  • Log message Request and Response in ASP.NET WebAPI

    - by Fredrik N
    By logging both incoming and outgoing messages for services can be useful in many scenarios, such as debugging, tracing, inspection and helping customers with request problems etc.  I have a customer that need to have both incoming and outgoing messages to be logged. They use the information to see strange behaviors and also to help customers when they call in  for help (They can by looking in the log see if the customers sends in data in a wrong or strange way).   Concerns Most loggings in applications are cross-cutting concerns and should not be  a core concern for developers. Logging messages like this:   // GET api/values/5 public string Get(int id) { //Cross-cutting concerns Log(string.Format("Request: GET api/values/{0}", id)); //Core-concern var response = DoSomething(); //Cross-cutting concerns Log(string.Format("Reponse: GET api/values/{0}\r\n{1}", id, response)); return response; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } will only result in duplication of code, and unnecessarily concerns for the developers to be aware of, if they miss adding the logging code, no logging will take place. Developers should focus on the core-concern, not the cross-cutting concerns. By just focus on the core-concern the above code will look like this: // GET api/values/5 public string Get(int id) { return DoSomething(); } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } The logging should then be placed somewhere else so the developers doesn’t need to focus care about the cross-concern. Using Message Handler for logging There are different ways we could place the cross-cutting concern of logging message when using WebAPI. We can for example create a custom ApiController and override the ApiController’s ExecutingAsync method, or add a ActionFilter, or use a Message Handler. The disadvantage with custom ApiController is that we need to make sure we inherit from it, the disadvantage of ActionFilter, is that we need to add the filter to the controllers, both will modify our ApiControllers. By using a Message Handler we don’t need to do any changes to our ApiControllers. So the best suitable place to add our logging would be in a custom Message Handler. A Message Handler will be used before the HttpControllerDispatcher (The part in the WepAPI pipe-line that make sure the right controller is used and called etc). Note: You can read more about message handlers here, it will give you a good understanding of the WebApi pipe-line. To create a Message Handle we can inherit from the DelegatingHandler class and override the SendAsync method: public class MessageHandler : DelegatingHandler { protected override async Task<HttpResponseMessage> SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, CancellationToken cancellationToken) { return base.SendAsync(request, cancellationToken); } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   If we skip the call to the base.SendAsync our ApiController’s methods will never be invoked, nor other Message Handlers. Everything placed before base.SendAsync will be called before the HttpControllerDispatcher (before WebAPI will take a look at the request which controller and method it should be invoke), everything after the base.SendAsync, will be executed after our ApiController method has returned a response. So a message handle will be a perfect place to add cross-cutting concerns such as logging. To get the content of our response within a Message Handler we can use the request argument of the SendAsync method. The request argument is of type HttpRequestMessage and has a Content property (Content is of type HttpContent. The HttpContent has several method that can be used to read the incoming message, such as ReadAsStreamAsync, ReadAsByteArrayAsync and ReadAsStringAsync etc. Something to be aware of is what will happen when we read from the HttpContent. When we read from the HttpContent, we read from a stream, once we read from it, we can’t be read from it again. So if we read from the Stream before the base.SendAsync, the next coming Message Handlers and the HttpControllerDispatcher can’t read from the Stream because it’s already read, so our ApiControllers methods will never be invoked etc. The only way to make sure we can do repeatable reads from the HttpContent is to copy the content into a buffer, and then read from that buffer. This can be done by using the HttpContent’s LoadIntoBufferAsync method. If we make a call to the LoadIntoBufferAsync method before the base.SendAsync, the incoming stream will be read in to a byte array, and then other HttpContent read operations will read from that buffer if it’s exists instead directly form the stream. There is one method on the HttpContent that will internally make a call to the  LoadIntoBufferAsync for us, and that is the ReadAsByteArrayAsync. This is the method we will use to read from the incoming and outgoing message. public abstract class MessageHandler : DelegatingHandler { protected override async Task<HttpResponseMessage> SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, CancellationToken cancellationToken) { var requestMessage = await request.Content.ReadAsByteArrayAsync(); var response = await base.SendAsync(request, cancellationToken); var responseMessage = await response.Content.ReadAsByteArrayAsync(); return response; } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } The above code will read the content of the incoming message and then call the SendAsync and after that read from the content of the response message. The following code will add more logic such as creating a correlation id to combine the request with the response, and create a log entry etc: public abstract class MessageHandler : DelegatingHandler { protected override async Task<HttpResponseMessage> SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, CancellationToken cancellationToken) { var corrId = string.Format("{0}{1}", DateTime.Now.Ticks, Thread.CurrentThread.ManagedThreadId); var requestInfo = string.Format("{0} {1}", request.Method, request.RequestUri); var requestMessage = await request.Content.ReadAsByteArrayAsync(); await IncommingMessageAsync(corrId, requestInfo, requestMessage); var response = await base.SendAsync(request, cancellationToken); var responseMessage = await response.Content.ReadAsByteArrayAsync(); await OutgoingMessageAsync(corrId, requestInfo, responseMessage); return response; } protected abstract Task IncommingMessageAsync(string correlationId, string requestInfo, byte[] message); protected abstract Task OutgoingMessageAsync(string correlationId, string requestInfo, byte[] message); } public class MessageLoggingHandler : MessageHandler { protected override async Task IncommingMessageAsync(string correlationId, string requestInfo, byte[] message) { await Task.Run(() => Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("{0} - Request: {1}\r\n{2}", correlationId, requestInfo, Encoding.UTF8.GetString(message)))); } protected override async Task OutgoingMessageAsync(string correlationId, string requestInfo, byte[] message) { await Task.Run(() => Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("{0} - Response: {1}\r\n{2}", correlationId, requestInfo, Encoding.UTF8.GetString(message)))); } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   The code above will show the following in the Visual Studio output window when the “api/values” service (One standard controller added by the default WepAPI template) is requested with a Get http method : 6347483479959544375 - Request: GET http://localhost:3208/api/values 6347483479959544375 - Response: GET http://localhost:3208/api/values ["value1","value2"] .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   Register a Message Handler To register a Message handler we can use the Add method of the GlobalConfiguration.Configration.MessageHandlers in for example Global.asax: public class WebApiApplication : System.Web.HttpApplication { protected void Application_Start() { GlobalConfiguration.Configuration.MessageHandlers.Add(new MessageLoggingHandler()); ... } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   Summary By using a Message Handler we can easily remove cross-cutting concerns like logging from our controllers. You can also find the source code used in this blog post on ForkCan.com, feel free to make a fork or add comments, such as making the code better etc. Feel free to follow me on twitter @fredrikn if you want to know when I will write other blog posts etc.

  • Curious about IObservable? Here’s a quick example to get you started!

