  • Persistence with Vaadin

    Hi I'm trying to learn vaadin. I'm really confused how to do any kind of application development with persistence because if I have a reference to my service layer objects, they get stored in session and I really don't want that. Persistence stuff just isn't serializable. My case is that I have an already made application that uses Spring and I'm creating a new UI for it with Vaadin. I can inject the spring stuff to my Vaadin application but that gets stored in the session. Any tips? By the way how do you post in the Vaadin forums? I can't find a post button or way to register :)

    I'm looking for the way to populate a JSP dropdown. I want that when the JSP loads it fills the dropdown with the info that I have in a database table. I'm including the code of my class that will create the array and fill it with the database info.   • Android Context.bindService always returns false and ServiceConnection object is never triggered

    I have followed the Local Service example provided by Google, but my Context::bindService(...) always returns false and there is ServiceConnection::onServiceConnected is also never called. I understand that Context::bindService() returns immediately, but my ServiceConnection object is never triggered. I don't know if these apply My activity is running inside a tabHost and I was wondering if that can affect service binding in any way. The Service itself may have a problem, but I can call start service to the same service with the same Intent and it works as expected. Does anyone have experience with this? Please help me out. I am using one textfield in the detail band when it has more information(words), it is displaying only some information.i.e the words are being cut off.     I'm reading a binary file like this: InputStream in = new FileInputStream( file ); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; while( ( in.read(buffer ) > -1 ) { int a = // ??? } What I want to do it to read up to 4 bytes and create a int value from those but, I don't know how to do it. I kind of feel like I have to grab 4 bytes at a time, and perform one "byte" operation ( like << & FF and stuff like that ) to create the new int What's the idiom for this? EDIT Ooops this turn out to be a bit more complex ( to explain ) What I'm trying to do is, read a file ( may be ascii, binary, it doesn't matter ) and extract the integers it may have. For instance suppose the binary content ( in base 2 ) : 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000001 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000010 The integer representation should be 1 , 2 right? :- / 1 for the first 32 bits, and 2 for the remaining 32 bits. 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 Would be -1 and 01111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 Would be Integer.MAX_VALUE ( 2147483647 )

  • Has anybody use javafx on CDC J9?

    Is that possible?? I mean, I have an already working project that runs in windows mobile using the J9 virtual machine for CDC. My user interface there is using AWT and it works fine and it looks OK, but been honest it doesn't take real advantage of the devices were is running... So I start reading about JavaFX and that looks really cool, but all that I see about mobiles there is applied to CLDC, MIDP, etc. but my application is already running on CDC J9 and I can't change this cause I'm using a Derby database on it. So, my plan is to code the GUI again, but keeping the logic of the application. So do you guys think javafx is the way to go? or, am I wasting my time learning javafx for this project.     Hi, I'm working on a servlet that makes a connection to a database gets the information of one of the tables ans sends this information to a jsp file. This file will print on the brower the information table, adding radio buttons that allows us to choose one of the rows. It looks like it sends the characters located before the first white space of the string. How could I get the whole string? Thanks

  • Quartz Thread Execution Parallel or Sequential?

    We have a quartz based scheduler application which runs about 1000 jobs per minute which are evenly distributed across seconds of each minute i.e. about 16-17 jobs per second. Ideally, these 16-17 jobs should fire at same time, however our first statement, which simply logs the time of execution, of execute method of the job is being called very late. e.g. let us assume we have 1000 jobs scheduled per minute from 05:00 to 05:04. So, ideally the job which is scheduled at 05:03:50 should have logged the first statement of the execute method at 05:03:50, however, it is doing it at about 05:06:38. I have tracked down the time taken by the scheduled job which comes around 15-20 milliseconds. This scheduled job is fast enough because we just send a message on an ActiveMQ queue. We have specified the number of threads of quartz to be 100 and even tried with increasing it to 200 and more, but no gain. One more thing we noticed is that logs from scheduler are coming sequential after first 1 minute i.e. [Quartz_Worker_28] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_29] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_30] <Some log statement> .. .. So it suggesting that after some time quartz is running threads almost sequential. May be this is happening due to the time taken in notifying the job completion to persistence store (which is a separate postgres database in this case) and/or context switching. What can be the reason behind this strange behavior?     I have a field in a form to state the time duration of an event. Say, the event is to last 15 mins. So the field will have the following value: 00:15 If it is to last 1 hour: 01:00, etc. How can I create a Joda Duration object with the string "HH:MM"? Looking at Joda Time home page, it mentions that it is possible to create a Duration object from specified object using ConverterManager and DurationConverter respectively. My question is, how can I implement the above interfaces so that I can create a Duration object by passing the a "4:30" parameter? Thanks in advance, Lucas

