I found I can restrict access using the .htaccess, and using something like <FilesMatch "\.(text,doc)"> Order allow,deny Deny from all Satisfy All </FilesMatch> to serve up everything except a regular expression. Is it possible to instead restrict access to only files which meet some regular expression?

    Hi, My mother has some serious issues using Windows (viruses, spywares, and so on) and I seriously think about setting up Ubuntu as a replacement. (That would ease my "job" as well) The only concern I have is, is there anything to edit .docx (or .xlsx, .pptx, ...) documents on Linux ? Last time I tried OpenOffice (was 3 years ago), it was only able to open "old" MS Office documents (.doc, .xls, ...). Thank you very much for your answers !

    I need to configure a IMAP4 capable (console-based) email client to - check and edit the name of an attachment ("contains umlauts?" - change character ä to ae) - delete emails that don't fit certain requirements (not PDF, DOC,... not from domain xyz.com) Whether the client can do everything by itself or can just trigger a script on incoming mail doesn't matter. Anyone have an idea with mail client would be suitable for such a task?

I use Postfix with Dovecot, and when I send an email from my gmail to my server, it is received at the server, but not at my email client using POP3.     I have recently heard a lot about exploits for PDF and DOC files on Windows, which when opened in Reader or Word would infect the computer. I'm assuming most of those exploits rely on some kind of active content, I've heard that Reader allows JavaScript for example. I already have antivirus, but I've heard they often don't catch those types of exploits, so I want to try a little proactive defense. Is there a way to harden Reader and Word by disabling plugins or options that are often used by exploits?

  • Postfix issues sending mail to addresses under domain located on server

    I recently installed virtualmin on my nice shiny new rackspace cloud. Everything went seemlessly but I've been having some issues getting emails to send properly. The problem seems to be that the server can not send mail to email addresses where the domain is owned by my server. For example, on my server I run multiple virtual domains, lets call this one test.com.   • PHP-FPM performing worse than mod_php

    Recently the website I maintain has been growing a lot and I saw the point coming where I'd want to switch from apache to nginx, because I kept on reading that it performs way better. Now I've done the switch, and I have to say, nginx is keeping up just fine. However, php-fpm is forming a problem. Where the php pages used to take 0.1 second to generate with the same load they now take around 3 seconds! Furthermore the error.log from nginx is being spammed with errors like: upstream timed out (110: Connection timed out) while connecting to upstream, client: ... I also tried using unix sockets instead, but those would complain about the following: connect() to unix:/tmp/php5-fpm.sock failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) while connecting to upstream I've fiddled with settings here and there but nothing seems to work. Changing the amount of pm.max_children doesn't seem to help a lot either, but with it's current amount at 350 it seems to be the lesser of all evil. The server that's being used has 3 GB RAM (not all of it is free due to a MySQL server also running) along with 2 dual-core processors (4 cores in total). Am I doing something majorly wrong with the settings here, or is the server simply not capable enough?     Is there a way to change the size of the Windows 7 Taskbar? Internal or with the help of outside programs, both welcome. Something like the MacOS X Doc Zooming effect would be OK/nice, too. Edit: I'm essentially looking for a way to shrink it, because my laptop does not have a big screen so every pixel is valueable.