    - by Roman Schindlauer
    Have you heard about IObservable/IObserver support in Microsoft StreamInsight 1.1? Then you probably want to try it out. If this is your first incursion into the IObservable/IObserver pattern, this blog post is for you! StreamInsight 1.1 introduced the ability to use IEnumerable and IObservable objects as event sources and sinks. The IEnumerable case is pretty straightforward, since many data collections are already surfacing as this type. This was already covered by Colin in his blog. Creating your own IObservable event source is a little more involved but no less exciting – here is a primer: First, let’s look at a very simple Observable data source. All it does is publish an integer in regular time periods to its registered observers. (For more information on IObservable, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd990377.aspx ). sealed class RandomSubject : IObservable<int>, IDisposable {     private bool _done;     private readonly List<IObserver<int>> _observers;     private readonly Random _random;     private readonly object _sync;     private readonly Timer _timer;     private readonly int _timerPeriod;       /// <summary>     /// Random observable subject. It produces an integer in regular time periods.     /// </summary>     /// <param name="timerPeriod">Timer period (in milliseconds)</param>     public RandomSubject(int timerPeriod)     {         _done = false;         _observers = new List<IObserver<int>>();         _random = new Random();         _sync = new object();         _timer = new Timer(EmitRandomValue);         _timerPeriod = timerPeriod;         Schedule();     }       public IDisposable Subscribe(IObserver<int> observer)     {         lock (_sync)         {             _observers.Add(observer);         }         return new Subscription(this, observer);     }       public void OnNext(int value)     {         lock (_sync)         {             if (!_done)             {                 foreach (var observer in _observers)                 {                     observer.OnNext(value);                 }             }         }     }       public void OnError(Exception e)     {         lock (_sync)         {             foreach (var observer in _observers)             {                 observer.OnError(e);             }             _done = true;         }     }       public void OnCompleted()     {         lock (_sync)         {             foreach (var observer in _observers)             {                 observer.OnCompleted();             }             _done = true;         }     }       void IDisposable.Dispose()     {         _timer.Dispose();     }       private void Schedule()     {         lock (_sync)         {             if (!_done)             {                 _timer.Change(_timerPeriod, Timeout.Infinite);             }         }     }       private void EmitRandomValue(object _)     {         var value = (int)(_random.NextDouble() * 100);         Console.WriteLine("[Observable]\t" + value);         OnNext(value);         Schedule();     }       private sealed class Subscription : IDisposable     {         private readonly RandomSubject _subject;         private IObserver<int> _observer;           public Subscription(RandomSubject subject, IObserver<int> observer)         {             _subject = subject;             _observer = observer;         }           public void Dispose()         {             IObserver<int> observer = _observer;             if (null != observer)             {                 lock (_subject._sync)                 {                     _subject._observers.Remove(observer);                 }                 _observer = null;             }         }     } }   So far, so good. Now let’s write a program that consumes data emitted by the observable as a stream of point events in a Streaminsight query. First, let’s define our payload type: class Payload {     public int Value { get; set; }       public override string ToString()     {         return "[StreamInsight]\tValue: " + Value.ToString();     } }   Now, let’s write the program. First, we will instantiate the observable subject. Then we’ll use the ToPointStream() method to consume it as a stream. We can now write any query over the source - here, a simple pass-through query. class Program {     static void Main(string[] args)     {         Console.WriteLine("Starting observable source...");         using (var source = new RandomSubject(500))         {             Console.WriteLine("Started observable source.");             using (var server = Server.Create("Default"))             {                 var application = server.CreateApplication("My Application");                   var stream = source.ToPointStream(application,                     e => PointEvent.CreateInsert(DateTime.Now, new Payload { Value = e }),                     AdvanceTimeSettings.StrictlyIncreasingStartTime,                     "Observable Stream");                   var query = from e in stream                             select e;                   [...]   We’re done with consuming input and querying it! But you probably want to see the output of the query. Did you know you can turn a query into an observable subject as well? Let’s do precisely that, and exploit the Reactive Extensions for .NET (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/devlabs/ee794896.aspx) to quickly visualize the output. Notice we’re subscribing “Console.WriteLine()” to the query, a pattern you may find useful for quick debugging of your queries. Reminder: you’ll need to install the Reactive Extensions for .NET (Rx for .NET Framework 4.0), and reference System.CoreEx and System.Reactive in your project.                 [...]                   Console.ReadLine();                 Console.WriteLine("Starting query...");                 using (query.ToObservable().Subscribe(Console.WriteLine))                 {                     Console.WriteLine("Started query.");                     Console.ReadLine();                     Console.WriteLine("Stopping query...");                 }                 Console.WriteLine("Stopped query.");             }             Console.ReadLine();             Console.WriteLine("Stopping observable source...");             source.OnCompleted();         }         Console.WriteLine("Stopped observable source.");     } }   We hope this blog post gets you started. And for bonus points, you can go ahead and rewrite the observable source (the RandomSubject class) using the Reactive Extensions for .NET! The entire sample project is attached to this article. Happy querying! Regards, The StreamInsight Team

  • Unable to install Xdebug

    - by burnt1ce
    I've registered xdebug in php.ini (as per http://xdebug.org/docs/install) but it's not showing up when i run "php -m" or when i get a test page to run "phpinfo()". I've just installed the latest version of XAMPP. Can anyone provide any suggestions in getting xdebug to show up? This is what i get when i run phpinfo(). **PHP Version 5.3.1** System Windows NT ANDREW_LAPTOP 5.1 build 2600 (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3) i586 Build Date Nov 20 2009 17:20:57 Compiler • I have made two template classes,could any one tell me if these things are useful?

    - by soul
    Recently i made two template classes,according to the book "Modern C++ design". I think these classes are useful but no one in my company agree with me,so could any one tell me if these things are useful? The first one is a parameter wrapper,it can package function paramters to a single dynamic object.It looks like TypeList in "Modern C++ design". You can use it like this: some place of your code: int i = 7; bool b = true; double d = 3.3; CParam *p1 = CreateParam(b,i); CParam *p2 = CreateParam(i,b,d); other place of your code: int i = 0; bool b = false; double d = 0.0; GetParam(p1,b,i); GetParam(p2,i,b,d); The second one is a generic callback wrapper,it has some special point compare to other wrappers: 1.This template class has a dynamic base class,which let you use a single type object represent all wrapper objects. 2.It can wrap the callback together with it's parameters,you can excute the callback sometimes later with the parameters. You can use it like this: somewhere of your code: void Test1(int i) { } void Test2(bool b,int i) { } CallbackFunc * p1 = CreateCallback(Test1,3); CallbackFunc * p2 = CreateCallback(Test2,false,99); otherwhere of your code: p1->Excute(); p2->Excute(); Here is a part of the codes: parameter wrapper: class NullType; struct CParam { virtual ~CParam(){} }; template<class T1,class T2> struct CParam2 : public CParam { CParam2(T1 &t1,T2 &t2):v1(t1),v2(t2){} CParam2(){} T1 v1; T2 v2; }; template<class T1> struct CParam2<T1,NullType> : public CParam { CParam2(T1 &t1):v1(t1){} CParam2(){} T1 v1; }; template<class T1> CParam * CreateParam(T1 t1) { return (new CParam2<T1,NullType>(t1)); } template<class T1,class T2> CParam * CreateParam(T1 t1,T2 t2) { return (new CParam2<T1,T2>(t1,t2)); } template<class T1,class T2,class T3> CParam * CreateParam(T1 t1,T2 t2,T3 t3) { CParam2<T2,T3> t(t2,t3); return new CParam2<T1,CParam2<T2,T3> >(t1,t); } template<class T1> void GetParam(CParam *p,T1 &t1) { PARAM1(T1)* p2 = dynamic_cast<CParam2<T1,NullType>*>(p); t1 = p2->v1; } callback wrapper: #define PARAM1(T1) CParam2<T1,NullType> #define PARAM2(T1,T2) CParam2<T1,T2> #define PARAM3(T1,T2,T3) CParam2<T1,CParam2<T2,T3> > class CallbackFunc { public: virtual ~CallbackFunc(){} virtual void Excute(void){} }; template<class T> class CallbackFunc2 : public CallbackFunc { public: CallbackFunc2():m_b(false){} CallbackFunc2(T &t):m_t(t),m_b(true){} T m_t; bool m_b; }; template<class M,class T> class StaticCallbackFunc : public CallbackFunc2<T> { public: StaticCallbackFunc(M m):m_m(m){} StaticCallbackFunc(M m,T t):CallbackFunc2<T>(t),m_m(m){} virtual void Excute(void){assert(CallbackFunc2<T>::m_b);CallMethod(CallbackFunc2<T>::m_t);} private: template<class T1> void CallMethod(PARAM1(T1) &t){m_m(t.v1);} template<class T1,class T2> void CallMethod(PARAM2(T1,T2) &t){m_m(t.v1,t.v2);} template<class T1,class T2,class T3> void CallMethod(PARAM3(T1,T2,T3) &t){m_m(t.v1,t.v2.v1,t.v2.v2);} private: M m_m; }; template<class M> class StaticCallbackFunc<M,void> : public CallbackFunc { public: StaticCallbackFunc(M method):m_m(method){} virtual void Excute(void){m_m();} private: M m_m; }; template<class C,class M,class T> class MemberCallbackFunc : public CallbackFunc2<T> { public: MemberCallbackFunc(C *pC,M m):m_pC(pC),m_m(m){} MemberCallbackFunc(C *pC,M m,T t):CallbackFunc2<T>(t),m_pC(pC),m_m(m){} virtual void Excute(void){assert(CallbackFunc2<T>::m_b);CallMethod(CallbackFunc2<T>::m_t);} template<class T1> void CallMethod(PARAM1(T1) &t){(m_pC->*m_m)(t.v1);} template<class T1,class T2> void CallMethod(PARAM2(T1,T2) &t){(m_pC->*m_m)(t.v1,t.v2);} template<class T1,class T2,class T3> void CallMethod(PARAM3(T1,T2,T3) &t){(m_pC->*m_m)(t.v1,t.v2.v1,t.v2.v2);} private: C *m_pC; M m_m; }; template<class T1> CallbackFunc *CreateCallback(CallbackFunc *p,T1 t1) { CParam2<T1,NullType> t(t1); return new StaticCallbackFunc<CallbackFunc *,CParam2<T1,NullType> >(p,t); } template<class C,class T1> CallbackFunc *CreateCallback(C *pC,void(C::*pF)(T1),T1 t1) { CParam2<T1,NullType>t(t1); return new MemberCallbackFunc<C,void(C::*)(T1),CParam2<T1,NullType> >(pC,pF,t); } template<class T1> CParam2<T1,NullType> CreateCallbackParam(T1 t1) { return CParam2<T1,NullType>(t1); } template<class T1> void ExcuteCallback(CallbackFunc *p,T1 t1) { CallbackFunc2<CParam2<T1,NullType> > *p2 = dynamic_cast<CallbackFunc2<CParam2<T1,NullType> > *>(p); p2->m_t.v1 = t1; p2->m_b = true; p->Excute(); }

