Netstat shows numerous CLOSE_WAIT states for mysql connections

The output of netstat -an shows many mysql connections in CLOSE_WAIT state and when i checked the processlist in mysql using 'SHOW PROCESSLIST' the connections shown in netstat do not appear. What possible could be the reason for this. I use tomcat with mysql-connector and use a Connection Pool as well. Is it that the application is not closing the mysql connection or is there any other reason for this behaviour... sometimes the CLOSE_WAIT reaches over 200. On the application level i made sure that i close all the connections(make sure i issue a close() command in the finally block) created using jdbc. Any help would be appreciated.

When does the .NET FormAuthentication ticket get checked and how do I tap into this event?

Hello everyone - We are attempting to integrate an ASP.NET MVC site with our client's SSO system using PingFederate. I would like to use the built in FormsAuthentication framework to do this. The way I've gone about it so far is: Set up my Web.config so that my FormsAuthentication LoginURL goes to my site's "BeginAuthentication" action on a "Security" controller. From this action, I set up some session variables (what URL was being accessed, for example, since Ping won't send this info back to me), and then redirect to our client's login page on an external site (www.client.com/Login for example). From here, the authentication takes place and a cookie is generated on the same domain as the one that our application is running on which contains the unique identifier of the authenticated user, I've set it up so that once this happens, the Ping server will redirect to my "EndAuthentication" action on my "Security" controller. In this action, I call my membership class's "ValidateUser" method which takes this unique identifier from the cookie and loads in the user on our application that this ID refers to. I save that logged in user in our Session (Session["LoggedInAs"], for example) and expire the cookie that contains the id of the authenticated user that the SSO system provided for me. All of this works well. The issue I'm wondering about is what happens after our user has already authenticated and manually goes back to our client's login page (www.client.com/login) and logs in as another user. If they do that, then the flow from #2 above to number 3 happens as normal - but since there already exists an authenticated user on our site, it seems as though the FormsAuthentication system doesn't bother kicking off anything so I don't get a chance to check for the cookie I'm looking for to login as this new user. What I'd like to do is, somewhere in my Global.asax file (probably FormsAuthenticate_OnAuthenticate), check to see if the cookie that the SSO system sends to me exists, and if so, sign out of the application using FormsAuthentication.SignOut(). Another issue that seems to be related is that if I let my Session expire, the FormsAuthentication still seems to think I am authenticated and it lets me access a page even though no currently logged in user exists in my Session, so the page doesn't render correctly. Should I tap into the Session_End event and do FormsAuthentication.SignOut() here as well? Basically, I want to know when the authentication ticket created by System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(..) gets checked in the flow of a request so that I can determine whether I need to SignOut() and force revalidation or not. opening a file attachment from an outlook email using clickonce and a file association

Hi, I have a clickonce application (VS2010, .NET 4). I have registered a file association (.task), and this all works well. If I double click a file with the .task extension on the desktop the clickonce application opens and can open the file. If I email the file however, and double click the file from within outlook, I get the open/save dialog. If I click open nothing appears to happen. If I save the file I can open it by double clicking on it. Any ideas why the file does not open from within outlook ? Thanks, Mark

I'm developing a Androidapplication using ListView. ListView have a one file in each and every ListItem. Here, I have set onItemClickin ListView. So, that if user clicks the ListItememail application gets open and attach the particular file in email. Its for the single File, this gets implemented and working fine. Now I want attach the multiple file in email. i.e. the implementing the CheckBoxin each ListItemand checked items have to attached into the Mail. I know its possible because its very similar to the file manager application that checking the multiple file and deleting the all file by clicking the single Button. But don't know how to do.

WebBrowser Control in ATL window. How to free up memory on window unload? I'm stuck.

Hello there. I have a Win32 C++ Application. There is the _tWinMain(...) Method with GetMessage(...) in a while loop at the end. Before GetMessage(...) I create the main window with HWND m_MainHwnd = CreateWindowExW(WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW | WS_EX_LAYERED, CAxWindow::GetWndClassName(), _TEXT("http://www.-website-.com"), WS_POPUP, 0, 0, 1024, 768, NULL, NULL, m_Instance, NULL); ShowWindow(m_MainHwnd) If I do not create the main window, my application needs about 150K in memory. But with creating the main window with the WebBrowser Control inside, the memory usage increases to 8500K. But, I want to dynamically unload the main window. My _tWinMain(...) keeps running! Im unloading with DestroyWindow(m_MainHwnd) But the WebBrowser control won't unload and free up it's memory used! Application memory used is still 8500K! I can also get the WebBrowser Instance or with some additional code the WebBrowser HWND IWebBrowser2* m_pWebBrowser2; CAxWindow wnd = (CAxWindow)m_MainHwnd; HRESULT hRet = wnd.QueryControl(IID_IWebBrowser2, (void**)&m_pWebBrowser2); So I tried to free up the memory used by main window and WebBrowser control with (let's say it's experimental): if(m_pWebBrowser2) m_pWebBrowser2->Release(); DestroyWindow(m_hwndWebBrowser); //<-- just analogous OleUninitialize(); No success at all. I also created a wrapper class which creates the main window. I created a pointer and freed it up with delete: Wrapper* wrapper = new Wrapper(); //wrapper creates main window inside and shows it //...do some stuff delete(wrapper); No success. Still 8500K. So please, how can I get rid of the main window and it's WebBrowser control and free up the memory, returning to about 150K. Later I will recreate the window. It's a dynamically load and unload of the main window, depending on other commands. Thanks! Regards Martin

Prawn PDF with Rails mailer?

