  • force connection using USB adapter

    Hi all I am new to Linux, so even though this is probably a simple problem it remains unsolved after more then 3 hours of googling :-( I run running ubuntu 10.04 LTS on an Acer Aspire 5520G . the laptop has a wireless adapter, but since I wanted better range I got an Edimax EW-7711USN USB adapter. now , when running ifconfig I am able to see both adapters where as the laptop native adapter is listed as wlan0 and the usb adapter is listed as wlan1. but listing available networks from the wireless network applet , all the connection are listed under wlan0 , the usb adapter is costencly listed as disconnected. this is what I have been trying to do so far 1) ifconfig wlan0 down - I got disconnected from the net but still was not able to get the usb to connect 2) used the wireless connection dialog to connect to a hidden network with the usb adapter - I was able to connect to the network but with no Internet access 3) disable wireless using the laptop function button - both wireless adapters where disabled can anyone suggest a way to connect to to the wireless network using the USB adapter rather then the built in one ?     I need to redirect all incoming HTTP traffic to HTTPS on my elastic load balancer. I tired using Apache mod_rewrite: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https RewriteRule !/status https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R] Taking advantage of the X-Forwarded-Proto header added by the load balancer, this rule should instruct the users browser to request the HTTPS version of the same URL. So far It doesn't work (no redirection happens). What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way to do this?

  • Force shutdown a pc stuck in updating via Team Viewer

    Before I left office, I shutdown my work computer, leaving it in "Please do not power off..." screen. Now, when I log on to my own computer, I saw in Team Viewer that it's on. I thought it restarted instead of shutting down, but when I connect to it, it's still stuck in the previous screen. I've tried sending Ctrl-Alt-Del, but it seems to ignore it. I could still change its resolution via Team Viewer, and the fact that it respond my connection means it's not completely stalled. Is there anyway to shutdown it via Team Viewer?

  • What is the probable failure - no BSOD, no event log, monitors sleeping, force reboot required

    Every 3 to 15 days, my PC freezes. This typically happens when the computer is idle, I'm coming home from work, back from vacation, etc. It's never happened while using my computer. The monitors are in power save mode The Caps Lock light on the (wireless) keyboard doesn't work Ctrl-alt-del has no effect, mouse (wireless) has no effect The hardware reset button and single press of power putton have no effect Computer does not appear on the network No BSOD, no memory dump Event logs have no errors or indications of problems near the time of crash. Only messages after reboot indicating that there was a reboot without a clean shutdown. Windows is set to never put the computer to sleep (just the display) Here are the vital stats of the build: OS Windows 8 Pro 64-bit CPU Intel i5-2400 Mobo Intel BOXDP67DE Micro ATX GPU MSI N460GTX Cyclone768D5/OC RAM CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 PSU SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold System Drive Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB SSD Data Drive 2 x Western Digital WD20EARS 2TB in hardware RAID 1 Optical Lite-On DVD burner IHAS424-98 And here is the story of how the problem developed and what I've done to diagnose: January 2011, system built with Windows 7 64-bit, runs great. March 2011, Intel replaced the mobo because of the bad sata controllers. October 2012, upgrade to Windows 8 (problems start shortly after). January 2013, system freezes and causes network to fail for the whole house. Unplug the network cable and other devices and PCs can use the internet. Plug it back in, internet goes away for everyone. Reboot and everything is fine. March 2013, install Intel Gigabit CT PCI-E NIC, disable mobo nic in bios. Network strangeness goes away. Freezes are less frequent. Memtest shows no problems (20 passes). Early June 2013, replace Antec PSU with SeaSonic PSU. Mid June 2013, replace OCZ Vertex 2 SSD with Samsung SSD. Late June 2013, get frustrated and hope the community has some good ideas (I'm running out of budget to replace parts). My next plan of attack is setting "Turn off display" to Never and using a screen saver to see how that reacts on the next freeze. It makes me sad to waste power for up to 15 days though. Has anyone out there seen a problem like this? Any ideas on what kind of malfunction would act this way? Ideas of other diagnostic steps to take?

