  I feel suddenly uneasy of not being able to perform this operation easily. It could be that I'm tired, or that there's really no way (google didn't help), but... if you have a list in python, and want to extract element at indices say 1, 2 and 5 into a new list, how do you do ? This is how I did it, but I'm not very satisfied >>> a [10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15] >>> [x[1] for x in enumerate(a) if x[0] in [1,2,5]] [11, 12, 15] any better way ? more in general, given a tuple with indices, how to use this tuple to extract the corresponding elements from a list, eventually with duplication (e.g. tuple (1,1,2,1,5) produces [11,11,12,11,15] )

• Regex only retrieves the first necessary element but not all of them

  Can anybody help me with retrieving some elements from the following example text: sdfaasdflj asdfjl;a AB-12/34 BC-/85 CD-//8 DD-77 DE-78/9 EE-78-98 asdf; asdjf It is necessary to get the following elements: AB-12/34, BC-/85, CD-//8, DD-77, DE-78/9 When I'm using a regular expression like this: \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b) everything works fine - all the necessary elements are being retrieved (except for the EE element are amonth them, but it doesn't matter). The problem is that this line is a part of a more complex regex, so when I'm trying to apply a regex like this: (?s).*\sas.*? \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b)*.* .*as It only returns me just the first AB-12/34 element and nothing else. How to correct the regex to get all the elements? TIA.

  Hi, I am playing about with Erlang and I am trying to write a simple arithmetic parser. I want to try and parse the following expression: ((12+3)-4) I want to parse the expression into a stack of AST nodes. When parsing this expression, I would first of all create a binary expression for the (12+3) expression which would look something like this in C#: var binaryStructure = new BinaryStructure(); binaryStructure.Left = IntegerLiteralExpression(12); binaryStructure.Right = IntegerLiteralExpression(4); binaryStructure.Operator = binaryExpression.Operator != BinaryOperatorType.Addition; I am quite new to Erlang and I am wondering how I would go about creating a structure like this in Erlang that I can place on a List that I would use as the stack of expressions. Can anyone suggest how to create such a tree like structure? Would a function be a good fit? Thanks Paul

• Compiling PAR for Perl under Windows

  I've downloaded PAR from http://par.perl.org/wiki/Main_Page and compiled it after reading the README file. I've used dmake-4.12-20090907 instead of nmake ('cause 1.5 does not work) from http://search.cpan.org/dist/dmake/. No problems during the installing proccess (repeating the install proccess doesn't help farther, no warnings, just less text output), but there is no pp.exe or something similar. I'm using Windows XP, all compilations were done on the c drive. perl -v "This is perl 5, version 12, subversion 2 (v5.12.2) built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread"

  i would like to have your opinion in a project i am currently working on. class Product has_many :orders end class Order attr_accessor :deliverable # to contain temporary data on how many items can be delivered for this order belongs_to :product end somehow i want to have Order.all_deliverable that will calculate the Product's quantity, subtract from list of Orders until the Product is empty or there is no more Order for this Product to illustrate Product A, quantity: 20 Product B, quantity: 0 Order 1, require Product A, quantity: 12 Order 2, require Product B, quantity: 10 Order 3, require Product A, quantity: 100 so if i call Order.all_deliverable, it will give Order 1, deliverable:12 Order 3, deliverable: 8 #(20-12) i have been thinking on using named_scope, but i think the logic will be too complex to be put in a named_scope. Any suggestion? the pseudo code for all_deliverable will be something like this: go to each orders find the remaining quantity for specific product deduct the product to max amount of order, if product is not enough, add the maximum product add to the order end From what i read around in the web, named_scope deal mostly like find and have not many method calling and looping.

• searching between dates in MYSQL in this format 03/17/10.11:22:45

  I have a script that automatically populates a mysql database with data every hour. It populates the date field like 03/17/10.12:34:11 and so on. I'm working on pulling data based on 1 day at a time from a search script. If i use select * from call_logs where call_initiated between '03/17/10.12:00:00' and '03/17/10.13:00:00' it works, but when I try to add the rest of the search params, it ignores the call_initiated field. select * from call_logs where caller_dn='2x9xxx0000' OR called_dn='2x9xxx0000' AND call_initiated between '03/17/10.12:00:00' and '03/17/10.13:00:00' ^-- I x'd out a couple of the numbers. I've also tried without the between function, and used = <= to pull the records, but have the same results. Im sure its an oversight, thanks in advance.

  I recently stumbled over buildbot and wanted to give it a try. My problem is that I have to run it under Windows because we don't use Linux on workstations or servers in my company. I've already tried different installations: python 2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.6, pywin32-214-py2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.4, pywin32-214-py2.4, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.4, buildbot 0.7.12 and tried to run it in a Windows XP VM. In all installations I ran the buildbot test suite and got several errors and the buildbot documentation sais that no test should fail. Does anybody here have experience with buildbot under Windows? Is it worth the pain or do I have to use Linux?

