• PHP with DB backed-end application to complete windows EXE possible or not?

  Hi, Let's say I have a php application backed-end with SQLite and I would like to convert whole application to exe file so the end user can just click it and run on windows. User should be able to save, update and add new data into database without any web server or browser things. Is it possible? I found out that we can use PHP-GTK for UI. exeoutput.com supports with database engines according to it's website. Anyone have tried it out? If I'm missing something, pls share with me. • PhysX for massive performance via GPU ?

  I recently compared some of the physics engine out there for simulation and game development. Some are free, some are opensource, some are commercial (1 is even very commercial $$$$). Havok, Ode, Newton (aka oxNewton), Bullet, PhysX and "raw" build-in physics in some 3D engines. At some stage I came to conclusion or question: Why should I use anything but NVidia PhysX if I can make use of its amazing performance (if I need it) due to GPU processing ? With future NVidia cards I can expect further improvement independent of the regular CPU generation steps. The SDK is free and it is available for Linux as well. Of course it is a bit of vendor lock-in and it is not opensource. Whats your view or experience ? If you would start right now with development, would you agree with the above ? cheers

  i have a site like twitter.com on server one and on server two i have forum, which path is like domain.com/forum on server one i wanted to implement wild card dns and put main domain on it. but on server two i wanted to keep forum separate, i cant give sub-domain forum.domain.com, because all its links are already put in search engines and link back to domain.com/forum. so i was wondering, how can i put domain and wild card dns on server one and still able to give path on server 2 for domain.com/forum (as sub-folder). any ideas? do you think htaccess can do that job? if yes, then how?

InnoDB is one of MySQL storage engines, it supports transactions, row-level locking, and foreign-keys. However, by default, InnoDB is not enabled by XAMPP. To enable it, locate the my.cnf configuration file (normally in C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory) and search for the following lines: # Comment the following if you are using InnoDB tables But the path C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory in my system doesn't seem to have such a file... • Graphing new users by date with Seer

  I'd like to implement a rolling graph showing new users by day over the last 7 days using Seer. I've got Seer installed: http://www.idolhands.com/ruby-on-rails/gems-plugins-and-engines/graphing-for-ruby-on-rails-with-seer I'm struggling to get my brain around how to implement. I've got an array of the Users I want to plot: @users = User.all( :conditions = {:created_at = 7.days.ago..Time.zone.now}) Can't see the right way to implement the :data_method to roll them up by created_at date. Anyone done this or similar with Seer? Anyone smarter than me able to explain this after looking at the Seer sample page (linked above)?

• Rendering plain text through PHP

  Hi, For some reason, I want to serve my robots.txt via a PHP script. I have setup apache so that the robots.txt file request (infact all file requests) come to a single PHP script. The code I am using to render robots.txt is: echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; However, it is not processing the newlines. How to server robots.txt correctly, so search engines (or any client) see it properly? Do I have to send some special headers for txt files? EDIT: Now I have the following code: header("Content-Type: text/plain"); echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; which still does not display newlines (see http://sarcastic-quotes.com/robots.txt ). Is this considered as a bad practice? A friend of mine says that it is ok for Intranet environment but on internet it might not be find friendly by search engines.   I'm currently researching Java libraries to help in building a meta type search engine in the sense of being able to replace any given search engine in the back-end of the application or to simultaneously search using multiple search engines. I'm not interested in the GUI part here, just the generalization of search engine APIs and usage. I'd like to know about the common libraries used to achieve this task and if there are any common patterns used in this case. I imagined that this problem is common enough to be able to find plenty of stuff on Google, but it seems like search is a very proprietary domain and not much information is fed back to the community.

• Rails ActiveRecord BigNum to JSON

  Hi, I am serializing an ActiveRecord model in rails 2.3.2 to_json and have noticed that BigNum values are serialized to JSON without quotes, however, javascript uses 64 bits to represent large numbers and only ~52(?) of those bits are available for the integer part, the rest are for the exponent. So my 17 digit numbers become rounded off, grrr. Try the following in the Firebug console: console.log(123456789012345678) So, I'm thinking that the json encoder should be smart enough to quote numbers that are too big for the javascript engines to handle. How do I fix up rails to do that? Or, is there a way to override the encoding for a single property on the model (I don't want to_s elsewhere)? Thanks.

  Hello everyone, I was hoping someone could answer my quick question as I am going nuts! I have recently started learning regular expressions in my Java programming however am a little confused how to get certain features to work correctly directly in BASH. For example, the following code is not working as I think it should. echo 2222 | grep '2\{2\}' I am expecting it to return: 22 I have tried variations of it including: echo 2222 | grep '2{2}' echo 2222 | grep -P '2\{2\}' echo 2222 | grep -E '2\{2\}' However I am completely out of ideas. I'm sure this is a simple parameter / syntax fix and would love some help! P.S I've done tons of googling and every reference I find does not work in BASH; regex's can run on so many different platforms and engines =/

• Unity3D, Torque3D, Google O3D, WebGl....which to choose?

  for development of interactive 3d web applications, which engine is recommended? I am aware that WebGL has been anounced to become standarized for all browsers in the near future (1~2 years). I am afraid that by investing time into a proprietary game engine such as Unity, torque would be not great once plugin-less open source 3d engines appear (webgl & 3D javascript). Is this a stupid thing to worry about ? Should I begin with Unity3D (it's demo's and tools were mind blowing).

