  • How do you hide/show UISearchBar's scope bar with animation?

    I want to show no scope bar when the table is empty (before the search bar edits for the first time), no scope bar when it's editing, and finally show it when editing done. I know about the UISearchBarDelegate protocol, but I don't know how to show/hide the scope bar with animation. I know UISearchBar has setShowsScopeBar:, but no setShowsScopeBar:animated: the way it does for setShowsCancelButton:animated.

  • Ruby on Rails: Using XML Builder Partials

    Partials in XML builder are proving to be non-trivial. After some initial Google searching, I found the following to work, although it's not 100% xml.foo do xml.id(foo.id) xml.created_at(foo.created_at) xml.last_updated(foo.updated_at) foo.bars.each do |bar| xml << render(:partial => 'bar/_bar', :locals => { :bar => bar }) end end this will do the trick, except the XML output is not properly indented. the output looks something similar to: <foo> <id>1</id> <created_at>sometime</created_at> <last_updated>sometime</last_updated> <bar> ... </bar> <bar> ... </bar> </foo> The <bar> element should align underneath the <last_updated> element, it is a child of <foo> like this: <foo> <id>1</id> <created_at>sometime</created_at> <last_updated>sometime</last_updated> <bar> ... </bar> <bar> ... </bar> </foo> Works great if I copy the content from bar/_bar.xml.builder into the template, but then things just aren't DRY.

    Given a classes Foo, Bar which have hibernate mappings to tables Foo, A, B and C public class Foo { Integer aid; Integer bid; Integer cid; ...; } public class Bar { A a; B b; C c; ...; } I build a List fooList of an arbitrary size and I would like to use hibernate to fetch List where the resulting list will look something like this: Bar[1] = [X1,Y2,ZA,...] Bar[2] = [X1,Y2,ZB,...] Bar[3] = [X1,Y2,ZC,...] Bar[4] = [X1,Y3,ZD,...] Bar[5] = [X2,Y4,ZE,...] Bar[6] = [X2,Y4,ZF,...] Bar[7] = [X2,Y5,ZG,...] Bar[8] = ... Where each Xi, Yi and Zi represents a unique object. I know I can iterate fooList and fetch each List and call barList.addAll(...) to build the result list with something like this: List<bar> barList.addAll(s.createQuery("from Bar bar where bar.aid = :aid and ...   • SQL Server: How to tell if a database is a system database?

    I know that so far (until MSSQL 2005 at least), system databases are master, model, msdb and tempdb. Thing is, as far as I can tell, this is not guaranteed to be preserved in the future. And neither the sys.databases view nor the sys.sysdatabases view tell me if a database is considered as a system database. Is there someplace where this information (whether a database is considered a system database or not) can be obtained?

  • Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

    i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again. I'm using Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H, and my Linux version is 11 i think the driver i'm using is Realtek i searched in the Internet and i found nothing. these are some outputs of few things   • Disable Windows 8 edge gestures/hot corners for multi-touch applications while running in full screen

    I have a full screen AS3 game maby with Adobe AIR that runs in Windows 7. In this game it may not be easy to exit (think about kiosk mode, only exit by pressing esc and enter a password). Now I want this game to run in Windows 8. The game is working like expected but the anoying things are these edge gestures/hot corners (left, top, right, bottom) and the shortcuts. I've read articles but none helped me. People talk about registery edits, but I dont get this working + the user needs to restart his/hers computer. I want to open my game, turn off gestures/hot corners and when the game closes the gestures/hot corners need to come back available again. I have seen some applications doing the same what I want to accomplish. I found this so I am able to detect the gestures. But how to ignore they're actions? I also read ASUS Smart Gestures but this is for the touch-pad. And I have tried Classic Shell but I need to disable the edge gestures/hot corners without such programs, just on-the-fly. I also found this but I don't know how to implement this. In the code, I added the navController just fine. When i put break point in my workerprogresschanged event, it show the progressbar.value however does not update. If so, Is there any proper way to fill this up? Like, I am running a site as my blog, what should the the organization field?   • What are some easy techniques to scan books for new information?