  I can set an EntityReference on an entity without having to load the relevent entity as follows: this.CategoryReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.CategorySet", "Id", 12); So I can set the Category for the entity I'm dealing with to whatever category has id 12 without having to hit the database. But is there a way to do this or something similar on an EntityCollection?   I have a Time object and would like to find the next/previous month. Adding subtracting days does not work as the days per month vary. time = Time.parse('21-12-2008 10:51 UTC') next_month = time + 31 * 24 * 60 * 60 Incrementing the month also falls down as one would have to take care of the rolling time = Time.parse('21-12-2008 10:51 UTC') next_month = Time.utc(time.year, time.month+1) time = Time.parse('01-12-2008 10:51 UTC') previous_month = Time.utc(time.year, time.month-1) The only thing I found working was time = Time.parse('21-12-2008 10:51 UTC') d = Date.new(time.year, time.month, time.day) d >>= 1 next_month = Time.utc(d.year, d.month, d.day, time.hour, time.min, time.sec, time.usec) Is there a more elegant way of doing this that I am not seeing? How would you do it?

• Forcing Flex to update the screen?

  This may be a bit of a beginners question, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. I'm using flex to develop a GUI for a large project, specifically a status bar along the bottom. Within my StatusBar class is a ProgressBar, which other classes doing work can tell to update(change bar completion and label) as they progress. The problem I'm encountering is that flex won't update whats shown on the screen until it's too late, for example ProgressBar initialized, 0% done some class sets the ProgressBar to be 12% done some class does some work some class sets the ProgressBar to be 56% done Whats happening is the 12% done is never displaying, it just hangs at 0% during the work, then skips right to 56% done. I've tried to understand the lifecycle of a flex component (invalidation and validation), and I think I understand it and am applying it correctly, but it's not working at all. I need to tell flex to redraw my StatusBar (or at least the ProgressBar within) after some class sets it to be 12% done, but before some class starts doing its work. How do I do this?

• ghc can't find my cabal installed packages

  I've installed ghc 6.12.3, and then the Haskell Platform. I'm trying to compile a test program: $ ghc test.hs test.hs:3:0: Failed to load interface for `Bindings': Use -v to see a list of the files searched for. so, naturally, I do cabal install Bindings Which works fine, and places the package in ~/.cabal/lib/bindings-0.1.2 The problem is, that when I go to compile again with ghc, it still doesn't find the package I've installed with cabal. compiling in verbose mode gives: ghc -v test.hs Using binary package database: /home/ludflu/ghc/lib/ghc-6.12.3/package.conf.d/package.cache Using binary package database: /home/ludflu/.ghc/x86_64-linux 6.12.3/package.conf.d/package.cache As suggested by another stackoverflow user, I tried: ghc-pkg describe rts > rts.pkg vi rts.pkg # add the /home/ludflu/.cabal/lib to `library-dirs` field ghc-pkg update rts.pkg But to no avail. How to I add the .cabal to the list of package directories to search? Thank you!

Another issue with the airport weather data is that the time data is saved in 12 hour format. • Trying to figure out how to check a checksum

  I'm trying to figure out how to check a checksum. My message looks like this: 38 0A 01 12 78 96 FE 00 F0 FB D0 FE F6 F6 being the checksum. I convert the preceding 12 sets in to binary and then add them together. Then attempt a bitwise operation to apply the 2s complement. I get a value of -1562, but I can't convert it back to hex to check if the value is correct. • Regular Expression to return the contents of a HTML tag received as a string of text

  I have a string in my code that I receive that contains some html tags. It is not part of the HTML page being displayed so I cannot grab the html tag contents using the DOM (i.e. document.getElementById('tag id').firstChild.data); So, for example within the string of text would appear a tag like this: 12 My question is how would I use a regular expression to access the '12' numeric digit in this example? This quantity could be any number of digits (i.e. it is not always a double digit). I have tried some regular expressions, but always end up getting the full span tag returned along with the contents. I only want the '12' in the example above, not the surrounding tag. The id of the tags will always be 'myQty' in the string of text I receive. Thanks in advance for any help!

  I'm trying to import data from a csv file to some html code to use it in a graph I have already coded. I'm trying to use PHP and fgetcsv to create arrays for each separate piece of data to use PHP to put it into the html code. I know how to open the csv file and to print it using PHP, and how to print each separate row, but not each piece of data separated by a comma. Is there a way to do this? If this helps, this is the csv data I am trying to import. These states are: 10 - Completed 11 - Incomplete 12 - Skipped The state is available through a property called "TaskStateID".
