• Word 2007 - Pasted Text Not Spellchecked??

  My Word 2007 spell-check seems to work fine, except that when I paste in text from somewhere else, it won't detect any misspellings in that pasted text...no matter what I try. If it makes any difference, when I paste in text, the formatting is preserved (size color etc). I've tried doing a past-special and trying the different options there, but it's still bringing the formatting over. Any ideas on what to try?

• java max heap size, how much is too much

  I'm having issues with a JRuby (rails) app running in tomcat. Occasionally page requests can take up to a minute to return (even though the rails logs processed the request in seconds so it's obviously a tomcat issue). I'm wondering what settings are optimal for the java heap size. I know there's no definitive answer, but I thought maybe someone could comment on my setup. I'm on a small EC2 instance which has 1.7g ram. I have the following JAVA_OPTS: -Xmx1536m -Xms256m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled My first thought is that Xmx is too high. If I only have 1.7gb and I allocated 1.5gb to java, i feel like I'll get a lot of paging. Typically my java process shows (in top) 1.1g res memory and 2g virtual. I also read somewhere that setting the Xms and Xmx to the same size will help as it eliminates time spend on memory allocation. I'm not a java person but I've been tasked with figuring out this problem and I'm trying to find out where to start. Any tips are greatly appreciated!! update I've started analyzing the garbage collection dumps using -XX:+PrintGCDetails When i notice these occasional long load times, the gc logs go nuts. the last one I did (which took 25s to complete) I had gc log lines such as: 1720.267: [GC 1720.267: [DefNew: 27712K->16K(31104K), 0.0068020 secs] 281792K->254096K(444112K), 0.0069440 secs] 1720.294: [GC 1720.294: [DefNew: 27728K->0K(31104K), 0.0343340 secs] 281808K->254080K(444112K), 0.0344910 secs] about 300 of them on a single request!!! Now, I don't totally understand why it's always GC'ng from ~28m down to 0 over and over.

I have attempted to search for more information regarding what the pool size is, what it does, its importance as well as caveats in increasing its size. Am unsure where to find it in IIS 7 and 7.5 as well as what the default size is. Does changing the pool size also affect web gardens?

  I am trying to set up a test environment on my local machine, and I am trying to start a DNS daemon that loads tha configuration from a named.conf.custom file.   OS:WinXP Say I got some files in Chinese and some files in Korean. And in windows 'Region and Language Options', I set language for non-unicode program = Chinese. Is there any way that I can read some Korean text file in text editor easily without using Microsoft Word? I need an environment that can support multiple unicode easily, I need to read Chinese, Japanese, Korean in text editor (Ultraeditor, notepad++) and terminal clients like SecureCRT. • repo sync "CyanogenMod/android_prebuilt" size and resume capability.?

  I'm downloading CyanogenMod-10.1 source on a low speed broadband. About 4GB of source is downloaded . In that 4GB, there is a big project "CyanogenMod/android_frameworks_base" which alone took 1GB of download without any interruption. Ok now, after 4GB of download, my internet got disconnected and I had to stop (ctrl + z) repo sync while it was downloading the project "CyanogenMod/android_prebuilt". Before I stopped repo sync the android_prebuilt got downloaded till 250MB and is at 42percent. I checked the working folder and there is a file "tmp_pack_df5CKb" of size 250MB in the path "$WORKING_DIR/.repo/projects/prebuilt.git/objects/pack/" . Then I restarted repo sync and it was downloading the android_prebuilt project. But I'm not sure if it was downloading from start or resuming from 250MB. While downloading this time , the previous "tmp_pack_df5CKb" isn't deleted and the content is being downloaded to a new file "tmp_pack_HPfvFG". I heard repo sync cannot be resumed for a project. But here, since the previous file isn't deleted I want to ask if android_prebuilt is resuming or downloading from start again? Now that my high speed internet is over (current speed 256kbps), I'm not sure if I can download the remaining ~4GB if single project is in size 500 MB.

