• SSRS 2008 printing single page renders different for print

  I have a problem with SSRS 2008 reports rendering differently on the reporting server than the way it renders when you print the report. I’m trying to figure out to print a single page and have the print show that same records as I see on the report on the screen. As a test, I created a simple report with no headers or footers and just added a Tablix table to display the records (no groupings). My data set for this test displays 2 ¼ pages of records when I deploy it to our reporting services server and run it. If I click the print Icon and preview the report is 2 ¾ pages. I haven’t found anything searching on this so it makes me think it is something simple I’m missing. A basically want the report to render the same records on each page in Report Manager as it does when it prints, how do I accomplish this? (In response to answer posted by Chris)…If that is the case then it is disappointing. Customers are accustomed to WYSIWYG and will have a hard time understanding that, I imagine we will be getting a lot of support calls. This still leaves an issue. I tried using print preview and could not find any way to single out a page. If I select a page up front to print, or preview it renders different so I get different records. And if I preview the entire document, I can only print the entire document. You mentioned the Excel render; we have customers that will want that also. The problem I have found with Excel exports is that even a basic report winds up merging some cells and that messes up sorting. I’m going to try your tip about grouping to see if I can get a clean export to a page. It would have been nice if they would have created a property for certain controls like the tablix table called “ExcelSheet”. Then all you would have to do is give it a name and it would create a new sheet for each control with a name, the name becoming the sheet title. Update 02/19/2010 After testing this more I now realize it is just a bad design of Report managers print driver or a limitation because it is server based. The options work differently than Windows apps drivers, But I did find a work around. Here is the test I performed comparing Excel to Report Manager. I bring up a report that will render more than 1 page when printed. I then export to Excel, in Excel I select print preview. I can navigate the pages in preview and then select a single page like page 3. I can then print just page 3 without leaving print preview and it prints just like it rendered. I cannot do this using print in report manager. If I select print preview in report manager then try to print while in preview it always prints the entire document. However if I close out of print preview, I can then select page 3 and print it as rendered. It is just one additional step once you know what to do, but it took some time to figure it out.

• Handling a Long Running jsp request on the server using Ajax and threads

  I am trying to implement a solution for a long running process on the server where it is taking about 10 min to process a pdf generation request. The browser bored/timesout at the 5 mins. I was thinking to deal with this using a Ajax and threads. I am using regular javascript for ajax. But I am stuck with it. • Tool or library for end-users to run queries to select (not modify) data?

  For a utility I'm working on, the client would like to be able to generate graphic reports on the data that has been collected. I can already generate a couple canned graphs (using ZedGraph, which is a very nice library); however, the utility would be much more flexible if the graphs were more programmable or configurable by the end-user. TLDR version I want users to be able to use something like SQL to safely extract and select data from a List of objects that I provide and can describe. What free tools or libraries will help me accomplish this? Full version I've given thought to using IronPython, IronRuby, and LuaInterface, but frankly they're all a bit overpowered for what I want to do. My classes are fairly simple, along the lines of: class Person: string Name; int HeightInCm; DateTime BirthDate; Weight[] WeighIns; class Weight: int WeightInKg; DateTime Date; Person Owner; (exact classes have been changed to protect the innocent). To come up with the data for the graph, the user will choose whether it's a bar graph, scatter plot, etc., and then to actually obtain the data, I would like to obtain some kind of List from the user simply entering something SQL-ish along the lines of SELECT Name, AVG(WeighIns) FROM People SELECT WeightInKg, Owner.HeightInCm FROM Weights And as a bonus, it would be nice if you could actually do operations as well: SELECT WeightInKg, (Date - Owner.BirthDate) AS Age FROM Weights The DSL doesn't have to be compliant SQL in any way; it doesn't even have to resemble SQL, but I can't think of a more efficient descriptive language for the task. I'm fine filling in blanks; I don't expect a library to do everything for me. I'm using C# 3.5, and pure .NET solutions would be preferred. The bottom line is that I'm really trying to avoid writing my own parser for a subset of SQL that would only apply to this single project.

  hi all, i am a newbie to javascript... i have two select boxes with multiple selection enabled.When i select an element from first select box it scrolls into view the corrosponding element from the second list.The single selection goes fine in all browsers explorer,firefox,chrome. now, if i select the first,last element from the first selection box the second select box does not scrolls into view the last selected element in chrome browser.although , it works fine in internet explorer and firefox. I just get the 'contact information' h1 header from the header template. I've tested the value of s in sqlsms and it works fine. Position, surname, telephone, fax, email all exist in the db. The particular page I am checking exists and has 1 set of contact information attached. Where am I going wrong? Thanks! ps. Does my syntax appear correct? pps. I am also open to different ways of achieving the same result. I tried via an sqldatasource but ran into problems when using variables as params (there is no option to select them, only controls, querystring etc)

• How to Load In Content with jQuery?

  Hello, I am trying to add ajax functionality to my pagination so the content loads in the same page instead of the user having to navigate to another page when clicking the page links. I should mention that I am using this php pagination class. Being new to jquery, I am unsure of how to properly do this with the pagination class. • Attaching functions to elements in a loop

  I have the following HTML and JavaScript it works for the first set of elements when I have a '1' in the selector but when I replace the '1' with an 'i' it doesn't attach itself to any of the elements.   Hi, I want to disable a set of checkbox based on selection of one textbox and enable the disabled ones if the checkbox is unchecked. In the code below. If someone checks the checkbox for project cost under change this parameter then checkbox for project cost under Generate simulated value for this param should be disabled and all the checkboxes under change this parameter should be disabled except for checked one. Similarly this should be done each parameter like Project cost,avg hours,Project completion date, hourly rate etc. One way i could think of was of on the click function disable each checkbox by the id.   thanks in advance for all your help! i'm fairly new to javascript, but i have a fairly strong background in java, so i thought i would try it out on this project i'm working on. essentially, what i'm trying to do is read data from an xml file and create the html code for the page i'm making. i used the script from w3schools found here. • "Too much recursion" error when loading the same page with a hash

  Hi, I have a site w/ an image gallery ("Portfolio") page. There is drop-down navigation that allows a user to view a specific image in the portfolio from any page on the site. The links in the navigation use a hash, and that hash is read and converted into a string of an image filename. The image src attribute on the /portfolio/ page is then swapped out with the new image filename. This works fine if I'm clicking the dropdown link from a page OTHER THAN the /portfolio/ page itself. However if I take the same action from the /portfolio/ page, I get a "too much recursion" error in Firefox. However, if there are no items in a select list, it shrinks in size horizontally. Any way to keep the select list a fixed size, irrespective of whether it contains any options or not ?
