• Acer aspire 5520 power light blinks no boot

  My laptop was working fine last night, I hibernated it and went to sleep. Got up, pressed the power button. The power light comes on for 4 seconds and the hdd light blinked a few times, then it turned off for a second then repeats the process. The only way to stop this process/power down is to remove the AC and take out the battery. It does not even reach a boot screen, nothing shows up on the screen, fan does not start. People on this forum has the same problem but they suggest to put the laptop in a oven and heat it (reflow). What could be the problem? Is there another solution other than a reflow? I dont feel like putting my motherboard in the oven.

• My Macbook Pro doesn't give any reaction when pressing the power button

  An hour ago I closed the display my Macbook Pro. it goes into sleep mode. After dinner I returned, opened the display and wanted to continue with my work, but I recognized it was switched off completely. I tried to press the power button and received nothing. I also noticed that the green light on the power supply plug which is plugged into my Macbook is off. Same thing with a power supply from the Mac of a friend of mine. What could I try? Some suggestions? What could be the problem here?? I already tried using the battery to start, no success, also taking the battery out completely, no success. Even if I press the small button for showing the current battery charge, none of the leds starts. It's like the Mac is completely dead.

• Fujitsu Siemens V6535 laptop doesn't wake up - crash when going into standby?

  I'm having trouble with my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens model V6535). It runs Windows 7, and after I upgraded from Vista I've noticed something that makes me really angry. When my laptop goes into Standby, the power LED changes to red and starts blinking (standby mode). When I push the power button to wake it up it, the blinking LED changes to green but nothing else happens. Nothing on the display, no HDD sound. When I press the power button for a few seconds and then try turn it on again, it doesn't display anything. I have to unplug the charger, shut it off, and power it on again without the power cable. Then it starts working. A few days ago I upgraded the BIOS to the newest version, but it doesn't help. Does anyone have any idea what can be wrong?

• How to Shutdown PC by Pressing Power Button

  I always Hibernate my PC. Sometimes when I boot, it does not recognize the mouse/keyboard or any USB devices. I've also setup it to go in sleep in 5 minutes. In that case I can't restart the PC so that USB starts working. When I press the Power button then it starts shutdown but asks confirmation twice one is for shutdown by force confirmation and then there is one more. When my USB is disabled I can't input these options. So I switch off the power. • How to disable the green power light on the Sony Vaio

  The Sony Vaio's green power light is extremely bright and very distracting! I can't even look at the screen without this power light being in my view!! Is there any way to disable it or reduce its intensity? Googling for "sony vaio disable green power light" (and similar combinations) didn't provide anything useful. I tried booting into the BIOS, but it didn't have an option for this. Also, the Viao Command Center didn't have any on it. I guess sticking a tape over the LED is the only option?   I have a desktop system installed with a 250 GB hdd (seagate sata II) this system is having a power supply of 500W (not sure if it is 650W but not more than that) the power supply is a local brand. Will it be safe to attach a second 250 GB sata II hdd on the same system. Safe in the sense that the system may not fall short of power at any time. My system's config is as follows Core2Duo processor Mercury cabinet having an additional fan (small one) sata dvd writer 52X windows xp sp 2 ASUS motherboard (intel G965 express chipset) If the above specified power supply is not sufficient for above configuration of system then please suggest the appropriate power supply (including watts)

  Hello I have a question for HP Pavilion dv6000 owners. If your laptop is powered down, and you press the QuickPlay button or the DVD button (NOT the power button), does the laptop start up? More info: I am asking this because I have got a hold of a broken HP dv6000. If I power it up, the power light lights up, and then the laptop powers down. It seems to be because of a broken motherboard. But the laptop does the same thing if you press the QuickPlay or DVD buttons, and I want to know if that's supposed to happen, or if it's something else that is wrong.

• Bios wont post unless I restart power supply.

  I have an annoying problem with a computer. The BIOS wont post after it has been turned off and started again unless I turn the switch off/on on the power supply. The fans, cdrom hdd and everything starts running but the bios never beeps and the monitor stays black. I HAVE TRIED: reinstalling windows xp, flashed bios to latest, cmos clear, new power supply, other hdd, new memory sticks, graphics card. I also removed the motherboard from the computer case and laid it on a cardboard box and only connected the PSU, RAM and CPU. Other than this the computer works great but its annoying having to off/on the power supply switch before turning it on after its been off. My guess is that the motherboard is faulty but I would just like to hear what you guys think. Sorry for my english / Remy

• Pentium 4 Computer Won't Power Up

  I have a faulty Pentium 4 workstation with data that I would like to retrieve. Here are the symptoms & what I've done so far: Machine is totally dead. Motherboard LED is lit but that is the only sign of life. I have replaced the power supply and bypassed the on/off switch. Tried a PC Analyzer motherboard tester but didn't have any power to the card. Unpluggged the P4 cable from the motherboard, hit the on/off switch, the power supply fan comes on and I get codes from the analyzer but nothing that seems to be of any value. Machine does not boot. Will not shut down by hitting the switch. Bad motherboard or could it be a bad CPU cooling fan?

Is there something silly I have missed in a rush? I forgot to mention that I am running an Ubuntu machine.