  We use several Word documents as templates and currently include 'guidance' text for the reader - in the form of grey, italic text - to provide guidance to the person completing the document. Note how the grey+italic text is used to provide both guidance and example content Problems with this approach include: People forgetting to delete all of this template/boilerplate text People using the italic+grey formatting when inputting real information because they don't change the style We've considered including Reviewing comments as an alternative but this can be a pain and suffers from the first problem above. I'm not sure a simple, elegant solution exists here but if there's something obvious I'm missing I'd love to hear about it.

• How to take screenshots of WPF applications in correct size and content

  I usually take screenshots of single windows via the built-in key combination Alt+Print. Unfortunately this does not work well for more and more applications - all of them are WPF applications. Usually the screen shots have at least one of the following properties: the screenshot is larger than expected and contains parts of the screen around the actual window the screenshot has the correct size but includes parts of other windows, e.g. the Windows task bar. Of course the task bar might be in front of the window, but taking screen shots of "normal" programs works fine. How do I take screenshots of WPF application which are correct in size and content? I'd like to avoid the extra effort of checking all the screenshots for correctness, reproducing the situation, taking them again in case of issues or repairing/faking them manually in any pixel manipulation program (e.g. Paint.NET). I observe this on Windows 7 x64 SP 1, all official updates installed, but it might apply to other Windows versions as well (not tested yet). .NET 4.5 is installed. The application itself might only need the built-in .NET 3.5.1. It's reproducible on a virtual machine with the same settings. Examples: Screenshot of an application running in maximized mode. The screen shot includes parts of the task bar. Screenshot of a progress dialog which is behind the task bar. The screenshot also includes the task bar, while it doesn't for non WPF applications.

  I am now new to scripts but i find it really difficult understanding "for" command (especially with that tokens and delimiters etc) . Saying so, i think that for command can be used to do what i am doing. If its not and there is an easier way, ignore my ignorance :( Say i have multiple lines in a text file abc.txt with each line starting and ending with " (quotes) E.g. a file of 3 lines "hey what is going on @mike220. I am working on your car. Its engine is in very bad condition" "Because if you knew, you'd get shredded and do it with certainty" "@honey220 Do you know someone who has busted their ass on a diet only for results to come to a screeching halt after a few weeks" How can i trim each line, within the quotes, to a Fixed length say 30 or 50 or 100 characters (including spaces) I want to enter the number of character in batch and it can trim accordingly and produce a file def.txt with trimmed lines within quotes. Say i enter 50, results of above example should be "hey what is going on @mike220.   I use Windows 7's command prompt (cmd.exe) for various tasks. In order to copy text from it, I right click and choose Mark, and then mark the text I want to copy. Sometimes while doing this, the marking doesn't stick. The minute I release the left mouse button after marking the text, the marking disappears. This has happened on every Windows 7 installation I've ever installed. How do I solve this?

• Size of modules within initrd

  I am currently trying to manually replace the kernel within ubuntu-core on an embedded device with a custom kernel. However when I try to update the initrd my initrd becomes much bigger. Here is what I did: Extract the initrd that was shipped with ubuntu Make a list of all modules within the old initrd get the same modules from the new module director at /lib/modules/new_kernel_version add these modules to the initrd and remove the old ones If I do this my initrd becomes quite bigger than the original one, so I checked the individual modules. I picked the btrfs.ko filesystem driver as an example. So by comparing these two modules I noticed the one I just picked into the initrd was much bigger, which caused the difference in size. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 999K Nov 14 15:06 btrfs.ko For the btrfs.ko within the shipped initrd. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7.2M Nov 14 15:08 btrfs.ko For the new btrfs.ko. What is different between these two modules? Could this be caused by some faulty setting for the new kernel? When producing the kernel I copied /proc/config.gz and used make oldconfig to update it, so all optimisations should be the same for both kernels. Or is there something else which is being done to the modules before they are put into the initrd? Maybe is there even some better way to build a new initrd for the new kernel in ubuntu altogether. Update: I just also tested with an initrd which I created from scratch using the mkinitrfs command within ubuntu, and it has the same size difference that I found for the initrd I manually updated.