I have a JSON text file which contains an big array with objects : Source ; and I'm using XMLHTTPRequest to get it and then parse it so I can use it when compiling the template. So far the template has the following structure : <div class="product-listing-wrapper"> <div class="product-listing"> <div class="left-side-content"> <div class="thumb-wrapper"> <img src="{{ThumbnailUrl}}"> </div> <div class="google-maps-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates"> <p>{{LatLon.Lat}}</p> <p>{{LatLon.Lon}}</p> </div> </div> <div class="google-maps-button"> <a class="google-maps" href="#" data-latitude="{{LatLon.Lat}}" data-longitude="{{LatLon.Lon}}">Google Maps</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="right-side-content"></div> </div> And the following block of code would be the way I'm handling the JS part : $(document).ready(function() { /* Default Javascript Options ~a javascript object which contains all the variables that will be passed to the cluster class */ var default_cluster_options = { animations : ['flash', 'bounce', 'shake', 'tada', 'swing', 'wobble', 'wiggle', 'pulse', 'flip', 'flipInX', 'flipOutX', 'flipInY', 'flipOutY', 'fadeIn', 'fadeInUp', 'fadeInDown', 'fadeInLeft', 'fadeInRight', 'fadeInUpBig', 'fadeInDownBig', 'fadeInLeftBig', 'fadeInRightBig', 'fadeOut', 'fadeOutUp', 'fadeOutDown', 'fadeOutLeft', 'fadeOutRight', 'fadeOutUpBig', 'fadeOutDownBig', 'fadeOutLeftBig', 'fadeOutRightBig', 'bounceIn', 'bounceInUp', 'bounceInDown', 'bounceInLeft', 'bounceInRight', 'bounceOut', 'bounceOutUp', 'bounceOutDown', 'bounceOutLeft', 'bounceOutRight', 'rotateIn', 'rotateInDownLeft', 'rotateInDownRight', 'rotateInUpLeft', 'rotateInUpRight', 'rotateOut', 'rotateOutDownLeft', 'rotateOutDownRight', 'rotateOutUpLeft', 'rotateOutUpRight', 'lightSpeedIn', 'lightSpeedOut', 'hinge', 'rollIn', 'rollOut'], json_data_url : 'data.json', template_data_url : 'template.php', base_maps_api_url : 'https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false', cluser_wrapper_id : '#content-wrapper', maps_wrapper_class : '.google-maps', }; /* Cluster ~main class, handles all javascript operations */ var Cluster = function(environment, cluster_options) { var self = this; this.options = $.extend({}, default_cluster_options, cluster_options); this.environment = environment; this.animations = this.options.animations; this.json_data_url = this.options.json_data_url; this.template_data_url = this.options.template_data_url; this.base_maps_api_url = this.options.base_maps_api_url; this.cluser_wrapper_id = this.options.cluser_wrapper_id; this.maps_wrapper_class = this.options.maps_wrapper_class; this.test_environment_mode(this.environment); this.initiate_environment(); this.test_xmlhttprequest_availability(); this.initiate_gmaps_lib_load(self.base_maps_api_url); this.initiate_data_processing(); }; /* Test Environment Mode ~adds a modernizr test which looks wheater the cluster class is initiated in development or not */ Cluster.prototype.test_environment_mode = function(environment) { var self = this; return Modernizr.addTest('test_environment', function() { return (typeof environment !== 'undefined' && environment !== null && environment === "Development") ? true : false; }); }; /* Test XMLHTTPRequest Availability ~adds a modernizr test which looks wheater the xmlhttprequest class is available or not in the browser, exception makes IE */ Cluster.prototype.test_xmlhttprequest_availability = function() { return Modernizr.addTest('test_xmlhttprequest', function() { return (typeof window.XMLHttpRequest === 'undefined' || window.XMLHttpRequest === null) ? true : false; }); }; /* Initiate Environment ~depending on what the modernizr test returns it puts LESS in the development mode or not */ Cluster.prototype.initiate_environment = function() { return (Modernizr.test_environment) ? (less.env = "development", less.watch()) : true; }; Cluster.prototype.initiate_gmaps_lib_load = function(lib_url) { return Modernizr.load(lib_url); }; /* Initiate XHR Request ~prototype function that creates an xmlhttprequest for processing json data from an separate json text file */ Cluster.prototype.initiate_xhr_request = function(url, mime_type) { var request, data; var self = this; (Modernizr.test_xmlhttprequest) ? request = new ActiveXObject('Microsoft.XMLHTTP') : request = new XMLHttpRequest(); request.onreadystatechange = function() { if(request.readyState == 4 && request.status == 200) { data = request.responseText; } }; request.open("GET", url, false); request.overrideMimeType(mime_type); request.send(); return data; }; Cluster.prototype.initiate_google_maps_action = function() { var self = this; return $(this.maps_wrapper_class).each(function(index, element) { return $(element).on('click', function(ev) { var html = $('<div id="map-canvas" class="map-canvas"></div>'); var latitude = $(element).attr('data-latitude'); var longitude = $(element).attr('data-longitude'); log("LAT : " + latitude); log("LON : " + longitude); $.lightbox(html, { "width": 900, "height": 250, "onOpen" : function() { } }); ev.preventDefault(); }); }); }; Cluster.prototype.initiate_data_processing = function() { var self = this; var json_data = JSON.parse(self.initiate_xhr_request(self.json_data_url, 'application/json; charset=ISO-8859-1')); var source_data = self.initiate_xhr_request(self.template_data_url, 'text/html'); var template = Handlebars.compile(source_data); for(var i = 0; i < json_data.length; i++ ) { var result = template(json_data[i]); $(result).appendTo(self.cluser_wrapper_id); } self.initiate_google_maps_action(); }; /* Cluster ~initiate the cluster class */ var cluster = new Cluster("Development"); }); My problem would be that I don't think I'm iterating the JSON object right or I'm using the template the wrong way because if you check this link : http://rolandgroza.com/labs/valtech/ ; you will see that there are some numbers there ( which represents latitude and longitude ) but they are all the same and if you take only a brief look at the JSON object each number is different. So what am I doing wrong that it makes the same number repeat ? Or what should I do to fix it ? I must notice that I've just started working with templates so I have little knowledge it.

