• Add a Carriage Return to the Output of an XSL Transformation

  I am trying to use XSLT to convert an XML document to a text file and the text of the document looks fine. However, I need to add a carriage return after the end of each line (NOT A CRLF) and I seem to be failing in every attempt. I have tried adding just a CR at the end of the line like this: <xsl:text>&#xD;</xsl:text> I have tried changing my media-type to string, I have tried to add the disable-output-escaping attribute to the text element, but it always adds a CRLF. This is on a Windows OS and I know that Windows uses CRLF for a new line, but I would have thought you could override that if you said to specifically use only the CR or the LF (e.g. VB.net's VBCR or VBLF). Does anyone know if it is possible to only output a CR with XSLT? Thanks in advance.

• Does the order I declare pointers really matter in C? getcwd() problem...

  On a Solaris 5.8 machine, I have the following code: [non-working code] char *buf; char *dir; size_t psize; psize = (size_t) 1024; dir = getcwd(buf, psize); On this unix machine, the above does not work and I get a segmentation fault when trying to run the program. It only works if I declare dir before buf: [working code] char *dir; char *buf; ... dir = getcwd(buf, psize); When using another flavor of Unix, such as Mac OS X, I don't get any of these what seem to be very strict rules on how to write the code. Can anyone explain what's going on with the above example? Thanks!

• Shoes and Gems and how to get them working.

  I have seen this question asked all over the internet and answered in many different ways. None of them seem to be working for me. I am trying to get Gems to work in Shoes (specifically the gem Mechanize). Whenever I use the code: Shoes.setup do gem 'mechanize' end require 'mechanize' It gives me the popup that says it is installing native extensions and sits at that screen for 30 minutes and longer (I've only ever waited as long as 30 minutes). I have seen people say that you should be putting the .gem files in ~/.shoes/+gem/gem (on OS X) but that hasn't worked for me. Neither has putting the source code for the gem there. On another odd note, both the gems RedCloth and Nokogiri come with Shoes...but using the above code for them gets me No such file to load errors for both of them. Anyone have any expertise in this area and can help me out?

• I'm installing mysql with homebrew, how do I set value to 'log_output'?

  I've been following directions here: brew install mysql on mac os and have now run into the same issue both on my home machine and work (both MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.5 and ZSH): 121031 12:18:03 [ERROR] /usr/local/opt/mysql/bin/mysqld: Error while setting value '/Users/me/.mysql/logs/' to 'log_output' The full output of the error can be found in this gist: https://gist.github.com/3988275 I'm really at a loss for what I'm doing incorrectly or what I need to change. It should be noted that there are no logs for me to check in /usr/local/var/mysql. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• How do you implement syntax highlighting?

  I am embarking on some learning and I want to write my own syntax highlighting for files in C++. Can anyone give me ideas on how to go about doing this? To me it seems that when a file is opened: It would need to be parsed and decided what type of source file it is. Trusting the extension might not be fool-proof A way to know what keywords/commands apply to what language A way to decide what color each keyword/command gets I want to do this on OS X, using C++ or Objective-C. Can anyone provide pointers on how I might get started with this?

Also I haven't seen any tags for the ZDK so please edit if something is more fitting!

  Hi, I have setup for Android development with 1.5 SDK on Mac O.S X - Eclipse 3.5. I want to upgrade the SDK, so as i followed to choose Window-Android SDK and AVD Manager from Eclipse. But it throws error as follows: XML verification failed for https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml. Error: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'sdk:sdk- repository'. Failed to fetch URL I tried "http" instead of https, but still getting the same error. I don't know why such crap error comes. If i see Android website, http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-CN/sdk/index.html its confusing.   I have an application that needs to operate on Windows 2000. I'd also like to use Visual Studio 2010 (mainly because of the change in the definition of the auto keyword). However, I'm in a bit of a bind because I need the app to be able to operate on older OS's, namely: Windows 2000 Windows XP RTM Windows XP SP1 Visual Studio 2010's runtime library depends on the EncodePointer / DecodePointer API which was introduced in Windows XP SP2. If using the alternate runtime library is possible, will this break code that relies on C++0x features added in VS2010, like std::regex?