    I want Windows 7 to store thumbnails cache files in the same folder as the files (thumbs.db) instead of using the centralized location for all thumbnails (By default %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer). How would one achieve this effect? Alternatively, if the former is implausible, I'd settle for no thumbnail caching at all, forcing Windows to regenerate thumbnails each time a folder is accessed.

    user user197015 asked on 1th of November the following question: "We have a RAID 6 array (Infortrend EonStor DS S16F) that recently had two disks fail. Immediately prior to replacing these two disks, a third, good, disk was accidentally ejected from the array. After reinserting this disk it is marked as "exiled" by the array's firmware, and so even after replacing the two failed disks with new ones the array refuses to rebuild the logical volume and remains inaccessible. Since the temporarily-ejected disk is still functional and nothing has been written to the array since it was ejected, it seems that it should theoretically be possible to recover all the data on the array, but how can we convince the array to use the data from the "exiled" disk?     Hey Guys, Here's the challenge--I developed Softphone Screenpop PHP App that takes caller id info and searches for a match in our db, also allows us to collect call statistics. Great for our management but it's driving our reps nuts. We use firefox here and when our softphone pops to the external page, every time it opens in a new tab, the girls quickly get 5-10 open and it becomes confusing. Our softphone will also run command line. I wondering if there is a way to have a URL open in a certain tab. Otherwise does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks!

  • Getting much higher than usual brute-force attempts on cPanel

    Although I have many client accounts on my cPanel based server I'm really the only one who has login information to any of the accounts. I have cPhulk setup to alert me and blocking after 4 failed attempts. I usually have only a handful of bots trying to get in each day(2 hosts ago I never had any), but Today the rate has significantly increased, every 10 minutes or so(no not like clockwork, just averaging). Should I be concerned? Is there anything extra I should be doing, is there any automated reporting services I can use? Thanks.

  • How to force a drop of MSSQL Server database

    I am trying to delete an MSSQL Server database, however I am having no luck. I have tried multiple things such as user ALTER DATABASE my_database SET RESTRICTED_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE; GO DROP DATABASE my_database; GO I have also tried to right click on it a delete it. This does not work, it tells me "Cannot drop database "ima_debts" because it is currently in use". The thing is there is definately no other user connected to it. In fact I disabled TCP/IP for the database and restarted it. Not even "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (Administrator)" is connected to it. I have made sure to login to "master". Why is it telling me it is currently in use. Is it possible for me to delete perhaps a directory or something from the file system to get rid of this database? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Merging two sites into one, how to redirect from the domain that's going away?

    I haven't been able to find any existing questions that cover my exact issue, so here goes: My client wants her two sites (domain1.com and domain2.com) rolled into a single, new site under domain1.com. Once the site is ready on domain1.com, DNS for domain2.com would be pointed at the same server as domain1.com. I know how to do an htaccess rewrite rule that would make all domain2.com traffic map to a specific single page or directory within domain1.com. But that's not what the client wants. What she wants is for a bunch of specific pages on domain2.com to map to specific new pages on domain1.com. For example: domain2.com/index.php?pageid=58 GOES TO domain1.com/2011/04/somearticle domain2.com/index.php?pageid=92 GOES TO domain1.com/2011/03/differentname etc. I could put a bunch of 301 redirects in the htaccess on domain1.com, which would work fine. The problem is, the client doesn't want/need specific redirects for ALL the domain2.com pages, and if I just do 301 redirects, anybody who comes looking for a domain2.com page that I haven't built a specific redirect for will get a 404 error. So I need to use 301 redirects for some traffic, and a rewrite rule for any traffic that's not covered in the 301 redirects. How do I do sort of a blending of a rewrite rule and 301 redirects, all in the htaccess file for domain1.com? Is this possible? Is it as simple as putting the 301 redirects in the htaccess file first, then doing the rewrite rule? I'm guessing not.

