    My dissertation is about developing a tool for testing mobile applications from the GUI. Primary device is Android, but it should support Blackberry or iOs etc. I found some frameworks using Google, e.g MonkeyTalk. I am not so sure, but what I want to develop might be a mini MonkeyTalk, with minimal functionality, focused on the GUI of the application(s) to be tested. My questions: What framework(s)? I am good with Java. Can I use the xUnit family for this, and how? What should I be reading/studying? Any suggestions, links for tutorials, documentations, howtos, etc., would be very helpful.   • How exactly does app ranking work?

    So I've been in the app industry for around half a year and I still don't know how exactly ranking higher for your app will help increase downloads. That sounds like a question with an obvious answer but this is what's going through my mind so hear me out: Unless your app is ranked within the top 100, no one can see it in the featured categories. So even if my app jumped from 400th to 300th place, would there really even be a difference in downloads? And I'm saying 400th to 300th in ranking in my specific category. Indie developers like me don't even come close to ranking for the overall category. So far, the only usefulness of trying to get a higher rank is to get featured or something like that, but big companies have tons of money to throw on marketing...so the chances of any indie developer getting featured is rare. The only thing that I can see ranking being good for is to rank for your keywords so that when someone searches for that word, your app will hopefully appear in the top 10-25 results. Can anyone confirm my thoughts or add anything else that I might have missed out on? How exactly do users find your app if you're not in the top 100 app in your category?

  • UI font has rendering glitches in GNOME Shell

    I don't really know how to describe this problem in English. A picture can say more words - look at the tabs at the top of the linked image. The current font settings are shown as well. I don't know what basic info I should provide so if something missing, please tell me. Ubuntu 12.04 GNOME Shell 3.4.1 I know, a reboot can make everything normal but I'm looking for a more permanent solution that can fix this problem (or bug).   • Recommended display/background brightness ratio and UI color schemes [duplicate]

    This question already has an answer here: Colour scheme for editor - guidelines or medical reccomendations 3 answers I'm a professional programmer, which means I spend a lot of time staring at various displays. Recently I've been having some problems with my eyes, so I went to talk to several doctors, which all gave me different recommendations as to how bright the background of the room should be in comparison to the display's brightness. It was very confusing, as some of them even agreed with counter-arguments of others, which made it all even less clear. So I'd like to ask the professional programmers, as people who actually have some experience with that. Some of the doctors said that looking at a monitor is like looking at a book, so the brightness ratios should be approximately the same. Others said that background should be as bright as the display itself, because then there is no brightness difference at the edges, and that's what may cause eye fatigue. From my own experience, I can say that reading a book isn't the same as writing or debugging a program, where you have to pay close attention to each symbol, and in books most words are easily recognizable without focusing too hard on them. Also, books are black on white and I myself use the default (dark text, white bg) color scheme for my IDE, but I've seen some programmers use mid-bright text on very dark background color schemes. So I'd like to ask what are the recommended display/background brightness ratios for programming? I'm not sure this site is the right one for this kind of questions, so if you know a better one, please comment.

    This isn't a language-specific thing as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering what may be a quick way to change the COLOR of a certain on-screen element such as a button and its associated text. I would assume there is a trick to making a graphics engine so maybe individuals pixels or groups of sprites can have their colors easily shifted. A lot of game interface buttons and such have this so you know when an event like a click has occurred. Any pseudo code would be helpful and I am working in Android (not XML fluff), but again, this probably is not a very specific question, just an inquiry on how to go about this.

  • Keeping application backend and UI synchronised

    Hi all. I have an app that works with a list of objects so has one central keyed list. The main window has a tree containing these object with some information, which is easy enough to populate as a one off event after loading. Now, the complicated part, any part of the application can add, remove, and more importantly change the details of those objects at any time (all in the same process) and I'd like the tree to update to suit. I have a few options including passing events back down from the object to the list to the form which seems to be the most flexible way. I can also do it lazily and repopulate the tree each time or periodically (very hackish). Does anyone have any better thoughts on how to structure this? This is being done in C# 2.0 but the concepts apply to any environment. Thanks

When I started eclipse, added the plugin to the panel using Window-Show View-Other...     I have an iPad app where I have a view controller that is the UIGestureRecognizerDelegate for a number of UIGestureRecognizers. NO : YES; } // if (touch.tapCount == 2) } // if ([gestureRecognizer isKindOfClass:[UITapGestureRecognizer class]] == YES) // All gestures are ignored unless they happen on the fullscreen EAGLView if ([touch.view isKindOfClass:[EAGLView class]] == NO) { return NO; } // if ([touch.view isKindOfClass:[EAGLView class]] == NO) return YES; } My setup is a fullscreen EAGLView with a UIToolbar atop the EAGLView. There is a UIBarButtonItem on the toolbar. The idea here is that double-tapping anywhere toggles the appearance of the toolbar. All other gestures must occur on the EAGLView. My problem is that taps directly on the UIBarButtonItem show touch.view to be the UIView subclass UIToolbarTextButton which is undocumented and can't be introspected. Huh?
