StreamInsight 2.1 Released

The wait is over—we are pleased to announce the release of StreamInsight 2.1. Since the release of version 1.2, we have heard your feedbacks and suggestions and based on that we have come up with a whole new set of features. Here are some of the highlights: A New Programming Model – A more clear and consistent object model, eliminating the need for complex input and output adapters (though they are still completely supported). This new model allows you to provision, name, and manage data sources and sinks in the StreamInsight server. Tight integration with Reactive Framework (Rx) – You can write reactive queries hosted inside StreamInsight as well as compose temporal queries on reactive objects. High Availability – Check-pointing over temporal streams and multiple processes with shared computation. WPF TreeView MouseDown

I've got something like this in a TreeView: <DataTemplate x:Key="myTemplate"> <StackPanel MouseDown="OnItemMouseDown"> ... </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> Using this I get the mouse down events if I click on items in the stack panel. However... there seems to be another item behind the stack panel that is the TreeViewItem - it's very hard to hit, but not impossible, and that's when the problems start to occur. I had a go at handling PreviewMouseDown on TreeViewItem, however that seems to require e.Handled = false otherwise standard tree view behaviour stops working. Ok, Here's the source code... WCF AuthenticationService in IIS7 Error

I have a WCF Server running on IIS 7 using default application pool, with SSL activate, the services is installed in a SBS Server 2008. I implement client application services with wcf and SQL 2005 for setting the access control in my application. The application run under windows vista and is make with WPF. In my developer machine the application and the WCF services run well, the IIS i'm use for the trials is the local IIS 7 and the database is the SQL Server 2005 database hosting in my server. I'm using Visual Studio Project Designer to enable and configure client application services. using https://localhost/WcfServidorFundacion. When i'm change the authentication services location to https://WcfServices:5659/WcfServidorFundacion and recompile the application, the following error show up. Message: The web service returned the error status code: InternalServerError. Details of service failure: {"Message":" Error while processing your request ","StackTrace":"","ExceptionType":""} Stack Trace: en System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() en System.Web.ClientServices.Providers.ProxyHelper.CreateWebRequestAndGetResponse(String serverUri, CookieContainer& cookies, String username, String connectionString, String connectionStringProvider, String[] paramNames, Object[] paramValues, Type returnType) InnerException: System.Net.WebException Message="Remote Server Error: (500) Interal Server Error." I can access the WCF service from the navigator using the url mentioned above and even make a webReference in my project. I make a capture of the response but I'cant post it because i don't have 10 reputation points I activate the error log in the IIS 7 server, and the result is a Warning in the ManagedPipilineHandler. c# Truncate HTML safely for article summary

Hi All, Does anyone have a c# variation of this? This is so I can take some html and display it without breaking as a summary lead in to an article? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1193500/php-truncate-html-ignoring-tags Save me from reinventing the wheel! Thank you very much ---------- edit ------------------ Sorry, new here, and your right, should have phrased the question better, heres a bit more info I wish to take a html string and truncate it to a set number of words (or even char length) so I can then show the start of it as a summary (which then leads to the main article). I wish to preserve the html so I can show the links etc in preview. The main issue I have to solve is the fact that we may well end up with unclosed html tags if we truncate in the middle of 1 or more tags! The idea I have for solution is to a) truncate the html to N words (words better but chars ok) first (be sure not to stop in the middle of a tag and truncate a require attribute) b) work through the opened html tags in this truncated string (maybe stick them on stack as I go?) c) then work through the closing tags and ensure they match the ones on stack as I pop them off? d) if any open tags left on stack after this, then write them to end of truncated string and html should be good to go!!!! -- edit 12112009 Here is what I have bumbled together so far as a unittest file in VS2008, this 'may' help someone in future My hack attempts based on Jan code are at top for char version + word version (DISCLAIMER: this is dirty rough code!! on my part) I assume working with 'well-formed' HTML in all cases (but not necessarily a full document with a root node as per XML version) Abels XML version is at bottom, but not yet got round to fully getting tests to run on this yet (plus need to understand the code) ... Strange WPF ListBox Behavior

I’m trying to bind a List of items to a listbox in WPF. The items are grouped by one value and each group is to be housed in an expander. Everything works fine when I don’t use any custom styles. However, when I use custom styles (which work properly with non-grouped items and as independent controls) the binding doesn’t display any items. Below is the code I’m executing. Any ideas why the items won’t show up in the Expander? Windows 7 laptop with two active network connections will not perform DNS AAAA lookup under certain conditions