  • Using Apache FOP from .NET level

    - by Lukasz Kurylo
    In one of my previous posts I was talking about FO.NET which I was using to generate a pdf documents from XSL-FO. FO.NET is one of the .NET ports of Apache FOP. Unfortunatelly it is no longer maintained. I known it when I decidec to use it, because there is a lack of available (free) choices for .NET to render a pdf form XSL-FO. I hoped in this implementation I will find all I need to create a pdf file with my really simple requirements. FO.NET is a port from some old version of Apache FOP and I found really quickly that there is a lack of some features that I needed, like dotted borders, double borders or support for margins. So I started to looking for some alternatives. I didn’t try the NFOP, another port of Apache FOP, because I found something I think much more better, the IKVM.NET project.   IKVM.NET it is not a pdf renderer. So what it is? From the project site:   IKVM.NET is an implementation of Java for Mono and the Microsoft .NET Framework. It includes the following components: a Java Virtual Machine implemented in .NET a .NET implementation of the Java class libraries tools that enable Java and .NET interoperability   In the simplest form IKVM.NET allows to use a Java code library in the C# code and vice versa.   I tried to use an Apache FOP, the best I think open source pdf –> XSL-FO renderer written in Java from my project written in C# using an IKVM.NET and it work like a charm. In the rest of the post I want to show, how to prepare a .NET *.dll class library from Apache FOP *.jar’s with IKVM.NET and generate a simple Hello world pdf document.   To start playing with IKVM.NET and Apache FOP we need to download their packages: IKVM.NET Apache FOP and then unpack them.   From the FOP directory copy all the *.jar’s files from lib and build catalogs to some location, e.g. d:\fop. Second step is to build the *.dll library from these files. On the console execute the following comand:   ikvmc –target:library –out:d:\fop\fop.dll –recurse:d:\fop   The ikvmc is located in the bin subdirectory where you unpacked the IKVM.NET. You must execute this command from this catalog, add this path to the global variable PATH or specify the full path to the bin subdirectory.   In no error occurred during this process, the fop.dll library should be created. Right now we can create a simple project to test if we can create a pdf file.   So let’s create a simple console project application and add reference to the fop.dll and the IKVM dll’s: IKVM.OpenJDK.Core and IKVM.OpenJDK.XML.API.   Full code to generate a pdf file from XSL-FO template:   static void Main(string[] args)         {             //initialize the Apache FOP             FopFactory fopFactory = FopFactory.newInstance();               //in this stream we will get the generated pdf file             OutputStream o = new DotNetOutputMemoryStream();             try             {                 Fop fop = fopFactory.newFop("application/pdf", o);                 TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();                 Transformer transformer = factory.newTransformer();                   //read the template from disc                 Source src = new StreamSource(new File("HelloWorld.fo"));                 Result res = new SAXResult(fop.getDefaultHandler());                 transformer.transform(src, res);             }             finally             {                 o.close();             }             using (System.IO.FileStream fs = System.IO.File.Create("HelloWorld.pdf"))             {                 //write from the .NET MemoryStream stream to disc the generated pdf file                 var data = ((DotNetOutputMemoryStream)o).Stream.GetBuffer();                 fs.Write(data, 0, data.Length);             }             Process.Start("HelloWorld.pdf");             System.Console.ReadLine();         }   Apache FOP be default using a Java’s Xalan to work with XML files. I didn’t find a way to replace this piece of code with equivalent from .NET standard library. If any error or warning will occure during generating the pdf file, on the console will ge shown, that’s why I inserted the last line in the sample above. The DotNetOutputMemoryStream this is my wrapper for the Java OutputStream. I have created it to have the possibility to exchange data between the .NET <-> Java objects. It’s implementation:   class DotNetOutputMemoryStream : OutputStream     {         private System.IO.MemoryStream ms = new System.IO.MemoryStream();         public System.IO.MemoryStream Stream         {             get             {                 return ms;             }         }         public override void write(int i)         {             ms.WriteByte((byte)i);         }         public override void write(byte[] b, int off, int len)         {             ms.Write(b, off, len);         }         public override void write(byte[] b)         {             ms.Write(b, 0, b.Length);         }         public override void close()         {             ms.Close();         }         public override void flush()         {             ms.Flush();         }     } The last thing we need, this is the HelloWorld.fo template.   <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <fo:root xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format"          xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">   <fo:layout-master-set>     <fo:simple-page-master master-name="simple"                   page-height="29.7cm"                   page-width="21cm"                   margin-top="1.8cm"                   margin-bottom="0.8cm"                   margin-left="1.6cm"                   margin-right="1.2cm">       <fo:region-body margin-top="3cm"/>       <fo:region-before extent="3cm"/>       <fo:region-after extent="1.5cm"/>     </fo:simple-page-master>   </fo:layout-master-set>   <fo:page-sequence master-reference="simple">     <fo:flow flow-name="xsl-region-body">       <fo:block font-size="18pt" color="black" text-align="center">         Hello, World!       </fo:block>     </fo:flow>   </fo:page-sequence> </fo:root>   I’m not going to explain how how this template is created, because this will be covered in the near future posts.   Generated pdf file should look that:

  • How to add Category in DotClear blog with HttpWebRequest or MetaWeblog API

    - by Pitming
    I'm trying to create/modify dotclear blogs. For most of the options, i use XmlRpc API (DotClear.MetaWeblog). But didn't find any way to handle categories. So I start to look at the Http packet and try to do "the same as the browser". Here si the method I use to "Http POST" protected HttpStatusCode HttpPost(Uri url_, string data_, bool allowAutoRedirect_) { HttpWebRequest Request; HttpWebResponse Response = null; Stream ResponseStream = null; Request = (System.Net.HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(url_); Request.UserAgent = "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)"; Request.Accept = "text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8"; Request.AllowAutoRedirect = allowAutoRedirect_; // Add the network credentials to the request. Request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(Username, Password); string authInfo = Username + ":" + Password; authInfo = Convert.ToBase64String(Encoding.Default.GetBytes(authInfo)); Request.Headers["Authorization"] = "Basic " + authInfo; Request.Method = "POST"; Request.CookieContainer = Cookies; if(ConnectionCookie!=null) Request.CookieContainer.Add(url_, ConnectionCookie); if (dcAdminCookie != null) Request.CookieContainer.Add(url_, dcAdminCookie); Request.PreAuthenticate = true; ASCIIEncoding encoding = new ASCIIEncoding(); string postData = data_; byte[] data = encoding.GetBytes(postData); //Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data_); //encoding.GetBytes(postData); Request.ContentLength = data.Length; Request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; Stream newStream = Request.GetRequestStream(); // Send the data. newStream.Write(data, 0, data.Length); newStream.Close(); try { // get the response from the server. Response = (HttpWebResponse)Request.GetResponse(); if (!allowAutoRedirect_) { foreach (Cookie c in Response.Cookies) { if (c.Name == "dcxd") ConnectionCookie = c; if (c.Name == "dc_admin") dcAdminCookie = c; } Cookies.Add(Response.Cookies); } // Get the response stream. ResponseStream = Response.GetResponseStream(); // Pipes the stream to a higher level stream reader with the required encoding format. StreamReader readStream = new StreamReader(ResponseStream, Encoding.UTF8); string result = readStream.ReadToEnd(); if (Request.RequestUri == Response.ResponseUri) { _log.InfoFormat("{0} ==&gt; {1}({2})", Request.RequestUri, Response.StatusCode, Response.StatusDescription); } else { _log.WarnFormat("RequestUri:{0}\r\nResponseUri:{1}\r\nstatus code:{2} Status descr:{3}", Request.RequestUri, Response.ResponseUri, Response.StatusCode, Response.StatusDescription); } } catch (WebException wex) { Response = wex.Response as HttpWebResponse; if (Response != null) { _log.ErrorFormat("{0} ==&gt; {1}({2})", Request.RequestUri, Response.StatusCode, Response.StatusDescription); } Request.Abort(); } finally { if (Response != null) { // Releases the resources of the response. Response.Close(); } } if(Response !=null) return Response.StatusCode; return HttpStatusCode.Ambiguous; } So the first thing to do is to Authenticate as admin. Here is the code: protected bool HttpAuthenticate() { Uri u = new Uri(this.Url); Uri url = new Uri(string.Format("{0}/admin/auth.php", u.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority))); string data = string.Format("user_id={0}&user_pwd={1}&user_remember=1", Username, Password); var ret = HttpPost(url,data,false); return (ret == HttpStatusCode.OK || ret==HttpStatusCode.Found); } 3.Now that I'm authenticate, i need to get a xd_chek info (that i can find on the page so basically it's a GET on /admin/category.php + Regex("dotclear[.]nonce = '(.*)'")) 4.so I'm authenticate and have the xd_check info. The last thing to do seems to post the next category. But of course it does not work at all... here is the code: string postData = string.Format("cat_title={0}&new_cat_parent={1}&xd_check={2}", category_, 0, xdCheck); HttpPost(url, postData, true); If anyone can help me and explain were is it wrong ? thanks in advance.

  • Change English numbers to Persian and vice versa in MVC (httpmodule)?