  Given, when a user requests /foo on my server, I send the following HTTP response (not closing the connection): Content-Type: multipart/x-mixed-replace; boundary=----------------------- ----------------------- Content-Type: text/html <a href="/bar">foo</a> When the user clicks on foo (which will send 204 No Content so the view doesn't change), I want to send the following data in the initial response. ----------------------- Content-Type: text/html bar How would could I get the second request to trigger this from the initial response? • Engine finish() causes segmentation fault

  Hello All - I am using M2Crypto revision 723 from the repository. I am trying to clean up my engine. If I have the pkcs11.finish() line in my script, the script finishes but gets a segmentation fault at the end. Without the finish() line, no segmentation fault occurs.   I am using the negative-text-indent technique I learned to show a text-image to the user, while hiding the corresponding actual text. This way the user sees the fancy styled text while search engines can still index it. However I am started to think this sounds like cloaking since I am serving different content to the user vs the spider. However, I am not using this in a deceitful way. Plus it seems like this is a popular technique. So is it SEO-safe or is it cloaking? Thanks!

• Minimalistic PHP template engine with caching but not Smarty?

  There are loads of questions for "the right" PHP template engine, but none of them is focused on caching. Does anybody know a lightweight, high-quality, PHP 5 based template engine that does the following out of the box: Low-level templating functions (Replacements, loops, and filtering, maybe conditionals) Caching of the parsed results with the possibility to set an individual TTL per item, and of course to force a reload programmatically Extremely easy usage (like Smarty's) Modest in polluting the namespace (the ideal solution would be one class to interact with from the outside application) But not Smarty. I have nothing against, and often use, Smarty, but I am looking for something a bit simpler and leaner. I took a look at Fabien Potencier's Twig that looks very nice and compiles templates into PHP code, but it doesn't do any actual caching beyond that. I need and want a template engine, as I need to completely separate code and presentation in a way that a HTML designer can understand later on, so please no fundamental discussions about whether template engines in PHP make sense. Those discussions are important, but they already exist on SO.

• Best Template Engine for ASP.NET MVC

  I am exploring ASP.NET MVC and I wanted to add jQuery to make the site interactive. I used StringTemplate, ported to .Net, as my template engine to generate html and to send JSON. However, when I view the page, I could not see it. After debugging, I've realized that the $ is used by the StringTemplate to access property, etc and jQuery uses it too to manipulate the DOM. Gee, I've looked on other template engines and most of them uses the dollar sign :(. Any alternative template engine for ASP.Net MVC? I wanted to retain jQuery because MSFT announced that it will used in the Visual Studio (2008?) Thanks in Advance :)

But it's pretty hard to find a new host with search engines, because they normally give you those crappy affiliate driven reviews sites. Which host would you use for: Small personal websites with small traffic. Medium to large websites/applications with medium to large traffic. What host would you use for your assets (large images, media, etc...). Favorite dedicated/vps host.

• Wrong bbox or descent with @font-face and opentype font

  Hey all, I embedded a opentype font with @font-face. Works fine, but the bbox or descent (or baseline/descent line?) is wrong on certain browsers/OSs. The problem is e.g. on a Mac the bbox is not right, that means to center the text in it's bbox I have to set a padding to the paragraph. I guess the font was created on Windows and was not tested on Linux and OS X, and the font rendering engines in these OSs work diffrently. Any idea how to solve withs problem? • Programming language for web

  I haven't programmed in a while, and have kind of lost interest, but I want to get back, and I've enjoyed C# the most, a lot more than objective-c and visual basic. So I want to make some games that me and my friends will be able to play next school year. So basically something you can play on the web. What programming languages deploy to the web? If c# is possible, and a mac with safari/firefox would be able to use it (I can't install plugins, and I don't want to get in trouble for making myself admin again) Flash, Java, etc. If java does, I'd like that most since it's most like c#. Then what libraries/engines would I use? I want to do 2d. And then what IDE would I use? Thanks in advance!

• Do any browsers yet support HTML5's checkValidity() method?

  The HTML5 spec defines some very interesting validation components, including pattern (for validating against a Regexp) and required (for marking a field as required). As best I can tell, however, no browser yet actually does any validation based on these attributes. I found a comparison of HTML5 support across engines, but there is no information about validation there. In the browsers I've tried (Firefox 3.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4), no object has a checkValidity() method, so I can't run the validations even though I can define them. Is there any support for this feature out there so I can experiment?

• How to create a backup from SqlAlchemy?

  I'm writing a Pylons app, and am trying to create a simple backup system where every table is serialized and tarred up into a single file for an administrator to download, and use to restore the app should something bad happen. I can serialize my table data just fine using the SqlAlchemy serializer, and I can deserialize it fine as well, but I can't figure out how to commit those changes back to the database. In order to serialize my data I am doing this: from myproject.model.meta import Session from sqlalchemy.ext.serializer import loads, dumps q = Session.query(MyTable) serialized_data = dumps(q.all()) In order to test things out, I go ahead and truncation MyTable, and then attempt to restore using serialized_data: from myproject.model import meta restore_q = loads(serialized_data, meta.metadata, Session) This doesn't seem to do anything... I've tried calling a Session.commit after the fact, individually walking through all the objects in restore_q and adding them, but nothing seems to work. What am I missing? Or is there a better way to do what I'm aiming for? I don't want to shell out and directly touch the database, since SqlAlchemy supports different database engines.
