  I have a hybrid asp.net web forms / mvc application that I recently converted to .net 4 with mvc2. I have set-up that application to run on IIS 7.5 (on Windows 7) and the web forms part of the site is running okay but the MVC part is not. Whenever I try and access a page that needs to go through the routing engine I get HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 I'm debugging this web site through VS2010 (so I've set-it-up to use IIS instead of Cassini) and when I put a break point in the Application_Start function it is never hit so the routes are never registered. When I put a break point in the Page_Load function in one of the aspx page code-behinds it gets hit. So it seems that the problem is that the route is not being registered. What am I missing?

• trying to convert rails 2.3.4 app to rails 3 but views not appearing

  I have a simple rails 2.3.4 application I am trying to get running with rails 3.0.0-beta2. I have the server running and all my links and navigation showing, however for some reason the content of my views is not displaying. When I navigate to Site/index the html in my index.html.erb in my site view is completely ignored. There are no errors in the server log. My template is rendered properly (where all the links and navigation are being created) within application.html.erb however all of my actual view files are being ignored. Has anyone experienced this? I am using old style routing with map.connect, could this be the issue? Does anyone have a tutorial on how to convert old routes to new ones? I couldn't figure it out. my current routes look like this: map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' map.root :controller => :site, :action => :index

• How to set properties of a d:DesignInstance in XAML?

  I'm using the new d:DesignInstance feature of the 4.0 series WPF tools. Works great! Only issue I'm having is: how can I set properties on the instance? Given something like this: <Grid d:DataContext="{d:DesignInstance plugin:SamplePendingChangesViewModel, IsDesignTimeCreatable=True}"/> How can I set properties on the viewmodel, aside from setting them in its default ctor or routing it through some other object initializer? I gave this a try but VS gives errors on compile "d:DataContext was not found": <Grid> <d:DataContext> <d:DesignInstance IsDesignTimeCreatable="True"> <plugin:SamplePendingChangesViewModel ActiveTagIndex="2"/> </d:DesignInstance> </d:DataContext> For the moment I'm going back to using a resource and 'd:DataContext={StaticResource SampleData}', where I can set the properties in the resource. Is there a way to do it via a d:DesignInstance?

• Using Data Annotations on POCO's with MVC for Remote Validation

  Hi All, I am developing an ASP.NET MVC app and I've been looking into using Data Annotations on my POCO's which are defined in my Service Layer. As long as I have a reference to System.ComponentModel & System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations this is no problem and what I like about this is that it allows me to reuse my Service Layer in a Win Forms app. I'm now looking to do some Remote Validation using Data Annotations and have taken a look at this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff398048(VS.100).aspx However, to use the Data Annotations in this context I need to reference System.Web.MVC, System.Web and System.Web.Routing. This introduces a dependency on the Web DLL's, which limits me somewhat. Can anyone recommend a good clean way to implement Remote Data Validation using Data Annotations that isn't coupled with ASP.NET MVC or maybe suggest a better alternative. Thanks for the help !

• Where to use Controller.HttpContext

  Hi, In my base controller's constructor I am calling an extension method that checks for specific cookies on the client. Currently I am using System.Web.HttpContext.Current to get the current context. However, I am lead to believe that I should be using Controller.HttpContext since it is more testable and contains additional information about the request. However, Controller.HttpContext returns null on creation (believe this is by design) but also on Initialize and Execute methods (unless I use Routing.RequestContext.HttpContext?). So if I should be using Controller.HttpContext instead of HttpContext.Current, at what point is it available to me in a request? Thanks Ben

• openvpn: after changing to server mode, client does not create TUN device

• Python web devlopment framework for python 3.1 user

  I have been learning python for some time now. While starting this "learning python" endeavor I decided to learn the latest and greatest 3.1 version of python. I regret this decision now because I wanted to try my hands on some of the python web development frameworks & it looks like many of them does not support 3.1 yet & it looks like it might take them years to support the new version of Python especially Django and TurboGears. This is really disappointing. Therefore, SO users, do you have any recommendation for a web framework for me that runs on 3.1 and supports some of the modern (I guess I will never learn ;-)) web framework features like MVC/ORM/URL Routing/Caching etc. Many thanks for your response.

  Hello All, I am very new to ASP.NET MVC and currently, I am involved in developing a new application in ASP.NET MVC 2. I am having problem in managing a long querystring parameters that comes from dBase. For example, in any non-mvc app the following URL works well: http ://example.com/test.aspx?first_name=fname&last_name=lname&email_id=email&address1=add1&address2=add2&city=city&state=state&zip_code=zip and so on. The QueryString parameter can be determined on the fly (i.e. at run-time). Now for dynamic QueryString how routing will be done? Also for a simple URL, the URL will be as follows (in ASP.NET MVC): http ://example.com/test/id/category But for above mentioned dynamic & long QueryString how the URL will look like? • What's a good Minimal Server-Side Javascript Framework?

  So I was writing a web app with web.py that uses plenty of client-side javascript, and my database is on couchdb so the queries are in javascript too, and eventually I just got to thinking, why not skip the python and go all javascript? Besides, some functions need to run once on the client and again on the server to make sure you're not spoofing, so why translate between javascript and python? So I'm looking for a simple lightweight javascript web framework. All I really need is the url routing, request and response stuff (standard wsgi?), and a way to hook into a big http server like nginx. What do you guys recommend?

• Rewriting An URL With Regular Expression Substitution in Routes

  In my Pylons app, some content is located at URLs that look like http://mysite/data/31415. Users can go to that URL directly, or search for "31415" via the search page. My constraints, however, mean that http://mysite/data/000031415 should go to the same page as the above, as should searches for "0000000000031415." Can I strip leading zeroes from that string in Routes itself, or do I need to do that substitution in the controller file? If it's possible to do it in routing.py, I'd rather do it there - but I can't quite figure it out from the documentation that I'm reading.