    Hello, I'm having this annoyning problem giving this message in the console: Failed to launch simulated application: iPhone Simulator failed to find the process ID of com.iAndApp.BlockPop. When trying to Build and Run, the application builds fine. The simulator starts but doesn't start the application. However, it manages to do something since the icon for the app is installed in the simulator. I have been searching to find the answer and tried a couple of things, none that worked. This happens for both new and old projects. I.e. when I create a new project I will receive the same error message. I've tried several projects of which all get the same error, so it's not related to the code (and successful builds proves it). Among other things I have updated to xCode 3.2.2. in order to try to solve the problem. Using Mac OSX 10.6.3.   • WindowsIdentity Token in Legacy ASP

    I've created a .Net library at work that is used by all of our developers. The security part of it uses Microsoft AzMan for the security backend. In order to create a security (AzMan) ClientContext I have to pass it a token value (as a uint). This is all fine an dandy until I needed to make a COM wrapper for our common library so some of our legacy pages could take advantage of it without being rewritten for now. I cannot figure out how to get the token value to pass to AzMan from legacy ASP. The COM wrapper is setup to run as a COM Server and runs as a specific user that we use here for all COM objects, therefor the common library can't just pull the identity using .Net. Any ideas?

  • CComPtr CoCreateInstance returns 0x80070582 (Class already exists.)

    I have a StartComObjects function called when the user presses the Login button and a StopComObjects function called when the user presses the Cancel button. The StartComObjects function uses CComPtr.CoCreateInstance to create the COM object and sets up some connection points using AfxConnectionAdvise. When the user presses the Cancel button the connection points are disconnected using AfxConnectionUnadvise and the COM object is stopped before calling Release on the CComPtr. When I press the login button a second time the CComPtr.CoCreateInstance returns 0x80070582 (Class already exists). This prevents the COM object from being created on the second call to StartComObjects. I am not sure why this isn't working. Shouldn't CComPtr::Release free the COM object and allow me to create a new one after the old one was stopped? Is there any way to get around this?

  • Can managed and unmanaged C++/MFC be mixed in one dll?

    Previously we had software in MFC (VC6), VB6 and C# applications that needed to call the same engine written in C++ (and MFC). The engine required C++ for speed. At the time we decided to use COM as the interface because all three could use it with the least issues in marshalling, etc. Our MFC application is now deprecated and we have recently decided to dump VB6, so what we've got left is C#. We can just leave the COM engine as-is, but it would be nice to get away from COM registration, etc., and have a managed interface to work with. COM registration occasionally causes support issues if there is something wrong with the person's machine. Is it possible to have a dll with the existing unmanaged C++/MFC, and a .NET front end interface?

  • C# Casting system.__comobject to class type

    I have an Excel Add-In that I'm currently trying to set up a unit test framework for. For the unit tests I've followed this guide: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/varsha/archive/2010/08/17/writing-automated-test-cases-for-vsto-application.aspx It seems to work fine, until I want to return a class object from my interface. Specifying the class object as the return type throws a "return argument has an invalid type" exception when calling the method. Changing the return type from the class to an object allows me to call the method and get the object, but now I'm unable to cast it as the class and use it as intended, getting this exception message when I try: > Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to class type > 'anaplan.Utility.XYCoordinates'. Instances of types that represent COM > components cannot be cast to types that do not represent COM > components; however they can be cast to interfaces as long as the > underlying COM component supports QueryInterface calls for the IID of > the interface. I've retrieved the Type name using VisualBasic.Information.TypeName and it's showing it as the class I expect. Is there any way to get the comobject cast back to the class? Or another way to access the properties it has? Or am I just being a bit stupid here?

  • Silverlight "Out of browser application" vs. "Install from page"

    I’ve been working on integrating some controls which call in to COM classes in to a Silverlight client. Since my controls use COM, they only work out of browser. The client does have out of browser installation options turned on, and when I launch the client from visual studio, I can right click it, and install it to the desktop. That all seems to be working fine. The strange part though is that my controls don’t work when they’re out of browser – I get an error that the COM server can’t be started. The stranger part is that if I go in to the clientproperties, and set the Start Action from “Dynamically generate a test page” to “Out of browser application”, my controls work fine, and I get no COM errors. So I guess I don’t understand the difference between installing the application to the desktop through the right click menu and setting the application to start as an out of browser application. Any idea what's going on here?

However, the last step which says to change the CHMOD of a folder, I got an error saying that the directory does not exist. Open Office now appears in my Ubuntu start menu, but clicking on it does nothing. I tried a reboot. Below is what I could copy from my terminal. I am running the latest Ubuntu.
