    I want to define bash functions and aliases in my remote shell automatically on login. I can't put the definitions into .profile or similar because the users I log in as are often shared with others who use the same systems and I don't have control of this. What I'm trying to do is execute a few bash function definitions in the remote process and then continue as a login shell.     Has anyone been able to get BZR working on a mounted AFT or SMB mounted share? I've tried both (The AFP volume is actually coming off an Xserver.) and neither work. I have BZR 2.0.0 and am running it on a Mac with 10.5. I keep getting an error like this bzr: ERROR: Could not acquire lock "/Volumes/joeserver/Documents/bzr/remote_test/.bzr/checkout/dirstate": [Errno 45] Operation not supported I googled around a bit but only found a fairly stale (2007) bug report on launchad.com (Bug #313625 to be specific.) Any ideas?

    My mysql installation was screwed up. I uninstalled and installed it multiple times. But I kept getting a hang or a error "cant connect". I now finally have it running with sudo -u mysql mysqld. How do I get mysqld to run at startup, and why do I need to run it as user mysql. Can I change it to run as root ?     I am in the process of following a guide to setup various oracle vm templates, so far I have installed OVS 2. 2 and got the OVM Manager working, imported the template for OEL5U5 and created a vm from it.. the problem comes when starting that vm.   • Migrate data from one server to another using rsync

    I'm moving from one VPS to another, and I figured that the simplest way to transfer data would be rsync. However, the data is owned by a user, www-data, which doesn't have ssh privileges, and I'd like it to be owned by the same (named) user on the target machine. Obviously I need all file permissions preserved. I have SSH access via another user with sudo privileges on both machines. Is this possible to do this with rsync?

Before its fine i can ping google.co.uk after cant get out. Is there something wrong in my syntax here or what is the issue...? Im just trying to NAT my VPN so i can get internet access.     I have to create a word document in a specific format and send it as attachment to some email addresses. I have a preview screen for the report which on approval has to be send in email. This is an ASP.NET MVC 3 application. I am left with a few options here. I am creating the preview using html. I can convert this html into doc and send it, which would be a straight solution. But capturing the Response object's output is being a tough job. I thought of using Mail merge functionality of MS word, where I'll be filling the placeholders of the doc template. But the problem is conceptually, it doesn't appear to be mail merge. I have found someone suggesting to use RTF format and replace the placeholders with database values. Which is the right thing to do? What's the best solution here? Is there any other option than the three listed above?

  • Scheduling Automatic Backups for Virtual Private Web Server running CENTOS 6.3 and WHM

    I'm pretty new to administering my own VPS - but thus far am finding it quite a compelling experience. There's something quite refreshing about having complete control over everything it does. One thing that I would like to look at is a suitable backup solution (a few times a day). My current setup is as follows: I'm running a CENTOS 6.3 VPS with a single 25GB hard drive solely for the purpose of hosting websites. I'm using WHM & cPanel for administering them. I now plan on adding an additional hard disk and hooking it up to my VPS. What I'm not sure about is how I get the two disks talking and get the backup process going. I'm not a seasons SSH-er so don't really know where to start. I'm hosting with Serverlove (one of the best hosting providers I've used) and am provided with a number of unique identifiers for each hard disk so I imagine these may play a part in linking them together. I appreciate that this is a little vague (I'm clutching at straws) but any assistance is very much appreciated.

    Cool little trick to determine which sql query which is taking a long time to execute, first while offending query is running from another machine do EXEC sp_who2 Locate the SPID responsible via Login, DBName and ProgramName columns, then do DBCC INPUTBUFFER (<SPID>) The offending query will be in the EventInfo column.  This is a great little time saver for me, before I found out about this I used to split my concatenated query script in to multiple sql files until I located the problem query

  • Using public interfaces on a server connected through a GRE tunnel

    I'm pretty new to networking so please forgive any terminology mistakes. I have 2 servers connected with a GRE tunnel. Server1 (10.0.0.1) ---- Server2 (10.0.0.2) I want to be able to bind to the public IPs on Server2 using Server1. To do this, I setup virtual interfaces with Server2's public IPs on Server1 and then used routing rules on Server1 to route the packets through the GRE tunnel. On Server1: ip rule add from [Server2's first public IP] table gre ip rule add from [Server2's second public IP] table gre ip route add default via 10.0.0.2 dev gre1 table gre This works great and I can see the packets arriving via GRE on Server2. I can see the packet exiting the tunnel on Server2's gre1 device as shown: From Server1: ping -I [Server2's public ip] google.com tcpdump from Server2's GRE tunnel device: 12:07:17.029160 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 0, offset 0, flags [DF], proto ICMP (1), length 84) [Server2's public ip] > 74.125.225.38: ICMP echo request, id 6378, seq 50, length 64 This is exactly the packet I want. However, I'm not seeing it go out at all on eth0:0 (where Server2's public IP is bound to). I've tried to use routing rules to get packets coming from Server2's public IP (which would be coming out of dev gre1) to go through dev eth0 on the public default gateway and that doesn't work either. I'm at a loss, thank you to anyone who can help.