Hi Everyone, I have successfully created an email that sends on creation of a Kase, but now I need to attach a PDF that is created on the fly by Prawn and Prawno. Basically when you visit a kase such as application.com/kase/1 you just append the URL with .pdf i.e. application.com/kase/1. I spent ages getting the PDF to work and look how I wanted, but I can't figure out how to add the PDF to an auto sending email - mainly because I cannot work out how to give it a link as it's auto generated. Has anyone ever managed to get this to work? Thanks, Danny

The best way to organize WPF projects

Hello everybody, I've started recently to develop a new software in WPF, and I still don't know which is the best way to organize the application, to be more productive with Visual Studio and Expression Blend. I noticed 2 annoying things I'd like to solve: I'm using Code Contracts in my projects, and when I run my project with Expression Blend, it launches the static analysis of the code. How can I stop that? Which configuration of the project does Blend use by default? I've tried to disable Code Contracts in a new configuration. It works in VS as the static analysis is not launched, but it has no effects in Blend. I've thinked about splitting the Windows Application in 2 parts: the first one containing the views of the WPF (app.exe) and the second one being the core of the project, with the logic code (app.core.dll), and I would just open the former project in Blend. Hi folks, I have a GWT application and wanna to test load and functionality using a tool like jmeter. I am not sure jmeter is right tool for GWT. Can anybody direct me to proper tool or can tell me how to do it with jmeter? I want to test login functionality: I have two text box 'User name' and 'Password' on login screen and want to test how many users can log in simultaneously, how much time a round trip to server it takes. Don't know how jmeter can get 'user name' and 'password' and can submit it to validate against DB for GWT application? Thanks in advance.

I'm writing GWT application where I need to upload video file and encode that video into different video formats. I've decided to use Panda Video Converter. I was able to run panda on my EC2 instance (using their image) and I can upload video from Panda's test pages but now I'm trying to make same thing with my own application in GWT. The question that I have is: How do I get Video id and how do I post my video to the server. What URL do I need to use for that? I tried to read their documentation but have no clue where to start. This is my fist time working with webservices and url, probably that's why I don't how it works.

How can I troubleshoot an APPCRASH in Internet Explorer?

I'm writing an ActiveX control using the firebreath framework (hi taxilian!) and while it technically works, I'm running into a weird issue that appears to be unique to me. I've followed the instructions to create a simple plugin and then I ran it in Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 x64 (firebreath sets up a test page for the control). But as soon as I try to test it (clicking on a link that fires off JavaScript to interact with the control), IE crashes. Hard. "Internet Explorer has stopped working" style. If I try the control in Firefox (the resulting registered DLL can also be called as a Firefox plugin using a MIME type), it works fine. If I try it on my XP box, it works fine. I emailed the DLL and the testing page to a coworker in the next cube who is like me also running Windows 7 x64 and it works for him just fine as well, so it's not something unique to Windows 7 or x64. I did a sfc /scannow yesterday to see if anything on my system is corrupt and nothing came up as wrong. I tried various different security levels in IE, but nothing seems to have any effect. As this is a development machine there has been all matter of crap installed on it, so I figure it's bound to be something I've installed since October (when Win7 was released) but I cannot figure out what it is. I presume the information it's giving me when I attach to Visual Studio is useful somehow but I don't know how to interpret it. Admittedly I'm mainly a C#/.NET developer who's a bit out of his element with C/C++ and troubleshooting native code, but does anyone have any advice on how to proceed on figuring out why this very simple ActiveX control crashes IE on my machine and nowhere else?

PHP voting system with sessions?

Hi guys, I've been reading up on stackoverflow about creating voting systems in PHP that minimize abuse/multiple voting from the same user, but I haven't come across the answer to my question. I've got an application where users don't need to register to vote or "like" an entry. Obviously, I want to minimize abuse and I don't want to limit votes per IP address because some organisations (mine included) use shared IP addresses. I've never used sessions in a non-authenticated system before, but since this application is centered around entry votes I was wondering if this approach would work and whether there were any disadvantages such as performance implications, and whether it's even possible to use sessions in this way: start a session when the website is loaded allow one vote per item per session If this is a bad idea, my alternative options would be to allow a reasonable number of votes per IP address (say 25), or put a time limit between votes from the same IP address. What do you guys recommend?