    - by Mohammad
    I wanna change all English numbers to Persian for showing to users. and change them to English numbers again for giving all requests (Postbacks) e.g: we have something like this in view IRQ170, I wanna show IRQ??? to users and give IRQ170 from users. I know, I have to use Httpmodule, But I don't know how ? Could you please guide me? Edit : Let me describe more : I've written the following http module : using System; using System.Collections.Specialized; using System.Diagnostics; using System.IO; using System.Text; using System.Text.RegularExpressions; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using Smartiz.Common; namespace Smartiz.UI.Classes { public class PersianNumberModule : IHttpModule { private StreamWatcher _watcher; #region Implementation of IHttpModule /// <summary> /// Initializes a module and prepares it to handle requests. /// </summary> /// <param name="context">An <see cref="T:System.Web.HttpApplication"/> that provides access to the methods, properties, and events common to all application objects within an ASP.NET application </param> public void Init(HttpApplication context) { context.BeginRequest += ContextBeginRequest; context.EndRequest += ContextEndRequest; } /// <summary> /// Disposes of the resources (other than memory) used by the module that implements <see cref="T:System.Web.IHttpModule"/>. /// </summary> public void Dispose() { } #endregion private void ContextBeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { HttpApplication context = sender as HttpApplication; if (context == null) return; _watcher = new StreamWatcher(context.Response.Filter); context.Response.Filter = _watcher; } private void ContextEndRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { HttpApplication context = sender as HttpApplication; if (context == null) return; _watcher = new StreamWatcher(context.Response.Filter); context.Response.Filter = _watcher; } } public class StreamWatcher : Stream { private readonly Stream _stream; private readonly MemoryStream _memoryStream = new MemoryStream(); public StreamWatcher(Stream stream) { _stream = stream; } public override void Flush() { _stream.Flush(); } public override int Read(byte[] buffer, int offset, int count) { int bytesRead = _stream.Read(buffer, offset, count); string orgContent = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(buffer, offset, bytesRead); string newContent = orgContent.ToEnglishNumber(); int newByteCountLength = Encoding.UTF8.GetByteCount(newContent); Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(newContent, 0, Encoding.UTF8.GetByteCount(newContent), buffer, 0); return newByteCountLength; } public override void Write(byte[] buffer, int offset, int count) { string strBuffer = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(buffer, offset, count); MatchCollection htmlAttributes = Regex.Matches(strBuffer, @"(\S+)=[""']?((?:.(?![""']?\s+(?:\S+)=|[>""']))+.)[""']?", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.Multiline); foreach (Match match in htmlAttributes) { strBuffer = strBuffer.Replace(match.Value, match.Value.ToEnglishNumber()); } MatchCollection scripts = Regex.Matches(strBuffer, "<script[^>]*>(.*?)</script>", RegexOptions.Singleline | RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.Multiline | RegexOptions.IgnorePatternWhitespace); foreach (Match match in scripts) { MatchCollection values = Regex.Matches(match.Value, @"([""'])(?:(?=(\\?))\2.)*?\1", RegexOptions.Singleline | RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.Multiline | RegexOptions.IgnorePatternWhitespace); foreach (Match stringValue in values) { strBuffer = strBuffer.Replace(stringValue.Value, stringValue.Value.ToEnglishNumber()); } } MatchCollection styles = Regex.Matches(strBuffer, "<style[^>]*>(.*?)</style>", RegexOptions.Singleline | RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.Multiline | RegexOptions.IgnorePatternWhitespace); foreach (Match match in styles) { strBuffer = strBuffer.Replace(match.Value, match.Value.ToEnglishNumber()); } byte[] data = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(strBuffer); _memoryStream.Write(data, offset, count); _stream.Write(data, offset, count); } public override string ToString() { return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(_memoryStream.ToArray()); } #region Rest of the overrides public override bool CanRead { get { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } public override bool CanSeek { get { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } public override bool CanWrite { get { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } public override long Seek(long offset, SeekOrigin origin) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public override void SetLength(long value) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public override long Length { get { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } public override long Position { get { throw new NotImplementedException(); } set { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } #endregion } } It works well, but It converts all numbers in css and scripts files to Persian and it causes error.

  • Creating packages in code – Execute SQL Task

    The Execute SQL Task is for obvious reasons very well used, so I thought if you are building packages in code the chances are you will be using it. Using the task basic features of the task are quite straightforward, add the task and set some properties, just like any other. When you start interacting with variables though it can be a little harder to grasp so these samples should see you through. Some of these more advanced features are explained in much more detail in our ever popular post The Execute SQL Task, here I’ll just be showing you how to implement them in code. The abbreviated code blocks below demonstrate the different features of the task. The complete code has been encapsulated into a sample class which you can download (ExecSqlPackage.cs). Each feature described has its own method in the sample class which is mentioned after the code block. This first sample just shows adding the task, setting the basic properties for a connection and of course an SQL statement. Package package = new Package(); // Add the SQL OLE-DB connection ConnectionManager sqlConnection = AddSqlConnection(package, "localhost", "master"); // Add the SQL Task package.Executables.Add("STOCK:SQLTask"); // Get the task host wrapper TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables[0] as TaskHost; // Set required properties taskHost.Properties["Connection"].SetValue(taskHost, sqlConnection.ID); taskHost.Properties["SqlStatementSource"].SetValue(taskHost, "SELECT * FROM sysobjects"); For the full version of this code, see the CreatePackage method in the sample class. The AddSqlConnection method is a helper method that adds an OLE-DB connection to the package, it is of course in the sample class file too. Returning a single value with a Result Set The following sample takes a different approach, getting a reference to the ExecuteSQLTask object task itself, rather than just using the non-specific TaskHost as above. Whilst it means we need to add an extra reference to our project (Microsoft.SqlServer.SQLTask) it makes coding much easier as we have compile time validation of any property and types we use. For the more complex properties that is very valuable and saves a lot of time during development. The query has also been changed to return a single value, one row and one column. The sample shows how we can return that value into a variable, which we also add to our package in the code. To do this manually you would set the Result Set property on the General page to Single Row and map the variable on the Result Set page in the editor. Package package = new Package(); // Add the SQL OLE-DB connection ConnectionManager sqlConnection = AddSqlConnection(package, "localhost", "master"); // Add the SQL Task package.Executables.Add("STOCK:SQLTask"); // Get the task host wrapper TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables[0] as TaskHost; // Add variable to hold result value package.Variables.Add("Variable", false, "User", 0); // Get the task object ExecuteSQLTask task = taskHost.InnerObject as ExecuteSQLTask; // Set core properties task.Connection = sqlConnection.Name; task.SqlStatementSource = "SELECT id FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'sysrowsets'"; // Set single row result set task.ResultSetType = ResultSetType.ResultSetType_SingleRow; // Add result set binding, map the id column to variable task.ResultSetBindings.Add(); IDTSResultBinding resultBinding = task.ResultSetBindings.GetBinding(0); resultBinding.ResultName = "id"; resultBinding.DtsVariableName = "User::Variable"; For the full version of this code, see the CreatePackageResultVariable method in the sample class. The other types of Result Set behaviour are just a variation on this theme, set the property and map the result binding as required. Parameter Mapping for SQL Statements This final example uses a parameterised SQL statement, with the coming from a variable. The syntax varies slightly between connection types, as explained in the Working with Parameters and Return Codes in the Execute SQL Taskhelp topic, but OLE-DB is the most commonly used, for which a question mark is the parameter value placeholder. Package package = new Package(); // Add the SQL OLE-DB connection ConnectionManager sqlConnection = AddSqlConnection(package, ".", "master"); // Add the SQL Task package.Executables.Add("STOCK:SQLTask"); // Get the task host wrapper TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables[0] as TaskHost; // Get the task object ExecuteSQLTask task = taskHost.InnerObject as ExecuteSQLTask; // Set core properties task.Connection = sqlConnection.Name; task.SqlStatementSource = "SELECT id FROM sysobjects WHERE name = ?"; // Add variable to hold parameter value package.Variables.Add("Variable", false, "User", "sysrowsets"); // Add input parameter binding task.ParameterBindings.Add(); IDTSParameterBinding parameterBinding = task.ParameterBindings.GetBinding(0); parameterBinding.DtsVariableName = "User::Variable"; parameterBinding.ParameterDirection = ParameterDirections.Input; parameterBinding.DataType = (int)OleDBDataTypes.VARCHAR; parameterBinding.ParameterName = "0"; parameterBinding.ParameterSize = 255; For the full version of this code, see the CreatePackageParameterVariable method in the sample class. You’ll notice the data type has to be specified for the parameter IDTSParameterBinding .DataType Property, and these type codes are connection specific too. My enumeration I wrote several years ago is shown below was probably done by reverse engineering a package and also the API header file, but I recently found a very handy post that covers more connections as well for exactly this, Setting the DataType of IDTSParameterBinding objects (Execute SQL Task). /// <summary> /// Enumeration of OLE-DB types, used when mapping OLE-DB parameters. /// </summary> private enum OleDBDataTypes { BYTE = 0x11, CURRENCY = 6, DATE = 7, DB_VARNUMERIC = 0x8b, DBDATE = 0x85, DBTIME = 0x86, DBTIMESTAMP = 0x87, DECIMAL = 14, DOUBLE = 5, FILETIME = 0x40, FLOAT = 4, GUID = 0x48, LARGE_INTEGER = 20, LONG = 3, NULL = 1, NUMERIC = 0x83, NVARCHAR = 130, SHORT = 2, SIGNEDCHAR = 0x10, ULARGE_INTEGER = 0x15, ULONG = 0x13, USHORT = 0x12, VARCHAR = 0x81, VARIANT_BOOL = 11 } Download Sample code ExecSqlPackage.cs (10KB)

  • Goodbye XML&hellip; Hello YAML (part 2)