  I have a rails model called 'audioclip'. I orginally created a scaffold with a 'new' action, which I replaced with 'new_record' and 'new_upload', becasue there are two ways to attach audio to this model. Going to /audioclips/new_record doesn't work because it takes 'new_record' as if it was an id. Instead of changing this, I was trying to just create '/record_clip' and '/upload_clip' paths. So in my routes.db I have: map.record_clip '/record_clip', :controller => 'audioclips', :action => 'new_record' map.upload_clip '/upload_clip', :controller => 'audioclips', :action => 'new_upload' When I navigate to /record_clip, I get ActionController::MethodNotAllowed Only get, head, post, put, and delete requests are allowed. I'm not extremely familiar with the inner-workings of routing yet. What is the problem here? (If it helps, I have these two statements above map.resources = :audioclips

  I'm coming to Java from C# & ASP.NET MVC, I'd love to find an equivalent in the Java world that I could use on the Google App Engine. I've already started to have a play with FreeMarker and even made the first steps towards writing a very simple framework. Ideally I wouldn't have to do all the hard work though, someone must have done this already! So my question is - what frameworks are there out there that would be familiar for me coming from ASP.NET MVC and I could use them on Google App Engine for Java. The key things I'd want are: Simple Routing - /products/view/1 gets mapped to the view action of the products controller with the productid of 1 Template Engine - some way of easily passing 'ViewData' to the view, and from the view easily accessing it, ideally I'd love to avoid anything that is too XMLy (thus why I like FreeMarker).

• MVC2: Best Way to Intercept ViewRequest and Alter ActionResult

  I'm building an ASP.NET MVC2 Web Application that requires some sophisticated authentication and business logic that cannot be achieved using the out of the box forms authentication. I'm new to MVC so bear with me... My plan was to mark all restricted View methods with one or more custom attributes (that contain additional data). The controller would then override the OnActionExecuting method to intercept requests, analyze the target view's attributes, and do a variety of different things, including re-routing the user to different places. I have the interception and attribute analysis working, but the redirection is not working as expected. I have tried setting the ActionExecutingContext.Result to null and even have tried spooling up controllers via reflection and invoking their action methods. No dice. • ASP.Net MVC per area membership

  I am building an ASP.Net MVC app that will run on a shared hosting account to host multiple domains. I started with the default template that includes membership and created an mvc area for each domain. Routing is set up to point to the correct area depending on the domain the request is for. Now I would like to set up membership specific to each mvc area. I tried the obvious first and attempted to override the section of the web.config for each area to change the applicationName attribute of the provider. That doesn't work since the area is not set up as an application root. Is there an easy way to separate the users for each area?

  Hi, I got a problem migrating from VS.Net 2008 / MVC 1 to VS.NET 2010 (+C# 4.0) / MVC 2 The web.config has been updated, the site runs well in Cassini, but my problem now is deploying on IIS 6. I updated the web site to run using ASP.Net 4, but whatever URL I try, I always have a 404 error. It's as if the routing was not taken into account (yes, the wildcard mapping has been done). I do not understand this mess and could not google anything interesting... Thanks for your suggestions ! O.

• Migrating Ruby Site from EngineYard to Heroku

  As part of a larger project I've been tasked with migrating some existing Ruby on Rails sites (built with an old version of refinerycms 0.9.6.34, at least that's the version listed in the Gemfile included with the source). I don't normally work with Ruby so I'm at a bit of a loss. The previous developers simply handed over the latest git dump as well as a db dump. I'm working first with trying to get the site up working locally on an Ubuntu 11.10 local machine before pushing up to at test Heroku install. If it's possible to just push directly to Heroku with the files they gave, then I can try that, but it's my understanding I need to get everything working and then use Heroku's tools to deploy. The previous devs said they're using ruby 1.8.7 so in Ubuntu I've done the following: aptitude install ruby1.8 ruby1.8-dev ruby1.8-full aptitude install rubygems1.8 I've restored the database and in the config directory I've made changes to the database.yml to point to the restored database.   I've tried the bare method and the T4MVC method but so far both are routing me to the current URL instead of the default path with no arguments for the following action: public virtual ActionResult Index(byte? location, int? sublocation) { } So when I try Url.Action("Index","Locations", new {location="", system=""}) if I'm at a location already this method returns the path to where I'm already at instead of the default path with no arguments. As does the following method with T4MVC. <input type="button" value="Go" style="display:none" onclick="window.location='<%= Url.Action(MVC.Controller.Index()) %>/'+$('input#location').val()+'/'+$('input#sublocation').val()+'/';" /> How can I get the default route with no arguments?

My understanding is (correct me then and there) 1 ) MVC does not support server side events ,but supports client side events.if it supports client side events,i need html page with jQuery/Javascript (view),but most of the example i absorbed is to display the information(model) in view ,i did not see any client side event handling happens in view. 2) Except ViewState and controlState,MVC supports Sessions,Application State management,Cache management. 3) When request goes to MVC engine ,the routing module routes the request that is picked up by the controller.The controller in executes the appropriate action and return the appropriate view.

  Hi, I switched from MVC 1 to MVC 2. I am using a file.axd httphandler in my application and I set routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); in my global routing. Since MVC 2 MVC only ignores requests to /file.axd but not to /folder/file.axd. Any changes in MVC 2? I just want to make sure that all requests in any folder to any .axd file will get processed by my httphandler. Thanks!
