  I have a query that can be summarised in SQL as follows; Select S.StockCode From StockToCheck As S Inner Join GetPOSStock(S.StockCode) As C On S.StockCode = C.StockCode; I'm trying to do the same in Linq but it seems I cannot pass a parameter to the function I am joining on as it has not been parsed by Linq. I imagine it would look like this (vb); Dim x = From S In StockToCheck Join C In GetPOSStock(S) On S Equals C.ProductCode Where the S var is a list of strings. This gives the error 'S' is not declared and points to the S in the function call / join (GetPOSStock). So it does not seem possible to do this in Linq, can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance Ryan

  I have a crystal report where it shows the Agent's activities throughout the day with a pie chart. In the details section it is displaying: Activity [string] StartedAt [DateTime] EndedAt [DateTime] Duration [The difference between EndedAt and StartedAt in seconds - Integer] Report data is GroupedBy Activity and summarized by Duration. Currently Duration is shown in seconds but I need to format it 02h:30m:22s:15ms. • How do I parse an XML file that's on a different web server?

  I have a list of training dates saved into an XML file, and I have a little javascript file that parses all of the training dates and spits them out into a neatly formatted page. This solution was fine until we decided that we wanted another web-page on another sever to access the same XML file. Since I cannot use JavaScript to parse an XML file that's located on another server, I figured I'd just use an ASP script. • Using C# assemblies from VB6 code. Some issues.

  I have a C# assembly, which is regasmed, but is not in the GAC. In my VB6 code, I added a reference to the generated type library (the .tlb file). Then I instantiate the C# lib in my VB6 code. If I run it from the VB6 IDE, it does not work. The Set in the code below: Dim obj as MyCSharpNamespace.MyCSharpObject Set obj = New MyCSharpNamespace.MyCSharpObject causes this error: Automation error The system cannot find the file specified However, if I compile the VB6 project to an EXE and run it, it runs perfectly fine. I should add that all the VB6 project files (e.g. forms, modules, etc...) are in the same folder as the C# DLL and TLB. So why can't I run it from the IDE environment?

  I have a Windows Forms app that, unfortunately, must make calls to controls from a second thread. I've been using the thread-safe pattern described on the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171728.aspx. Which has worked great in the past. The specific problem I am having now: I have a WebBrowser control and I'm attempting to invoke the WebBrowser.Navigate() method using this Thread-Safe pattern and as a result I am getting StackOverflow exceptions. How do i call this method and pass in the values?

• Spawning Process Never Finishes on ASP.NET Page

  The code below spawns the process and sits forever, never finishing. It doesn't matter what process I run. If I use delegates it doesn't work either. It just hangs up in my dev and on the test enviornment. Also, if I use Shell with Wait it does the same thing. If I set wait to false in either approach it works just fine. It's ASP.NET 2.0 VB.NET DotNetNuke 4.0 on Windows Server 2003. I can't even phathom why this would hang up. UPDATE: It causes the CPU to throttle up but it's not running anything. It's like there's something weird going on in the threading. • VB.NET - using textfile as source for menus and textboxes

  Hi, this is probably a bit tense and I'm not sure if this is possible at all. But basically, I'm trying to create a small application which contains alot of PowerShell-code which I want to run in an easy matter. I've managed to create everything myself and it does work. But all of the PowerShell code is manually hardcoded and this gives me a huge disadvantage. What I was thinking was creating some sort of dynamic structure where I can read a couple of text files (possible a numerous amount of text files) and use these as the source for both the comboboxes and the richtextbox which provovides as the string used to run in PowerShell. I was thinking something like this: Combobox - "Choose cmdlet" - Use "menucode.txt" as source Richtextbox - Use "code.txt" as source But, the thing is, Powershell snippets need a few arguments in order for them to work. So I've got a couple of comboboxes and a few textboxes which provides as input for these arguments. And this is done manually as it is right now. So rewriting this small application should also search the textfile for some keywords and have the comboboxes and textboxes to replace those keywords. And I'm not sure how to do this. So, would this requre a whole lot of textfiles? Or could I use one textfile and separate each PowerShell cmdlet snippets with something? Like some sort of a header?   I'm currently trying to search directories for any file labelled "??.??.????.xls" (for mm.dd.yyyy.xls). The problem I have is that the code I'm using also matches filenames such as "my-restaurant.12.01.2006.xls". I only want to match filenames with specifically the notation I used above. • VB.NET For Each steps into loop body for an IEnumerable collection! How? Why?

  This is weird. I have a class that inherits from IEnumrable whose Count property is reporting 0 (zero) elements but the For Each loop steps into the loop body and tries to use the variable where it should just be moving on. My code: On Error Resume Next Dim d As Foo For Each d In fooCollection ' use d and throws an exception Next d Weirder still, every time d is accessed i get an exception thrown in the output window: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' but i'm not stopping on the exception (not in a try/catch block). Is "On Error Resume Next" causing this weirdness? Weirdness found: Per Rowland's and JohnH's comments i checked the Foo class: The GetEnumerator method inside of Foo didn't actually return anything! It had an empty body. That coupled with the On Error Resume Next before the loop caused the havoc! Wow this was ugly. Thanks for the clues guys!

If I make a copy of a file in the solution explorer, that file is not included in the project file (.CSPROJ) after Pre_Rake() runs. I would still have to press CTRL-SHIFT-S or File - Save All. So, how to Save All with a Visual Studio Macro?

• Generic Lists copying references rather than creating a copiedList

  I was developing a small function when trying to run an enumerator across a list and then carry out some action. (Below is an idea of what I was trying to do. When trying to remove I got a "Collection cannot be modified" which after I had actually woken up I realised that tempList must have just been assigned myLists reference rather than a copy of myLists. After that I tried to find a way to say tempList = myList.copy However nothing seems to exist?? I ended up writing a small for loop that then just added each item from myLsit into tempList but I would have thought there would have been another mechanism (like clone??) • Trying to open a excel template and rename or save to new location

Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file." What I would like to do is Open a excel file that is the XLTemplatePath and the either rename or save the file at the XLSaveReportPath and then use that renamed/saved file to fill the report out. I am using Visual Studio 2008 in VB.NET

  As the title suggests, I'm tyring to pass a variable data type to a template class. Something like this: frmExample = New LookupForm(Of Models.MyClass) 'Works fine Dim SelectedType As Type = InstanceOfMyClass.GetType() 'Works fine repoGeneric = New Repositories.Repository(Of SelectedType) 'Ba-bow! repoGeneric = New Repositories.Repository(Of InstanceOfMyClass.GetType()) 'Ba-bow! I'm assuming it's something to do with the template being processed at compile time but even if I'm off the mark there, it wouldn't solve my problem anyway. I can't find any relevant information on using Reflection to instance template classes either. (How) can I create an instance of a dynamically typed repository at runtime?
