  • Hearing repeated sound in Linux mint Chrome Browser

    I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some repetition in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine . What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ? And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this .     Hello, do you know any browser-side component, in HTML/Javascript, Flash, Applet or Silverlight, that would allow source code edition with syntax highlighting and auto-completion. CodeMirror has a good syntax highlighting support but does not seem to support auto-completion. If no such editor exists do you know any way to implement auto-completion using HTML and javascript or any other browser-side technology ? Thanks by advance.

    Hi, Assume a java string that contains an IP (v4 or v6) or a hostname. What is the best way to detect among these cases? I am not interested so much on whether the IP is in valid range (e.g. 999.999.999.999 for IPv4). I am interested in just a way to detect if a String is a hostname or an IP (v4 or v6). Initially I though this: if(theString.indexOf("@")!=-1){ //Not an Ip } but I am not sure if I should always expect a format containing @ always. Thanks

    One approach to check if a given integer is negative or not, could be this: (using bit operations) int num_bits = sizeof(int) * 8; //assuming 8 bits per byte! int sign_bit = given_int & (1 << (num_bits-1)); //sign_bit is either 1 or 0 if ( sign_bit ) { cout << "given integer is negative"<<endl; } else { cout << "given integer is positive"<<endl; } The problem with this solution is that number of bits per byte couldn't be 8, it could be 9,10, 11 even 16 or 40 bits per byte. Byte doesn't necessarily mean 8 bits! Anyway, this problem can be easily fixed by writing, //CHAR_BIT is defined in limits.h int num_bits = sizeof(int) * CHAR_BIT; //no assumption. It seems fine now. But is it really? Is this Standard conformant? What if the negative integer is not represented as 2's complement? What if it's representation in a binary numeration system that doesn't necessitate only negative integers to have 1 in it's most significant bit?   • C# IE Proxy Detection not working from a Windows Service

    This is very odd. I've written a windows form tool in C# to return the default IE proxy. It works (See code snippets below). I've created a service to return the proxy using the same code, it works when I step into the debugger, BUT it doesn't work when the service is running as binary code. This must be some sort of permissions or context thing that I cannot recreate. Further, if I call the tool from the windows service, it still doesn't return the proxy information.... this seems isolated to the service somehow. I don't see any permission errors in the events log, it's as if a service has a totally different context than a regular windows form exe. I've tride both: WebRequest.GetSystemWebProxy() and Uri requestUri = new Uri(urlOfDomain); HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(requestUri); IWebProxy proxy = request.Proxy; if (!proxy.IsBypassed(requestUri)){ Uri uri2 = proxy.GetProxy(request.RequestUri); } Thanks for any help!

  • Connection Timeout Extension/Detection

    Well, let me start off by explaining what I'm trying to do. I have an application that stalls a HTTP connection until new data is available (sometimes a few seconds, sometimes 30 minutes or so). Right now, the system works fine if the data is sent within a few minutes. The problem I'm facing, is that it doesn't seem that XHR recognizes a dropped connection... So instead of killing the current connection and reconnecting when it detects a dropped connection, it just sits there. I'd really not like to have it force-reconnect every minute or two (That's one reason this app was written, to stop the need for polling). So, my questions are as follows: Is there a way to detect a dropped (not closed) TCP connection with XHR? Is there a way that I can tell XHR not to timeout (I saw IE8 has the .timeout property) Would it be better to send a header (or some other content) every now and then (say once per minute) down the pipe to keep the connection open?   • Vmware server: Browser does not load user interface

    I have the latest vmware server isntalled on ubuntu 8.04 lts 64 bit. I access the user interface over this url, which matches my ip and port settings: https://10.1.1.99:11222/ui Sometimes it works in fierofox 3.6, but sometimes not. Same in Google Chrome. When it does not work, what happens is that the cert is checked, the browser is loading something, but the result is a white page. Sometimes the favicon of vmware (blue with 3 squares) appears, but only the white page. And sometimes it works. I reload many times, most of the time the whit epage appears again. On some days I succeed. But on many days not. I can give more info if someone tells me what is needed. Please help, we need this badly.

By default it seems to use the operating system default browser, but I would prefer to use IE when debugging ASP.net apps. (I am testing this with ASP.net MVC 2)

For the input text which contains ... http://www.google.de/ ... I get the following output: <a href="http://www.google.de/<br">http://www.google.de/<br</a> /> Why does it include the line breaks?   • Installed IE8 & SP3 on XP now I can't HTTPS from any browser

    The computer is Windows XP Professional SP3 with IE8. On the Tools Options Connections the "Settings" is GRAYED OUT (I am an admin on the machine) Any browsing of https:// addresses results in IE displaying the following: "this program cannot display the web page" After installing an alternate browser and trying the same https:// address I get a similar error message. I have tried using Compatibility View Settings to for all web pages and this has no effect on the problem. HTTP addresses work fine, I can PING sites such as google.com without issue. Question: What could be preventing me from getting at the settings to check to see if I'm using a proxy? What else could be preventing HTTPS access?

    My kid is 14, homeschooled and capable computer user. All of her school work is done online; the computer literacy course even uses 3 different browsers, Chrome, IE, and Firefox. I have 2 laptops, running Win7 (one is Pro, the other Home). Is there a way to get all of her browser history in one place? I have to account for 60 minutes of class time per subject per day, but trying to do this across all 3 is getting too complicated. Thanks! PS. My kid and I talk about internet safety and usage regularly and she knows that I monitor where she goes and how long she is there. Secrecy is not an issue.

    i've setup apache and php on a virtual machine. everything works fine in the virtual machine. im able to execute php files and run up phpmyadmin connecting to mysql. on my host machine, im able ping and ssh into the remote machines. however, im unable to browse the php files on the host browser using the ip address. in my httpd.conf, im listening to port 80. i enabled the ServerName 192.168.75.102:80 am i missing some settings? port settings maybe?

    I have a game that I am working on in a C# console application, purely as practice before going on to better methods. As opposed to using something such as a Windows Forms App, which has button functionality built in, I am endeavoring to grab the cursor position (which I know how to do) and compare it to a number of area's inside a console application as defined by perhaps pixel location, but I also do not know if there is some sort of built in unit of space other than pixels (this last bit is the part I am unable to figure). P.S. I know this is in general terms, with no code already provided, but I do not feel that it is needed as all I am asking for is a brief explanation of how to grab X Y coordinates inside a console application, and stick them in int variables.   • Sql Server XML-type column duplicate entry detection

    In Sql Server I am using an XML type column to store a message. I do not want to store duplicate messages. I only will have a few messages per user. I am currently querying the table for these messages, converting the XML to string in my C# code. I then compare the strings with what I am about to insert. Unfortunately, Sql Server pretty-prints the data in the XML typed fields. What you store into the database is not necessarily exactly the same string as what you get back out later. It is functionally equivalent, but may have white space removed, etc. Is there an efficient way to compare an XML string that I am considering inserting with those that are already in the database? As an aside, if I detect a duplicate I need to delete the older message then insert the replacement.
