  • Resources access problem from JAR

    I have the following directory structure of a project: Folder "project" in Eclipse: --folder "src" --folder "resources" ----trayicon2.png --folder "db" ----test.db --folder "bin" I'm accessing the image with: Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("resources/trayicon2.png"); and from Eclipse that is not a problem. Then I generate an "executable jar file", and add the dirs, making a directory structure of: Folder "project" --folder "db" ----test.db --folder "resources" ----trayicon2.png --project.jar And now the image is no more accessible. Also, the database is no more accessible; while in Eclipse I used to access it with: Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sqlite:db/test.db"); How can I access the resources (images and db) after generating the jar file "project.jar"?

    I'm running 4 java processes with the following command: java -Xmx256m -jar ... and the system has 8Gb memory under fedora 12. however it is apparently going into swap. how can that be if 4 x 256m = 1Gb ? EDIT: also, how can all 8Gb of memory be used with so little memory allocated to basically the only thing running? is it java not garbage collecting because the OS tells it it doesn't need to or what?   • Clicking Elements in Android Doesn't Display the Correct Values

    I apologize if this code looks a bit like a mess (considering the length); I figured I'd just include everything that goes on in my program at the moment. I'm attempting to create a fairly simple Tic Tac Toe app for Android. I've set up my UI nicely so far so that there are a "grid" of TextViews. As a sort of "debug" right now, I have it so that when one clicks on a TextView, it should display the value of buttonId in a message box. Right now, it displays the correct assigned value for the first element I click, but no matter what I click afterwards, it always just displays the first value buttonID had. I attempted to debug it but couldn't exactly find a point where it would pull the old value (to the best of my knowledge, it reassigned the value). There's a good possibility I'm missing something small, because this is my first Android project (of any note). Can someone help get different values of buttonId to appear or point out the error in my logic?   • Should we or should we not check in the classes folder in WEB-INF directory into SVN?

    I use SVN, and am learning how to use it along with eclipse IDE. The first time I add classes to my package, there is no problem, the generated class files get into SVN smoothly. The moment I edit them, I get this message - "WEB-INF/classes" is obstructed. I try the "clean-up" command and the clean up command says "WEB-INF/classes" folder is locked. I use TortoiseSVN as my SVN client. I know why this is happening. It probably because the Eclipse overwrites all the files while generating classes and then causes this - Is it inappropriate to commit the class files into SVN? If not, what should I do to commit these class files smoothly?

    I am writing this little Lottery application. Now the plan is, to count how often each number has been drawn during each iteration of the Lottery, and store this somewhere. My guess is that I would need to use a HashMap, that has 6 keys and increments the value by one everytime the respective keys number is drawn. But how would I accomplish this?     Hi, I was using Sonar to make my code cleaner, and it pointed that I'm using new Integer(1) instead of Integer.valueOf(1). Because it seems that valueOf does not instantiate a new object so is more memory-friendly. How can valueOf not instantiate a new object ? How does it work ? Is this true for all integers ? thanks.

    I've just been playing with Scala, and installed the Eclipse plugin as described at http://www.scala-lang.org/node/94, but after entering the "Hello World" test example and setting up the run configuration as described, I get the following error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main For reference the code is package hello object HelloWorld extends Application { println("Hello World!") } I've tinkered a bit with the obvious solutions (adding a main method, adding a singleton object with a main method) but I'm clearly doing something wrong. Can anyone get their test example to work, or point out what I am doing wrong?

The only common library used between the 2 apps is the FlurryAgent.jar for analytics. For the top app I have For the bottom app I have in the manifests. The only information I have been able to find out is about libraries (GSON) and needing to use dx but I am using Eclipse so that doesn't help. To make this more difficult, the error does NOT occur on the Android Market. Yet the testers at Amazon say that it FC 5/5 times on each of their devices (I tried using an emulator for their test devices and they worked fine). I know they use "wrapper" code around my app and I think it must be interfering in some way. Does anyone have any experience with this?

The problem is that despite their poor knowledge and skills, they are sure of their abilities, to the point where I find it hard to teach them "better ways". What's the best way to tackle this? Just to be clear what I'm talking about: Constantly changing between tools/IDEs/libraries when it's tough. Blind certainty that really bad designs are really very good. Copying and pasting from the Internet, without understanding the code, and "marking" it as a project.

    I want to build a scalable dynamic Web Application. I have never programmed an Object Oriented language before. Or, let's just say I am completely new to programming, because the previous experiences aren't worth talking about. I know I have a really big task ahead of me ^^ but I wanted to get into coding for the last 10 years and now that I'm finally doing it, I would like to know how to get there in the most efficient way. Any good books/tutorials you could recommend? Would it really make sense to learn other, better documented languages before learning RoR? Or would it be better for a beginner to learn C# with ASP.NET first? Thank you for your help in advance ;-)
