  • Adding a CLI for PHP5 on live server

    I want to add command-line support for PHP5 on my server. When I run aptitude install php5-cli I get a message saying that my PHP modules/packages have unmet dependencies. Here is a list of packages that suffer from these "unmet dependencies" and needs and upgrade: php5-gd php5-curl php5-mysql php5-cgi They all depend on php5-common. Can I upgrade the packages just like aptitude suggests without causing any disruptions to the live site? Output from aptitude Reading package lists...   • ASP.NET MVC Postbacks and HtmlHelper Controls ignoring Model Changes

    So here's a binding behavior in ASP.NET MVC that I didn't really get until today: HtmlHelpers controls (like .TextBoxFor() etc.) don't bind to model values on Postback, but rather get their value directly out of the POST buffer from ModelState. Effectively it looks like you can't change the display value of a control via model value updates on a Postback operation. To demonstrate here's an example. I have a small section in a document where I display an editable email address: This is what the form displays on a GET operation and as expected I get the email value displayed in both the textbox and plain value display below, which reflects the value in the mode. I added a plain text value to demonstrate the model value compared to what's rendered in the textbox. The relevant markup is the email address which needs to be manipulated via the model in the Controller code. Here's the Razor markup: <div class="fieldcontainer"> <label> Email: &nbsp; <small>(username and <a href="http://gravatar.com">Gravatar</a> image)</small> </label> <div> @Html.TextBoxFor( mod=> mod.User.Email, new {type="email",@class="inputfield"}) @Model.User.Email </div> </div>   So, I have this form and the user can change their email address. On postback the Post controller code then asks the business layer whether the change is allowed. If it's not I want to reset the email address back to the old value which exists in the database and was previously store. The obvious thing to do would be to modify the model. Here's the Controller logic block that deals with that:// did user change email? if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(oldEmail) && user.Email != oldEmail) { if (userBus.DoesEmailExist(user.Email)) { userBus.ValidationErrors.Add("New email address exists already. Please…"); user.Email = oldEmail; } else // allow email change but require verification by forcing a login user.IsVerified = false; }… model.user = user; return View(model); The logic is straight forward - if the new email address is not valid because it already exists I don't want to display the new email address the user entered, but rather the old one. To do this I change the value on the model which effectively does this:model.user.Email = oldEmail; return View(model); So when I press the Save button after entering in my new email address ([email protected]) here's what comes back in the rendered view: Notice that the textbox value and the raw displayed model value are different. The TextBox displays the POST value, the raw value displays the actual model value which are different. This means that MVC renders the textbox value from the POST data rather than from the view data when an Http POST is active. Now I don't know about you but this is not the behavior I expected - initially. This behavior effectively means that I cannot modify the contents of the textbox from the Controller code if using HtmlHelpers for binding. Updating the model for display purposes in a POST has in effect - no effect. (Apr. 25, 2012 - edited the post heavily based on comments and more experimentation) What should the behavior be? After getting quite a few comments on this post I quickly realized that the behavior I described above is actually the behavior you'd want in 99% of the binding scenarios. You do want to get the POST values back into your input controls at all times, so that the data displayed on a form for the user matches what they typed. So if an error occurs, the error doesn't mysteriously disappear getting replaced either with a default value or some value that you changed on the model on your own. Makes sense. Still it is a little non-obvious because the way you create the UI elements with MVC, it certainly looks like your are binding to the model value:@Html.TextBoxFor( mod=> mod.User.Email, new {type="email",@class="inputfield",required="required" }) and so unless one understands a little bit about