  • Wi-Fi not working only on Ubuntu computer?

    The Wi-Fi at our house does not work on my Asus notebook running Ubuntu 12.04. It works fine on all other devices except this one. Internet worked fine before I had Ubuntu and I had Windows 7, but we also had a different ISP and place. My roommate's Windows 7 notebook and netbook both work fine with the internet and so do all of our phones and iPods. I do not know what is wrong because it works fine EVERYWHERE else, but when I am connected to my own router at my house it is either EXTREMELY slow or it just loads and loads and loads. I have all of the correct drivers and all that so why is it just this one connection that is a problem. I do not know if this matters but the ISP is Comcast and so is the Modem/wireless-router. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

  • Missing Driver - Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

    I have a HP 2000-2106TU Notebook PC running Windows XP. I want to get the brightness keys to work. They are placed over the F2 and F3 buttons and are meant to be used in conjunction with the Fn key. But these combinations do not work, though other Fn keys such as the volume control keys do. I see a missing driver for a device called Video Controller (VGA Compatible) in the Windows Device Manager. The hardware id is PCI VEN 8086 DEV 0106 SUBSYS_1858103C which a Google search suggests is in an Intel HD Graphics family, but I don't know where to locate the driver. HP's driver scan does not help, as it does not show any missing driver related to video/graphics. What can I do next?

  • Can't install ubuntu on msi computer

    I have been trying to install ubuntu along windows but failed. the issue is that I get a graphical glitch with the colours of the ubuntu loading screen while installing from usb and no progress is made, the pc freezes. I've tryied the nomodeset solution, but when I have to reboot I get the same problem. I've tried ubuntu 13.10, 13.04, 12.04 etc...both generic and for amd: nothing worked... any idea how this could be resolved or which distribution/iso I should try for my system? thank you.   • USB Drive that simultaneously connects to more than one computer

    Background: I have a portable USB drive that I use to make sure I have access to common files whenever at home, work, travel etc for cases when I may not have Internet/Network access of any kind. There are some cases when I have to work simultaneously on a laptop and a desktop computer, and for those cases I usually have to unplug this USB hard drive and move it between the two. Question: dual-computer USB drive? Is there a USB-based solution that would enable me to use this portable drive between two computers simultaneously? If there is not a USB-based solution, does anyone have alternative suggestions, consistent with the underlying rationale? Rationale: Sometimes I have to work on a desktop computer with locked-down networking capabilities (such as at the local photocopy shop) and it can be difficult to get a network configuration that allows dual-computer access without breaking things, or accidentally making my USB drive visible to the entire network. Basically what I need is a very simply LAN that is guaranteed to work regardless of the rules or constraints set by the network administrator for wherever I happen to be at the time.   • Play music from computer on phone, over WiFi?

    Wasn't sure whether to ask on here on on android.stackexchange.com ... but I want to play music which is on my desktop machine through my phone. The music is coming from ext4 partition which I am happy to share on the LAN. It should use WiFi not bluetooth (because I hope to use the bluetooth interface for other things, simultaneously). Is it possible and what do I need to setup on the desktop (on Ubuntu 12.04) and/or my phone (galaxy nexus)? edit: Just to clarify, I want the music to be playing from the phone, not through the desktop's speakers.

  • Integrating external computer into a domain - some recommendations please

    Given: * A multi loation company. Every office has local routers that connect to a central VPN capable rouer in a data center. All fine so far. We now need to move a computer off site into a hosting center across the globe, to get it closer to some supplier computers we work for. it will run limited logic but latency is important, and our latency so far is too large. This computer will be in a data center and does no require incoming connections except for adminsitrative purposes, although it needs outgoing connetions. I have no real chance to put one of my VPN routers there, sadly - otherwise I would have no problem. Usage of RRAs is not recommended (we had various probblems there over time). I could deal with it. The computer MUSt integrate into the corporate structure via VPN and join the domain and be fully "tracked" (controlled for performance). What is the best suggestion? So far it looks like my best bets woudl be to log in via RRAS and deal with whatever issues arise there plus uise the local firewall the limit incoming connections to this computer to what is needed (which runs down to an emergency RDP connection allowance). Anyone a better idea?

    I have an acer aspire x3200 Monitor says no input signal (go to power safe mode) I was only able to use computer in safe mode The computer was on (power safe mode) for two weeks. The monitor is ok with another desktop I tried with a different monitor, same message (monitor goes to power safe mode) Why is this happening and if it's my video card probLem will I be able to replace the video card and solve it? I'm having a hard time trying to understand exactly what I have to do, which classes I should subclass, which methods needs to be overriden, to make this work. The documentation on this isn't very detailed. I'd like to know how to make this work, and if there's some other, more comprehensive resource to learn about the graphics view framework, besides the official documentation (which is excellent btw, but it would be great if there was a more detailed treatise on the subject). EDIT: Following badgerr's advice, I replaced item-pos() in DragScene::dropEvent() with item-scenePos(), now the drop event creates a new circle in the drop site, which is more or less what I wanted. But the original circle is still in place, and while the drag is in progress, the item doesn't follow the mouse cursor. The QGraphicsSceneDragDropEvent documentation says that pos() should return the cursor position in relation to the view that sent the event, which, unless I got it wrong, shouldn't be (0,0) all the time. Weird. I've read in a forum post that you can use QDrag::setPixMap() to show something during the drag, and in examples I've seen pictures being set as pixmaps, but how do I make the pixmap just like the graphics item I'm supposed to be dragging?

