• Chrome and Firefox not able to find some sites after Ubuntu's recent update?

  Loading of revision3.com in Chrome stops and status saying "waiting for static.inplay.tubemogul.com" grooveshark.com in Chrome never loads But wikipedia.org, google.com works just normal same behavior in Firefox too. I use wired DSL connection in Ubuntu 12.04. I guess this started happening after I upgraded the Chrome browser or Flash plugin few days ago from Ubuntu updates through update-manager. Thanks EDIT: Everything works normal in my WinXP. Problem is only in Ubuntu 12.04. • Strange Flash AS3 xml Socket behavior

  I have a problem which I can't understand. To understand it I wrote a socket client on AS3 and a server on python/twisted, you can see the code of both applications below. Let's launch two clients at the same time, arrange them so that you can see both windows and press connection button in both windows. Then press and hold any button. What I'm expecting: Client with pressed button sends a message "some data" to the server, then the server sends this message to all the clients(including the original sender) . Then each client moves right the button 'connectButton' and prints a message to the log with time in the following format: "min:secs:milliseconds". What is going wrong: The motion is smooth in the client that sends the message, but in all other clients the motion is jerky. This happens because messages to those clients arrive later than to the original sending client. And if we have three clients (let's name them A,B,C) and we send a message from A, the sending time log of B and C will be the same. Why other clients recieve this messages later than the original sender? By the way, on ubuntu 10.04/chrome all the motion is smooth. • Understanding Flash SWC's imported into Flex Builder 3 and key framed animation

  I am trying to understand what is going on in a SWC that I am importing from Flash CS4 into Flex Builder 3. Specifically I am using a SWC supplied by a Designer as the animation for a custom preloader (a subclassed DownloadProgressBar). The issue I am trying to understand is, once the FlexEvent.INIT_COMPLETE is fired, I cleanup by removing the swc by running this : removeChild(myPreloader); myPreloader = null; though even after I have removed this (which is successful, as I have checked by comparing this.numChildren before and after the call) the key framed animation still continues to run (not visibly). This has been detected by the Designer placing a trace in the time line of the animation (in Flash). Can anyone tell me why is it, that even after I have removed the animation from the subclassed DownloadProgressBar, it still keeps running ? Also, is it standard practice when importing SWCs to manage the cleanup of resources from the Flash side of things (much like releasing memory in obj-c). I find it counter intuitive that removing the child from the Flex side does not stop the animation. Any clues to this would be greatly appreciated.

• edited an .SWF, locally the changes made are okay, but when on server changes are not fully visible

  Hi, I just edited an .SWF file I have on my website home page for a while now. I update the SWF frequently with new pictures. It's actually a picture slideshow, consisting out of 6 images. I used Adobe Flash CS4 Pro to edit the file, with just swapping all the pictures (JPGS) in it for other ones. I also have some small AS where I just have the URL: on(release) { getURL("link"); } so that's nothing fancy at all. I saved and published everything (CTRL+ENTER) and the .SWF played well, and tested it in IE8 and FF. Then I uploaded the SWF to my test server, overwriting the existing SWF file. Now the problem: all pictures but one show up well. Of the 6 images, the second image is actually the old image that was in its place. I downloaded the .SWF from the testserver and inspected the SWF and guess what: the old picture wasn't in it, instead the correct image was in the SWF. Even after reloading the page hitting CTRL+F5 still the wrong image shows. FF though shows the SWF correctly. So I then opened the page on another computer using IE8 and there the SWF works well, showing the correct second image. What's wrong with my first computer's browser? It's also the computer I edited the SWF with. I DO remember like I first saved and uploaded the wrong SWF (with the old 2nd image still in it) to the testserver, and later on uploading the correct one (proper 2nd image) I think IE8 has cached the wrong SWF, and now memorized it someway not willing to see that the file has actually been changed, but what to do so IE8 starts showing the correct SWF??

• Mac OS X software always order files alphabetically rather than by type.

  I have noticed many Mac applications sort the files alphabetically rather than by type. A good example would be Coda by panic.com. The files in the file menu are organized alphabetically. I requested for them to add the feature to organize files by type, and they've said that it's a Finder thing. So I looked at other applications to see if they were organizing by type. I noticed Dreamweaver CS4 had this same problem and now including Dreamweaver CS5. There has to be something in the Mac that does this and that I can modify. I played with Spotlight and it now displays its files by type (thinking that's what I can do) but it didn't take effect in other applications. What library are these applications using to display a file menu for their files? here is an example-- file menu layout of coda by panic.com. (i couldnt post another link because it wouldnt let me). can you see how everything is organised alphabetically rather than by folder? i just want the file menu to show all folders first then all the files. 1) http://www.iaddesign.com/coda.png there must be a way to modify mac to let me to do this.

