• How do I read the cache of Chrome and Firefox programmatically on the Mac?

  Background I want to access the cache of Chrome and Firefox in my Cocoa application. I need to get the HTML for pages accessed recently. Safari is a piece of cake - all this information is available in SQLite data stores, but not so in Chrome and Firefox. The Problem For Firefox, the cache is in /Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/xxx.default/Cache with filenames _CACHE_001_ _CACHE_002_ _CACHE_003_ and _CACHE_MAP_ For Chrome, the cache is in /Library/Caches/Google/Chrome/Default/Cache with filenames data_0 data_1 data_2 and data_3 What I've tried The only article I can find that sheds any light on what format these caches are in is here. It recommends a Cache Viewer tool, but doesn't explain how one might do this programmatically. Questions Is there any way of reconstructing this data using command line tools or the Cocoa framework? Or is it much too low level? Is there another way of getting at the HTML of recent web pages that I don't know about?

  I'm trying to use <canvas> in iPhone Safari, and if I place the element in the body, there are unused pixels to the left and top of the element. I tried specifying margin:0;padding:0 with CSS to no avail. • SQL Server T-SQL statement to replace/delete sub-strings

  Hi, I have a table with 6 columns containing HTML content with some markups in it and now when moving to a new designed site most of this HTML code has to be deleted. More or less all tags except <B> and </B>. Is there a nice way of doing this, identify all tags end delete them within the data? I'm sure there are no < symbols in the test so a regular expression would maybe work? My alternative is to fetch every row, process it and update the database but I'm guessing this is possible to do in T-SQL directly. My server is an MSSQL 2008 and is located in a hosted environment but I can fetch a local copy if needed. Thanks, Stefan

• Perl: Edit hyperlinks in nested tags that aren't on separate lines

I wrote the following perl script to recursively loop through a directory and in all html files for img/script/a tags do the following: Convert the entire url to lowercase Replace spaces and %20 with underscores The script works great except when an image tag in wrapped with an anchor tag. Is there a way to modify the current script to also be able to manipulate the links for nested tags that are not on separate lines?   I have a directory ("files") where sub-directories and files are going to be created and stored over time. The directories also need to deliver a directory listing, using "options indexes", but only if a user is authenticated, and authorized. I have that part built, and working, by doing the following: <Directory /var/www/html/files> Options Indexes IndexOptions FancyIndexing SuppressHTMLPreamble HeaderName /includes/autoindex/auth.php </Directory> Now I need to take care of file delivery. To force authentication for files, I have built the following: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} -f RewriteRule /files/(.*) /auth.php I also tried: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !-d RewriteRule /files/(.*) /auth.php Both directives are redirecting to auth.php when I request: foo.com/files/bar/ foo.com/files/bar/baz I am outputting the SERVER global on auth.php during testing and it is showing the requests as I made them (I thought Apache may have been doing something behind the scenes by adding something like "index.html" to the end with "Options Indexes" being on). Ideas?

  In Visual Studio 2008 (and others) when creating a .NET or silverlight application if you look at your project properties, it seems like you can only have one assembly name - across all configurations. I would like to compile my application as: MyAppDebug - in debug mode and just MyApp - in release mode Does anyone know if this is possible? Edit: It seems some people are questioning the reasoning behind the question, so I'll explain a little further: I'm working on a Silverlight application which gets automatically uploaded to our test site when I to a "build solution". The trouble is, the test team are now testing the online version, whilst I work on a new one. So, I want to have a url like .\MyApp.html for the regular version that the QA team will test and then .\MyApp.html?version=debug for the current version that I'm working on.

  I'm doing form validation using JQuery with the validate and metadata plugins. I'm using the metadata plugin so I can specify the rules and messages inline in the html form instead of in the javascript in the page . I'm getting an error when I try to specify the location of the error message using errorPlacement. (If I specify it in the section it works fine, but not if I specify it inline.) • CSS Rollovers: how to main "hit area" size when hidden image is larger than anchor area

  I have a small problem and I don't think what I want to do can be achieved with just pure CSS, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Basically, I have one DIV which contains a hyperlinked element that is smaller in size to it's parent DIV. So in effect I have a square within a square with the inner square being the "hit area". When I mouse over this inner square I want the background of the outer square to change. I know it's not possible to change the parent DIV's background on a:hover, but I figured I could give the illusion of it happening by nesting a hidden image inside the anchor. This works great until I want to "roll off". The problem is that I want the image to disappear when I leave the area of the anchor tag, not the larger hidden image. Is this possible? If I remove the custom route, it calls my function, but what I want to be displayed in the address bar is: localhost:xxxx/Wizard/1 where the number at the end is the page (div shown) of the wizard either 1, 2, 3, or 4. So is there something I'm missing or can it not be done? Thanks.

