  • PHP - Cannot use Heredoc within a class method?

    I'm writing the code for a controller method and I need to use it to send an email. I'm trying to use heredoc syntax to fill in the email body, however, the closing tag doesn't seem to be recognized. $this->email = new Email(); $this->email->from = 'Automated Email'; $this->email->to = '[email protected]'; $this->email->subject = 'A new user has registered'; $this->email->body = <<<EOF Hello, a new user has registered. EOF; $this->email->send(); Everything from the opening <<< EOF down (till the end of the file) is displayed as if it was in quotes. Can anyone see why this is not working? Any advice appreciated.     I am building a web service that serves geographic boundary data in JSON format. The geographic data is stored in an SQL Server 2008 R2 database using the geography type in a table. I use [ColumnName].ToString() method to return the polygon data as text. Example output: POLYGON ((-6.1646509904325884 56.435153006374627, ... -6.1606079906751 56.4338050060666)) MULTIPOLYGON (((-6.1646509904325884 56.435153006374627 0 0, ... -6.1606079906751 56.4338050060666 0 0))) Geographic definitions can take the form of either an array of lat/long pairs defining a polygon or in the case of multiple definitions, an array or polygons (multipolygon). I have the following regex that converts the output to JSON objects contained in multi-dimensional arrays depending on the output.   • How to write specs with MSpec for code that changes Thread.CurrentPrincipal?

    I've been converting some old specs to MSpec (were using NUnit/SpecUnit). The specs are for a view model, and the view model in question does some custom security checking. We have a helper method in our specs which will setup fake security credentials for the Thread.CurrentPrincipal. This worked fine in the old unit tests, but fails in MSpec. Specifically, I'm getting this exception: "System.Runtime.Serialization.SerializationException: Type is not resolved for member" It happens when part of the SUT tries to read the app config file. If I comment out the line which sets the CurrentPrincipal (or simply call it after the part that checks the config file), the error goes away, but the tests fail due to lack of credentials. Similarly, if I set the CurrentPrincipal to null, the error goes away, but again the tests fail because the credentials aren't set. I've googled this, and found some posts about making sure the custom principal is serializable when it crosses AppDomain boundaries (usually in reference to web apps). In our case, this is not a web app, and I'm not crossing any AppDomains. Our pincipal object is also serializable. I downloaded the source for MSpec, and found that the ConsoleRunner calls a class named AppDomainRunner. I haven't debugged into it, but it looks like it's running the specs in different app domains. So does anyone have any ideas on how I can overcome this? I really like MSpec, and would love to use it exclusively. But I need to be able to supply fake security credentials while running the tests.   • Array of Objects

    Complete and utter neophyte to Objective-C and the entire Mac platform so don't flame me please =). Basically I'm trying to create a simple game. The game has a board which I've created a class for and a board is comprised of squares which I also created a class for (board and square respectively). In my view controller I'm trying to instantiate a board and add boardSize^2 squares to said object. board contains an NSMutableArray *squares. I've also created a convenience method which sets an NSNumber *boardSize called initWithDimension. In my touchesBegan handler I have the following: board *game_board = [[board alloc] initWithDimension:10]; int size = [game_board.boardSize intValue]; for(int i = 0; i <= size; i++) { square *s = [[square alloc] init]; [game_board.squares addObject:s]; [s release]; } NSLog(@"%i", size); NSLog(@"%@", [game_board.squares objectAtIndex:0]); ...and I'm getting 10 (as expected) and then (null). This is probably glaringly obvious to an experienced developer, I've just struggled for an hour trying to solve it and have given up. I've tried it without the [s release] as well, same result. I've also imported square.h and board.h. Any ideas what's wrong here? Any other comments on what I'm brutalizing? Thanks.

  • File transfer eating alot of CPU

    I'm trying to transfer a file over a IHttpHandler, the code is pretty simple. However when i start a single transfer it uses about 20% of the CPU. If i were to scale this to 20 simultaneous transfers the CPU is very high.     I have a report that has ~1k columns and ~17k rows and I'm trying to render it to Excel 2007 with SSRS 2008 R2 Nov CTP.   • What's a good Java API for creating Word documents?

