• How to solve validation error on xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation in jdoconfig.xml

  Since I updated today to GAE 1.7.2.1, I'm having validation errors in eclipse in all my jdoconfig.xml files. I have the default jdoconfig.xml content : [...] <jdoconfig xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jdo/jdoconfig" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jdo/jdoconfig"> [...] And eclipse validation throws: Referenced file contains errors (http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jdo/jdoconfig). For more information, right click on the message in the Problems View and select "Show Details..." When clicking on details I can see a bunch of lines like: s4s-elt-character: Non-whitespace characters are not allowed in schema elements other than 'xs:appinfo' and 'xs:documentation'. Saw 'var_U = "undefined";'. In different lines and different content in "Saw ... " It occurs in every single project I start using the "New Web Application Project..." from the google plugin. So does anyone have this problem? Any fix?

• Android ScrollView Not Scrolling Correctly

  I've been making my way through thenewboston's android tutorials and I'm stuck on number 35. There is supposed to be a scroll bar that takes up a weight of 30 at the top of the app. There are 6 textview/edittext field groups in the code, but I deleted 5 for simplicity. My problem is that all of the text and text boxes appear on the page and are not confined to the given weight (they all just show up on the page). Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Please, I'm new to stackoverflow. If you think this is a stupid question, please explain to me why and how I can ask it better. • How to control the download url for dotNetFx35setup.exe without using the Visual Studio bootstrapper

  Previously I've used to Visual Studio 2008 setup.bin to generate a bootstrapper. I had some issues with it which were difficult to resolve and turned to dotNetInstaller. One great thing with the VS 2008 generated bootstrapper, was that I was able to control the download location for the .NET framework. By using the MSBuild task I could specify the componentsLocation: <GenerateBootstrapper ApplicationFile="$(TargetFileName)" ApplicationName="MyApp" ApplicationUrl="http://$(InstallerHost)$(DownloadUrl)" BootstrapperItems="@(BootstrapperFile)" CopyComponents="True" ComponentsLocation="Relative" OutputPath="$(OutputPath)" Path="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\" /> Here I'm able to use the ComponentsLocation="Relative" and the bootstrapper would download from our own web server - which is what I want. When I no longer have the VS 2008 bootstrapper, I would like to have the same feature. The new boostrapper downloads the dotNetFx35setup.exe from a defined server, but the problem is that this ".NET bootstrapper" connects to Microsoft's servers for downloading the needed packages. Trying to run the following command: dotNetFx35setup.exe /? did not show any options to control the download location. The web server will contain the package structure which the Windows SDK (v6.0A) has within the Bootstrapper\Packages directory. The structure looks like this: Packages DotNetFX DotNetFX30 DotNetFX35 DotNetFx35Client DotNetFx35SP1 ..... When I state a dependency to the .NET Framework 3.5, the DotNetFX35 directory structure gets copied into the bin/Debug directory. I've copied this directory onto the web server and it looks like this: DotNetFX35 dotNetFX20 dotNetFX30 dotNetFX35 x64 netfx35_x64.exe x86 netfx35_x86.exe dotNetMSP dotNetFx35setup.exe The other directories contains mainly MSI, MSP and MSU files. So any pointers on how to control downloading of the .NET framework. Shouldn't I use the dotNetFx35setup.exe file? If not - which should I use?

• pyqt QTreeWidget setItemWidget dissapears after drag/drop

  I'm trying to keep a widget put into a QTreeWidgetItem after a reparent (drag and drop) using QTreeWidget.setItemWidget() But the result, if you compile the following code - is that the widget inside the QTreeWidgetItem disappears. Any idea why? • Errors with shotgun gem and msvcrt-ruby18.dll when running my Sinatra app

  Greetings, Every time I make a change to a Sinatra app I'm working on and try to refresh the browser (located at http://localhost:4567/) the browser will refresh and, the console window seems to restart the WEB brick server. The problem is that the content in the browser window does not change. A friend of mine told me it was a shotgun issue and referred me to rtomayko's shotgun gem: http://github.com/rtomayko/shotgun On this page I read that the shotgun gem would basically solve my problem, allowing the changes made to my app to show up in the browser window after I refresh it. So I installed the shotgun gem. The installation was successful. To activate the shotgun function you have to type shotgun before the file name. In this case my Sinatra app's file name is shortener.rb When I type shotgun shortener.rb to run my Sinatra app I get this error: C:\ruby\sinatrashotgun shortener.rb c:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/shotgun-0.6/bin/shotgun:137:in `': No such f ile or directory - uname (Errno::ENOENT) from c:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/shotgun-0.6/bin/shotgun:137:in block in ' from c:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/shotgun-0.6/bin/shotgun:136:in each' from c:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/shotgun-0.6/bin/shotgun:136:in find' from c:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/shotgun-0.6/bin/shotgun:136:in <top (required)>' from c:/Ruby19/bin/shotgun:19:inload' from c:/Ruby19/bin/shotgun:19:in `' I should also mention that before testing the shotgun method out to see if it worked, I installed the mongrel (I realize I should have checked to see if shotgun worked before doing this as installing mongrel has complicated this problem). So on top of getting the error message above I also get a pop up window from Ruby.exe saying: Ruby.exe - Unable to load component This application has failed to start because msvcrt-ruby18.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I have no idea what msvcrt-ruby18.dll is but I know that installing either shotgun and/or mongrel created this problem. Where to go from here? • StackOverflow in VB.NET SQLite query

