  • netsh wlan add profile not importing encrypted passphrase

    I exported a wireless network connection profile from a Windows 7 machine correctly connected to a WiFi network with a WPA-TKIP passphrase. The exported xml file shows the correct settings and a keyMaterial node which I can only guess is the encrypted passphrase. When I take the xml to another Windows 7 computer and import it using netsh wlan add profile filename="WiFi.xml", it correctly adds the profile's SSID and encryption type, but a balloon pops up saying that I need to enter the passphrase. Is there a way to import the passphrase along with all other settings or am I missing something about adding profiles?   • Mounting a share with spaces in FreeBSD fstab

    I'm trying to mount a smb network share in fstab on FreeBSD, which works fine for a share without spaces, but fails if a space is in the name. I have replaced the space with \040 which is what everything on google has said, but that didn't help. Share name I'm trying to mount is "Data Backups". Share name as written in fstab that doesn't work: //USERNAME@COMPUTER/Data\040Backups Any suggestions?

  • What is the difference between Anycast and GeoDNS / GeoIP wrt HA?

    Based on the Wikipedia description of Anycast, it includes both the distribution of a domain-name-to-many-IP-mapping across many DNS servers as well as replying to clients with the most geographically close (or fastest) server. In the context of a globally distributed, highly available site like google.com (or any CDN service with many global edge locations) this sounds like the two key features one would need. DNS services like Amazon's Route53, EasyDNS and DNSMadeEasy all advertise themselves as Anycast-enabled networks. Therefore my assumption is that each of these DNS services transparently offer me those two killer features: multi-IP-to-domain mapping AND routing clients to the closest node. However, each of these services seem to separate out these two functionalities, referring to the 2nd one (routing clients to closest node) as "GeoDNS", "GeoIP" or "Global Traffic Director" and charge extra for the service. If a core tenant of an Anycast-capable system is to already do this, why is this functionality being earmarked as this extra feature? What is this "GeoDNS" feature doing that a standard Anycast DNS service won't do (according to the definition of Anycast from Wikipedia -- I understand what is being advertised, just not why it isn't implied already). I get extra-confused when a DNS service like Route53 that doesn't support this nebulous "GeoDNS" feature lists functionality like: Fast – Using a global anycast network of DNS servers around the world, Route 53 is designed to automatically route your users to the optimal location depending on network conditions. As a result, the service offers low query latency for your end users, as well as low update latency for your DNS record management needs. ... which sounds exactly like what GeoDNS is intended to do, but geographically directing clients is something they explicitly don't support it yet. Ultimately I am looking for the two following features from a DNS provider: Map multiple IP addresses to a single domain name (like google.com, amazon.com, etc. does) Utilize a DNS service that will respond to client requests for that domain with the IP address of the nearest server to the requestee. As mentioned, it seems like this is all part of an "Anycast" DNS service (all of which these services are), but the features and marketing I see from them suggest otherwise, making me think I need to learn a bit more about how DNS works before making a deployment choice.   • Apple Airport Extreme and PS3/PSP remote play

    I have not been able to get remote play over internet working through my AEBS. I have fiddled around with countless settings and also tried to telnet into the router, to no avail. The setup works fine inside the netowrk (I can remotely turn on my PS3 wirelessly using my PSP). However, outside the home network I cannot get it to work. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Backup Exec 11D and Thecus N5200 Pro

    I have a Thecus N5200 Pro integrated into my Windows 2003 AD network. My current backup solution involves Backup Exec 11D but this requires a running service for windows boxes or a similar daemon for linux machines. The N5200 runs a custom linux kernel but as of yet I am unable to add it to my backups through Backup Exec. Does anyone know of a method of backing up directly from the N5200 to Backup Exec without moving the data to an intermediary for archiving?

This configuration runs Windows 7 Ultimate very smoothly, but now I recently signed up to the MS WebSiteSpark programme and have downloaded the Windows Server 2008 R2. So my question is whether I can use the Server Edition for my day to day use, play games, etc etc??     Can't get this to work at all! I'm trying to get this linux box to act as a transparent proxy and, with the help of DHCP, force everyone on the network to gate into the proxy. I have two ethernet connections, both to the same switch. And I'm trying to get 192.168.1.234 to become the default gateway. The actual WAN connection is to a gateway 192.168.1.1. eth0 is 192.168.1.234 eth1 is 192.168.1.2 Effectively I'm trying to make eth0 a LAN only interface and eth1 a WAN interface. I've oi should set the gateway for eth1 to point to 192.168.1.234 my squid.conf file has the following directives added at the bottom: nly set eth0 to have a gateway address in /etc/network/interfaces I'm not sure whether http_port 3128 transparent acl lan src 192.168.1.0/24 acl lh src 127.0.0.1/255.255.255.0 http_access allow lan http_access allow lh i've added the following routing commands: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.2:3128 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 3128 I set a computer with TCP settings 192.168.1.234 as the gateway and opened up google.com, but it comes up with a request error.   • iis not listening on port 80

    We have server 2003 and ISA 2004 with IIS 6 on same machnie. Everything worked well till yesterday, when we try to make some new rule in ISA..but this is a long story... Unfortunatelly something happend with our intranet site. Our site is on the port 80, but if we try to open on this client machines then we got and error page (which error page is our provider): 403-forbidden; Remote host not listening, the remote host is not prepared to acceppt the connection request. On the server i can open the site with port 80. If i change the port number in the iis and try to open the site with the port, then works well. I try to shut down IIS and start apache with a simple page. On the server works well but in clients the problem is the same, so i think this is not an IIS related problem. In the ISA we have a web pub rule, with port 80, no auth. Im pulling out my hair, please help. after uninstall and reinstall ISA, de sites work well, till i configure the upstream proxy in the conf/network/web chaining menu and then everything went same... So something wrong with the web-proxy / upstream function... (all my http request forward to my upstream proxy). That was the set long time ago...but a few day ago somehing went wrong... I think maybee our ISP spoiled something..tomorrow i try to figure out... But one more thing: I make a new rule before the default rule in the conf/network/web chaining menu. Every request go to the server not redirected.. Redirect to upstream server.... So if the request goes to our server (our site) then handled locally, and if not then go to upstream proxy and voilllaaa....i tougth... But unfortunatelly: our website work well, but internet work extreamly slowly..:( Maybee with single adapter i can made this? I have to handle all request locally or i have to send all to upstream? I cant filter it?

    I have a share setup on a NAS server with ripped versions of my DVDs. I pointed the Windows 7 version of the Windows Media Center Movie Library feature to the network share and it's able to find and play all my movies when running Windows Media Center from the local computer. When I try this on my Xbox 360 extender it never discovers any of my movies. Anyone able to get this to work?

Is it possible to define only the allowed hosts in any way? PS: I know FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox does this, but 1)I don't use Firefox and 2)I want the proxy settings system wide not only for browser.

    I've come across a situation where a client needs to blacklist a set of just under 1 million individual IP addresses (no subnets), and network performance is a concern. While I would conjecture that IPTables rules would have less of a performance impact than routes, that's just conjecture. Does anyone have any solid evidence or other justification for favoring either IPTables or null routing as solution for blacklisting long lists of IP addresses? In this case everything is automated, so ease-of-use isn't really a concern.