• Computer doesn't start at all

  I have a desktop computer that won't start at all, I had it for years, and now suddenly when I press the power button I get no beeps, no fans spinning, no hard disk spinning. And the amazing thing that it sometimes works when I press the power button and every thing works normally. Sometimes it works after an hour, 10 hours or 10 minutes after I press the power button and this problem happens when electricity goes out and comes back. If I managed to turn the computer and no power outage happened. I am able to keep turning it on. But when the electricity goes off and on. And I press the power button it may turn on after an hour, two, 10 or not at all.

• Some guest networking and VMware Tools functionality broken with Sprint SmartView on the host

  Using VMware Workstation 6.5.3 on Vista 64-bit. I started having problems with VMware networking about 6 months ago after upgrades to Sprint SmartView. I did not have problems previously, but I don't know if that is because I was lucky. The main symptoms of the problem when SmartView is installed are: I can no longer drag files from the host to copy them to the guest. When they are dragged, the disallowed cursor (the circle with a slash) shows in the guest. If I try to enable shared folders in the guest while it is running, I will not be able to see the shared files and will be informed that networking is not working. I can still ping guests from the host and I can still access network services via NAT most of the time when connected via my USB broadband adapter. When I configure shared folders so they are "always enabled" (with a mapped drive), I can access files on the via the mapped folders. I can also copy the file on the host and then paste it in the guest, as was suggested in some other threads concerning drag-and-drop problems that I found. The VMware Tools icon is showing in all cases and I don't see any obvious errors in the host's event viewer. If I uninstall SmartView, the problems disappear. If SmartView (current version is 2.28.0082) is reinstalled I will experience the same problems. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling VMware and SmartView in various ways but it appears tha these problems are consistent when SmartView is installed (not just when it is running or connected, but when it is present on the system). I'm wondering if this is a combination of software (WS 6.5.3, Vista64, and SmartView) that works for other people, which would indicate a problem that is peculiar to my configuration.

• svn connection timeout

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 running in virtual box inside Windows 7. I have the network adapter set as NAT and everything networking wise seems to be running smoothly (internet / git ect.). However, for some reason, svn always times out when i.e michael@michael-VirtualBox:~/Documents/deleteme$ svn co svn://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk/ svn: Can't connect to host 'svn.openwrt.org': Connection timed out Somebody suggested to me that I might need to change what ports svn uses. Does anybody have any idea how to diagnose / solve the problem? Thanks!

  There are a number of database utilities supplied with the installation of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework based products. These are typically run in interactive mode where the utility prompts you for the values and then executes the required functionality. Did you know that the utilities also have command line options that allow you to run the utility in silent mode as well? You can assess the command line options by specifying the -h option on the command line. Here is an example of the oragensec command line options: oragensec -d <Owner,OwnerPswd,DbName> -u <Database Users> -r <ReadRole,UserRole> -l <logfile> -h where: -d <Owner,OwnerPswd,DbName> Database connect information for the target database. e.g. spladm,spladm,DB200ODB. -u <Database Users> A comma-separated list of database users where synonyms need to be created. e.g. spluser, splread -r <ReadRole,UserRole> Optional. Names of database roles with read and read-write privileges. Default roles are SPL_READ, SPL_USER. e.g. spl_read,spl_user -l <logfile> Optional.   So, I am pretty new to the world of game development, so I am a bit fuzzy on what I require. Could someone suggest a game engine that I could use? I need it to be light weight (my game won't require that much power) and have networking functionality for multiplay or even an MMO aspect. • No more internet connection after update in 14.04 with Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260

  My Dell XPS 15 (haswell) was working fine until I stupidly accepted recently to apply Ubuntu updates. Since then, my wifi does not work (it shows "device not managed" when clicking wifi icon in toolbar). Even USB to Ethernet adapter does not seem to work.   Comparing sales and budget, or costs and budget, is a very common operation. However, it is often the case that you have different granularities for different tables containing budget and the data to compare with. There are two ways to do that: you can limit the comparison to the granularity that is common to the two tables, or you can allocate the budget where it’s not defined. For example, if you have a budget defined by quarter and category, you might want to allocate it by month and product. In this way, you will do the comparison as you had a more granular definition of the budget, without actually having to do the manual job of allocating data (usually in an Excel worksheet!). If you want to do budget allocation in DAX, you can use the Budget Patterns we published on DAX Patterns. If you come from and MDX/OLAP background, at first you might find it hard to solve the problem of not having attribute hierarchies that helps you in propagating the budget values to lower hierarchical levels. However, I think that once you get used to DAX, you will find the behavior very predictable and easy to “debug” also for more complex allocation formula. You just have to be careful in writing the DAX formula, but probably the pattern we wrote should help you designing the right data model, without creating physical relationships to the budget table! This pattern is also based on the Handling Different Granularities scenario I discussed a couple of weeks ago.

  There are lots of "lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions" in var/log/messages . I googled and find it is ipv6 releated, so I tried to disable ipv6. I added the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1 net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6=1 net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6=1 and blacklist ipv6 to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf after that, I restarted the network by /etc/init.d/networking restart . My question is: The ip addr still shows inet6 address attached to eth0 in forms like inet6 fe80::212:79ff:fecf:edaf/64 scope link Does it means my ipv6 not disabled?