  I have an StackOverflowException in one of my DB functions that I don't know how to deal with. I have a SQLite database with one table "tblEmployees" that holds records for each employees (several thousand posts) and usually this function runs without any problem. But sometimes after the the function is called a thousand times it breaks with an StackOverflowException at the line "ReturnTable.Load(reader)" with the message: An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Data.SQLite.dll If I restart the application it has no problem to continue with the exact same post it last crashed on. I can also make the exactly same DB-call from SQLite Admin at the crash time without no problems. I assume there is some problem with allocated memory that isn't released correctly, but can't figure out what object it's all about. The DB-connection opens when the DB-class object is created and closes on main form Dispose. Should I maybe dispose the mycommand object every time in a finally block? But wouldn't that result in a closed DB-connection?

• MKMapKit custom annotations being added to map, but are not visible on the map

  I learned a lot from the screencast at http://icodeblog.com/2009/12/21/introduction-to-mapkit-in-iphone-os-3-0/ , and ive been trying to incorporate the way he creates a custom annotation into my iphone app. He is hardcoding annotations and adding them individually to the map, whereas i want to add them from my data source. So i have an array of objects with a lat and a lng (ive checked that the values are within range and ought to be appearing on the map) that i iterate through and do [mapView addAnnotation:truck] once this process is completed, i check the number of annotations on the map with [[mapView annotations] count] and its equal to the number it ought to be, so all the annotations are getting added onto the mapView, but for some reason I cant see any annotations in the simulator. I've compared my code with his in all the pertinent places many times, but nothing seems to stand out as being incorrect. Ive also reviewed my code for the last several hours trying to find a point where I do something wrong, but nothing is coming to mind. The images are named just as they are assigned in the custom AnnotationView, the loadAnnotation function is done properly, etc... i dont know what it could be. so i suppose if i could have the answer to one question it would be, what are possible causes for a mapView to contain several annotations, but to not show any on the map? • Returning Meaningful Exceptions from a WCF Project

  I am pretty new to WCF in general. What little experience I have comes from using fairly simple .SVC services in ASP.NET web applications. I tried experimenting with using a WCF Project for the first time, and ran into a major show-stopper. As I’m sure most are aware, for some strange reason, in a web application in which the customErrors mode is set to On , services (both .ASMX and .SVC) will not return exception details to the client. Instead, the exception and stack trace are emptied, and the message always reads “There was an error processing the request”, which is not at all helpful. When services are directly hosted inside the web application itself, it’s easy to work around this restriction by placing the services in a dedicated folder, and setting for that folder. However, I’m running into this same issue with exceptions not being returned from services that live in a separate WCF project. Thing is, I don’t know how to work around that. In a nutshell: I need to get my WCF Project services to bubble REAL exceptions to the client – or at least, the original exception message, instead of “There was an error processing the request”.

• Logging in worker threads spawned from a pylons application does not seem to work

  I have a pylons application where, under certain cirumstances I want to spawn multiple worker threads to process items in a queue. Right now we aren't making use of a ThreadPool (would be ideal, but we'll add that in later). The main problem is that the worker threads logging does not get written to the log files. When I run the code outside of the pylons application the logging works fine. So I think its something to do with the pylons log handler but not sure what. • Error using Dynamic Data Filtering: missing datasource

  I am trying to use the ASP.NET Dynamic Data Filtering project, but I'm running into a problem during the configuration. I'm following the instructions on the author's blog, and everything works like described. Then it tells me to change the datasource using the designer view. I am told to select the "GridDataSource" in the "Configure data source" wizard. This option is not there though. I get all of the classes in my project, including the DataContext that was generated by Linq. When I choose "Show only DataContext objects", the dropdown ("Choose your context object:") is completely empty. When I turn of the checkbox and choose my DataContext class, I get asked which table I want and all that. But, as the whole purpose of a Dynamic Data site is NOT to use one single table, that's not much help. So I've looked at the instructions again and copied the resulting datasource from the example: <asp:DynamicLinqDataSource ID="GridDataSource" runat="server" EnableDelete="True" EnableUpdate="True"></asp:DynamicLinqDataSource> Which is exactly what I had, without the "WhereParameters" nodes in there. Now, when I run the list page however, I get an exception about a missing datasource from the filtering component. Of course when I remove the DynamicFilterRepeater, it works again. • Recommendations on developing a WPF application without using MVVM or similar

