• Kansas City SQL Saturday 2012: BBQ Crawl

  The next Kansas City SQL Saturday is coming up on August 4th.  We’ll have the usual SQL Saturday goodness: lots of technical sessions, great networking events and a fantastic speaker dinner.  And we’ll have the Third Annual Kansas City SQL Saturday BBQ Crawl.  On Friday afternoon we’ll visit a few BBQ places in town.  We tend to order big sampler plates and just share everything around.  It’s a great way to try a variety of styles.  This year we’ll be hitting an all new selection of BBQ joints. You don’t need to be a speaker to attend.  However the call for speakers is open until June 28th (hint, hint).  Locals and out-of-towners are all welcome. If you’re interested in attending send me an email and I’ll get you added to the list. We finish in plenty of time to get you to the speaker dinner – as if you could eat any more.

It was a pleasure for me to be back in Bangkok again even though I didn't have much time again due to my overnight flight to Seoul after the workshop. But thanks for your questions - I will follow up as soon as I'm getting back home. And thanks to Francisco Alvarez, Oracle ACE Director from New Zealand, for inviting me. It was a pleasure presenting together with Francisco, Kamran Nagayev, Oracle ACE Director from Azerbaidjan and Tanakorn Tavornsasnavong from Bangkok. I have learned a lot during that day. • How do you live-migrate Hyper-V to Azure?

  I have a new install of Windows Server 2012 with the Hyper-V role setup and a couple VMs running along fat, dumb, and happy. I want to play with Azure hosting for VMs for a couple of stand-alone boxes. Is there anything special that I need to wire up to be able to live-migrate to Azure? I have the 90-day Azure trial account right now. Any special plumbing required? I have not found a lot of documentation about this yet. Everything I found points to manually copying the VHDs via command line and the Azure 2012 SDK.

It will also include a full history of the Cost Based Optimizer, so make sure you stick around for this one! • No user/password boxes on login screen after updates today (June 30, 2012)

  Just installed today's batch of updates, including new kernel 3.2.0-26 and rebooted. Now the screen just has a logo in the middle and "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS" in bottom left corner, but no box to choose which user to log in as, or to enter a password. CTRL-ALT-F1 gets me to a "login:" prompt, and I can log in - but I have no idea what to look at to find out what is wrong, or to fix this. Tried older kernels and recovery mode for current kernel - no joy, still no way to log into the graphics console.

• Cannot access Samba Share that is on Linux

  I have 3 virtual machines; Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and CentOS Linux. The Server is configured with active domain. The CentOS VM has a Samba Share which has rights for the domain Administrator. Now, the Windows Server 2012 DC can successfully locate the share, but cannot access it (with Admin) ? Is it not possible for the Server to have access to it has Domain Client Admin, not Server Admin ? Hope this is clear? Thanks