My laptop has two network interfaces. The Ethernet interface connects directly to my provider's edge router. It obtains an IPv6 address via SLAAC. I manually set an IPv6 DNS server. The wireless interface connects to a CPE router that doesn't understand IPv6. If the wireless interface is disabled, I can reach the IPv6 Internet with no problems using the Ethernet interface. I run into problems when both interfaces are enabled and the wireless interface get its IPv4 DNS server via DHCP. Let's look at two scenarios. Wireless interface obtains IPv4 DNS server via DHCP - The CPE router (192.168.0.1) sends its address as the DNS server. In this scenario, Windows 7 will not perform AAAA lookups. The browser uses IPv4 transit to reach dual stack web sites. I can't reach IPv6-only web sites using domain names. I can reach IPv6-enabled web sites using IPv6 literals instead of the domain name. Wireless interface is manually configured with OpenDNS DNS server - Windows 7 performs AAAA lookups using IPv6 transit (via the Ethernet). Everything works fine. My dual homed set-up is definitely not standard. Still, the behavior is very strange to me. A valid IPv6 interface exists in my Ethernet interface. Why won't Windows attempt AAAA lookups in scenario #1? I've included the output of ipconfig /all and netstat -rn. WPF ToggleButton changing image depending on state

I would like to use ToggleButton in following way: There are 5 different images and each of them should be displayed depending on current state: button disabled button enabled, unchecked button enabled, unchecked, pointed by mouse cursor button enabled, checked button enabled, checked, pointed by mouse cursor I've found a simple example with two images on http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/28c36bd2-2ef7-4232-9976-2a0967140e32 , but how to change the image depending on "checked" property? The second question: how can I avoid creating different styles for each button in my application? I'm using about 20 different buttons and each of them has different set of icons. So far I'm using only one icon, below my code. Unable to set maxReceivedMessageSize through web.config

Hello there, I have now investigated the 400 - BadRequest code for the last two hours. A lot of sugestions goes towards ensuring the bindingConfiguration attribute is set correctly, and in my case, it is. Now, I need YOUR help before destroying the building i am in :-) I run a WCF RestFull service (very lightweight, using this resource for inspiration: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd315413.aspx) which (for now) accepts an XmlElement (POX) provided through the POST verb. I am currently ONLY using Fiddler's request builder before implementing a true client (as this is mixed environments). When I do this for XML smaller than 65K, it works fine - larger, it throws this exception: The maximum message size quota for incoming messages (65536) has been exceeded. To increase the quota, use the MaxReceivedMessageSize property on the appropriate binding element. WCF: Using Streaming and Username/Password authentication at the same time

Hi, I have a WCF Service with the following requirements: a) The client requests a file from the server which is transferred as a Stream. Files may be 100MB or larger. I need streaming or chucking or whatever to make sure that IIS is not loading the whole package into memory before starting to send it. b) The client will transfer an ID to identify the file to be downloaded. The user should be authenticated by providing username/password. c) While the username/password part of the communication needs to be encrypted, encryption of the downloaded file is optional for our use case. Troubleshooting .NET "Fatal Execution Engine Error"