    I find it irresistible to keep purchasing cheap programming and technical e-books in fields such as Drupal, PHP, etc., and also compulsively download free material made available such as those from Microsoft's developer blog... The main problem with the large library I've developed is that there are many chapters (especially the first few) in these books packed with information I already know, but with helpful tidbits hidden in between. The logical step would be to skip those chapters and read the ones I don't seem to know anything about, but I'm afraid I may lose out on really important information this way. But naturally it is tedious to have to read about variables, functions and objects all over again when you are trying to know more about the Registry pattern, for example. It's hard to research on the net for this, because my question itself seems vague and difficult to formulate into a single search query. I need people-advice - what do you do in this situation?

  • Why would a web site keep my signup information for a limited time only?

    I have just created account at (some web service, well, actually it was Transifex, a localization service). Registration form requested typical things: accont name, e-mail adress, password (twice), and, optional company name and phone number. What confused me was this sentence on confirmation page (the one right after submitting the form): We will store your signup information for 7 days on our server. Can anybody explain what does this mean? What exactly they are referring to by "signup information", if it's something that should be kept for only 7 days? Or is my account going to be destroyed after that time? (Well, that could make sense for some special services, but not for this one.)

  • What is the best database design for managing historical information? [closed]

    Say you have a Person table with columns such as: ID, FirstName, LastName, BirthCountry, ...etc. And you want to keep track of changes on such a table. For example, the user may want to see previous names of a person or previous addresses, etc. The normalized way is to keep names in separate table, addresses in a separate table,...etc. and the main person table will contain only the information that you are not interested in monitoring changes for (such information will be updated in place). The problem I see here, aside form the coding hassle due to the extensive number of joins required in a real-life situation, is that I have never seen this type of design in any real application (maybe because most did not provide this feature!). So, is there a better way to design this? Thanks.

  • Am I making the right decision to take Information technology/system as my course in college?

    I am a student who just ended my high school last year. I will be entering college any time between march to August. And.. I am thinking of studying Information technology/System as my course in college. The problem is, I am unsure if this is the right path for me. I don't know if this is what I really want for my future later on! Yes, I do love learning more about computers (prefer software to hardware). But what if I don't find them interesting later on when studying? I'm worried about that as I don't wanna regret later on. To add to that, my knowledge of programming and other software development is actually quite low. Can someone advise me on what should I do? Or tell me more about Information technology (what will I study later on in college and the career path)?

The user can do nothing or close the box, but then it will never be seen again. E.g. Facebook home page. Box asking for Translators. if you leave it then its always there. But if you close it, it never appears again. Does this mean that a Boolean value needs to be used and checked for announcement/info boxes?   • Creating a GTK theme, but Qt and Java apps are not affected, and title bar button layout is ugly

    I'm playing with a gtk2 / gtk3 theme which I use in the Mate desktop. Everything is looking well, even gtk3 apps, but I still have 3 important issues: Java apps ignore the theme QT apps ignore the theme I'm using those nice ubuntu 10 title bar buttons, but the problem is, when only the close button appears, the title bar looks ugly. Can I make it so that it shows the two other buttons, but disabled? I don't know how Ubuntu 10 handled this. Here's a screenshot showing the 3 problems (above is a small java app, below is a Qt app): Under my previous desktop environments, Unity and Cinnamon, both apps seemed to be taking the right theme correctly, but I did not use my custom theme yet. Cinnamon is based on gnome-shell by the way, and mate is a gnome2-fork. Please note that the shown java app explicitely tries to load the gtk theme at runtime. By default, java apps don't, but this one has the necessary code, which worked in unity and cinnamon. Any suggestions how I could make my theme better so these problems disappear?
