• ObjectContext.SaveChanges() fails with SQL CE

  I am creating a model-first Entity Framework 4 app that uses SQL CE as its data store. All is well until I call ObjectContext.SaveChanges() to save changes to the entities in the model. At that point, SaveChanges() throws a System.Data.UpdateException, with an inner exception message that reads as follows: Server-generated keys and server-generated values are not supported by SQL Server Compact. I am completely puzzled by this message. Any idea what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks. • Linq to sql DataContext cannot set load options after results been returned

  I have two tables A and B with a one-to-many relationship respectively. On some pages I would like to get a list of A objects only. On other pages I would like to load A with objects in B attached. This can be handled by setting the load options DataLoadOptions options = new DataLoadOptions(); options.LoadWith<A>(a => a.B); dataContext.LoadOptions = options; The trouble occurs when I first of all view all A's with load options, then go to edit a single A (do not use load options), and after edit return to the previous page. I understand why the error is occurring but not sure how to best get round this problem. I would like the DataContext to be loaded up per request. I thought I was achieving this by using StructureMap to load up my DataContext on a per request basis. This is all part of an n-tier application where my Controllers call Services which in turn call Repositories. ForRequestedType<MyDataContext>() .CacheBy(InstanceScope.PerRequest) .TheDefault.Is.Object(new MyDataContext()); ForRequestedType<IAService>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<AService>(); ForRequestedType<IARepository>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<ARepository>(); Here is a brief outline of my Repository public class ARepository : IARepository { private MyDataContext db; public ARepository(MyDataContext context) { db = context; } public void SetLoadOptions(DataLoadOptions options) { db.LoadOptions = options; } public IQueryable<A> Get() { return from a in db.A select a; } So my ServiceLayer, on View All, sets the load options and then gets all A's. On editing A my ServiceLayer should spin up a new DataContext and just fetch a list of A's. When sql profiling, I can see that when I go to the Edit page it is requesting A with B objects.

• Silverlight DataGrid's sort by column doesn't update programmatically changed cells

  For my first Silverlight app, I've written a program that sends user-supplied search strings to the Flickr REST API and displays the results in a DataGrid. The first column contains the title of the photo, while the second contains the text 'Click here to show image'. Clicks there call ShowPhoto(), which updates the Image element's Source property with a BitmapImage derived from the URI of the Flickr photo, and sets the image's visibility to Visible. Clicking on the image thus revealed hides it again. All of this was easy to implement and works perfectly. But whenever I click on one of the column headers to sort by that column, the cells that I've updated in this way do not change. The rest of the DataGrid is resorted and updated appropriately, but those cells remain behind, detached from the rest of their row. This is very strange, and not at all what I want. What am I doing wrong? Should I be freshening the DataGrid somehow in response to the sort event, and if so how? Or if I'm not supposed to be messing with the contents of the grid directly, what's the right way to get the behavior I want?

• Opening XNA Xbox 360 assemblies in Reflector

  I'd like to get a look at the differences between the Xbox 360 and Windows XNA assemblies. I know the 360 runs the .NET Compact Framework and I was under the impression that Reflector could read CF assemblies, but when I open them, all of the methods are blank and no internal classes are shown. Is this done on purpose, or is it a limitation of Reflector? Is there another way to see how the Xbox 360 XNA assemblies work?

• WPF Statusbar Updates - help, I seem to be going round in circles

  I seem to be going round in circles. I have a WPF application that has a main ribbon window with a status bar. When you navigate to a "view" a user control is displayed as the content of the main window. The view has a ViewModel which handles retrieving data from the database and the View's datacontext is set to the ViewModel. What I want is to have the lengthy operation (data retrieval) run on a background thread and whilst it is running the status in the main window to report appropriately. When the background task is complete, the status should revert back to "Ready" (much the same as Visual Studio). How should I wire this together so that I can have the data access code separated out in the ViewModel whilst keeping a responsive UI? I have tried using the BackgroundWorker is various places in the code and I still end up with an unresponsive UI.

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and VSS. Yes, I know VSS sucks. Hard. I'm attempting to force a move to TFS (since SVN integration with Expression and Sharepoint Designer is near impossible without forcing non-technical content managers to use TortoiseSVN), but that will not happen in the short term. I'm working with a local copy of the (classic ASP 3.0) site, and need to publish individual files to a web folder on our dev server whenever I check in a file so that the changes can be seen by other interested parties without having to publish from VSS. Does anyone know of a convenient way to add a post-commit script with VSS? It's acceptable for this script to run on my dev box (as opposed to the server), considering that VSS has no server to execute such actions.