• Getting jQuery slideshow animation to stop on click

  I have a slide show built with jQuery that pauses on hover. It has a group of thumbnails sitting on top of the image that advances the image when clicked, otherwise the slideshow just auto-rotates through all the images. There is also a +/- to expand and contract a caption related to each image. I want to have the slideshow's automatic advancing to stop if one of the thumbnails is clicked, or the +/-. Basically, just stop whenever a user clicks anywhere within the gallery (div class=".homeImg"). I'm having a major brain fart in getting this working properly and could use some advice. • What's the smartest way to organize SVN for translated versions of the same project?

  I apologize because I know this has been covered over and over again, but I'm trying to understand the smartest way to cleverly use subversion to our benefit. (*Note: I know our method is not the BEST way to handle localized versions, but external factors are forcing us to work this way on current projects) We have a fairly static website in English...html, css, js, etc. After the site comes back from the translator we will have 5 variations of the same code (this week...then potentially 25 more in the future!). So we'll soon have a folder for EN, FR, SP, DE, etc. Most files (css, js, img) will remain exactly the same; and html files (structure, id's, classes) will only vary based on the localized text inside the elements. Is there any way to use clever SVN folder structuring that would help us out in the event that if a small change is needed, we don't have to manually change the files in each and every translated version of the site? For example: index.html includes a JavaScript file stuff.js and since stuff.js file depends on ./commons.js, it wants to include it too in the page. Problem is that stuff.js only knows the relative path of ./commons.js from itself and has no clue of full url/path. index.html includes stuff.js file as <script src="http://example.net/js/stuff.js?key=value" /> and stuff.js file wants to read the value of key. How to?

• Scaffold default files are the best practice?

  Hey, i have some experience with MVC. but I'm new to rails. I'm using the scaffold command to generate some default files. The model looks clean and nice, but the controller and the views aren't really dry. The contents of new.html.erb and edit.html.erb are almost the same and the methods new/edit and create/update are doing almost the same thing. In other frameworks i've used only one view for updating and creating new entries and also the same method in my controller by setting the id as an optional parameter. Do they use this structure to keep things RESTful (i have not much of a clue about rest :()? Is it the best practice to use this default stuff for crud?

• What does Rails script/server -d do differently that would cause a cells template to not be found

  I'm using cells. I used the generator to create a cell so the path to my template was automatically chosen to be app/cells/displayer/table.html.erb where displayer is the name of the cell and table is the name of the state. When I run script/server in the foreground, everything works perfectly. But when I run script/server -d, I get "Missing template displayer/table.erb in view path app/cells:app/cells/layouts". Even if I change table.html.erb to table.erb, I see the same message - the ActionView code is checking both but not finding either. Even if you're not familiar with cells, does anyone know what happens differently in daemon mode related to view paths? In this case, it appears that the plugin is not correctly registering the view path.

  I'm working on a MVC3 web application. I want a list of categories shown when editing a blo from whe applications managements system. In my viewmodel i've got the following property defined for a list of selectlistitems for categories. /// <summary> /// The List of categories /// </summary> [Display(Name = "Categorie")] public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> Categories { get; set; } The next step, my controller contains the following edit action where the list of selectlistitems is filled from the database. public ActionResult Edit(Guid id) { var blogToEdit = _blogService.First(x => x.Id.Equals(id)); var listOfCategories = _categorieService.GetAll(); var selectList = listOfCategories.Select(x =>new SelectListItem{Text = x.Name, Value = x.Id.ToString(), Selected = x.Id.Equals(blogToEdit.Category.Id)}).ToList(); selectList.Insert(0, new SelectListItem{Text = Messages.SelectAnItem, Value = Messages.SelectAnItem}); var viewModel = new BlogModel { BlogId = blogToEdit.Id, Active = blogToEdit.Actief, Content = blogToEdit.Text, Title = blogToEdit.Titel, Categories = selectList //at this point i see the expected item being selected //Categories = new IEnumerable<SelectListItem>(listOfCategories, "Id", "Naam", blogToEdit.CategorieId) }; return View(viewModel); } When i set a breakpoint just before the view is being returned, i see that the selectlist is filled as i expected. So at this point everything seems to be okay. The viewmodel is filled entirely correct. Then in my view (i'm using Razor) i've got the following two rules which are supposed to render the selectlist for me. @Html.LabelFor(m => m.Categories) @Html.DropDownListFor(model=>model.Categories, Model.Categories, Model.CategoryId) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.Categories) When I run the code and open the view to edit my blog, I can see all the correct data. Also the selectlist is rendered correctly, but the item i want to be selected lost it's selection. How can this be? Until the point the viewmodel is being returned with the view everything is okay. But when i view the webpage in the browser, the selectlist is there only with out the correct selection. What am I missing here? Or doing wrong?