Creating a bundle - What's going wrong?

Hello everyone, I've got a relatively simple one here. I'm making bundles to live inside the Resources folder of my application (and possibly in the Application Support folder). These bundles will contain template information for the data the application handles. I've constructed a bundle, with extension "booksprintstyle", and the directory structure is up to spec. I have an Info.plist all set and I think I've filled in all the values I need to. Do I need to change something in my App to have these folders-with-extensions recognized as bundle files, or am I missing something in my bundle structure? I noticed that some bundles have a file called PkgInfo; is that important? Problem in calling Excel function

I am facing a problem while making Excel's LinEST function. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020005 (DISP_E_TYPEMISMATCH)) Actually this is the first time I am using Excel function .. so I am unable to proceed further. Problem using yaml-cpp on OS X

Is using ReaderWriterLockSlim a bad idea for long lived objects?

I am trying to track down the reason that an application has periods of bad performance. I think that I have linked the bad performance to the points where Garbage Collection is run for Gen 2. I get a profiling tool (CLR Profiler) and was quite surprised by the results. In my test I was spawning and processing millions of objects. However the biggest hog of the Gen 2 space comes from something Called Threading.ReaderWriterCount which comes from System.Threading.ReaderWriterLockSlim::InitializeThreadCounts. I know nothing about the inner workings of ReaderWriterLockSlim but from what I am getting from the reports it is okay to have 1 or 2 Locks for longer lived objects but try and use other locks if you are going to have many smaller objects. Does anyone have any comments or experience with ReaderWriterLockSlim and/or what to look for if it seems that GC is killing application performance?

It was documented that the there is need to send a GET request to the URL with the user's ID and returns the contact list in XML format. I tried the same but facing the authentication message 401 from browser, normal console java application and from jsp too I guess I must try it using the open social API package. Can anybody please guide or suggest the solution for this problem if possible please post any code sample for any similar application in JAVA as I found most samples are unclear and in JSON only. How do I get Java to use the serial port in Linux?

We make use of a java application that manages a pinpad via the serial port. This works perfectly on windows with the Sun Comm.jar, the supplied dll and the properties file. Now we are attempting to use this solution on Linux (actually it does run on various other flavours of linux out in the field) - with Ubuntu server mode. After much attempts - blood, sweat and almost tears we have this scenario: Java version 1.4.2_17 Linux - Ubuntu Comm libs - Comm3 supplied by sun with the default driver specified An external comm test shows the comm ports: /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1 But the java application says unable to open port /dev/ttyS1 (using the RXRT files produces invalid port errors) Has anyone been able to use java 1.4.2 on linux for serial port communication and found a solution that I could apply in my scenario? greatly appreciated Phill

Stuck on preserving config file in WIX major upgrade!

ARGH! Wix is driving me crazy. So, of course I have seen the many posts both here on stackoverflow and elsewhere about WiX and major upgrades. I inherited this software project using WiX and am releasing a new version. I need this new version to leave ONLY the one configuration file if it's present, and replace everything else. This installer works EXCEPT no matter what I have done so far, the new XML file replaces the old on every install. Even attempting to use NeverOverwrite="yes" and even trying and messing back and forth with OnlyDetect="no"! I am simply stuck and humbly request a little guidance. The file that needs to be preserved is called SETTINGS.XML and is in the All Users-ApplicationData directory. Installing Django/Python on IIS6

We are currently installing the latest version of Django and Python on IIS6. We have followed the instructions on the following site: http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/DjangoOnWindowsWithIISAndSQLServer We are receiving a 403 error when trying to access our Django application via the IIS server. We have verified the python installation on IIS6 and it is working properly. We have also verified the Django installation. Our application runs fine under the built-in Django server, but we are having difficulties getting it to run under IIS. We presume we could be getting errors from "Linking Django to PyISAPIe" section of the instructions provided on the link above. Thanks.

Concurrency Problem in Java ...

I am designing a client-server chat application in Java. This is a secure application where the messages are exchanged using cryptographic algorithms. I have one server and it can support many clients. My problem is that when one client logs on the server it works fine, but when another user logs into the system, the server starts giving me bad padding exceptions for the encrypted text. I am not able to figure out the problem, according to my logic, when new connection request to server is made, the server creates a thread for listening to the client. Is it possible that once the instance of thread class is created, it does all the processing correctly for the first client, but not for the second client because the variables in server listener thread class already have some previous value, and thus the encrypted text is not decrypted properly? Please advise how I can make this process more robust so that the number of clients does not affect how well the server functions.

How to save file using JFileChooser??

Hi, I have a method in my application called "Save as" which Saves the image of my application on computer my into a file. I used the JFileChooser to let the users choose their desired location for saving the file. The problem is unless user explicitly types in the file format, it saves the file with no extension. How can I have formats like jpg, png in the File Type drop down menu. and, how can i get extension from the File Type drop menu for saving my image file. ImageIO.write(image,extension,file);