    - by Brian Genisio's House Of Bilz
    Part 1 After I explained my motivation for using YAML instead of XML for my data, I got a lot of people asking me what type of tooling is available in the .Net space for consuming YAML.  In this post, I will discuss a nice tooling option as well as describe some small modifications to leverage the extremely powerful dynamic capabilities of C# 4.0.  I will be referring to the following YAML file throughout this post Recipe: Title: Macaroni and Cheese Description: My favorite comfort food. Author: Brian Genisio TimeToPrepare: 30 Minutes Ingredients: - Name: Cheese Quantity: 3 Units: cups - Name: Macaroni Quantity: 16 Units: oz Steps: - Number: 1 Description: Cook the macaroni - Number: 2 Description: Melt the cheese - Number: 3 Description: Mix the cooked macaroni with the melted cheese Tooling It turns out that there are several implementations of YAML tools out there.  The neatest one, in my opinion, is YAML for .NET, Visual Studio and Powershell.  It includes a great editor plug-in for Visual Studio as well as YamlCore, which is a parsing engine for .Net.  It is in active development still, but it is certainly enough to get you going with YAML in .Net.  Start by referenceing YamlCore.dll, load your document, and you are on your way.  Here is an example of using the parser to get the title of the Recipe: var yaml = YamlLanguage.FileTo("Data.yaml") as Hashtable; var recipe = yaml["Recipe"] as Hashtable; var title = recipe["Title"] as string; In a similar way, you can access data in the Ingredients set: var yaml = YamlLanguage.FileTo("Data.yaml") as Hashtable; var recipe = yaml["Recipe"] as Hashtable; var ingredients = recipe["Ingredients"] as ArrayList; foreach (Hashtable ingredient in ingredients) { var name = ingredient["Name"] as string; } You may have noticed that YamlCore uses non-generic Hashtables and ArrayLists.  This is because YamlCore was designed to work in all .Net versions, including 1.0.  Everything in the parsed tree is one of two things: Hashtable, ArrayList or Value type (usually String).  This translates well to the YAML structure where everything is either a Map, a Set or a Value.  Taking it further Personally, I really dislike writing code like this.  Years ago, I promised myself to never write the words Hashtable or ArrayList in my .Net code again.  They are ugly, mostly depreciated collections that existed before we got generics in C# 2.0.  Now, especially that we have dynamic capabilities in C# 4.0, we can do a lot better than this.  With a relatively small amount of code, you can wrap the Hashtables and Array lists with a dynamic wrapper (wrapper code at the bottom of this post).  The same code can be re-written to look like this: dynamic doc = YamlDoc.Load("Data.yaml"); var title = doc.Recipe.Title; And dynamic doc = YamlDoc.Load("Data.yaml"); foreach (dynamic ingredient in doc.Recipe.Ingredients) { var name = ingredient.Name; } I significantly prefer this code over the previous.  That’s not all… the magic really happens when we take this concept into WPF.  With a single line of code, you can bind to the data dynamically in the view: DataContext = YamlDoc.Load("Data.yaml"); Then, your XAML is extremely straight-forward (Nothing else.  No static types, no adapter code.  Nothing): <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.Title}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.Description}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.Author}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Recipe.TimeToPrepare}" /> <TextBlock Text="Ingredients:" FontWeight="Bold" /> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Recipe.Ingredients}" Margin="10,0,0,0"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Quantity}" /> <TextBlock Text=" " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Units}" /> <TextBlock Text=" of " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Name}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> <TextBlock Text="Steps:" FontWeight="Bold" /> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Recipe.Steps}" Margin="10,0,0,0"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Number}" /> <TextBlock Text=": " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Description}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> </StackPanel> This nifty XAML binding trick only works in WPF, unfortunately.  Silverlight handles binding differently, so they don’t support binding to dynamic objects as of late (March 2010).  This, in my opinion, is a major lacking feature in Silverlight and I really hope we will see this feature available to us in Silverlight 4 Release.  (I am not very optimistic for Silverlight 4, but I can hope for the feature in Silverlight 5, can’t I?) Conclusion I still have a few things I want to say about using YAML in the .Net space including de-serialization and using IronRuby for your YAML parser, but this post is hopefully enough to see how easy it is to incorporate YAML documents in your code. • Taking a screenshot from within a Silverlight #WP7 application

    - by Laurent Bugnion
    Often times, you want to take a screenshot of an application’s page. There can be multiple reasons. For instance, you can use this to provide an easy feedback method to beta testers. I find this super invaluable when working on integration of design in an app, and the user can take quick screenshots, attach them to an email and send them to me directly from the Windows Phone device. However, the same mechanism can also be used to provide screenshots are a feature of the app, for example if the user wants to save the current status of his application, etc. Caveats Note the following: The code requires an XNA library to save the picture to the media library. To have this, follow the steps: In your application (or class library), add a reference to Microsoft.Xna.Framework. In your code, add a “using” statement to Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Media. In the Properties folder, open WMAppManifest.xml and add the following capability: ID_CAP_MEDIALIB. The method call will fail with an exception if the device is connected to the Zune application on the PC. To avoid this, either disconnect the device when testing, or end the Zune application on the PC. While the method call will not fail on the emulator, there is no way to access the media library, so it is pretty much useless on this platform. This method only prints Silverlight elements to the output image. Other elements (such as a WebBrowser control’s content for instance) will output a black rectangle. The code public static void SaveToMediaLibrary( FrameworkElement element, string title) { try { var bmp = new WriteableBitmap(element, null); var ms = new MemoryStream(); bmp.SaveJpeg( ms, (int)element.ActualWidth, (int)element.ActualHeight, 0, 100); ms.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); var lib = new MediaLibrary(); var filePath = string.Format(title + ".jpg"); lib.SavePicture(filePath, ms); MessageBox.Show( "Saved in your media library!", "Done", MessageBoxButton.OK); } catch { MessageBox.Show( "There was an error. Please disconnect your phone from the computer before saving.", "Cannot save", MessageBoxButton.OK); } } This method can save any FrameworkElement. Typically I use it to save a whole page, but you can pass any other element to it. On line 7, we create a new WriteableBitmap. This excellent class can render a visual tree into a bitmap. Note that for even more features, you can use the great WriteableBitmapEx class library (which is open source). On lines 9 to 16, we save the WriteableBitmap to a MemoryStream. The only format supported by default is JPEG, however it is possible to convert to other formats with the ImageTools library (also open source). Lines 18 to 20 save the picture to the Windows Phone device’s media library. Using the image To retrieve the image, simply launch the Pictures library on the phone. The image will be in Saved Pictures. From here, you can share the image (by email, for instance), or synchronize it with the PC using the Zune software. Saving to other platforms It is of course possible to save to other platforms than the media library. For example, you can send the image to a web service, or save it to the isolated storage on the device. To do this, instead of using a MemoryStream, you can use any other stream (such as a web request stream, or a file stream) and save to that instead. Hopefully this code will be helpful to you! Whilst getting some courseware ready I was playing around writing some code and I decided to very simply show when a window starts and ends based on you asking for a TumblingWindow of n time units in StreamInsight.  I thought this was going to be a two second thing but what I found was something I haven’t yet found documented anywhere until now.   All this code is written in C# and will slot straight into my favourite quick-win dev tool LinqPad   Let’s first create a sample dataset   var EnumerableCollection = new [] { new {id = 1, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 12:00:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 2, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 12:20:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 3, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 12:30:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 4, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 12:40:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 5, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 12:50:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 6, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 01:00:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 7, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 01:10:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 8, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 02:00:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 9, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 03:20:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 10, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 03:30:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 11, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 04:40:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 12, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 04:50:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 13, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 05:00:00 PM").ToLocalTime()}, new {id = 14, StartTime = DateTime.Parse("2010-10-01 05:10:00 PM").ToLocalTime()} };   Now let’s create a stream of point events   var inputStream = EnumerableCollection .ToPointStream(Application,evt=> PointEvent .CreateInsert(evt.StartTime,evt),AdvanceTimeSettings.StrictlyIncreasingStartTime);   Now we can create our windows over the stream.  The first window we will create is a one hour tumbling window.  We’'ll count the events in the window but what we do here is not the point, the point is our window edges.   var windowedStream = from win in inputStream.TumblingWindow(TimeSpan.FromHours(1),HoppingWindowOutputPolicy.ClipToWindowEnd) select new {CountOfEntries = win.Count()};   Now we can have a look at what we get.  I am only going to show the first non Cti event as that is enough to demonstrate what is going on   windowedStream.ToIntervalEnumerable().First(e=> e.EventKind == EventKind.Insert).Dump("First Row from Windowed Stream");   The results are below   EventKind Insert   StartTime 01/10/2010 12:00   EndTime 01/10/2010 13:00     { CountOfEntries = 5 }   Payload CountOfEntries 5   Now this makes sense and is quite often the width of window specified in examples.  So what happens if I change the windowing code now to var windowedStream = from win in inputStream.TumblingWindow(TimeSpan.FromHours(5),HoppingWindowOutputPolicy.ClipToWindowEnd) select new {CountOfEntries = win.Count()}; Now where does your window start?  What about   var windowedStream = from win in inputStream.TumblingWindow(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(13),HoppingWindowOutputPolicy.ClipToWindowEnd) select new {CountOfEntries = win.Count()};   Well for the first example your window will start at 01/10/2010 10:00:00 , and for the second example it will start at  01/10/2010 11:55:00 Surprised?   Here is the reason why and thanks to the StreamInsight team for listening.   Windows start at TimeSpan.MinValue. Windows are then created from that point onwards of the size you specified in your code.  If a window contains no events they are not produced by the engine to the output.  This is why window start times can be before the first event is created.