I have a good programming background and Flex looks very simple for me, but I have difficult times in flash. I'm trying to achieve something that might be very simple(not for me of course): I create a simple shape in Flash, convert it to symbol. Then I create a TextField. The I select both the elements and convert them to another symbol, and Export it as a movieclip in swc. In flex I want to change the value from the textfield. How should I do?   Hi All, I am learning indesign, I have a doubt in story splitting... I want to split the story if the same story is used in two different text frames, I am extracting idml file and getting the needed data. My question is, I have a single story which is used by two text frames (Threaded text), and these two textframes are available in two different spreads. Story.xml contains full story, half of the story is displayed in 1st textframe, next half is displayed in 2nd textframe and the same story ID is referred in both the textframes. Now I want to split this story into two, so I want to know that how much content of the story is added in 1st and 2nd textframe, I think if I find that how many characters or words or lines present in each textframe then it will easy to split the story. We can determine the word and character count using the following steps in indesign CS4 Place the insertion point in a text frame to view counts for the entire thread of frames (the story), or select text to view counts only for the selected text. Choose Window Info to display the Info panel. Is there any property or attribute in idml (xml files like prefrence.xml or story.xml or spread.xml) to find out the number of characters/words/lines of single textframe. • Using Flash comboboxes with Jaws

  I'm working on a project for a government agency which requires 508 compliance. Our product is written for Flash 10 in ActionScript 3 using Flash CS4. We are doing this 100% programatically. We have almost all of the elements working properly, but when accessing combobox components, we have a problem. The combobox can be tabbed to directly with no problem, and the drop-down can be navigated directly with the arrow keys. However, when navigating, it reads the last item in the dropdown, not the current. For example, consider a combobox with the list of selections: first, second. Jaws reads the prompt fine, but when we press the down arrow to select the first item, it reads nothing. Pressing the down arrow again (so "second" is selected) causes it to read "first". Pressing down a final time causes it to read "second". I am completely baffled by this, and it is probably as likely that we don't know how to use Jaws, or that Flash simply can't support this function properly. If you have any suggestions for how we can resolve this, I would really appreciate it.

I've been using a manual table with Adobe Dreamweaver cs4 as a test, but I have to put the class of "alternatecolors" in order to make them appear, and I can't do this normally.: Question is , can someone provide me a good Javascript that I would put in the header of the file, and actually help me out to make this work ? I think I'm burned...or maybe I can't see what others see quickly due to the amount of time I've spent. I just tried posting the code of my table here, but I couldn't get it well formatted and I got to run... I'm not using an 'id' on this table, but the class is 'mytable'. • Controlling Movie Clips from the main time line instead of using their individual time lines?

Currently on the main time line there is only one frame, and three layers: actions/menu/content. The actionscript on the main time line is simply: content_mc.stop (); There is a movie clip on the stage called “Content” that contains the content for each of the pages. Inside of that there is a “Menu” movie clip that contains and controls all of the navigation buttons.   Hi - I have an Actionscript project that I was building using Flash CS4. I embedded a font using the follow: [Embed(source="/bin/assets/fonts/MyriadPro-Regular.otf", fontWeight="normal", fontFamily="Myriad Pro")] Then throughout my application in my TextFields I would set embedFonts to true antialiastype to advanced and set the thickness property of the text field. And setting the font-family from a stylesheet. This was all working exactly as I expected it would with no issues whatsoever and months of development. I just upgraded to CS5 and published and none of my text is rendered at all. I was able to resolve this by removing the embedFonts = true from the textfields, but this leaves me with no control over the thickness at all. I searched everywhere, does anyone know what the proper way to do this in CS5 is now? I've tried embedding my font directly within the CS5 IDE but still no thickness control.   I've created some InDesign Pages that I want to use as templates. I've created an XML file with all the appropriate data. I want to merge the XML data with the InDesign page and have a few hundred pages automatically generated. I've been reading online and working with InDesign's "Import XML" features without any luck. The documentation has been pretty poor for me. And Google searches haven't returned much fruitful. Edit: I'm updating this to now include my present steps 1) I create a Master Page of my template 2) I add a bunch of text frames where I want the imported data from the XML file to be places 3) I open the "Tags" window and Import and XML file 4) I mark my text frames in the Master Document with the appropriate tags 5) I then add a lot of pages (like 200) to the document 6) Then I use "Import XML" to try and get the data brought in and filled across all 200 pages. This is where I fail. So there's something I'm missing. It might be that InDesign doesn't work as I'm expecting... Anyone have any good tips for mail-merge like functionality with an XML document and auto-generation of InDesign pages? BTW, here's an example of Adobe's great documentation for merging repeated XML elements. • Converting a GMail Label Mailbox to a Set of PDFs

  I do have a rather large task to do: I need to convert a folder in my gmail with lots of tagged messages either as a large PDF (which Adobe Acrobat does on Outlook - Except the latter crashes while loading this mailbox) or as a individual PDF (which I plan to link on a Wiki Database) While it doesn't fully need to be in PDF (as long as I can, say, outsource to someone else to convert each .eml file as a .pdf file), I need to have them splitted so I could cross-reference them on a Wiki. What would you suggest to accomplish this task? Thank you.

