  • After virus, Chrome & Internet Explorer won't connect to the internet, but Firefox works fine.

    - by Zack
I cannot connect to the internet with Chrome or Internet Explorer. Firefox works fine. It seems it happens when I was infected by a "Trojan Horse Generic 17.BWIK", "Trojan Horse SHeur.UHL" and "Fake_Antispyware.FAH". I have removed the threats using AVG anti-virus security. I got Firefox working, but Chrome and IE still cannot connect. I do not want to loose Chrome History so re-setting would be my last option and uninstall and install will be out of the question. Is there a way around this? I am using XP Pro on a desktop and DSL connection.

  • Setting up wifi router as a switch for Internet Connection Sharing

    - by William C
Can my laptop with a 3G connection share its Internet via a Wifi router (Dlink DIR-615)? I turned Internet Connection Sharing on and Windows assigned 192.168.137.1 to my laptop's LAN adapter. Do I connect my laptop to the WAN port or to the LAN port of the router? What should I set as my router's IP address? Do I turn DHCP on my router on? Do I assign 192.168.137.x as static addresses on the other computers? If not, what? Is there anything else I need to set on my router? Thank you!

  • Sharing internet connection with WDS

    - by cornjuliox
Is it possible to share an internet connection through WDS? I'm on the very edge of a wireless network, the spot that I'm in maintains a stable 22% according to XP with the help of a parabolic reflector crafted from a cheap pie tin. I was thinking I could grab another wireless router, use WDS to bridge the this router with the other one and share the 'net connection through it thus giving me a little bit more freedom but when I tried it it didn't work. WDS looks like it bridged the networks just fine, but I couldn't access anything on the internet. Do I need to do anything special or is this just not possible?

  • Internet Time tab has disappeared from the Date and Time applet of the Control Panel

    - by Robert Thornton
Previously, there was an Internet Time tab on the Date and Time applet of the Control Panel, wherein one could force a query of an internet time server and also type in a different server from the ones supplied. However, this tab has now disappeared, and I need to have it back. I should mention that this machine has never been part of a domain, since it seems that machines that are such do not have such a tab. I should be obliged to anyone who can help me restore the missing tab. Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

  • Ubuntu 11.10 firewall/gateway - no client internet access

    - by Siriss
I have read many other posts but cannot figure this out. eth0 is my external connected to a Comcast modem. • internet speed and routers are controlled by whom

    - by Ozgun Sunal
i need to learn two things. each is related to other a bit. The first one is, while our LAN speed is usually 100 Mbps or at gigabit levels(very big compared to WAN speeds), WAN speed for instance DSL connections are far less than this. However, we are able to download huge files at those Mb speeds. Isn't this weird? [my real concern is why WAN speed is lower than LAN speeds] Who controls those routers around the large Internet? (while we, as web clients are connected to Internet, packets travel through those routers to the destination network/s).But, are those routers all inside the ISP network and if not, who controls those large numbers of routers?

  • Unable to access internet if wireless enabled

The following is my route output. eth0 is my wired network and eth1 is my wireless network. Only wired one has access to internet. If I enable wireless, I am not able to access internet, it tries to access via eth1 and I get 404 page of the wireless router. Why does eth1 have higher preference though default is eth0 (link)? • Windows VPN - NO internet access

    - by sharru
I host a network of servers behind a Fortigate 200a firewall in the DC. I connect to those servers via a VPN connection. The problem is that when i connect to the VPN, I lose my internet connection on the local PC (windows 7). I would like to be connected to the VPN and still surf the web. i guess this means to only forward a range of ip to the VPN connection. I've read other answers on serverfault, talking about "un-check the 'Use default gateway on remote network' option in your Windows 7 PPTP network connection settings". When i do that , i get internet access but no access to the servers in the VPN. Any idea how to get both working? Should i change something on the fortigate 200a config? Do i need two networks cards? Is there a place in windows to define ip range for the vpn connection?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Can't connect RDP over the Internet

    - by Jonathan DeMarks
I have two networks: Domain and Public, Domain is a VPN connection and Public is the local connection to the network. This is not a domain controller or a DNS/DHCP server. I can connect via RDP from the local network (192.168.1.), from the VPN network (10.1.2.), and from the VPN network over the internet. I cannot connect from the internet (anywhere besides where the server is VPN'd) Wireshark indicates that the server is getting packets, and the audit log is indicating that the packets are being dropped. Advanced Firewall has explicit options to allow RDP, and has no deny policies. I have also tried turning Firewall off completely to no avail. I'm really lost on this one.

  • Windows 7 ipv4 autoconfiguration - cannot connect to internet

    - by GuiccoPiano
    I get my internet connection from a guy (lets call him my service provider henceforth). He gives internet connections to many students here in my hostel. My PC gets a private IP through his DHCP server. Now, when I switch on my WiFi, my PC gets a private IP as it should and I can connect to the internet just fine. But now when I connect my LAN cable, my PC gets some "Autoconfiguration IPv4 address" 169.254.110.154(Preferred) and I cannot connect to the internet. Here is the ipconfig /all output for ethernet port: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Marvell Yukon 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : <<MAC DISPLAYED HERE>> DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5054:a347:7d06:6e9a%11(Preferred) Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.110.154(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 285222078 DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-14-50-AC-68-54-42-49-EE-52-16 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled I also tried: Start a command prompt as admin. Run "netsh winsock reset" Run "netsh interface ipv4 reset" Run "netsh interface ipv6 reset" Restart your computer. All this does not work. Any idea to solve the problem?