• Can't select text with mouse in Word / Office 2007

  I'm having a very weird problem here for the last few months. In Word, and in fact all programs from the Office 2007 suite, I can't drag the mouse pointer to select text. I can click at a point in the text and the cursor moves correctly to that point. If I double click, the word under the cursor is selected, and triple clicking selects the whole line. However if I hold the mouse button down and drag the mouse, no text is selected. Occasionally the problem disappears and everything works fine, but it then reappears a few minutes later. Text selection with the mouse works everywhere else (Firefox, PuTTY, OpenOffice), just not in Office. The only addins are Google Desktop Office Addin, and Person Name (). For info it is Office 2007 SP3, running on Windows 7 64-bit.

  I am not sure if this is more suited for Superuser or Stackoverflow, but here goes... A little bit of background: I'm learning SQL and was trying to make a very large table which I could use for optimization tests. Something generic with random values. I created a little Java program to do just that, and was able to put out a text file with 100,000 lines, each line being an SQL INSERT statement for a new random record. However, with anything much bigger than 100,000 lines, I had problems either opening/using the text file in any text editor, or copying/pasting the text to the windows clipboard and then into SQL Developer so I could execute it as a script. I'm probably overlooking something really obvious, or doing something really stupid. There has got to be a better way to do this, but I couldn't find anything through Google or Stackoverflow or Superuser. Thanks!

• Exchange 2003 Internet Mail Size Limits

  I have unsuccessfully tried to increase per user incoming mail size settings by editing their user account settings on our Exchange server, but large incoming mail from external domains is still blocked using the default global settings. After reading here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;322679 I see that All Internet e-mail messages use the global setting for limits on sending and on receiving. The message categorizer evaluates the sender's sending limit and the recipient's receiving limit. In example 2 earlier, a user with a user mailbox limit of 3 MB could receive messages from another user with a 3-MB sending limit. Because Internet users use the global setting, they can send only a 2-MB message. Which to me is madness! Surely if I want to allow a user to receive mail up to a certain size then I should be able to set it as such? Is there a specific way of getting round this? Would setting the global defaults high and setting a lower, say 10MB, limit on the SMTP connector do the trick? Thanks.

• How to get rid of large gaps in text in MS Word

  When formatting a document such as a resume, MS Word often inserts a large gap in the text--sometimes as much as half a page of blank space. When I try to delete the gap, moving the cursor from the continued text after the gap, it skips over the gap as if it's not even there, and deletes text from the previous point in the document before the gap. I can't "grab" the gap or highlight/delete the gap in any way. Ideas??

  A friend has requested I convert an Arabic text .pdf into Word. Google Docs does not seem an option but new OCR looked promising because Arabic is featured in the 'Recognition language' dropdown. I have failed to get this to work beyond "Error! Text can not be recognized." even with only a few sample pages (111KB). I'd much appreciate any advice about what I am doing wrong at that site (or even how to access any help available there!) or pointing to other (free!) options that work with Arabic text (preferably that do not require registration and or large downloads). Anyone willing to help please? Note this .pdf does not have a text layer.

  I am having a issue I have never experienced until recently, I believe (hoping) it is just a setting I can change? The issue: When I left click and hold the left mouse button down and slide the mouse around to select text in a document or webpage, it works as far as selecting the text, however when I release the left button , it does not stop selecting more text. Instead I must hit the left button again to stop it from selecting more text. This is very annoying, at first I thought I just had a faulty mouse but I just bought a new mouse and it is the same problem. I am running windows 7 pro Please help, hoping it is something simple I overlooked?

I do not need, nor care about the order or structure, I just need all of the text from within the blocks.   Searching for answers about the "Clear Text Credential Access Enabled" field, I found a question on an oracle forum that was my exactly what I was trying to find out. Thinking that my answer would soon be found, I happily click on the link only to find zero replies. All hope was lost. I am posting the question here, hoping that someone on this site will know the answer. Can somebody please explain the usage of "Clear Text Credential Access Enabled" checkbox under "-Security-Advanced tab for Weblogic 11g? What is the difference if we set or unset this flag? If I dont set this flag I get an exception like "Access to sensitive attribute in clear text is not allowed due to the setting of ClearTextCredentialAccessEnabled attribute in SecurityConfigurationMBean" when I try to set a value for the "Credential" field. But what should be the value for "Credential" field if I dont set the "Clear Text Credential Access Enabled"flag?