Summary: I periodically get a .NET Fatal Execution Engine Error on an application which I cannot seem to debug. The dialog that comes up only offers to close the program or send information about the error to Microsoft. I've tried looking at the more detailed information but I don't know how to make use of it. Error: The error is visible in Event Viewer under Applications and is as follows: .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3607 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A09795E) (80131506) The computer running it is Windows XP Professional SP 3. (Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz w/ 2.0 GB of RAM) Other .NET-based projects that lack multi-threaded downloading (see below) seem to run just fine. Application: The application is written in C#/.NET 3.5 using VS2008, and installed via a setup project. The app is multi-threaded and downloads data from multiple web servers using System.Net.HttpWebRequest and its methods. I've determined that the .NET error has something to do with either threading or HttpWebRequest but I haven't been able to get any closer as this particular error seems impossible to debug. I've tried handling errors on many levels, including the following in Program.cs: // handle UI thread exceptions Application.ThreadException += new ThreadExceptionEventHandler(Application_ThreadException); // handle non-UI thread exceptions AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException); Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); // force all windows forms errors to go through our handler Application.SetUnhandledExceptionMode(UnhandledExceptionMode.CatchException); More Notes and What I've Tried... Installed Visual Studio 2008 on the target machine and tried running in debug mode, but the error still occurs, with no hint as to where in source code it occurred. When running the program from its installed version (Release) the error occurs more frequently, usually within minutes of launching the application. When running the program in debug mode inside of VS2008, it can run for hours or days before generating the error. Reinstalled .NET 3.5 and made sure all updates are applied. Broke random cubicle objects in frustration. Rewritten parts of code that deal with threading and downloading in attempts to catch and log exceptions, though logging seemed to aggravate the problem (and never provided any data). Question: What steps can I take to troubleshoot or debug this kind of error? Memory dumps and the like seem to be the next step, but I'm not experienced at interpreting them. Perhaps there's something more I can do in the code to try and catch errors... It would be nice if the "Fatal Execution Engine Error" was more informative, but internet searches have only told me that it's a common error for a lot of .NET-related items.

Binding WPF DataGrid to DataTable using TemplateColumns

I have tried everything and got nowhere so I'm hoping someone can give me the aha moment. I simply cannot get the binding to pull the data in the datagrid successfully. I have a DataTable that contains multiple columns with of MyDataType} public class MyData { string nameData {get;set;} boolean showData {get;set;} } MyDataType has 2 properties (A string, a boolean) I have created a test DataTable DataTable GetDummyData() { DataTable dt = new DataTable("Foo"); dt.Columns.Add(new DataColumn("AnotherColumn", typeof(MyData))); dt.Rows.Add(new MyData("Row1C1", true)); dt.Rows.Add(new MyData("Row2C1", false)); dt.AcceptChanges(); return dt; } I have a WPF DataGrid which I want to show my DataTable. But all I want to do is to change how each cell is rendered to show [TextBlock][Button] per cell with values bound to the MyData object and this is where I'm having a tonne of trouble. Nhibernate 2.1 and mysql 5 - InvalidCastException on Setup

However, when setting up the connection and creating the SessionFactoryObject, I get this InvalidCastException: NHibernate seems to cast MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection to System.Data.Common.DbConnection which causes the exception. Using DefaultCredentials and DefaultNetworkCredentials

Hi, We're having a hard time figuring how these credentials objects work. In fact, they may not work how we expected them to work. Here's an explanation of the current issue. We got 2 servers that needs to talk with each other through webservices. The first one (let's call it Server01) has a Windows Service running as the NetworkService account. The other one (Server02) has ReportingServices running with IIS 6.0. The Windows Service on Server01 is trying to use the Server02's ReportingServices' WebService to generate reports and send them by email. So, here's what we tried so far. Setting the credentials at runtime (This works perfectly fine): rs.Credentials = new NetworkCredentials("user", "pass", "domain"); Now, if we could use a generic user all would be fine, however... we are not allowed to. So, we are trying to use the DefaultCredetials or DefaultNetworkCredentials and pass it to the RS Webservice: `rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials OR `rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials Either way won't work. We're always getting 401 Unauthrorized from IIS. Now, what we know is that if we want to give access to a resource logged as NetworkService, we need to grant it to "DOMAIN\MachineName$" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998320.aspx): Granting Access to a Remote SQL Server If you are accessing a database on another server in the same domain (or in a trusted domain), the Network Service account's network credentials are used to authenticate to the database. The Network Service account's credentials are of the form DomainName\AspNetServer$, where DomainName is the domain of the ASP.NET server and AspNetServer is your Web server name. For example, if your ASP.NET application runs on a server named SVR1 in the domain CONTOSO, the SQL Server sees a database access request from CONTOSO\SVR1$. We assumed that granting access the same way with IIS would work. However, it does not. Or at least, something is not set properly for it to authenticate correctly. So, here are some questions: We've read about "Impersonating Users" somewhere, do we need to set this somewhere in the Windows Service ? Is it possible to grant access to the NetworkService built-in account to a remote IIS server ? Thanks for reading!