    - by Martin
Physical machine: Mac Mini running OSX 10.7.5 Virtual machine: Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon 64-bit Using VirtualBox. I am trying to make the linux connect to the internet. For some reason I can access the host computer with 192.168.2.100. Its set up to show me a web-page that says "It works". This I can see from the linux. But I cannot reach anything on the internet. Either FireFox says "Unable to connect" or when I run nslookup google.com I get connection timed out; no servers could be reached. My setting on VirtualBox under the Network tab are: Bridge Adapter vnic0 promiscouos Mode:Allow All`. If it makes a difference, the host has a WiFi connection to the home router. What have I missed?

  • ASP Guidance - Development on laptop with limited internet access (nonhosted)

    - by Joshua Enfield
I am fairly experienced with the .NET family of languages, as well as web development (from a PHP perspective.) I am home for winter break and have limited internet access but would like to learn ASP using C#. Am I able to do development for ASP (and see the results) for free on my laptop (with no internet access), and if so what tools do I need? Ideally I'd like to do development in Visual Studio and see the results in my browser via localhost. Extra tools I might need would be helpful as well.

  • Windows Internet Connection sharing with Mobile Broadband

    - by PaoloFCantoni
Due to circumstances, I have only got mobile broadband where I am living. I have a small network with a ADSL Router (but which isn't connected to the Internet. I want to use ICS to allow one machine (with the MBB modem) to act as the Internet interface and allow other machines connected to the ADSL router (including a new Android tablet by WiFi) to use the single mobile broadband connection. I've a feeling that my configuration is not valid - as it stands, but I'm not sure. Can some kind soul lead me "by the nose" to getting this working? FWIW The mahcines are all running Windows 7 TIA, Paolo

  • Losing WLAN connections but maintaining internet connections on WIndows 7 Workgroup

    - by Di
I have 4 computers all running Windows 7 networked in a Work group through Billion 7404vgp-m wireless router. All drivers and firmware for wireless adapters and router are up to date. Windows Firewall and Defender disabled. Disconnected ipv6. Running Nod 32 anti virus software. All have own static IP address 192.XXX.X.XXX. When I Reset the router all computers have Internet and LAN access for about 1 hour and then they will lose the LAN connection but maintain Internet connection. Resetting wireless adapters or restarting computers does nothing to fix this but resetting router will. What is causing this? How do I fix it?

  • How to connect to internet 2 or more pcs with an usb wifi adapter

    - by bhaoahd
In one pc I have an USB Wifi adapter (Realtek RTL8187L Chipset), from there a 10 meters cable to an outdoor antenna. With that I connect to a public Access Point. Now I want to be able to connect more computers to internet using that same connection that comes from the outdoor antenna, what options do I have to do this? I do have another usb wifi adapter with a small omni antenna, and a router encore ENHWI-G/A. This router can be used as a Wifi AP, but it needs a modem that works with the RJ45 connector. Is there a way I could take internet from the outdoor antenna, and create another AP indoor using that router to "repeat" that wifi that comes from the outdoor antenna? If creating this second AP is not possible, should I use some sort of local network between computers, connect my main PC with the outdoor antenna, and share the connection through the lan? (I would really prefer to have a second AP indoor so I can connect other devices like a Palm, but I am not sure how could this be possible with this router and the usb wifi adapter)

  • Network not detected, but internet working

    - by Dave
I am using a brand new HP computer with Windows 7 64 bit. When I first hooked it up it detected my network (hooked up through ethernet) easily. However, after I uninstalled Norton Internet Security, it stopped being able to detect my home network. I can still use the internet as if connected, but I can't go into the network options to communicate with other computers. I had this same problem on Windows Vista on my previous computer. Is there any way to fix this so it detects the network?

  • Use LAN to interface Synergy while having WiFi connected to internet

    - by freonix
Similar question and solution I have LAN and WiFi connection, with the WiFi connected to internet and the LAN is simply connected via an Ethernet cable between two computers. I need to get Synergy working without compromising the WiFi internet. I've tried the solution above but couldn't seem to work. Both of the computer are running Windows XP. Even setting the LAN IP to static and under the same subnet doesn't seem to work. Anyone with similar situation and got Synergy to work? edit : Refined the question for clarity. Also, the computer are able to ping each other. Remote desktop can be accessed as well. I suspect the problem lies in Synergy's configuration.

  • Configure Virtualbox guest with static IP, SSH and internet access from host

    - by koskoz
I have an Ubuntu Server 12 virtualbox guest running on a Windows 7 host which has a dynamic IP (and I don't wanna change this considering it's a laptop and I'm changing network frenquently). I want to have a static IP for my VM and a SSH access from my host but I still want to have the internet access on my VM. I tried added a second host only adapter and configured /etc/network/interface to set eth1 to a static ip, but I can't connect via SSH to it. Setting only adapter1 to host only works for SSH and static IP but I lose the internet access.