    I have a new app I'll be working on where I have to generate a Word document that contains tables, graphs, a table of contents and text. What's a good API to use for this? How sure are you that it supports graphs, ToCs, and tables? What are some hidden gotcha's in using them? Some clarifications: I can't output a PDF, they want a Word doc. They're using MS Word 2003 (or 2007), not OpenOffice Application is running on *nix app-server It'd be nice if I could start with a template doc and just fill in some spaces with tables, graphs, etc. Thanks for the help. Edit: Several good answers below, each with their own faults as far as my current situation. Hard to pick a "final answer" from them. Think I'll leave it open, and hope for better solutions to be created. Edit: The OpenOffice UNO project does seem to be closest to what I asked for. While POI is certainly more mainstream, it's too immature for what I want.

  • PHP preg_replace - Don't match within h1 tags

    Hi there. I am using preg_replace to add a link to keywords if they are found within a long HTML string. I don't want to add a link if the keyword is found within h1 tags or strong tags. The below regex nearly works and basically says (I think): If the keyword is not immediately wrapped by either a h1 tag or a strong tag then replace with the keyword that was matched, as a bolded link to google. $result = preg_replace('%(?!<h1>)(?!<strong>)\b(bobs widgets)\b(?!<\/strong>)(?!<\/h1>)%i','<a href="http://www.google.com"><strong>$1</strong></a>', $result, -1); (the reason I don't want to match if in strong tags is because I am recursing through a lot of keywords so don't want to link an already linked keyword on subsequent passes) the above works fine and won't match: <h1>bobs widgets</h1> It will however match the keyword in the following text, because the h1 tag isn't immediately either side of the keyword: <h1>Here are bobs widgets for sale</h1> I need to make the spaces either side optional and have tried adding \s* but that doesn't get me anywhere. I'd be very grateful for a push in the right direction here.

  • Compiling .NET component that uses a non specific required version of a 3rd Party Vendor component

    If someone were to develop a .NET component that relied on non specific versions of a vendor DLL - let's say it worked with My3rdPartyComponent.dll which is a .NET assembly, but it didn't matter which version. Some instances of classes found in this component would need to be passed into my component. Developers would reference my component dll but not have access to the source code. Basically, I want to be able to require the user to pass in an instance of 3rdPartyComponent.MyClass to my component functions but I do not care if it's version 1.1, 2.2, 2.23.980, etc of the 3rd party dll. Is there a way to do this while still typing the parameter I want to be passed in to my component? I don't want to use Object as the reference. In my component project I could specify SpecificVersion=True on the assembly reference. Will this solve my problem or will there be other 'dll hell' issues to deal with that I am not seeing?

    I've found the symbol :=: in some Clarion code and I can't seem to figure out exactly what it does. The code was written by a previous developer many years ago, so I can't ask him. I also have not been able to find any results for "colon equals colon" in Google.   • Python halts while iteratively processing my 1GB csv file

    I have two files: metadata.csv: contains an ID, followed by vendor name, a filename, etc hashes.csv: contains an ID, followed by a hash The ID is essentially a foreign key of sorts, relating file metadata to its hash. I wrote this script to quickly extract out all hashes associated with a particular vendor. It craps out before it finishes processing hashes.csv stored_ids = [] # this file is about 1 MB entries = csv.reader(open(options.entries, "rb")) for row in entries: # row[2] is the vendor if row[2] == options.vendor: # row[0] is the ID stored_ids.append(row[0]) # this file is 1 GB hashes = open(options.hashes, "rb") # I iteratively read the file here, # just in case the csv module doesn't do this. for line in hashes: # not sure if stored_ids contains strings or ints here... # this probably isn't the problem though if line.split(",")[0] in stored_ids: # if its one of the IDs we're looking for, print the file and hash to STDOUT print "%s,%s" % (line.split(",")[2], line.split(",")[4]) hashes.close() This script gets about 2000 entries through hashes.csv before it halts. What am I doing wrong?   • Using IvyDE with different workspaces on different branches