  We were building out the next version of an in-house thick-client application using WPF/Prism (Composite Application Library). As we were nearly done with the client our team was put under new management and shortly thereafter: We were then directed to drop the Prism framework to keep things simple. This includes not using any type of Inversion of Control. We were directed to build out the WPF application without using MVVM or similar; and more along the lines of a traditional WinForm application. The idea is that if a developer sees a control in Visual Studio’s designer view, then (s)he should be able to click on the control and see exactly what it's doing without having to traverse through a view-model (or similar). We have now been tasked with building out the WPF application using one primary Window, use a Frame Control to contain the content, and use a Ribbon outside of the frame for the menu items. Reason we were provided to use Frame Control: a. We will show a view in the Frame with a Page (not a user control) and then load the page in the Frame. b. When a new view is to be shown in the Frame, the current view (Page) will be closed/disposed and the new view (Page) will take its place in the Frame. c. When a developer looks at the Page in design view, (s)he will be able to click on any control and see exactly what is being done. Given the restrictions of 1 and 2 above, we’d like to present another method of building out the application that: Can be presented as an alternative to using the “Frame Methodology” (item 3 above) but still provides the same type of functionality. Does not use MVVM (see #1 and #2 above). Provided the direction we’ve been given, any suggestions as to an alternative we can present? I’d request that the responses be kept on the professional level and thank you in advance.

• Twitpic API from iPhone - pic posted but no URL returned?

  This is a weird one... With the help of people here, I've got my iPhone app posting to TwitPic successfully - and when I first got it working, I could see an XML result being returned too... But for some reason over the past two days, the API call seems to succeed - the pic appears on TwitPic - but... the response seems to be empty... Anyone have any ideas? Seen anything similar? • How do I use DomainContext.Load in my ViewModel?

  I'm trying to use RIA services to provide data to my Silverlight application by calling DomainContext.Load to retrieve a collection of widgets. I want to expose this collection through a property of the ViewModel so I can bind a control to the collection in my page. I think my approach must be fundamentally wrong because Load is called asynchronously and is therefore not available when my page loads and the control tried to bind. Can someone please show me the right way to do this? • "Best" language /architecture for browser-based app with ODBC and sockets? (subjective)

  Sorry to ask a subjective question, but I would welcome some advice. I am an experienced programmer of embedded s/w, but haven't done much network programming, although I have done a fair bit of hobbyist PHP. Am I right? Then client is insisting on MSIE - unless I can show compelling technical reasons for FireFox or other then it will have to be MSIE (are there any compelling technical reasons?). So, with MIE (almost) a given, I had though to use PHP, since I know it, but the client seems awfully keen on Java (which ought to be OK since I am conversant with C++) it woudl seem to make sense to use the same language for the "upper" interface between the web pages (which that app generates) and the d/b, and for the "lower" interface between the d/b and the socket. (a single language means a single set of tools since text approach, etc) So, the (probably highly subjective) question is "which language shoudl I choose". As I say, the client is keen on Java. Any compelling reason why not? Is it generally a good choice for the sort of thing described here? Any other hints & tips gratefully appreciated (and up-voted): URLs, books, tool chain suggestions, etc, etc

• LSI 9285-8e and Supermicro SC837E26-RJBOD1 duplicate enclosure ID and slot numbers

  I am working with 2 x Supermicro SC837E26-RJBOD1 chassis connected to a single LSI 9285-8e card in a Supermicro 1U host. There are 28 drives in each chassis for a total of 56 drives in 28 RAID1 mirrors. The problem I am running in to is that there are duplicate slots for the 2 chassis (the slots list twice and only go from 0 to 27). All the drives also show the same enclosure ID (ID 36). However, MegaCLI -encinfo lists the 2 enclosures correctly (ID 36 and ID 65). My question is, why would this happen? Is there an option I am missing to use 2 enclosures effectively? This is blocking me rebuilding a drive that failed in slot 11 since I can only specify enclosure and slot as parameters to replace a drive. When I do this, it picks the wrong slot 11 (device ID 46 instead of device ID 19). Adapter #1 is the LSI 9285-8e, adapter #0 (which I removed due to space limitations) is the onboard LSI. After getting in contact with a very knowledgeable Supermicro tech, they provided us with a tool called Xflash (doesn't appear to be readily available on their FTP). When we gathered some information using this utility, my colleague found something very strange: root@mogile2 test]# ./xflash.dat -i get avail Initializing Interface. You see the 3 connected (we have since added a 3rd and a 4th which is not yet showing up) with their respective SAS address / WWN (50030480:00EE917F). The first 2 enclosures logical ID is partially masked out where the 3rd one (which has a correct unique enclosure ID) is not. We pointed this out to Supermicro and were able to confirm that this address is supposed to be set during manufacturing and there was a problem with a certain batch of these enclosures where the logical ID was not set. We believe that the RAID controller is determining the ID based on the logical ID and since our first 2 enclosures have the same logical ID, they get the same enclosure ID. We also confirmed that 0000007F is the default which comes from LSI as an ID. The next pointer that helps confirm this could be a manufacturing problem with a run of JBODs is the fact that all 6 of the enclosures that have this problem begin with 00E. I believe that between 00E8 and 00EE Supermicro forgot to program the logical IDs correctly and neglected to recall or fix the problem post production. Fortunately for us, there is a tool to manage the WWN and logical ID of the devices from Supermicro: ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/utility/ExpanderXtools_Lite/. Our next step is to schedule a shutdown of these JBODs (after data migration) and reprogram the logical ID and see if it solves the problem.