MVC 2 View Layout CSS Control Layout

I'm new to a lot of what I'm trying to do with the development of a new MVC2 web application so this is a beginner question. I need to understand my options for control and content layout on a web page. I’m using MVC2 so I’m using Controllers, Views, ViewModels, and View Templates. What I need to spin up on…fast…is control the granular layout of controls and content on any particular view. Below I’ve pasted two examples of auto generated templates that illustrate my challenge. I see that layout is controlled by CSS in my Site.css document. In the first example I get a sequential flow of DisplayLabel and DisplayField. I prefer the adjacent layout of DisplayLabel on the same line as DisplayField produced from example 2. However, example 2 is too simple because the formatting is applied to the Label and the Field. I think the correct way to tackle this learning curve is Microsoft Expression but I don’t have personal bandwidth at the moment to tackle Expression. Can anyone point me to a resource that will expose me to lots of examples for CSS formatting? I have lots of syntax questions. For instance, I believe is referencing the Site.css but I can’t find a "display-label" section in Site.css. <msbuild/> task fails while <devenv/> succeeds for MFC application in CruiseControl.NET?

The Overview I am working on a Continuous Integration build of a MFC appliction via CruiseControl.net and VS2010. When building my .sln, a "Visual Studio" CCNet task (<devenv/>) works, but a simple MSBuild wrapper script (see below) run via the CCNet <msbuild/> task fails with errors like: error RC1015: cannot open include file 'winres.h'.. error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afxwin.h': No such file or directory error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afx.h': No such file or directory The Question How can I adjust the build environment of my msbuild wrapper so that the application builds correctly? (Pretty clearly the MFC paths aren't right for the msbuild environment, but how do i fix it for MSBuild+VS2010+MFC+CCNet?) Background Details We have successfully upgraded an MFC application (.exe with some MFC extension .dlls) to Visual Studio 2010 and can compile the application without issue on developer machines. Now I am working on compiling the application on the CI server environment I did a full installation of VS2010 (Professional) on the build server. In this way, I knew everything I needed would be on the machine (one way or another) and that this would be consistent with developer machines. VS2010 is correctly installed on the CI server, and the devenv task works as expected I now have a wrapper MSBuild script that does some extended version processing and then builds the .sln for the application via an MSBuild task. This wrapper script is run via CCNet's MSBuild task and fails with the above mentioned errors The Simple MSBuild Wrapper <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Project ToolsVersion="4.0" DefaultTargets="Build" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003"> <Target Name="Build">  <MSBuild Projects="target.sln" Properties="Configuration=ReleaseUnicode;Platform=Any CPU;..." /> </Target> </Project> My Assumptions This seems to be a missing/wrong configuration of include paths to standard header resources of the MFC persuasion I should be able to coerce the MSBuild environment to consider the relevant resource files from my VS2010 install and have this approach work. Given the vs2010 msbuild support for visual c++ projects (.vcxproj), shouldn't msbuilding a solution be pretty close to compiling via visual studio? But how do I do that? Am I setting Environment variables? Registry settings? I can see how one can inject additional directories in some cases, but this seems to need a more systemic configuration at the compiler defaults level. Update 1 This appears to only ever happen in two cases: resource compilation (rc.exe), and precompiled header (stdafx.h) compilation, and only for certain projects? I was thinking it was across the board, but indeed it appears only to be in these cases. I guess I will keep digging and hope someone has some insight they would be willing to share...

Drawing a TextBox in an extended Glass Frame (C# w/o WPF)

I am trying to draw a TextBox on the extended glass frame of my form. I won't describe this technique, it's well-known. Here's an example for those who haven't heard of it: http://www.danielmoth.com/Blog/Vista-Glass-In-C.aspx The thing is, it is complex to draw over this glass frame. Since black is considered to be the 0-alpha color, anything black disappears. There are apparently ways of countering this problem: drawing complex GDI+ shapes are not affected by this alpha-ness. If anyone has good, valid and working examples, and thinks this could be a good overall solution, please tell me. Using BufferedPaintSetAlpha. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms649805.aspx). The downsides of this method may be that the corners of the textbox might look odd, but I can live with that. If anyone knows how to implement that method properly from a Graphics object, please tell me. I personally don't, but this seems the best solution so far. Thanks!