  • Should I expose IObservable<T> on my interfaces?

    - by Alex
    My colleague and I have dispute. We are writing a .NET application that processes massive amounts of data. It receives data elements, groups subsets of them into blocks according to some criterion and processes those blocks. Let's say we have data items of type Foo arriving some source (from the network, for example) one by one. We wish to gather subsets of related objects of type Foo, construct an object of type Bar from each such subset and process objects of type Bar. One of us suggested the following design. Its main theme is exposing IObservable objects directly from the interfaces of our components. // ********* Interfaces ********** interface IFooSource { // this is the event-stream of objects of type Foo IObservable<Foo> FooArrivals { get; } } interface IBarSource { // this is the event-stream of objects of type Bar IObservable<Bar> BarArrivals { get; } } / ********* Implementations ********* class FooSource : IFooSource { // Here we put logic that receives Foo objects from the network and publishes them to the FooArrivals event stream. } class FooSubsetsToBarConverter : IBarSource { IFooSource fooSource; IObservable<Bar> BarArrivals { get { // Do some fancy Rx operators on fooSource.FooArrivals, like Buffer, Window, Join and others and return IObservable<Bar> } } } // this class will subscribe to the bar source and do processing class BarsProcessor { BarsProcessor(IBarSource barSource); void Subscribe(); } // ******************* Main ************************ class Program { public static void Main(string[] args) { var fooSource = FooSourceFactory.Create(); var barsProcessor = BarsProcessorFactory.Create(fooSource) // this will create FooSubsetToBarConverter and BarsProcessor barsProcessor.Subscribe(); fooSource.Run(); // this enters a loop of listening for Foo objects from the network and notifying about their arrival. } } The other suggested another design that its main theme is using our own publisher/subscriber interfaces and using Rx inside the implementations only when needed. //********** interfaces ********* interface IPublisher<T> { void Subscribe(ISubscriber<T> subscriber); } interface ISubscriber<T> { Action<T> Callback { get; } } //********** implementations ********* class FooSource : IPublisher<Foo> { public void Subscribe(ISubscriber<Foo> subscriber) { /* ... */ } // here we put logic that receives Foo objects from some source (the network?) publishes them to the registered subscribers } class FooSubsetsToBarConverter : ISubscriber<Foo>, IPublisher<Bar> { void Callback(Foo foo) { // here we put logic that aggregates Foo objects and publishes Bars when we have received a subset of Foos that match our criteria // maybe we use Rx here internally. } public void Subscribe(ISubscriber<Bar> subscriber) { /* ... */ } } class BarsProcessor : ISubscriber<Bar> { void Callback(Bar bar) { // here we put code that processes Bar objects } } //********** program ********* class Program { public static void Main(string[] args) { var fooSource = fooSourceFactory.Create(); var barsProcessor = barsProcessorFactory.Create(fooSource) // this will create BarsProcessor and perform all the necessary subscriptions fooSource.Run(); // this enters a loop of listening for Foo objects from the network and notifying about their arrival. } } Which one do you think is better? Exposing IObservable and making our components create new event streams from Rx operators, or defining our own publisher/subscriber interfaces and using Rx internally if needed? Here are some things to consider about the designs: In the first design the consumer of our interfaces has the whole power of Rx at his/her fingertips and can perform any Rx operators. One of us claims this is an advantage and the other claims that this is a drawback. The second design allows us to use any publisher/subscriber architecture under the hood. The first design ties us to Rx. If we wish to use the power of Rx, it requires more work in the second design because we need to translate the custom publisher/subscriber implementation to Rx and back. It requires writing glue code for every class that wishes to do some event processing.

  • jQuery post with FileStreamResult as return value

    - by karl
    Hello, I'm quite new with jquery and asp.net mvc. My problem is that I'm calling a method in a controller that returns a FileStreamResult. This is working fine, but when I'm calling it with the jQuery post it doesn't work. I can see with vs debug tool that the progam is exectuting the method. Therefor I think it has something to do with that my jQuery call should take care of the return parameter? Somenoe? The jQuery code: <script type="text/javascript"> function createPPT() { $.post("<%= Url.Action( "DownloadAsPowerpoint", "RightMenu" )%>"); } </script> The method in the controller: public ActionResult DownloadAsPowerpoint() { Stream stream; //... HttpContext.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=presentation.pptx"); return new FileStreamResult(stream, "application/pptx"); } Could someone explain and give me some example code?

  • WPF 3.5 RenderTargetBitmap memory hog

    - by kingRauk
    I have a 3.5 WPF application that use's RenderTargetBitmap. It eat's memory like a big bear. It's is a know problem in 3.5 that RenderTargetBitmap.Render has memory problems. Have find some solutions for it, but i doesnt help. https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/489723/rendertargetbitmap-render-method-causes-a-memory-leak Program takes too much memory And more... Does anyway have any more ideas to solve it... static Image Method(FrameworkElement e, int width, int height) { const int dpi = 192; e.Width = width; e.Height = height; e.Arrange(new Rect(0, 0, width, height)); e.UpdateLayout(); if(element is Graph) (element as Graph).UpdateComponents(); var bitmap = new RenderTargetBitmap((int)(width*dpi/96.0), (int)(height*dpi/96.0), dpi, dpi, PixelFormats.Pbgra32); bitmap.Render(element); var encoder = new PngBitmapEncoder(); encoder.Frames.Add(BitmapFrame.Create(bitmap)); using (var stream = new MemoryStream()) { encoder.Save(stream); element.Clip = null; Dispose(element); bitmap.Freeze(); DisposeRender(bitmap); bitmap.Clear(); GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); return System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(stream); } } public static void Dispose(FrameworkElement element) { GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); GC.Collect(); } public static void DisposeRender(RenderTargetBitmap bitmap) { if (bitmap != null) bitmap.Clear(); bitmap = null; GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); }

  • DataSet does not support System.Nullable<>

    - by a_m0d
    I'm trying to set the DataSource for a Crystal Reports report, but I've run into a few problems. I've been following a guide written by Mohammad Mahdi Ramezanpour, and have managed to get all the way to the last part now (setting the DataSource). However, I have a problem that Mohammad does not seem to have - when I pass the results of my query to the report, I end up with the following exception: DataSet does not support System.Nullable< This is the query I am using: public IQueryable<Part> GetPartsToDisplayOnStockReport() { return from part in db.Parts where part.showOnStockReport == true select part; } and the way I pass it to the Report: public ActionResult ViewStockReport() { StockReport stockReport = new StockReport(); var parts = ordersRepository.GetPartsToDisplayOnStockReport().ToList(); stockReport.SetDataSource(parts); Stream stream = stockReport.ExportToStream(CrystalDecisions.Shared.ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat); return File(stream, "application/pdf"); } I have also tried changing my query to this code, in the hope that it would fix my problem: return (from part in db.Parts where part.showOnStockReport == true select part) ?? db.Parts.DefaultIfEmpty(); but it still complained about the same problem. How can I pass the results of this query to my report, to use it as a data source? Also, if each of my Parts object contains other objects / collections of other objects, will I be able to reference them in the report with a datasource like this?

