  • Local Small Businesses Are in Need of Your SEO Skills

Local Small Businesses are in need of your skills to get a web presence that is ranked highly in search engines. What if I told you that you could make significant, even full-time income in one of the biggest online markets, and I told you that this big market is least competitive too. You don't even need to have your own product or your own mailing list for this to work. Here is one of the most important parts, you don't need to sell these products to make profit either, and no this is not affiliate marketing.

  • How to give life to my idea which belong to my company?

    - by pmod
I wonder, what options do I have in the following situation. In the course of the several projects I realised the need in some auxilary software product (related to testing of the main products). I applied a creative approach to the matter and implemented a system which I think has a potential and looking promising (maybe not on the market but at least among some interested supporters). I have even more ideas related to this system and continue developing at my free and work time. It has become a work and hobby at the same time. Unfortunately, this work basically has nothing in common with the company's business and there is no way this will be organized in a form of standard development process and be presented to costumers as a product. What can you suggest in this situation? How to avoid breaching of contract? Have you had something similar in your career? What if my intention is to develop it as an open source project?

  • Is the Apple iPad for you now or should you wait until the iPhone 4 is released?

The iPad came to the market last Saturday and as always with the Apple marketing came the big lines and small tents that never seen a camp site but the Apple stores. There are the people that want one right away and want to be the first person to own the new shiny device from Apple and there are the people that are willing to wait a month for the device with 3G instead of just WiFi only. The iPad is an interesting concept, a bigger iTouch that can be used as a replacement for your Netbook, Kindle,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Google Chrome Add-on Naming

    - by Valentina Tatya
Can add-ons have registered names in Google Chrome add-ons? I created a Youtube add-on and would like to add the Youtube term in my add-on name to better gain attention from users. I want to use it in the purpose of "fair use". Mozilla Add-ons are loose in restrictions about names but I see that there are not many add-ons containing Youtube or Facebook inside Chrome Market. Does that mean Chrome editors do not allow Registered terms inside the add-on names and should this be avoided?

  • why was tannenbaum wrong?

    - by Robz
I was recently assigned reading from the Tannenbaum-Torvalds debates in my OS class. In the debates, Tannenbaum makes several predictions: Microkernels are the future x86 will die out and RISC architectures will dominate the market (5 years from then) everyone will be running a free GNU OS I was a 1 year old when the debates happened, so I lack historical intuition. Why have these not panned out? It seems to me that from Tannenbaum's perspective, they're pretty reasonable predictions of the future. What happened so that they didn't come to pass?

  • Diminishing Returns - When is it Time to Take Your Website Live?

Being a perfectionist is not always the best way to be. Especially in a world where being first to market isn't the worst thing ever. Like many things in life, deciding when to take your new website live is a fine balancing act. The sooner you can start building up a readership or client base, the better; but you risk serious damage to your site's reputation if its functional and technical performance is below par. So when is the right time?

  • What should I do with my programming project?

    - by rambodash
I've been working on a top secret project that has potential of becoming very popular. No one has done anything like it. The problem is I have no motivation to finish it, and its about 70% done. I also don't have the ability to sell & market the product. The documentation is a pain to write. I just want to finish the project , receive my reward and move on to other things. I know that if I were to release it as a product I'm going to have to do support, and do bug fixes. No thank you! I've thought of making it open source but I'm failing to see the benefits. My hard work is just going to be up for grabs isn't it? How can I abandon my project whilst getting rewarded for the work I've done so far?

  • Windows Azure Active Directory: Should You Use It?

Computerworld offers a full review of the developer preview version of WAAD. Jonathan Hassell, the review's author, effectively gave the service a grade of incomplete. While you can't expect something that's effectively a beta to include everything that will be in the final version, WAAD presented a number of annoying problems that definitely need fixing before it can attract a wide share of the market. First, you can't even try out the service unless you sign up for a trial of Office 365, Microsoft's cloud Office suite. The software giant does plan to let you bring up an instance of WAAD as...

  • Selling Your Website - How the Experts Do It

When selling your website you need to watch out for a couple of things. Firstly, you need to make sure that you don't get conned and end up giving your site away for free. This usually happens when you agree to transfer your domain information over to the 'buyer' before they've paid you. Secondly, you want to get the most money that you can for your site. The unwritten rule of the market is that you usually sell your site for around ten times what it makes in a month.

  • [Android] Is there a way to make ellipsize="marquee" always scroll?

    - by Matthias
I want to use the marquee effect on a TextView, but the text is only being scrolled when the TextView gets focus. That's a problem, because in my case, it can't. I am using: android:ellipsize="marquee" android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever" Is there a way to have the TextView always scroll its text? I've seen this being done in the Android Market app, where the app name will scroll in the title bar, even if it doesn't receive focus, but I couldn't find this being mentioned in the API docs.

  • How to Enable ActiveX in Chrome?

    - by Jeremiah Morrill
I read that early builds of Chrome supported ActiveX, but was later restricted to certain MIME types (for support for say Windows Media Player). I then read Google was going to enable ActiveX strictly for the Korean market. How do I (re)enable this in Chrome? Our web based product relies on ActiveX controls from 3rd parties to play custom video. This limits us to IE. We'd love to support Chrome also, but find it impossible w/o ActiveX support.

  • Small ProgressDialog "spinner" for android

    - by user141146
Hi, I've been able to use the standard "ProgressDialog" for android to show that an indeterminate task is running But I'd like to use the "smaller" progress dialog "spinner" that's used for indeterminate tasks in some of the standard Android applications like the android Market (there's a small spinning circle that's actually integrated into the application window (as opposed to floating on top of it). Does anyone know how to create the smaller progress dialog (or can someone point me in the right direction)? Thanks!

But when I search around the web, I find the syntax highlighting can be done only through use of an awt class. How could I syntax highlight in maybe a custom EditText or TextView view? I know that the release of a syntax highlighter is sort of anticipated, so I want to add my syntax highlighter on the market.

  • To HTML 5 or not HTML 5 ?

    - by ZX12R
I am a designer whose main marketing strategy is multi browser compatibility. I assure my clients that the site will work even in IE6 (!). Of late i have been pondering over the question of moving to HTML 5. The reason behind my apprehension is that IE6 is still a major player in terms of market share and i don't want to lose it. Is there any way of moving to HTML 5 and still promise multi browser compatibility? Thank you.
