the following command works without broken package errors?: apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk The errors that occur when 32-bit libraries are not available, still in some broken state, or whatever is broken are detailed below. I already have concluded that "Just install Stable" is my stop-gap measure for now, but I would like to know the answer to the above question so as to avoid a lengthy installation process only to run into these problems at the very end. Details: I downloaded the 64-bit Debian Testing netinst a couple of days ago. This was "Jessie" built 20131014-06:07 via http://tinyurl.com/lejpa. This is weekly testing build. Yes, I know I should expect problems, and I did. I managed to get it completely installed and was able to invoke into GNOME, but not get past the 32-bit library problem. The problems starts when I attempt to install the 32-bit libraries via: apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk that returns: root@breath:~# apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: ia32-libs : Depends: ia32-libs-i386 but it is not installable ia32-libs-gtk : Depends: ia32-libs-i386 but it is not installable Depends: ia32-libs-gtk-i386 but it is not installable E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I then found an old (2012 is old to me) answer at ia32-libs : Depends: ia32-libs-i386 but it is not installable and even tried what they suggested there which was dpkg --add-architecture i386 apt-get update After executing the above, I tried again but got: root@breath:~# apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. • Installing gcc on AIX 5.3

  we have a development AIX 5.3 on PowerPC CPU having the standard CC compiler. I downloaded the gcc 4.2.4, unpacked it and tried to install it seems there is something missing; untar takes around 15 minutes and ends with an error trying to create a directory starting with @ sign. and in the gcc folder itself, I can't find a configure or a Makefile to install any hint on how to do so?

  Getting the following error when attempting to install: Error attempting to create the destination file: C:\Windows Embedded Data\Repositories\{25C88912-9870-4686-97CE-8244C A1B0DAB}.CAB. System error code: 5 Code 5 looks to be an "Access denied" issue. Not sure if this is a generic Windows error, or specific to this install. Any insight is appreciated! -Tim