how the model binder works this is easy to trip up. At least it was for me. Even though I'm telling the control which model value to bind to, that model value is only used initially on GET operations. After that ModelState/POST values provide the display value. Workarounds The default behavior should be fine for 99% of binding scenarios. But if you do need fix up values based on your model rather than the default POST values, there are a number of ways that you can work around this. Initially when I ran into this, I couldn't figure out how to set the value using code and so the simplest solution to me was simply to not use the MVC Html Helper for the specific control and explicitly bind the model via HTML markup and @Razor expression: <input type="text" name="User.Email" id="User_Email" value="@Model.User.Email" /> And this produces the right result. This is easy enough to create, but feels a little out of place when using the @Html helpers for everything else. As you can see by the difference in the name and id values, you also are forced to remember the naming conventions that MVC imposes in order for ModelBinding to work properly which is a pain to remember and set manually (name is the same as the property with . syntax, id replaces dots with underlines). Use the ModelState Some of my original confusion came because I didn't understand how the model binder works. The model binder basically maintains ModelState on a postback, which holds a value and binding errors for each of the Post back value submitted on the page that can be mapped to the model. In other words there's one ModelState entry for each bound property of the model. Each ModelState entry contains a value property that holds AttemptedValue and RawValue properties. The AttemptedValue is essentially the POST value retrieved from the form. The RawValue is the value that the model holds. When MVC binds controls like @Html.TextBoxFor() or @Html.TextBox(), it always binds values on a GET operation. On a POST operation however, it'll always used the AttemptedValue to display the control. MVC binds using the ModelState on a POST operation, not the model's value. So, if you want the behavior that I was expecting originally you can actually get it by clearing the ModelState in the controller code:ModelState.Clear(); This clears out all the captured ModelState values, and effectively binds to the model. Note this will produce very similar results - in fact if there are no binding errors you see exactly the same behavior as if binding from ModelState, because the model has been updated from the ModelState already and binding to the updated values most likely produces the same values you would get with POST back values. The big difference though is that any values that couldn't bind - like say putting a string into a numeric field - will now not display back the value the user typed, but the default field value or whatever you changed the model value to. This is the behavior I was actually expecting previously. But - clearing out all values might be a bit heavy handed. You might want to fix up one or two values in a model but rarely would you want the entire model to update from the model. So, you can also clear out individual values on an as needed basis:if (userBus.DoesEmailExist(user.Email)) { userBus.ValidationErrors.Add("New email address exists already. Please…"); user.Email = oldEmail; ModelState.Remove("User.Email"); } This allows you to remove a single value from the ModelState and effectively allows you to replace that value for display from the model. Why? While researching this I came across a post from Microsoft's Brad Wilson who describes the default binding behavior best in a forum post: The reason we use the posted value for editors rather than the model value is that the model may not be able to contain the value that the user typed. Imagine in your "int" editor the user had typed "dog". You want to display an error message which says "dog is not valid", and leave "dog" in the editor field. However, your model is an int: there's no way it can store "dog". So we keep the old value. If you don't want the old values in the editor, clear out the Model State. That's where the old value is stored and pulled from the HTML helpers. There you have it. It's not the most intuitive behavior, but in hindsight this behavior does make some sense even if at first glance it looks like you should be able to update values from the model.   • Downgrade form php5 5.3.10 to php5 5.3.2 in ubuntu 12.04