The JobExecutor intern creates another executor (for doing db stuff...reading and writing data to queue) and completes the task. JobExecutor returns a Future for the tasks submitted.   • prevent bots to query my database several times

    Hi all, I'm building an application that is a kind of registry. Think about the dictionary: you lookup for a word and it return something if the word is founded. Now, that registry is going to store valuable informations about companies, and some could be tempted to get the complete listing. My application use EJB 3.0 that replies to WS. So I was thinking about permits a maximum of 10 query per IP address per day. Storing the IP address and a counter on a table that would be empty by a script every night. Is it a good idea/practice to do so? If yes, how can I get the IP address on the EJB side? Is there a better way to prevent something to get all the data from my database? I've also though about CAPTCHA but I think it's a pain for the user, and sometime, they are difficult to read even for real human. Hope it's all clear since I'm not english... Thanks Alain

    I'm working with eBay's LMS (Large Merchant Services) and kept running into the error: org.xml.sax.SAXException: SimpleDeserializer encountered a child element, which is NOT expected, in something it was trying to deserialize. After alot of trial and error I traced the problem down. It turns out this works: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <BulkDataExchangeRequests xmlns="urn:ebay:apis:eBLBaseComponents"> <Header> <Version>583</Version> <SiteID>0</SiteID> </Header> <AddFixedPriceItemRequest xmlns="urn:ebay:apis:eBLBaseComponents"> while this (what I've been sending) doesn't: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <BulkDataExchangeRequests xmlns="urn:ebay:apis:eBLBaseComponents"> <Header> <Version>583</Version> <SiteID>0</SiteID> </Header> <AddFixedPriceItemRequest> The difference is the xml namespace attribute on the AddFixedPriceItemRequest . All of my XML is currently being marshalled via JAXB and I'm not sure what is the best way to go about adding a second xmlns attribute to a different element in my file. So that's the question. How do I add an xmlns attribute to another element in JAXB? The BulkDataExchange probably takes the XML payload, breaks it up, and send the pieces out to the Merchant or Trading API. The inner pieces of the payload then do not have the namespace and the get the error. This is a guess on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if this is what was going on behind the scenes.     I'm trying to integrate Spring 3.0.5 with Jersey 1.4. I seem to have everything working, but whenever I try and return a Viewable that points to a JSP, I get a 404 error. When I wasn't using spring I could use this filter: <filter> <filter-name>Jersey Filter</filter-name> <filter-class>com.sun.jersey.spi.container.servlet.ServletContainer</filter-class> <init-param> <param-name>com.sun.jersey.config.feature.Redirect</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>com.sun.jersey.config.property.packages</param-name> <param-value>cheetah.frontend.controllers</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>com.sun.jersey.config.feature.FilterForwardOn404</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>com.sun.jersey.config.property.WebPageContentRegex</param-name> <param-value>/(images|css|jsp)/.*</param-value> </init-param> </filter> And I could return a Viewable to any JSP's, image, css that were stored in the appropriate folder. However, now that I have to use the SpringServlet to get spring integration, I'm at a loss for how to access resources, since I can't use the filter above.     In the Sun JVM, classes that are loaded by the class loader are put in permgen space and never gc'd. (Unless the class loader goes out of scope) It's my understanding that JRockit puts that same data on the heap instead. Is that data then subject to garbage collection? Thanks.

  • Checking if date parsing is correct

    Hello, I have this code for checking whether the Date is OK or not, but it's not ckecking all the cases. For example when text="03/13/2009" as this date doesn't exist in the format "dd/MM/yyyy" it parses the date as 03/01/2010. Is there any way to change this behaviour and getting an exception when I try to parse a Date which is not correct?     Hi Everyone, here's a problem that i've run into lately: I have a listview with a custom adapter class, the adapter takes in a listview and populates the listview with elements from it. Now, i'd like to have a button on each row of a listview to remove the item from it. How should i approach this problem?