  • Getting a VMnet0 error in VMWare workstation after updating host computer from Windows 8 to 8.1

    Yesterday, I updated my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1. I have VMWare Workstation 10 running Windows XP on this computer and prior to the update I had no issues connecting to my network. However, since updating, I haven't been able to connect to any network and I'm getting the following error: "The network bridge on device VMnet0 is not running. The firtual machine will not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network. Failed to connect virtual device Ethernet0" I've checked all of my settings which currently have my network adapter set for a bridged connection and under device status "connected" is checked. Not really sure where to go from here, but after doing some research I have seen that others users have reported getting this error when updating the OS (any OS, not windows 8 specifically) of the host computer. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    According to the cluster documentation, you can either define data nodes with: [ndbd] NodeId=n HostName=1.2.3.4 or [ndbd] NodeId=n ExecuteOnComputer=m [computer] Id=m HostName=1.2.3.4 I don't see a substantial difference between the two. The documentation has this to say: The [computer] section has no real significance other than serving as a way to avoid the need of defining host names for each node in the system. I'm stumped. If I have to define a hostname, what benefit is there to defining it in [computer] instead of [ndbd]?

  • INtegral card readers have drivers installed but do not show on my computer

    I recenlty fixed a computer powerbutton and accidentally unplugged a sd card reader and did not know where was at (didnt knw if it was usb or firewire/ after i found out, i guess i installed it on a different usb so reinstalled the drivers..Drivers show installed successfully, ready to use. but THey do not show up on my computer as removable disks (E:) etc.a s they should I have windows 7 home premium 64 bits. the computer is a Acer Aspire M1201-be50001a.     I have a server that is setup in raid. It is on the same network as my main computer. I would like to have some of the memory on my server to act as a network attached drive on my main computer. Basically, I want it to be a new data drive (similar two C:\, but 2nd drives are mostly E:). That way, I can reformat my main computer without loosing any important data.   • Connect to virtual host computer from within virtualbox

    I'm currently developing on an ubuntu karmic. For this I've installed lampp with a virtual host on apache so http://myproject/ is mapped to my project's root directory. Now to test the website in IE I've installed an XP machine on a virtualBox OSE. Ive managed to get the virtual host working on the XP by adding its to the hostfile, like this: 255.255.255.255 myproject where 255.255.255.255 is the ip adress of the host computer (my ubuntu). Now every day when I come to work and plug in my computer to the network, my IP has changed. so When i boot the XP I have to change the IP in the hostfile to my new IP. Is there any way where I can set the ip to somthing the XP will recognise as the host machine? I've tried replacing the IP in the hostfile by the host computer name, but that does not seem to work... This would make my like a bit easier :)

    Hello there, My computer with Windows XP installed becomes very slow after I ran some heavy tasks at a time. (play a full 3D online game while extracting a 4GB RAR archive) It freezes for about 200~500ms every few seconds, and this always happens if I do heavy tasks at once in my computer (for example, installing a program while playing games), and the lag remains permanently (even a reboot won't make it better) unless I repair-install the Windows. Since I have a low-end computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00 GHz, 512 MB of RAM ATI RADEON 9550 AGP 256 MB And the only way I used everytime to fix this problem is by repair-installing my Windows XP. So that I won't lose any data or installed programs. But I believe there's a better and faster way to fix this without repair-installing the Windows. Any idea?

  • My computer keeps crashing and I just want it FIXED

    So long story short, I had my brother build me a computer for my birthday last year. I saw how good his was (also built by him) so I decided I would have him build me one. About a month after this was all finished, my computer started crashing when I when run over 3 programs. For example, an online game, a music player (spotify), skype, and a browser with a few tabs open. The way it would crash is the screen will freeze and a buzzing noise will come from whatever audio device I am using (headset, speakers) I took it to a computer tech guy and he told me my cooling system was inadequate. SOOO he led me to buy a CORSAIR H75 Liquid cooling system. Everything was good for about a week, and now it just did the same thing again. I am so freaking over this guys and I really need some help figuring out what the heck is wrong, I dont care how long it takes, just please help me.

    We have a strange problem with our computers at my school. They are all Latitude 2100 Netbooks. At random points (I can't seem to find a pattern) the screen will turn a single color (red, green, black, brown, etc.) To fix this, the computer must be put to sleep, and brought back up. They have integrated graphics, but I can't imagine that if it was a bug with the computer itself, that every single computer would do this. Is there any way I could find out the problem that's causing this. Some diagnostic tool? Thanks. Edit: Forgot, they all have windows.
