  • Under which circumstances can a *local* user account access a remote SQL Server with a trusted connection?

    One of our customers has the following configuration: On the domain controller, there's an SQL Server. On his PC (WinXP), he logs on with LocalPC\LocalUser. In Windows Explorer, he opens DomainController\SomeShare and authenticates as Domain\Administrator. He starts our application, which opens a trusted connection (Windows authentication) to the SQL Server. It works. In SSMS, the connection shows up with the user Domain\Administrator. Firstly, I was surprised that this even works. (My first suspicion was that there is a user with the same name and password in the domain, but there is no user LocalUser in the domain.) Then we tried to reproduce the same behaviour on his new PC, but failed: On his new PC (Win7), he logs on with OtherLocalPC\OtherLocalUser. In Windows Explorer, he opens DomainController\SomeShare and authenticates as Domain\Administrator. He starts our application, which opens a trusted connection (Windows authentication) to the SQL Server. It fails with the error message Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. Hence my question: Under which conditions can a non-domain user access a remote SQL Server using Windows Authentication with different credentials? Apparently, it's possible (it works on his old PC), but why? And how can I reproduce it?

  • List with non-null elements ends up containing null. A synchronization issue?

    Hi. First of all, sorry about the title -- I couldn't figure out one that was short and clear enough. Here's the issue: I have a list List<MyClass> list to which I always add newly-created instances of MyClass, like this: list.Add(new MyClass()). I don't add elements any other way. However, then I iterate over the list with foreach and find that there are some null entries. That is, the following code: foreach (MyClass entry in list) if (entry == null) throw new Exception("null entry!"); will sometimes throw an exception. I should point out that the list.Add(new MyClass()) are performed from different threads running concurrently. The only thing I can think of to account for the null entries is the concurrent accesses. List<> isn't thread-safe, after all. Though I still find it strange that it ends up containing null entries, instead of just not offering any guarantees on ordering. Can you think of any other reason? Also, I don't care in which order the items are added, and I don't want the calling threads to block waiting to add their items. If synchronization is truly the issue, can you recommend a simple way to call the Add method asynchronously, i.e., create a delegate that takes care of that while my thread keeps running its code? I know I can create a delegate for Add and call BeginInvoke on it. Does that seem appropriate? Thanks.

    Grails offers the ability to automatically create and bind domain objects to a hasMany List, as described in the grails user guide. So, for example, if my domain object "Author" has a List of many "Book" objects, I could create and bind these using the following markup (from the user guide): <g:textField name="books[0].title" value="the Stand" /> <g:textField name="books[1].title" value="the Shining" /> <g:textField name="books[2].title" value="Red Madder" /> In this case, if any of the books specified don't already exist, Grails will create them and set their titles appropriately. If there are already books in the specified indices, their titles will be updated and they will be saved. My question is: is there some easy way to tell Grails to remove one of those books from the 'books' association on data bind? The most obvious way to do this would be to omit the form element that corresponds to the domain instance you want to delete; unfortunately, this does not work, as per the user guide: Then Grails will automatically create a new instance for you at the defined position. If you "skipped" a few elements in the middle ... Then Grails will automatically create instances in between. I realize that a specific solution could be engineered as part of a command object, or as part of a particular controller- however, the need for this functionality appears repeatedly throughout my application, across multiple domain objects and for associations of many different types of objects. A general solution, therefore, would be ideal. Does anyone know if there is something like this included in Grails?

The invariants I want to guarantee are: A person must have an organization this is enforced via the Person's constuctor An organization must know of its people this is why the Organization has a CreatePerson method A person must belong to only one organization this is why the organization's people list is not publicly mutable (ignoring the casting to List, maybe ToEnumerable can enforce that, not too concerned about it though) What I want out of this is that if a person is created, that the organization knows about its creation. However, the problem with the model currently is that you are able to create a person without ever adding it to the organizations collection.   • How to output JSON from within Django and call it with jQuery from a cross domain?

    For a bookmarklet project I'm trying to get JSON data using jQuery from my server (which is naturally on a different domain) running a Django powered system. According to jQuery docs: "As of jQuery 1.2, you can load JSON data located on another domain if you specify a JSONP callback, which can be done like so: "myurl?callback=?". jQuery automatically replaces the ? with the correct method name to call, calling your specified callback." And for example I can test it successfully in my Firebug console using the following snippet: $.getJSON("http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=cat&tagmode=any& format=json&jsoncallback=?", function(data){ alert(data.title); }); It prints the returned data in an alert window, e.g. 'Recent uploads tagged cat'. However when I try the similar code with my server I don't get anything at all: $.getJSON("http://mydjango.yafz.org/randomTest?jsoncallback=?", function(data){ alert(data.title); }); There are no alert windows and the Firebug status bar says "Transferring data from mydjango.yafz.org..." and keeps on waiting. On the server side I have this: def randomTest(request): somelist = ['title', 'This is a constant result'] encoded = json.dumps(somelist) response = HttpResponse(encoded, mimetype = "application/json") return response I also tried this without any success: def randomTest(request): if request.is_ajax() == True: req = {} req ['title'] = 'This is a constant result.' response = json.dumps(req) return HttpResponse(response, mimetype = "application/json") So to cut a long story short: what is the suggested method of returning a piece of data from within a Django view and retrieve it using jQuery in a cross domain fashion?     Quick version: New computer, attached to Windows domain, with SteadyState w/ Disk Protection turned on, cannot log on as domain user because Windows states 'system security log is full' Troubleshooting performed: disabled all 'restrictions' listed in SteadyState, cleared system security log, changed security log settings to overwrite entries when it becomes full, restarted computer to commit changes, verified changes were commited - still cannot log on as domain user, changed Documents and Settings folder to another partition, still cannot log on as domain user Let me know if you need a more detailed description of any steps performed. I appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Two different sites, same IP, same top-level domain, on IIS 7.5 -- one works and the other displays HTTP 404 error

    I'm running a Windows 2008 R2 box with IIS 7.5 as the web server. On IIS, I have two websites: mysubsite1.mysite.com and mysubsite2.mysite.com. There is only one IP on the server and both sites share this IP. Here is how I have the bindings configured: mysubsite1.mysite.com works fine. However, mysubsite2.mysite.com gives me the following error: Not Found HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found. Now, if I change the Host name field for mysubsite1.mysite.com to blank and restart the web server, both sites work! The question is why is the host name field for the first site causing an HTTP 404 error for the second site when both sites' Host name fields are filled? I would appreciate any insight. Thank you.
