  • Run Tomcat Service as Different User on Windows 7

    I have installed Tomcat6 using the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer download version. In the setup instructions, it is recommended that "For optimal security, the service should be run as a separate user, with reduced permissions". I created a new local/standard user (Tomcat) to run the service. The Tomcat service is listed in my list of Services and it's running under my user profile. However, I can't figure out how to set/change which user to start it as.

  • Transaction issue in java with hibernate - latest entries not pulled from database

    Hi, I'm having what seems to be a transactional issue in my application. I'm using Java 1.6 and Hibernate 3.2.5. My application runs a monthly process where it creates billing entries for a every user in the database based on their monthly activity. These billing entries are then used to create Monthly Bill object. The process is: Get users who have activity in the past month Create the relevant billing entries for each user Get the set of billing entries that we've just created Create a Monthly Bill based on these entries Everything works fine until Step 3 above. The Billing Entries are correctly created (I can see them in the database if I add a breakpoint after the Billing Entry creation method), but they are not pulled out of the database. As a result, an incorrect Monthly Bill is generated. If I run the code again (without clearing out the database), new Billing Entries are created and Step 3 pulls out the entries created in the first run (but not the second run). This, to me, is very confusing.   • Diagnostic Policy does not run

    I have got a starange error on another pc that runs windows vista. The problem seems to be that the Diagnostic policy does not manage to run. Therefor I can not find out why it can not run.I have tried to start it manually with no luck, with an error code thar say that you have no permission. Since Diagnostic policy does not run, I am not able to connect to the internet. Can somebody please help me?

    Date ranges including BC dates is this possible? I would like to return facets for all years between 11000 BCE (BC) and 9000 BCE (BC) using SOLR.   • Very slow printing from print server

    Print server is a VM on Xen The VM is Windows 2003 32bit. During the issue the VM is not being taxed in anyway, cpu, memory, hd read/write, and network speed is all good. The problem that I see is the transfer of the print file from the print server to the printer. The 80Mb file is transferred from the client to the print server in about 2 minutes but then it takes about 2 hours for that file to be sent to the printer. I can't figure out why this would just start to happen. The printer is rebooted every evening and is just used for one large print job in the morning. The server has been rebooted with no effect I changed the spool option to send the entire spool to the server before printing starts and it had no effect. This printer problem did happen to come about after some changes to the Xen environment. The Xen servers changed from using HBA NIC cards to software iscsi and a new switch was put in. I don't think this is related to the problem since all the speeds on the VMs are better now. The changed happened on Saturday and the first print to this printer happened on Monday morning. I'm just putting that out there but like I said I don't think it is related but I don't want to rule it out. At this point I don't have many other options besides the physical layer. I can switch out network cable that goes to the printer and I might be able to print the same job to another printer. I wont be able to test those things out till this afternoon though. Any other ideas or test I could do to try to find the reason for the slow speed? I forgot to say that this is only happening when printing to this one printer. ===Update=== I found out that there are a few printers that currently have this issue, not just the one. There are over 30 printers on the server though so I know it's not happening to all of them. I printed a large pdf doc from the server and it was able to print at the normal speed. If the machine sends the large print request it gets to the server fine but then slow to get from the server to the printer. If sent directly from the printer it gets to the printer at the normal speed. The question now is why is there a speed difference when it comes from the machine and why would it start now?

    I have two primary audio outputs on my machine: The speakers and a USB headset. Currently, in Windows 7 Professional x64, I type "sound" in the Start search menu to open up this dialog: I only care about the top two options for the purposes of this question. I would like to know if there's a way in AutoHotKey to switch from "Speakers (4- Sennheiser USB Headset)" to "Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio)" so I can avoid having to open this dialog every time I wish to switch.     We bought some new PCs in my company with the new iCore 7 and 8GB memory and the following hard disk: WESTERN DIGITAL WD8000AARS 800GB CAVIAR GREEN SATA2 The problem we have is that after installing windows XP64 SP2 the write speed of the hard disk is extremely low!. The windows system monitor shows that the Average Disk queue length is always at 100% and a winzip extract of 350mb takes about 8min. Is there any idea on where to start looking for the cause of that? Thanks

  • How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files

    Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this.   • System Centre Essentials 2007 Clients Losing Status

    Clients that have been reporting their state fine suddenly start reporting "Windows 0.0" for their OS and "Not yet contacted" for their Last Contacted date even though previously these values were present and correct.   • Virtual Machine Library not updating

    Hi, I have a problem with my library window. I use to have a XP VM, which I deleted and now have a Vista VM. Every time I start Fusion, the XP VM shortcut will still be in the library (File not found), and the Vista VM won't be. I have tried re-installing Fusion but the same XP shortcut keeps coming up. Fusion doesn't seem to be updating the list of VM I currently have for some reason. Any ideas? Lots of thanks Jeremy

It should delete a block of text between the two patterns. The problem is that if I run the sed command directly from shell it works, if i run the script the return code is 0. Why's that?

  • System Reserved partition no longer marked as System

    I recently posted a question to Super User about accidentally marking my external HDD's partition as Active and how I could undo my accidental mistake. I followed the instructions provided and they worked fine. This involved some command line magic and from what I understand, I did not have to really do this, but I just wanted to get things back to how they were originally. After making the fix things went back to normal in disk management. After I restarted my computer though i had an issue: BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Rugh roh! I brought my laptop to work so I could search for a solution on my work computer and I found a nice guide on fixing the issue. To summarize the instructions, I had to reboot with my Windows 7 install disc and click the Repair button. Once there I could then repair the start-up options. One of the commenters on the site claimed you need to do this twice, as the first time the "repair" doesn't actually fix it. I found this to be true as well. I tried to repair it and it did some work, then rebooted. I then got the same error again. I booted from the CD again and repaired the start-up options then after this second time Windows started to boot up. Before the restart I got a nice info window telling me that it did make repairs to the boot info (this was promising). I've been using Windows 7 for a few days now with no problem, but I just recently noticed that I now can see the System Reserved partition in Computer: (click for full size) I immediately went to disk management to see what was up. I noticed that my System Reserved partition is no longer marked as System and instead I believe the repair operation made my C: drive the system partition. I'm not fully aware of what the System partition really is but I briefly read that its a Windows 7 thing that gets created on install of Win7 that writes some BitLocker encryption stuff to a isolated partition as well as some boot files. (click for full size) How can I undo this and make the System Partition marked as System instead of my OS C: partition? How can I make it so that I don't see this partition in Computer (I believe fixing #1 will fix this) What are the implications of what the current state is and the fact that I can now browse into this new partition?   • SQL Server 2008 - Error starting service - model.mdf not found?!

    my SQL server 2008 was running fine. About an hour ago, it suddenly stopped - the MSSQLSERVER service had stopped I right clicked, clicked start, and it said the service had started, and stopped I looked in the event log and saw these two errors: 17207 : udopen: Operating system error 3(error not found) during the creation/opening of physical device C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\model.mdf. 17204 : FCB::Open failed: Could not open device C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\model.mdf for virtual device number (VDN) 1. The model.mdf db has NEVER been in that location - i specified drive F: to use for data / log during install. I checked the SQL Configuration Manager, to try and set startup params, but SQL Server is not listed as one of the services..... EDIT: I've now moved the db to where it was looking for: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\ directory. Now if I start the service, it still does not work - i get this error message in the log: Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 3, object ID 1, index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes. Interestingly, i checked the error log - around the time users reported problems, there is this: 2010-01-08 17:11:26.44 spid51 Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 0 to 1.