  • Using Perl WWW::Facebook::API to Publish To Facebook Newsfeed

    - by Russell C.
    We use Facebook Connect on our site in conjunction with the WWW::Facebook::API CPAN module to publish to our users newsfeed when requested by the user. So far we've been able to successfully update the user's status using the following code: use WWW::Facebook::API; my $facebook = WWW::Facebook::API->new( desktop => 0, api_key => $fb_api_key, secret => $fb_secret, session_key => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_session_key'), session_expires => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_expires'), session_uid => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_user') ); my $response = $facebook->stream->publish( message => qq|Test status message|, ); However, when we try to update the code above so we can publish newsfeed stories that include attachments and action links as specified in the Facebook API documentation for Stream.Publish, we have tried about 100 different ways without any success. According to the CPAN documentation all we should have to do is update our code to something like the following and pass the attachments & action links appropriately which doesn't seem to work: my $response = $facebook->stream->publish( message => qq|Test status message|, attachment => $json, action_links => [@links], ); For example, we are passing the above arguments as follows: $json = qq|{ 'name': 'i\'m bursting with joy', 'href': ' http://bit.ly/187gO1', 'caption': '{*actor*} rated the lolcat 5 stars', 'description': 'a funny looking cat', 'properties': { 'category': { 'text': 'humor', 'href': 'http://bit.ly/KYbaN'}, 'ratings': '5 stars' }, 'media': [{ 'type': 'image', 'src': 'http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/funny-pictures-your-cat-is-bursting-with-joy1.jpg', 'href': 'http://bit.ly/187gO1'}] }|; @links = ["{'text':'Link 1', 'href':'http://www.link1.com'}","{'text':'Link 2', 'href':'http://www.link2.com'}"]; The above, nor any of the other representations we tried seem to work. I'm hoping some other perl developer out there has this working and can explain how to create the attachment and action_links variables appropriately in Perl for posting to the Facebook news feed through WWW::Facebook::API. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • BinaryWrite exception "OutputStream is not available when a custom TextWriter is used" in MVC 2 ASP.

    - by Grant
    Hi, I have a view rendering a stream using the response BinaryWrite method. This all worked fine under ASP.NET 4 using the Beta 2 but throws this exception in the RC release: "HttpException" , "OutputStream is not available when a custom TextWriter is used." <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.IO" %> <script runat="server"> protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewData["Error"] == null) { Response.Buffer = true; Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = ViewData["DocType"] as string; Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", ViewData["Disposition"] as string); Response.CacheControl = "No-cache"; MemoryStream stream = ViewData["DocAsStream"] as MemoryStream; Response.BinaryWrite(stream.ToArray()); Response.Flush(); Response.Close(); } } </script> </script> The view is generated from a client side redirect (jquery replace location call in the previous page using Url.Action helper to render the link of course). This is all in an iframe. Anyone have an idea why this occurs?

  • Stdin to powershell script

    - by Stefan
    I have a service running that can invoke an external process to modify a text stream before it is returned to the service. The text stream is handed from the service to the external process on stdout and the modified result is read from the service on stdin. The external process (command) can in other words be used as a text "filter". I would like to use a powershell script to modify the text stream. I can successfully launch a script from the service on win 2008r2 using the command "powershell -executionpolicy bypass -noninteractive ./myscript.ps1". I can make the script return text to the service on stdout using the write-host cmdlet. My problem is that I can't find a way to read the text on stdin in the script. Read-host doesn't seem to work as it requires an interactive shell. I would like to avoid writing the stdout from the service to a tmp file and read that file in the script as the service is multithreaded (can launch more than one external command at a time) and tmp file management (locking, unique filenames etc) is not desired. Is this possible or should I use for example Perl for this? Powershell seems compelling as it is preinstalled on all my win 2008 machines.

  • C# Can I return HttpWebResponse result to iframe - Uses Digest authentication

    - by chadsxe
    I am trying to figure out a way to display a cross-domain web page that uses Digest Authentication. My initial thought was to make a web request and return the entire page source. I currently have no issues with authenticating and getting a response but I am not sure how to properly return the needed data. // Create a request for the URL. WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create("http://some-url/cgi/image.php?type=live"); // Set the credentials. request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); // Get the response. HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); // Get the stream containing content returned by the server. Stream dataStream = response.GetResponseStream(); // Open the stream using a StreamReader for easy access. StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(dataStream); // Read the content. string responseFromServer = reader.ReadToEnd(); // Clean up the streams and the response. reader.Close(); dataStream.Close(); response.Close(); return responseFromServer; My problems are currently... responseFromServer is not returning the entire source of the page. I.E. missing body and head tags The data is encoded improperly in responseFromServer. I believe this has something to do with the transfer encoding being of the type chunked. Further more... I am not entirely sure if this is even possible. If it matters, this is being done in ASP.NET MVC 4 C#. Thanks, Chad

  • Using .NET's HttpWebRequest to download a multitude of files in a row

    - by Cornelius
    I have an application that needs to download several files in a row in succession (sometimes a few thousand). However, what ends up happening when several files need to be downloaded is I get an exception with an inner exception of type SocketException and the error code 10048 (WSAEADDRINUSE). I did some digging and basically it's because the server has run out of sockets (and they are all waiting for 240s or so before they become available again) - not coincidentally it starts happening around the 1024 file range. I would expect that the HttpWebRequest/ServicePointManager would be reusing my connection, but apparently it is not (and the files are https, so that may be part of it). I never saw this problem in the C++ code that this was ported from (but that doesn't mean it didn't ever happen - I'd be surprised if it was, though). I am properly closing the WebRequest object and the HttpWebRequest object has KeepAlive set to true by default. Next my intent is to fiddle around with ServicePointManager.SetTcpKeepAlive(). However, I can't see how more people haven't run into this problem. Has anyone else run into the problem, and if so, what did you do to get around it? Currently I have a retry scheme that detects this error and waits it out, but that doesn't seem like the right thing to do. Here's some basic code to verify what I'm doing (just in case I'm missing closing something): WebRequest webRequest = WebRequest.Create(uri); webRequest.Method = "GET"; webRequest.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); WebResponse webResponse = webRequest.GetResponse(); try { using(Stream stream = webResponse.GetResponseStream()) { // read the stream } } finally { webResponse.Close() }

  • Instantiating a list of parameterized types, making beter use of Generics and Linq

    - by DanO
    I'm hashing a file with one or more hash algorithms. When I tried to parametrize which hash types I want, it got a lot messier than I was hoping. I think I'm missing a chance to make better use of generics or LINQ. I also don't like that I have to use a Type[] as the parameter instead of limiting it to a more specific set of type (HashAlgorithm descendants), I'd like to specify types as the parameter and let this method do the constructing, but maybe this would look better if I had the caller new-up instances of HashAlgorithm to pass in? public List<string> ComputeMultipleHashesOnFile(string filename, Type[] hashClassTypes) { var hashClassInstances = new List<HashAlgorithm>(); var cryptoStreams = new List<CryptoStream>(); FileStream fs = File.OpenRead(filename); Stream cryptoStream = fs; foreach (var hashClassType in hashClassTypes) { object obj = Activator.CreateInstance(hashClassType); var cs = new CryptoStream(cryptoStream, (HashAlgorithm)obj, CryptoStreamMode.Read); hashClassInstances.Add((HashAlgorithm)obj); cryptoStreams.Add(cs); cryptoStream = cs; } CryptoStream cs1 = cryptoStreams.Last(); byte[] scratch = new byte[1 << 16]; int bytesRead; do { bytesRead = cs1.Read(scratch, 0, scratch.Length); } while (bytesRead > 0); foreach (var stream in cryptoStreams) { stream.Close(); } foreach (var hashClassInstance in hashClassInstances) { Console.WriteLine("{0} hash = {1}", hashClassInstance.ToString(), HexStr(hashClassInstance.Hash).ToLower()); } }

  • Problem converting a byte array into datatable.

    - by kranthi
    Hi, In my aspx page I have a HTML inputfile type which allows user to browse for a spreadsheet.Once the user choses the file to upload I want to read the content of the spreadsheet and store the content into mysql database table. I am using the following code to read the content of the uploaded file and convert it into a datatable in order into insert it into database table. if (filMyFile.PostedFile != null) { // Get a reference to PostedFile object HttpPostedFile myFile = filMyFile.PostedFile; // Get size of uploaded file int nFileLen = myFile.ContentLength; // make sure the size of the file is > 0 if (nFileLen > 0) { // Allocate a buffer for reading of the file byte[] myData = new byte[nFileLen]; // Read uploaded file from the Stream myFile.InputStream.Read(myData, 0, nFileLen); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); MemoryStream st = new MemoryStream(myData); st.Position = 0; System.Runtime.Serialization.IFormatter formatter = new System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary.BinaryFormatter(); dt=(DataTable)formatter.Deserialize(st); } } But I am getting the following error when I am trying to deserialise the byte array into datatable. Binary stream '0' does not contain a valid BinaryHeader. Possible causes are invalid stream or object version change between serialization and deserialization. Could someone please tell me what am I doing wrong? I've also tried converting the bytearray into string ,then converting the string back to byte array and convert into datatable.That is also throwing the same error. Thanks.