I have a windows service which exposes an endpoint over http. Again this is a windows service (not a web service hosted in iis). I then call methods from this endpoint, using javascript/ajax. So, as a test, I changed the port I was calling in the javascript to some other random port, and I get the same error - which tells me that I'm obviously not even reaching my service over https. I'm at a complete loss at this point, I feel like everything is in place, and I just can't see what the problem is. Why does Sharepoint 2010 Web Reference work, but Service Reference does not

Sharepoint is setup to use NTLM authentication. When I reference http://myserver/Sites/Ops/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx?WSDL as a Web Reference, I can call the methods and get valid responses. When I reference the same url as a Service Reference, the server throws an exception when calling methods. My account is admin on the Sharepoint Farm. MSBuild: Add additional files to compile without altering the project file

After looking around I can't find a simple answer to this problem. I am trying to create an MSBuild file to allow me to easily use SpecFlow and NUnit within Visual Studio 2010 express. I know I could modify (either directly or on a copy) the .csproj file to include the generated file but I'd prefer to avoid this. My question is: Is there a way to use the MSBuild Task to build the project file and tell it to include an additional file to include in the build? Thank you.

ADO.NET Data Services Entity Framework request error when property setter is internal

I receive an error message when exposing an ADO.NET Data Service using an Entity Framework data model that contains an entity (called "Case") with an internal setter on a property. If I modify the setter to be public (using the entity designer), the data services works fine. I don’t need the entity "Case" exposed in the data service, so I tried to limit which entities are exposed using SetEntitySetAccessRule. This didn’t work, and service end point fails with the same error. public static void InitializeService(IDataServiceConfiguration config) { config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("User", EntitySetRights.AllRead); } The error message is reported in a browser when the .svc endpoint is called. It is very generic, and reads “Request Error. The server encountered an error processing the request. See server logs for more details.” Unfortunately, there are no entries in the System and Application event logs. I found this stackoverflow question that shows how to configure tracing on the service. After doing so, the following NullReferenceExceptoin error was reported in the trace log. Does anyone know how to avoid this exception when including an entity with an internal setter? Howto - Running Redmine on mongrel as a service on windows

I use Redmine on Mongrel as a project manager and I use a batch file (start-redmine.bat) to start the redmine in mongrel. There are 2 issues with my setup: 1. I have a running IIS on the server that occupies the HTTP port (80) 2. The start-redmine.bat must be periodically checked to see if it's stopped after a restart that is caused by windows update service. for the first issue, I have no choice but running mongrel on a port like 3000 and for the second issue I have to create a windows service that runs automatically in the background when the windows starts; and here comes the trouble! There are at least 3 ways to run redmine as a service that I'm aware of; none of them can satisfy a performance view on this subject. you may read about them on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/877943/how-to-configure-a-rails-app-redmine-to-run-as-a-service-on-windows I tried them all. The easiest way to setup such a service is using mongrel_service approach; in 3 lines of command you're done. but the performance is significantly lower than running that batch file... Now, I wanna show you my approach: First suppose we have ruby installed into c:\ruby and we have issued the command gem install mongrel to get the mongrel gem installed into c:\ruby\bin Also, suppose we have installed the Redmine into a folder like c:\redmine; and we have ruby's path (i.e. c:\ruby\bin) in our PATH environment variable. Now Download and install the Windows NT Resource Kit Tools from microsoft website. Open the command-line tool that comes with the Resource Kit (from start menu). Use instsrv to install a dummy service called Redmine using the following command: "[path-to-instsrv.exe]\instsrv" Redmine "[path-to-srvany.exe]\srvany.exe" in my case (which is the default case) it was something like this: "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\instsrv" Redmine "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\srvany.exe" Now create the batch file. Open a notepad and paste these instructions into it and then save it as "c:\redmine\start-redmine.bat" @echo off cd c:\redmine\ mongrel_rails start -a 0.0.0.0 -p 3000 -e production Now we need to configure that dummy service we had created before. WATCH OUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING FROM HERE ON, OR YOU MAY CORRUPT YOUR WINDOWS. To configure that service, open windows registry editor (Start - Run - regedit) and navigate to this node: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Redmine Right-Click on "Redmine" node and using the context menu, create a new key called Parameters (New - Key) Right-Click on "Parameters" and create a String Value property called Application. Do this again and create another String Value called AppParameters. Now Double-click on "Application" and put cmd.exe into "Value data" section. Then Double-click on "AppParameters" and put /C "C:\redmine\start-redmine.bat" into Value data section. We're done! issue this command to run the redmine on mongrel as a service: net start Redmine