• Convert C++Builder AnsiString to std::string via boost::lexical_cast

  For a school assignment I have to implement a project in C++ using Borland C++ Builder. As the VCL uses AnsiString for all GUI Components I have to convert all of my std::strings to AnsiString for the sake of displaying. std::string inp = "Hello world!"; AnsiString outp(inp.c_str()); works of course but is a bit tedious to write and code duplication I want to avoid. As we use Boost in other contexts I decided to provide some helper functions go get boost::lexical_cast to work with AnsiString. Here is my implementation so far: std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& istr, AnsiString& str) { istr.exceptions(std::ios::badbit | std::ios::failbit | std::ios::eofbit); std::string s; std::getline(istr,s); str = AnsiString(s.c_str()); return istr; } In the beginning I got Access Violation after Access Violation but since I added the .exceptions() stuff the picture gets clearer. When the conversion is performed I get the following Exception: ios_base::eofbit set [Runtime Error/std::ios_base::failure] Does anyone have an idea how to fix it and can explain why the error occurs? My C++ experience is very limited. • Linux policy routing - packets not coming back

  i am trying to set up policy routing on my home server. My network looks like this: Host routed VPN gateway Internet link through VPN 192.168.0.35/24 ---> 192.168.0.5/24 ---> 192.168.0.1 DSL router 10.200.2.235/22 .... .... 10.200.0.1 VPN server The traffic from 192.168.0.32/27 should be and is routed through VPN. I wanted to define some routing policies to route some traffic from 192.168.0.5 through VPN as well - for start - from user with uid 2000. Policy routing is done using iptables mark target and ip rule fwmark. The problem: When connecting using user 2000 from 192.168.0.5 tcpdump shows outgoing packets, but nothing comes back. Traffic from 192.168.0.35 works fine (here I am not using fwmark but src policy).   I've got a subclass of AdvancedDataGrid showing a tree-like data structure. How can I, given the index returned by calculateDropIndex, get the item at that index? After reading through reams of code, it seems like the least terrible way is: var oldSelectedIndex:int = this.selectedIndex; var mouseOverIndex:int = this.calculateDropIndex(event); this.selectedItem = mouseOverIndex; var item:* = this.selectedItem; this.selectedIndex = oldSelectedIndex; The other option seems to be tinkering around with the iterator property... But, judging by the way I've seen it used, that will get pretty harry pretty quickly too. So, how can I get the item at a particular index in an advanced datagrid without going insane?

• php curly braces groups

  is there a function or regex or anything to group items by a { and } tag? so it should group items by the opening tag { and the closing tag }. but be careful, there are also groups inside parent groups like so: group { text1 group2 { text2 } } so basically think of it like php, you make an opening tag, you need to close it with a closing tag, curly braces in php's case. i just need it to like substr() each group into an associative array somehow, except I cant figure it out with the whole, "group inside a parent group".

• Remove clear button (grey x) to the right of UISearchBar when cancel button tapped

  Right, to begin my question, here's some screenies of the problem already solved by the Spotify app: Spotify's Step 1: Standard UISearchBar not in editing mode. Spotify's Step 2: UISearchBar now in editing mode. Search term entered. Cancel button slides in from the right, and the clear button (grey x) appears. Spotify's Step 3: Cancel button pressed; keyboard slides out and the search bar is no longer in editing mode. Search term remains and the grey x button is now hidden. At present, the following code fires off when my cancel button is pressed: - (void)searchBarCancelButtonClicked:(UISearchBar *)searchBar { [searchBar resignFirstResponder]; [searchBar setShowsCancelButton:NO animated:YES]; } Which results in: My Step 3: Search bar now not in editing mode. Cancel button and keyboard has slid out. Search term remains but so does the grey x. So, my question is this: given that -resignFirstResponder (and -endEditing:, FYI) does not hide the grey x button when a search bar has had text entered into it, how does one hide it?   i need to create a Dojo widget that lets users specify date & time. i found a sample implementation attached to an entry in the Dojo bug tracker. It looks nice and mostly works, but when i submit the form, the value sent by the client is not the user-selected value but the value sent from the server. What changes do i need to make to get the widget to submit the date & time value? Sample usage is to render a JSP with basic HTML tags (form & input), then dojo.addOnLoad a function which selects the basic elements by ID, adds dojoType attribute, and dojo.parser.parse()-es the page.