• Eclipse making background video skip with almost every click of the mouse

  The problem is i like to listen to videos online (mostly or all flash video) while programming and never had any problems until i started using eclipse, now every time i do just about anything other than type, it makes the video skip/freeze really bad and is really annoying. I have never had this happen using visual studio, netbeans, or adobe flash for that matter, unless i was compiling or doing something that hogs the processor. Are there any settings that might could fix this its getting really annoying. it happens almost every time i even click "find" on the find pop-up window and it is not like it is having to search a big file or anything it is only 700 lines, with honestly only about 1/2 that have content on them. Any ideas?

• Windows XP-64 loses audio sounds, drive letters... why?

  Until sometime in early December, I had a wonderfully functioning XP-64 system. It was configured to auto download/install MS patches. I occassionally update the software on it, e.g. Open Office, Adobe Reader, Skype, but I don't fetch hundreds of tools or anything much beyond what I just mentioned. In December, suddenly my audio stopped, and drive letters assigned to various mount points on other machines quit being available. Apparantly, the services that support these (and some others) are now not starting up when I boot/login. There isn't anything obvious in the event log. If I manually restart the associated services, these facilities come back on line and work for awhile (a day) but pretty soon the problem reappears. I don't reboot very often, nor do I log out out much. Hints?

  I'm on my first Apple computer, a shiny new 21.5" iMac. I am not unfamiliar with OS X as I have been using a borrowed MacBook for a few months. Considering that this is my machine, I am more comfortable "settling in". I would like to get recommendations for software to install on it, other possible uses and whatnot. I bought it primarily for iPhone development, but I make videos on my beast of a PC using Adobe Premiere CS3. What software is recommended for me to download for the aforementioned as well as photo editing, graphic design and web design? • How to fix skipping/stuttering audio in Google Chrome

  If I play Google Music, or a Youtube video in the Chrome browser, and then open a new tab and start typing the address bar, the audio will quickly cut in and out as I am typing (with almost every letter I type). It also is choppy if I play the video and start typing in the start menu. I can not repeat this behavior using internet explorer. Based on that Im thinking that it maybe a problem with the version of flash Chrome is using but I'm not sure. Any ideas? Im running 32 bit windows 7, i.e. 9, and chrome 23.0 pc is a lenovo t43p. I have the latest sound drivers. i.e. is using flash 11.5.502. chrome is using : Adobe Flash Player - Version: 11.5.31.2 Only one (this) plugin is listed for flash in the chrome plugins list.

• Why not open a PDF file in the browser but first save it to the harddisk?

  Question Is it correct that saving a PDF to the harddisk first, and then opening it from there with some PDF reader (not the browser) is safer than opening it directly with the browser plugin? My current understanding I know that the PDF browser plugin might have a security leak and a manipulated PDF file might exploit it and get access to the user's computer. I recently heard that saving the PDF file frist and opening it then was safer. I don't understand why that should be safer. Can anyone explain? My logic would suggest that a manipulated file started from the harddisk can just as well exploit a security leak, say for instance, of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  Hello, I have a big problem at my work. We had to make a page who displays a exercise for the users. But that page need also to be available as pdf. To do this we used DOMPDF. This worked perfectly on your development server but when we moved it to the production server dompdf generates pdf with errors. When i open the pdf i get the error from Adobe Reader: 110. The first server (development) was Debian. The production server runs CentOS 5. DOMPDF used PDFLib or CPDF, but both generate the same error. Does anybody know what kind of differents on the server i need to be aware of ?

• vector quality of svg and pdf

  I'm converting pdf files to svg as it is easier to use svg files on webpages. I first thought the quality of svg must be similar to pdf, as they are both vector graphics. However, now I look a little better on it, it seems that pdf is a bit superior: (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/58922976/Photos/1.png) I wonder if I could change this in some way. Is this because pdf vectors are just better quality ? Or is this because chrome renders svg in lower quality than adobe reader renders pdf ? Is this a setting in the svg file that I could change ? • Youtube videos all appear transparent in Chrome (I can see through to my desktop -- see pic!)

  MBP 6,2 :: Google Chrome 13.0.782.32 beta :: Adobe Flash Player 10,3,181,26 UPDATE: only Youtube is affected. Vimeo, other flash, etc. all works great. Hello. I recently had to hard reboot my MBP. After that, I could not watch Youtube videos or (I believe) other flash enabled content. The videos appear transparent, as if there were a "hole" in my browser (Chrome) such that I could see through the hole and see my desktop. I've attached a picture (just picked a random video) Thanks.