  • Send files ending in .mp4 in Apache with HTTP 206 Partial Content

    I am using Apache as web server and the return code is always HTTP/1.1 200. I want to set some kind of handler or use a mod to return HTTP/1.1 206 when the extension of the file requested is .mp4 so it can do video seeking, my web server is already returning some headers to do seeking, but it doesn't work. Is this possible?   • Excel 2007 Conditional Formatting is not properly using custom formula provided

    In Excel 2007, I want to conditionally color a row if it is odd numbered and then vary the coloring depending on if a specific cell (in column E) in that row contains a number (green) or empty(red). E.g. if E15 has a value of 2 and E13 has no entry, I would expect row 15 to be green and row 13 to be red. My two formulas are: To color red: =IF((MOD(ROW(),2) = 1),NOT(ISNUMBER(INDIRECT("$E$"&ROW()))), FALSE) To color green: =IF((MOD(ROW(),2) = 1),ISNUMBER(INDIRECT("E"&ROW())), FALSE) If I paste these formulas into cells on the worksheet I get the expected values. For row 15 the "red" equation is false and the "green" equation is true. For Row 13 the "red" equation is true and the "green equation is false. However if I use these formulas in the conditional formating use formula feature, all of my rows are red, any thoughts?

    I am recently working on a project aiming at evaluating whether an android app crashes or not. The evaluation process is 1.Collect the logs(which record the execution process of an app). 2.Generate formulas to predict the result (formulas is generated by GP) 3.Evaluate the logs by formulas Now I can produce formulas, but for convenience for users, I want to translate formulas into form of natural language and tell users why crash happened.(I think it looks like "inverse natural language processing".) To explain the idea more clearly, imagine you got a formula like this: 155 - count(onKeyDown) >= 148 It's obvious that if count(onKeyDown) 7, the result of "155 - count(onKeyDown) = 148" is false, so the log contains more than 7 onKeyDown event would be predicted "Failed". I want to show users that if onKeyDown event appears more than 7 times(155-148=7), this app will crash. However, the real formula is much more complicated, such as: (< !( ( SUM( {Att[17]}, Event[5]) <= MAX( {Att[7]}, Att[0] >= Att[11]) OR SUM( {Att[17]}, Event[5]) > MIN( {Att[12]}, 734 > Att[19]) ) OR count(Event[5]) != 1 ) > (< count(Att[4] = Att[3]) >= count(702 != Att[8]) + 348 / SUM( {Att[13]}, 641 < Att[12]) mod 587 - SUM( {Att[13]}, Att[10] < Att[15]) mod MAX( {Att[13]}, Event[2]) + 384 > count(Event[10]) != 1)) I tried to implement this function by C++, but it's quite difficult, here's the snippet of code I am working right now.   • rsync -c -i flags identical files as different

    My goal: given a list of files on local server, show any differences to the files with the same absolute path on remote server; e.g. compare local /etc/init.d/apache to same file on remote server. "Difference" for me means different checksum. I don't care about file modification times. I also do not want to sync the files (yet); only show the diffs. I have rsync 3.0.6 on both local and remote servers, which should be able to do what I want. However, it is claiming that local and remote files, even with identical checksums, are still different. Here's the command line: $ rsync --dry-run -avi --checksum --files-from=/home/me/test.txt --rsync-path="cd / && rsync" / me@remote:/ where: "me" = my username; "remote" = remote server hostname current working directory is '/' test.txt contains one line reading "/etc/init.d/apache" OS: Linux 2.6.9 Running cksum on /etc/init.d/apache on both servers yields the same result. The files are the same. However, rsync output is: me@remote's password: building file list ... done .d..t...... etc/ cd+++++++++ etc/init.d/ <f+++++++++ etc/init.d/apache sent 93 bytes received 21 bytes 20.73 bytes/sec total size is 2374 speedup is 20.82 (DRY RUN) The output codes (see http://www.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync.html) mean that rsync thinks /etc is identical except for mod time /etc/init.d needs to be changed /etc/init.d/apache will be sent to the remote server I don't understand how, with --checksum option, and the files having identical checksums, that rsync should think they're different. (I've tried with other files having identical mod times, and those files are not flagged as different.) I did run this in /, and made sure (AFAIK) that it's run remotely in /, so even relative pathnames will still be correct. I ran rsync with -avvvi for more debug info, but saw nothing remarkable. I'm wondering: is rsync still looking at file mod times, even with --checksum? am I somehow not setting up the path(s) right? what am I doing wrong?

  • Trouble migrating Joomla from Linux to Windows server

    I'm having some trouble migrating a Joomla website from a Linux server to a Windows server. The database came over fine, Besides that, all I've done is download all the files from the current site, and change configuration.php so the log and tmp directories show "./tmp/" and "./logs/" I keep having an error in the PHP log stating PHP Fatal error: Class 'JTable' not found I've downloaded the site multiple times now, and I'm convinced this is a configuration problem, and not a missing file problem. I've even tried installing a mod for backup on the linux box to try and migrate the site, but sadly the mod had problems installing. The new server is running IIS 7.5 on Windows Web Server.   • Can higher-order functions in FP be interpreted as some kind of dependency injection?

    According to this article, in object-oriented programming / design dependency injection involves a dependent consumer, a declaration of a component's dependencies, defined as interface contracts, an injector that creates instances of classes that implement a given dependency interface on request. Let us now consider a higher-order function in a functional programming language, e.g. the Haskell function filter :: (a -> Bool) -> [a] -> [a] from Data.List. This function transforms a list into another list and, in order to perform its job, it uses (consumes) an external predicate function that must be provided by its caller, e.g. the expression filter (\x -> (mod x 2) == 0) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10] selects all even numbers from the input list. But isn't this construction very similar to the pattern illustrated above, where the filter function is the dependent consumer, the signature (a -> Bool) of the function argument is the interface contract, the expression that uses the higher-order is the injector that, in this particular case, injects the implementation (\x -> (mod x 2) == 0) of the contract. More in general, can one relate higher-order functions and their usage pattern in functional programming to the dependency injection pattern in object-oriented languages? Or in the inverse direction, can dependency injection be compared to using some kind of higher-order function?

