  • Self-extracting Delphi program

    I'm writing an updater program in Delphi7 which will be run once, but needs many files to run. What I'd like the achieve: 1, User runs exe 2, Exe unpacks files, runs updater 3, If updater detects and error, prompts the user to send log in e-mail 4, After the updater is run, temporary files are deleted (some of these files are dlls used by the updater program, so the updater has to be closed before the files can be deleted) Can anyone recommend a good solution? I've thought about using Inno Setup (too complicated for such an easy task) or using a self-extracting zip file (but how to delete the files afterwards)? Thanks!

  • When are DNS "glue" (or "host") records needed?

    I kind of know why glue records are needed (cyclic dependencies), but when are they needed? Are they only needed when setting a domain's nameservers to my own machine on the internet - like "ns1.mydomainonmyserver.com" ?? Is there any need / point in making glue records when using external / hosting provider's nameservers? Beginner question sorry (T_T)

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. Can someone help me with this please?It is linux hosting with mysql database.

  • @font-face and CSS3 working locally but not on hosting

    Hello chaps and chapettes, I've got a bit of a strange one for you (so to speak). I've devised a little 'coming soon' page for my site which, locally, (on a WAMP setup) is working flawlessly - in capable browsers (i.e. Chrome and Safari), the page looks fine and has a nice little CSS3 transition effect upon hover. And in other browsers, the page visibly looks (practically) identical and the hover effect still works, just without the transition. After uploading to my hosting, the site still looks fine and works fine in Chrome and Safari, but for some reason in Firefox, the @font-face declarations don't seem to have worked and in IE the layout is slightly different. I'm massively puzzled! The files are identical on my hosting to what I have locally.     I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated.   • How can I set up a load balancer to direct all Search Engine Bot traffic to one server?

    We have a simple load balancer set up on Rackspace to 3 web server nodes. After reviewing our traffic and expenses, the largest bandwidth hog is Google Bot. Since on Rackspace we pay for bandwidth by the byte, we'd like to direct all traffic from GoogleBot to another host (MediaTemple) with unlimited bandwidth. We think this would cut our hosting bill several thousand dollars a month. Is this possible? Advisable?

  • What file or directory is unique to Plesk and unlikely to change in the future?

    I am writing a program that needs to be able to detect the presence of various web hosting control panels. I don't use Plesk, or have access to a server running Plesk, so I am unable to ascertain what file or directory I could test for to reliably conclude that the system is running Plesk. What file or directory indicates "Yes, this has Plesk installed" that is unlikely to ever change in the future, but would be present on all versions of Plesk out in the wild? Thanks in advance :)

In initial communication both client and server will exchange their certificates. Server has to verify clients certificate and should grant authentication. Where i struck was on what topic server can validate or invalidate a particular client..? I am unable to proceed from here. So please any of you can give brief explanation about it? if possible some Pseudocode in java..?

    quick one: Is it possible to capture the output stream of a WCF service that is hosted via ServiceHost ( self hosted service) ? I have methods within my WCF service that output useful debugging information, is it possible to send these to it's host's console output? Edit: It appears that I have made an obvious blunder - I was using Debug instead of Console. It is possible to output to the console by using the standard Console output commands in your WCF service class. I have marked the answer that I have found the most useful.

My original plan was to just use a dedicated server through Hostgator but from what I'm reading, Cloud hosting or Load balanced clustered is the best way to go for what Im trying to do.     Is there a way to use Log::Log4perl to make a smart self-logging module that logs its operations to a file even in the absence of the calling script not initializing Log4perl? As far as I can tell from the documentation, the only way to use Log4perl is to initialize it in the running script from a configuration, then modules implementing Log4perl calls log themselves based on the caller's Log4perl config. Instead, I'd like the modules to provide a default initialization config for Log4perl. This would provide the default file appender for the module's category. Then, I could override this behavior by initing Log4perl in the caller with a different config if needed, and everything would hopefully just work. Is this sort of defensive logging behavior possible or am I going to need to rely on initing Log4perl in every .pl script that calls the module I want logged?

  • Setting up Virtual Hosts with Apache on Windows 2008 server for multiple sites. Complicated setup, including subversion

    I am setting up apache on my windows 2008 server at my home. It will serve 2 functions. Subversion hosting to allow me and some others to manage company documents with version control Local website hosting for web development. Will need to run several websites since I generally work on more then one site at a time. Heres what I have done so far. I set up subversion and apache 2.2 using some walk troughs. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong?   • problem with application after moving from local to hosting server

    I have an application developed with CodeIgniter that works perfectly on my local server. After uploading it to the hosting server I've run into few issues that I can't figure out. I removed the index.php from URL by changing $config['index_page'] = "" in config.php file and adding rewriterule in .htaccess file. Everything worked fine on a local server. On hosting server the webstie wouldn't load until I reverted those changes to defaults. Now the strangest thing. I test the website and all pages load fine except of one. When I point to that page the browser responds with "Connection closed by remote server" (That's from Opera, other browser gave similar response). After closing the browser when I try to load the website again, now it won't even load any page showing me CodeIgniter's styled error "404 Page Not Found" What he heck?

    I'm building a UserControl in WPF. The control has two properties, Title and Description, that I'd like to bind to two textblocks. Seems real straightforward, and I got it working, but I'm curious about something. To get it to work I had to add this code: void CommandBlock_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { this.DataContext = this; } My bindings look like this: <TextBlock Text="{Binding Title}" Width="100" ... /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Description}" Width="100" ... /> What I'm wondering is how come I couldn't get it to work without the this.DataContext = this; and instead use DataContext="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" (in the UserControl element of the markup)? I'm sure I'm missing something about DataContexts but don't know what.