• undefined local variable or method 'acts_as_gmappable'

  I attempted to install the gmaps4rails gem. I added gem 'gmaps4rails' to my Gemfile, and ran 'bundle install. It said that my bundle installed successfully. I can find "Using gmaps4rails (0.8.8)" with 'gem list'. I added the specified columns to my users table with rake db:migrate and added acts_as_gmappable and the gmaps4rails_address method to my User model. Visiting pages that involve the user model gives me "undefined local variable or method 'acts_as_gmappable'"error. Is there something that I am missing? For greater context, the code I am using is from the Rails 3 Tutorial. OS X 10.6.6 ruby 1.8.7 rails 3.0.7 passenger 3.0.7

• Float Issue in IE

  Ok I am making a simulated OS type interface. It should open up windows and have a drag handle. This all works perfectly. Then I added a image for an exit button I floated to the right... this made IE mad and IE screwed with the sizing and positioning =[ I've tried a crap load of things. None of which work.   Twitter client (formerly Tweetie) allows you to define a bookmarklet in Safari that launches the app. I want to know which iPhone API allows you to register the protocol specifier (or whatever it's called) - in this case "tweetie:" - in order for this bookmarklet to work. The instructions can be found here and the bookmarklet itself is below. javascript:window.location='tweetie:'+window.location Clicking the above bookmark is the same as typing in "tweetie:http://google.com" into the address bar. This is obviously supported on the OS/Browser level, much the same as tel: URIs. Am I correct in understanding that developers can add arbitrary URI protocol specifiers as a part of app installation?

• iPhone filesystem POSIX-compliant?

  Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

• Automatic setting of Local Time zone w/DST

  I can derive latitude and longitude and UTC time from GPS NMEA sentences. Now, how can I automaticly adjust the Windows local time zone on my PC (2003 Server OS), based on this? Also, Is there an easy way of distributing this to clients based on code or apps software? Preferred programming environment is .NET, C# & Visual Studio. I use a GPS Time server (GPS clock with antenna) today, but this could not support other than UTC. I want to set computers in my TCP/UDP network to correct time zone w/DST based on coordinates derived from GPS, so manually setting of all is not required.

• Accidentally deleted /opt/local/bin without backup. Any help?

  Hi all, I'm on a Mac OS X 10.5.8 I was recently uninstalling mysql5 from /opt/local/bin. I typed: rm -rf /opt/local/bin mysql* instead of rm -rf /opt/local/bin/mysql* This deleted my entire /opt/local/bin directory which puts me in a bit of a bind. Is there any way to recover these files? If not, I have a friend that is using a similar set of programs, would it be possible to use the contents of his folder? If I end up needing to re-install everything in this folder, what is the best way to go about doing this? Thanks in advance!

  Firstly, I am not at all familiar with windows batch file programing. Recently I am curious about how tomcat sets itself as a windows service using a batch file. I downloaded the service.bat file from tomcat 6. However, I still don't understand some part of it. I guess this is the line that the batch actually register the exe file to the OS, is it right? Is there any syntax explanation?   How can I get a list of the IP addresses or host names from a local network easily in Python? It would be best if it was multi-platform, but it needs to work on Mac OS X first, then others follow. Edit: By local I mean all active addresses within a local network, such as 192.168.xxx.xxx. So, if the IP address of my computer (within the local network) is 192.168.1.1, and I have three other connected computers, I would want it to return the IP addresses 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4, and possibly their hostnames.

  When running a test using the Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase I'm getting a stack trace that isn't related to the test. The test is passing so this is probably happening on the test clean up? I'm using Python 2.7.2, Tornado 2.2. • Is there an IDE that provides code completion for Python

  I am quite fond of the Intellisense code completion baked into Microsoft Visual Studio. I find that I only type 2 to 4 characters of any given keyword which drasticaly speeds up my coding. Now that I have been spending time writing some Python code I find myself reaching for ctrl+space. Are there any IDEs that support code completion in Python? I do my python development on a Mac so an OS x tool would be preferable. It seems like the doc string property of Python methods is a perfect match for inline API discovery.

  When I run this test code on my development machine it works as expected. CF9.01 I am in europe using euro date format so 10/09/1957 is 10th Sept 1957. <cfset testDate="10/09/1957"> <cfoutput> Initial string = "#testDate#"<br> LSparsedatetime output = #lsparsedatetime(session.form.patientDOB)#<br> parsedatetime output = #parsedatetime(session.form.patientDOB)# </cfoutput> Output on test machine is Initial string = "10/09/1957" LSparsedatetime output = {ts '1957-09-10 00:00:00'} parsedatetime output = {ts '1957-10-09 00:00:00'} Same code , output on live server is Initial string = "10/09/1957" LSparsedatetime output = {ts '1957-10-09 00:00:00'} parsedatetime output = {ts '1957-10-09 00:00:00'} Server OS is Windows Web Server 2008 R2. I checked Control panel date and time setting and it is correctly set to London. Web server is IIS7 but I don't think that would affect anything? IN region and Language, location is set to United Kingdom and in Administrative (change system locale ) it is also correct as English (United Kingdom)