  • Issues with configuration of Apache and mod_auth_sspi

    I've been able to get this working using XAMP with Apache 2.0.55 and XAMP Apache 2.2.14 without any problems. However, when I attempt to configure our intranet server (Apache 2.0.59), I don't get the same results. The results are that the following variables contain the information desired: $_SERVER["REMOTE_USER"] AND $_SERVER["PHP_AUTH_USER"]. In this case, they are blank. I'm expecting "domain/user_name".   • TileEntitySpecialRenderer only renders from certain angle

    I'm developing a Minecraft mod with Forge. I've added a tileentity and a custom renderer for it. The problem is: The block is only visible from sertain angles. I've compaed my code to other peoples code and it looks pretty much like them. The block is opaque and not to be rendered and the renderer is registered normally so the fault must be in the renderer.   • Not sure I am using inheritance/polymorphism issue?

    So for this assignment I have to create a car class(parent) and a certifiedpreowned (child) and I need to have the parent class have a method to check if it is still under warranty. *checkWarrantyStatus(). that method calls the boolean isCoveredUnderWarranty() to veryify if the car still has warranty. My issue is in the certifiedpreowned class I have to call the isCoveredUnderWarranty() as well to see if it is covered under the extended warranty and then have it be called via the checkWarrantyStatus() in the car method. I hope this makes sense. So to sum it up I need to in the child class have it check the isCoveredUnderWarranty with extended warranty info. Then it has to move to the parent class so it can be called via checkWarrantyStatus.     I've registered xdebug in php.ini (as per http://xdebug.org/docs/install) but it's not showing up when i run "php -m" or when i get a test page to run "phpinfo()". I've just installed the latest version of XAMPP. Can anyone provide any suggestions in getting xdebug to show up?   • Multiple SVN repos on Debian HTTPd vhost setup

    I would like to have my svn/http server setup so I can access multiple repositories via a "svn" subdomain: https://svn.example.com/repo1 https://svn.example.com/repo2 I am using Debian 6, and already have multiple vhosts set up via the standard sites-available method. Resources and their problems: How To: subversion SVN with Apache2 and DAV This one doesn't deal with a server with multiple vhosts. Installing and Configuring Subversion This one only considers one subversion repository. This one does show putting the SVN DAV <Location> in the svn vhost file. However, it doesn't say whether to put it inside or outside the <VirtualHost> tag. Does this really limit the subversion access to just that vhost? I just tried, and can access /foorepo from any subdomain. Setting Up Subversion And Trac As Virtual Hosts On An Ubuntu Server This one appears to be very close, but I can still access repos from any vhost. In other words, it doesn't matter what subdomain I specify, as long as the path matches the repo name. Doesn't make any sense. And yes, my <Location> tag is inside the <VirtualHost>. A lot of these articles seem to have been written in 2006 or earlier, and don't necessarily conform to the configuration methods that newer distros are using. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

    i am having issues with xampp running on windows 7 RC32 i type in a localhost and get a header back only, no page content somedays it works fine, other days i can't get it to work after multiple attempts, reboot or otherwise the request doesn't even get put into the acccess log which seems unusual here is the log file at startup incase that helps any ideas ??   • Subversion all or nothing access to repo tree

    I'm having some problems setting up access to my Subversion repositories on a Linux server. The problem is that I can only seem to get an all-or-nothing structure going. Either everyone gets read access to everything or noone gets read or write access to anything. The setup: SVN repos are located in /www/svn/repoA,repoB,repoC... Repositories are served by Apache, with Locations defined in etc/httpd/conf.d/subversion.conf as: <Location /svn/repoA> DAV svn SVNPath /var/www/svn/repoA AuthType Basic AuthName "svn repo" AuthUserFile /var/www/svn/svn-auth.conf AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/www/svn/svn-access.conf Require valid-user </Location> <Location /svn/repoB> DAV svn SVNPath /var/www/svn/repoB AuthType Basic AuthName "svn repo" AuthUserFile /var/www/svn/svn-auth.conf AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/www/svn/svn-access.conf Require valid-user </Location> ... svn-access.conf is set up as: [/] * = [/repoA] * = userA = rw [/repoB] * = userB = rw But checking out URL/svn/repoA as userA results in Access Forbidded. Changing it to [/] * = userA = r [/repoA] * = userA = rw [/repoB] * = userB = rw gives userA read access to ALL repositories (including repoB) but only read access to repoA! so in order for userA to get read-write access to repoB i need to add [/] userA = rw which is mental. I also tried changing Require valid-user to Require user userA for repoA in subversion.conf, but that only gave me read access to it. I need a way to default deny everyone access to every repository, giving read/write access only when explicitly defined. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I have spent a couple of hours testing and googling but come up empty, so now I'm doing the post of shame.