    I am having problems using IvyDE when I have different workspaces for different branches. I have "Resolve dependencies in workspace" switched on. But everytime I change to a different workspace I have to remember to manually clean the caches out. This is because IvyDE always uses the default cache for resolving dependencies within a workspace, so when switching between workspaces the cache can be polluted by different versions. It would seem that it is impossible to work with two different workspaces at the same time. I cannot find a way to configure the location that IvyDE uses to cache the project dependencies. It does not appear to use the caches defined in the ivysettings.xml

  • Problem with final branch in a parallel activity

    This might seem like a silly thing to say, the final branch in a parallel activity so I'll clarify. It's a parallel activity with three branches each containing a simple create task, on task changed and complete task. The branch containing the task that is last to complete seems to break. So every task works in it's own right, but the last one encounters a problem. Say the user clicks the final tasks link to open the attached infopath form and submits that. Execution gets to the event handler for that onTaskChanged where a taskCompleted variable gets set to true which will exit the while loop. I've successfully hit a breakpoint on this line so I know that happens. However the final activity in that branch, the completeTask doesn't get hit. When submit is clicked in the final form, the operation in progess screen says of for quite a while before returning to the workflow status page. The task that was opened and submitted says "Not Started". I can disable any of the branches to leave only two, but the same problem happens with the last to be completed. Earlier on in the workflow I do essencially the same thing. I have another 3 branch parallel activity with each brach containing a task. This one works correctly which leads me to believe that it might be a problem with having two parallel activites in the same sequential workflow. I've considered the possibility that it might be a correlation token problem. The token that every task branch uses is unique to that branch and it's owner activity name is est to that of the branch. It stands to reason that if the task complete variable is indeed getting set to true but the while loop isn't being exited, then there's a wire crossing with the variable somewhere. However I'd still have thought that the task status back on the workflow status page would at least say that the task is in progress. This is a frustrating show stopper of a bug for me. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appricated so I can investigate them.

  • How can I embed a youtube video using variable widths/heights for a dynamic width web page?

    I want to set a youtube video to 100% width so that it scales appropriately in a dynamic width column on a web page I am designing. The problem is that the height doesn't behave like the height of an image. Instead of scaling proportionately, it either collapses (if set to "auto" or left blank) or it scales seemingly random if set to a percentage. How can I get it to remain proportionate while still dynamic?

  • Why does my Excel add-in only half work?

    I've created an Excel add-in using Visual Studio 2008. It has a ribbon, a bunch of panes and code that adds sheets and ranges and gets information scraped from a web page. When I run it on my dev PC it works perfectly. I used the Publish command to publich it and installed on a Windows XP virtual PC. The installation seemed fine and when I open Excel I see my ribbon. If I click a button that shows a pane, up pops the pane. If I enter some details into the pane that should create a range and populate it with data from a web page, the range is created but the web page is not visited (I have tested that I have connectivity). One of my buttons adds a hidden worksheet and another displays or hides that sheet. One of these buttons is not working. I've tried everything I can think of. I'm wondering if there are any permissions or trust issues I need to deal with?

Nullam massa augue, suscipit vel consectetur fringilla, pretium vitae neque. </TextBlock> <Button MinWidth="100" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Left">Hello world</Button> </DockPanel> My problem is that I want the Button to take its minimum 100px of space, and for the text to wrap suitably to leave that space. However, what happens is that the text wraps as close to 400px as possible, and then the Button is clipped. If I Snoop the output I can see that the button is rendering at the desired 100px, but it's being clipped off the side of the DockPanel. If I reverse the Dock (so the button is docked "Right" and the TextBlock fills) then I get the layout I want, but unfortunately that's not an option due to the surrounding layout. Is there something I can do that will make the DockPanel a) not clip and b) layout in a way that respects the MinWidth? Or am I stuck finding an alternative layout mechanism? Thanks in advance!

  • How to read a string one letter at a time in python

    I need to convert a string inputed by a user into morse code. The way our professor wants us to do this is to read from a morseCode.txt file, seperate the letters from the morseCode into two lists, then convert each letter to morse code (inserting a new line when there is a space). I have the beginning. What it does is reads the morseCode.txt file and seperates the letters into a list [A, B, ... Z] and the codes into a list ['– – . . – –\n', '. – . – . –\n'...]. We haven't learned "sets" yet, so I can't use that. How would I then take the string that they inputed, go through letter by letter, and convert it to morse code? I'm a bit caught up.
