  • "shutting down hyper-v virtual machine management service"

    I have a Windows 2008 R2 server that is a Hyper-V host (Dell PowerEdge T300). Today for the first time I encountered an odd situation; i lost connection with one of the guest machines but logging on physically it seems the guest OS is still running but no longer contactable via the network. I tried to shut down the guest machine (Windows XP) but it would not shut down, getting stuck in a "Not responding" dialog box that cannot be dismissed. I used the Hyper-V management console to reset the machine and it could not get out of resetting state. I tried to save another Windows 2003 guest machine, and it would be progress with its Saving state (0%). The other running Windows 2003 guest was stuck in the logon dialog. My first suspicion is perhaps one of the Windows update patches this week (10 Nov 2011) may something to do with it, which was still pending a system restart. Well, since I could not do anything with Hyper-V i proceeded with the Windows Update restart, and now it is stuck half an hour at "Shutting down hyper-v virtual machine management service" Prior to restarting I did not observe any hard disk errors reported in the system event log; doubt it is a disk-related condition. Shall I force a hard reboot? UPDATE As per answer report, it eventually restarted itself.

    Since we rebuilt our servers to windows servers 2008 x64 r2 we have perpetual problems with scheduled backup (shadow copy). In the Application event log, the following events are logged on both nodes: The description for Event ID 4112 from source TsmVssPlugin cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: VSS processing encountered error 'VSS_E_UNEXPECTED_PROVIDER_ERROR' in the Volume Shadow Copy API 'AddToSnapshotSet'. For more information, see the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client error log. Re installing TSM didn't change anything and still logging same events. TSM Error log file shows following: ANS1327W The snapshot operation for 'C:' failed with error code: -1. ANS5250E An unexpected error was encountered. TSM function name : BaStartSnapshot TSM function : initializeSnapshotSet() failed, check Microsoft Application event log for VSS errors TSM return code : -1

    Hi, I have backupassist and I attempt to run a backup, with VSS service running. However, I get this error in Windows Event Log: The backup operation that started at '?2010?-?04?-?30T01:51:15.601000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348129'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved. Code: 521. The error in backupassist is: The backup operation stopped before completing. Detailed error: ERROR - A Volume Shadow Copy Service operation error has occurred: (0x80042336) The writer experienced a partial failure. Check the component level error state for more information. I work in a company with server engineers, they all state of having no problems with 2008 and VSS (though in the company we use predominantly 2003).     Hi all Our ASp.net applications getting error as below" [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied " But i can connect with Enterprise manager management studio and Query analaizer with out any issue. It was running these applications with out any issue long time. last one week we are getting this error.If we restart the server .it works then it will come again after 3to 4 hours.     Hi, I am relatively new to databases,so please forgive me if my query sounds trivial. I need to send bulk email to all the contacts listed in a particular table. The body of the email is stored in a .doc file which begins as Dear Mr. _. The SQL server will read this file, append the last name of the contact in the blank space and send it to the corresponding email address for that last name. Any thoughts on how to proceed with this?     Hello, What should I do to avoid that commands be executed each time I hit 'Execute !. icon' I mean this USE master; GO CREATE DATABASE Sales GO USE Sales; GO CREATE TABLE Customers( CustomerID int NOT NULL, LName varchar (50) NOT NULL, FName varchar (50) NULL, Status varchar (10), ModifiedBy varchar (30) NULL ) GO When I click Execute!, Sql Server tries to redo the same thing. What I do for now is to delete the Query Window completely then write what I need before clicking the Execute icon. But, I doubt that I should be doing that. What can I do to keep writing the commands without having each time to clear the Query Window? Thanks for helping

    I'm writing a SQL statement to select a user on a table if that user does not exist on another table, then I want to pull in all their data from another table then I'll be outputting all that in Coldfusion. How do I do this? I have tried, my atempt is below: pro_profile == All employees mod_userStatus == All Professional Staff members I am doing the not exists to remove professional stuff to just get our student staff. mod_StudentCertifications is a listing of the certifications they (students) hold. If we do an AND statement between the where statements it returns no users, or only users that meet both conditions, if we do an OR it will return users with only 1 condition. I need it first Match the not exists then proceed to the exists statement. Is that do able? Using SQL Profiler I've audited for login events, but that appears to generate an event every time a SQL statement is executed even with apps that I know are maintaining their connection to SQL.

    After going thru some tutorials on SQL SERVER 2008's new feature SPARSE COLUMN, I have found that it doesn't take any space if the column value is 0 or null but when there is a value, it takes 4 times the space a regular(non sparse) column holds. If my understanding is correct, then why I will go for that at the time of database design? And if I use that, then at what situation so I be? Also out of curiosity, how come no space get's reserve when a column is defined as sparse column(I mean to say, what is the internal implementation for that) Thanks in advance

  • what's a good way to synchronize a sql server 2008 database from a 2005 database automatically?

    Ok, the scenario is... two servers, on completely different parts of the internet. The sql 2008 database just needs to get data updates and schema changes. It doesn't need to send anything to the 2005 database. Basically just suck data and schema as efficiently as possible automatically as a scheduled task. The database is quite huge.... but the changes per day are probablly around 20/30 megabytes of data/ I can't run any of the inbuilt replication on the 2005 database. I've had a wee look at the Sync Framework, I think that might do what I want, but seems a bit painful and requires a bit of work to get going. I'm wondering if there is tooling out there to make this easier? or?? not quite sure what my options are.

    Hi, I want to learn programming in SQL from some SQL tutorial sites of which I heard of here but I need some environment for executing query's. I think I have both SQL CE and SQL EE installed on my computer but I have some doubts about these DBMS and I don't know exactly how to use SQLCMD utility so I hope someone here will have time and will to explain me the following: Since running sqlcmd -S.\sqlexpress at command prompt command gives "1" prompt I assume I have SQL express installed but anyway how can I be sure what I have installed on my machine since I cannot find in installed programs SQL Express Edition name? Can I ship and use database with my C# (VC# Express) application which was created with SQL EE (embedded?)? How can use sqlcmd for learning SQL, that is by issuing commands like create, use, select..., again emphasize is on learning SQL I do not want to run scripts but use interactive command prompt like with MySQL (since I want to use SQL I would pretty much like to avoid graphical tools for DBMS)? Please tell me if you have some other advice regarding as to what should I better use in learning how to program in SQL or should I stick with the above for now. Thanks in advance.