I know that authentication with LDAP works, since my apache logs show my usernames: 10.1.1.126 - tore [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 200 339 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - - [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - readonly [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...) line = user in group dev-rw, 2. line is unauthenticated user, 3. line is unauthenticated user, authenticated as a user in group dev-ro So I think I've messed up my apache config. (Or, at least how can I confirm that just to make sure that's not the issue. I have the SysinternalsSuite ADExplorer. It's where I'm getting all of my info.)

Staff must be able to access the top-level directory and all subdirectories within it, but I want to restrict access to subdirectories using alternate htpasswd files. [301, #0] My question: Can I restrict access to Subversion subdirectories using Apache access controls? DocumentRoot is commented out, so it's not clear that the FAQ at http://subversion.apache.org/faq.html#http-301-error applies.

  • How do I install mod_dav_svn module on an Apache / MAMP server?

    How do I install additional modules into my server configuration? Currently all of the other modules are installed in /Applications/MAMP/Library/modules...and I see that they are mod_*.so source files, but I cannot seem to get mine to end up here... :? I am trying to set up an SVN repository and use my Apache (MAMP) server to serve the repository. I am using the subversion installation that came (pre-installed?) on Mac OS X 10.5. The repository is working, but I cannot access it remotely through my MAMP server using a client program (Dreamweaver CS5). When I try, I get an error from Dreamweaver, saying: Cannot connect to host xxx: Connection refused. This, I believe, is because I have not properly configured my Apache server to serve the svn repository. So, I added the following lines to my httpd.conf file: <Location /subversion> DAV svn SVNPath /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/svn/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repository" AuthUserFile /applications/mamp/htdocs/.htpasswd Require ServerAdmin </Location> Restarted the server with the command $ /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/apachectl -k restart I used this path because otherwise the default apachectl path is set to /usr/sbin/apachectl, which is the location of the pre-installed command on Mac OS X, since the OS comes packaged with a built-in Apache server. And I get the error: Syntax error on line 1153 of /Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf: Unknown DAV provider: svn I checked the upper portion of httpd.conf and see that dav_module (mod_dav.so) is loaded and is in fact in my the modules directory of my server. However, mod_dav_svn is not installed in that directory nor is it in the LoadModule portion of httpd.conf. So I need to install it, right? I have tried installing modules into my MAMP server before but was never successful...because I don't know how to do it. Can someone please walk me through how to install that module?     I have 2 groups of repositories, web and engineering. I setup web about 3 months ago and it works great, I'm trying to move engineering over to this same SVN server and I'm getting a PROPFIND of /svn/engineering/main: 405 Method Not Allowed error when I try to do a checkout.   • Accessing a webpage folder with .htaccess in it via apache webdav?

    I have setup webdav access in order to enable an external user to upload the content of his web page to his folder on my server that is served by apache to the web. This way he could update his web page via webdav. Now the problem is that the user requires a .htaccess file and of course .htaccess breaks webdav probably because it overrides settings. (new files cannot be uploaded anymore via webdav if below specified .htaccess exists) I am running Apache2.2.17 and this is my webdav config: Alias /folderDAV "d:/wamp/www/somewebsite/" <Location /folderDAV> Order Allow,Deny Allow from all Dav On AuthType Digest AuthName DAV-upload AuthUserFile "D:/wamp/passtore/user.passwd" AuthDigestProvider file require valid-user </Location> This config is part of my naive solution to fixing this problem. The idea was to specify an alias to the web page folder where webdav would be enabled and then set AllowOverride to none so that the .htaccess would have no effect. Of course I then found out that in <Location /> AllowOverride directive is not valid. The .htaccess file looks like this: #opencart settings Options +FollowSymlinks Options -Indexes <FilesMatch "\.(tpl|ini)"> Order deny,allow Deny from all </FilesMatch> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)\?*$ index.php?_route_=$1 [L,QSA] ErrorDocument 403 /403.html deny from 1.1.1.1/19 allow from 2.2.2.2 What would be the solution here? Also if possible I would like a solution that permits the existence of the .htaccess so that the user still has the power to setup access rules for his web page.
